Rented a mic for the weekend rate of $30. Got to the store and was told that it would be a $160 dollar hold on my account since my card was out of the state. No where is that information listed on the website nor was it brought to my attention when I put my information in online. The old man that I talked to when I went to pick up the rental was rude, of course and the other employee couldnt answer a simple question. Waste of time. If i could give 0 stars I would....Added: your response makes no sense. I provided proof of address before I made the trip into your store. It wasnt an international card. Im a citizen and my card was US issued...that was just a generic response to show your customer service skills that you nor your employees have. Revise your website and put the correct information where it needs to be.

I needed a $1400 esoteric lens for a single shot that needed to happen by the end of the day. I ordered the lens on the CSI website for $40/day and went and picked it up 2 hours later, took the shot, returned the lens the next day. Places like this make the impossible into the easy. This is what NYC get-it-done culture is all about.BTW, the lens was a Canon 180mm f3.5 macro and it was so worth the effort.

CSI Rentals is *the* best! I had an emergency during a 2 day shoot last week, not realizing that my 24mm would not be wide enough for the location I needed to photograph. I called them at 9:30am asking what they had in stock as the widest lens, by 10am I arrived and by 10:15 I was en route to my shoot. Service was fast, incredibly helpful (Thanks Ryan!), and I will definitely use CSI again for any of my rental needs. Would highly recommend! 10/10

CSI Rentals is very good. The staff are very helpful in helping you to place your order. And the grip guy was also a great resource for any gear questions. They are located on street level so easy for pick up and drop off. Had great experience renting from them.

Im currently in the process of moving the majority of my smaller still / video rentals to CSI. I get absolutely no attitude for bringing in rental EQ from other rental houses, I even get help with building kits using some other bits from competitors. I much prefer the family-run (although everyone that works there is not related, and from drastically different backgrounds) energy of CSI to any of the larger rental houses. You can actually get hands on help without getting treated like an idiot from CSI... thats a deal breaker... not to mention they also stock a wide variety of camera supports (shoulder rigs, gimbals, etc) that other houses do not have.Mitchell (the young white kid) is my favorite, and helps me put together cumbersome rigs every time I check out.

This company is very crooked. My Boyfriend and I rented a lens over the weekend from this place because they had a very good deal on weekend pricing. When we returned the lens, they told us that the lens hood was missing. When we looked into the contract the only items listed were the lens, and the filter which we signed off on. We presented this information to one of the workers, Mark Cantor, who in turn told us that we had to pay for the lens hood even though it was not included in our original contact and rental package. The charge was for $65 when the original rental price was $30.I will never do business with them again and I would suggest anyone who rents from these dirty crooks, check your rental package before you leave.

Glad they have a first time customer discount, because Im never coming back. I rented a Kino Flo 2 4-bank, and because of my schedule could only pick it up about 15 minutes before they closed for the day for a job early the next morning. They were courteous, but pretty obvious about hustling me out of the store. Thats fine, because having colleagues that worked in rental places, I know they must have inspected and tested everything before I got there. Surely in the 3 days since I placed my order someone should have tried to turn it on? Nope, I got home, set everything up to double check and lo and behold, one of the lights doesnt work. Tried a new bulb, swapping known-good bulbs, even put a multi-meter on the plugs, no voltage at all to that one bulb. So there was definitely something wonky that even a cursory inspection should have revealed. The facade of quality customer service disappears pretty fast here. I called and emailed CSI several times to see about a replacement before the job, the response was welp, I guess we can give you a refund when you return it. Thats it.So upon returning the broken unit, the store owner plugged it in while I was in the bathroom (1.5 hour commute from NJ) and it magically started working correctly. Somehow, no less than 3 industry professionals at the job location couldnt figure out why it was broken, but once in the store and out of my sight for a moment its suddenly fixed. From here, the owner accused me of lying and demanded I leave while yelling racial and homophobic slurs as I walked down the street. For which he didnt charge extra, at least. So I guess my recommendation is: whatever unfortunate circumstance caused you to rent from CSI, be sure test every function of everything you rent in the store yourself because you cant trust anyone to do their job these days and youre not getting a refund, no matter what.I should note that this is the first time Ive rented from CSI myself; other jobs where weve used them theres been broken modeling lights, bent grip arms, and other little things that while not job-ruining, they should have been noticed & corrected via a cursory equipment inspection. I would recommend K&M in Tribeca, B2Pro on the west side, or Playground in Brooklyn, Ive never had a problem with their equipment, and if I did I feel like they wouldnt hurl epithets at me in the street.
