Hot water? Forget about it. The lobby looks nice but that is about as far as it goes. The walls are paper thin where bumping against them will create scuffs. The maintenance staff has never fixed a single one of our issues without multiple requests. Every fix is the cheapest possible attempt.Move elsewhere, dont be fooled
I’ve lived here since June and we’ve had issues with hot water, I saw another review below with the same issue so it seems it’s a problem for many tenants. Paying $3500 a month to take a shower that fluctuates between lukewarm and hot (half the time it won’t even get hot at all and is barely lukewarm.) beware moving in here if you like hot showers
This is a fantastic place to live. Dont be fooled by those cookie cutter cutout apartments across the river in Harrison. This is where you want to live in the area. Great access to the train system, restaurants and stores. The characters on Broad street never seem to let you down with entertainment as well. The building is a historic architectural landmark to the state. It is the original telephone building of New Jersey. They did a good job at keeping original features to the building in the reconstruction process. The top floor has beautiful common areas to work, a yoga studio and a gym. To me that was a deal sealer. The bottom floor has a professional rock climbing gym, UPS store and I hope the brewery opens soon. The Amazon lockers and the front desk make it very convenient to receive packages in this COVID environment.Parking to the facility can be a little steep as it will cost you $180 (a month) for a parking spot in the neighboring garage behind the building.I suppose it is hit or miss when it comes to noise in your apartment as I never hear any loud noise in my apartment. I mean this is an apartment building and not a private house, you do have neighbors. The building is full of a wide range of diversity within a working professional class. I have never come across any riff-raff living here. Besides what people write about the management I have never encountered a problem with any of them. They have been extremely pro-active when it comes to issues/ work orders and they always ask you how you are doing in the lobby. I will agree though with the money I spend here it is well worth it.
They need to fire Jaime asap. The building is nice looking. The walls are thin, there were 2 fire alarms today. It smelled like sewage outside. Parking is not included. All that to mention, the GM is just unresponsive and clearly doesnt value her job.Jaime needs to get fired for a total lack of respect for us. Shes unhelpful and so rude to people that live there. If you take a poll, I can name 10 neighbors that will want her fired. So many people complain. There will be another manager soon.
I cant believe it will be 1year living here at the 9/4/19 - 9/4/20 walker house hopefully more to come great place to live and so much more I learned to appreciate the opportunity and blessing and so convenient to downtown within walking distance wholefoods and lots of transportation come and check ✔ the walker house for yourselfMs D Sabb 😘😘😘😘
My partner and I moved here from NYC with the expectations that Walker House would either meet or exceed our expectations (given all of the hype surrounding Newark’s “renaissance”)- but I painfully admit, we were wrong. The pros are obvious-“Nicely Restored”, “Conveniently Located” but that’s where it ends. The term “The Fish Stinks from the Head” aptly describes how poorly Jamie Confessore runs this building. If you want the truth, just keep reading*:*NOTE: This review was written with the intent to inform prospective tenants and hold senior leadership accountable.Cleanliness: Many residents in this building have pets, but because there’s limited cleaning staff- a lot of pet hair tracks into our unit. It’s so bad that pet hair always gets on our bed sheets, floors and sofa daily. I can’t even remember the last time I heard or saw anyone vacuuming or cleaning the hallway floors- I don’t even think there is a set schedule to be honest. Pandemic or not- it’s pretty gross, even though I love animals I am not trying to sleep with 8 different breeds of dog every night (see photos). Overall “Luxury Buildings” are pretty much known for obsessing over the details, and this place misses mark-From the elevators to the floors- and everywhere in between (see additional photos).Plumbing: The water issues are true, plus more. I’ve even had water stop running on me multiple times while taking a shower. Also- when the weather gets warmer the lobby smells like sewage, it’s definitely not luxuriating whatsoever. Then there’s the annoyance of random pipes banging at the worst times.Communications: They notoriously fail in this department on a routine basis. Ex: We had an issue that required an outside technician to come and assess our place, but we were never notified as to when to expect them. Days later Concierge randomly calls me telling me the Technician is ready to come into our unit. This type of thing has happened multiple times btw.Staffing: The Concierge/Door Person/Security situation is much like a traveling caravan or circus. It’s literally been a revolving door of good natured and hard working people who wind up quitting or asking for transfers because they get fed up with the toxic leadership and how they are treated on the job (7 people have come and gone so far). It took months into the pandemic for them to even get PPE basics and many of them get so frustrated with how they are spoken to by management. Also word on the street is that preferential treatment toward white residents is prioritized as it relates resolving maintenance issues and requests, so there’s always that, which I don’t think staff members would lie about. All of them are not white. We are thankful for living here. However we believe that this building and the people who live in it deserve much better, no matter who they are.
The lobby architecture does justice to this historic building. Apartment is newly renovated so everything is up-to date. East facing apartments have a great view and would recommend checking them out. The building staff is way good and helpful. Building amenities are modest, nothing too extraordinary. In short good place to stay.
Walker House has to be one of the most beautiful buildings in the NY /NJ area. The property is just stunning, spotless clean and well kept and just a delight to reside in.
1/10 for the Customer service from the Leasing Team. The concierge team had no clue what time the office opened and closed. I called to inquire about an Apartment and a lady named JAMIE picked up and was extremely rude. She made it seem like I was a bother to her and stated they did not have any 2 bedrooms when the website clearly showed 2 bedrooms available. The customer service alone by Jamie made me never want to live at The Walker House!
So far our experience with Walker House has been phenomenal. Shanice has answered all our questions and been with us through every step. She has also ensured that my husband and I feel at home with our needs. David also has been tremendously helpful in guiding us through the move in process. This a great community of people and they have their heart invested in making this place great.
Paper thin walls. You’ll hear your neighbors dogs barking, neighbors walking, and their conversations .. hard to relax and call a unit home.. Building has plumbing issues, so forget about having consistent hot water.. Also, there’s about 50 affordable housing units in the building, so think about who your neighbors will be..
Terrible management
