Helped me find ways to find my cat that ran away 9/7/21. And...We found her last week . Thanks to all the organizations who were so helpful. Thanks to Zeus for so much assistance with using the kennel-trap!!
I love volunteering here. Its a win-win situation all around
OMG, hey yall!! I donate through Amazon Smiles..The kitten room should have chandeliers hanging with all the money I spend on Amazon!I also send Arm & Hammer scent free laundry detergent.Keep up the great work guys and Ill keep on shopping for a good cause!!p.s. thats what I tell my husband, its for a good cause!
After filling out a application (very long) they called my landlord and he confirmed, then called me we spoke about kitten things etc. Scheduled a home visit for Tomorrow and they adopted the kitten out I wanted TODAY. Really disappointed they operate like this. Told my 3 yr old he would be getting a visitation for a kitten with all the kitten supplies at the house. They truly need better management because if a kitten is already being adopted out THEN say that. Plus they didnt even want me to meet the cat till after the home visit. Woukda adopted him the DAY I did the application but THEY insisted on a home visit. Do NOT WASTE your TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had an appointment at Mardi Gras Blvd. An appointment with no one. The huge building was silent. I waited on a bench where some woman who looked busy told me to. For 20 minutes. Then I asked her why was I sitting there. She said oh,,,,,,,,,, excuses. Next I was told to go in a room where 1 black kitten was. The on line search had hundreds. The kittens I wanted are still posted on line.Racketeering is what that is.Racking up money for a front of some kind.
The main lady who owns this place is absolutely off her rocker. Its great that this is a no kill shelter but attempting to work with that woman was a nightmare.
I had bought a cat from PetSmart and unfortunately thought I had to return her because of an issue. PetSmart said that I couldnt and I should call the shelter. The person who spoke to me at the shelter helped me with my situation and I got to keep the cat
Small, dedicated staff who work hard, need bedding. Newspapers, etc
Adoption process needs some work. No animal wants to live in a cage. Their days are very long. There should be a law requiring you to be open longer than 4 hours a day. Your adoption rate should be audited/looked at.
I am nowheres near new orleans but ill give it 5 stars
They make it very challenging to adopt a dog. Theyre missing out on opportunities to save more animals because of this. They could save more animals from kill shelters if they would make the process a bit more simple.
After filling out an application with ARNO in excitement to add a pet member to our family, we were told no adoption for us...?ARNO called our landlord and asked if our property allowed pets. Our landlord always says no to that. She allows a relationship to be built with her tenant, showing responsibility and trust before saying yes. We built that relationship over 17months, just as one of our neighbors on the same property did and has multiple pets. ARNO NEVER called us in follow up to our application, only an email saying we are not allowed to adopt. End of application.Poor communicationLack of professionalism
Amazing group of folks here! We appreciated all the work they went through to make sure we were a capable foster Fam!
Great shelter. The staff is friendly, extremely helpful and they have cute puppers.
I am a Volunteer at ARNO. Everyone is very helpful and We all love animals.
The staff at ARNO are without a doubt the best!! You can tell employees really love and care about all of the animals like they were their own. Being in a shelter can be tough on the animals but they do everything possible to try to make it easier, while looking for the best forever homes possible.
Ive adopted 2 cats from here and volunteered my time to help out. I love the way they run things and they are super helpful. You should stop by even if you dont plan to adopt! Just come give the dogs and cats some love! The more people, the merrier. :)
Great organization.
Love that they have a vetting process. For a small space, they do their best to give these furbabies everything they possibly can. Animals are well cared for. The cat area, while small and has a lot of stuff in there, was still clean. Cant remember the first lady that assisted us, but mentioned she mostly worked with dogs. For someone who mostly handled dogs, she was still knowledgeable on the cats and basics of the procedures. Love this place and the work they do!
We adopted our dachshund from ARNO. dont know what wed do without him! Very smooth adoption process. Would recommend!
ARNO is awesome, so on top of all their processes they made adoption seamless. They take amazing care of their pets and amazing tact in placing them in homes they will succeed in. Definitely adopt your next animal here.
These locing people do great work. Adopt a pet!
They are truly helpful during the adoption process and are not shy about telling you how much they are there for you for the rest of your pet’s life. They brought me my new best friend and I’ll be forever grateful!
We fell in love with Cookie the cat and ended up adopting her. Im so glad this rescue exists.
I love to bring treats and donate to help the ANIMALs
Help animals find homes please donate to these people I take care of animals
This place is amazing! Great dogs and cats and volunteers! If your looking to adopt this is the place!
Very friendly and truly care about you pet. Clean calm environment
They so so much to help save the helpless animals.. any donations of blankets, towels, food, unused medical supplies (syringes/needles) would be appreciated.. consider adoption from ARNO!!
I came into this adoption process extremely positive and without any bias. When I visited their facility to look at dogs, I was rather shocked at the bad conditions the dogs were subjected to. It was a typical hot day about 95 degrees and I was shocked to find them in cages stacked inside a steaming hot garage. While on-site, I struggled to find a volunteer who was able to help me ... by the way they don’t even have a phone set up for the shelter. I was just wandering the facility looking for someone for the longest time. I eventually found a sweet dog that I wanted to adopt and filled an adoption application. I was shocked at just how long it was were talking 2-3 pages of crazily detailed questions about past pets and vets that took me 30-40 minutes to complete. The next day, I received a very patronizing call from an volunteer who had a question about my application:my dog used to have heart worms and they got treated and she continued to argue that MY dog still head heart worms when she clearly didn’t look at any vet records. In fact, I think the dogs overly-strict adoption process is itself inhumane, as it puts up unnecessary barriers between animals in need and loving owners ! Especially given the massive amount of animals who die on the street regularly. Based on some of the other reviews Ive read, I know Im not alone. I will be visiting the LA SPCA this weekend to get a dog. good luck, these dogs need it in order to get adopted! The lady said I wasn’t capable of owning a dog, this lady was highly disrespectful & I hope this lady gets fired or whatever because she doesn’t know half of what I’ve been through I have a bearded dragon, 3 dogs, and 7 chickens. Get over your selfs y’all won’t get any money the way y’all treat people y’all are horrible devils! This lady was the true definition of disrespect!
Animals are well cared for. They are looking for a larger and air conditioned facility. Will you donate to help?
Amazing staff!
I have worked with this rescue since it started. Homes are carefully vetted before placement and they treat illnesses as if the dog was their own. Once an ARNO dog always an ARNO dog...meaning if something happens and the dog (or cat)must be given up, ARNO will always take them back.
The hearts of the staff here are so genuine and helpful. Definitely the place to go to find your forever fur baby!
First we fostered a cat from here which had been well taken care off. 3 months later we were ready to adopt him so ARNO help us out by offering online paperwork to sign him over to us.
Awesome pet adoption experience. Weve always gone to SPCA to adopt/rescue. First time anywhere else and this was an amazing alternative. These people truly love animals and take pride and joy in finding good homes for fur babbies.
Loved everything about their little shelter! Honestly, when first driving up, it doesnt look promising, but its not anyones fault. They are doing their best with the location given. The animals rescued here are all happy and having a great time. Tons of cats if anyone is interested!
This is how I felt even worse when the owner disrespected me as described in my most recent review... I frequently shop there and as you can see by my older reviews... I loved it. That was until the masks of its owner came off. This place is phenomenal. ALL of the workers care a great deal about the animals, as I was able to witness firsthand by volunteering here for one week through Michigan State University. For everyone complaining about smell and such...DO SOMETHING!! Come and volunteer. This organization is strapped on cash and operates solely on donations and volunteers. Leslie, Kate, and Tony are great. Ask for them if you want superb customer service.
Animals are supposed to be loved and taken care of. This shelter is a great place to have in any city so when you want or need love from an animal Please come to Arno to adopt an animal.
ARNO is an extraordinary organization that does so very much to help animals. We adopted our dog through ARNO. Yes, there is an application process, but kudos to ARNO for screening applicants so that these precious dogs and cats dont end up being used as bait in dog fighting rings or other horrible situations. The application screening process is a must to ensure animals well-being. We will definitely recommend ARNO to anyone looking to adopt.
The girl working was terrible. She kept looking at her watch. She didnt care we had a dog with a broke foot whom was malnutrition. I ended having to take the dog home to wait till I found another shelter to take him in. Poor dog... and now hopefully I can make a difference
ARNO is amazing. They found the perfect pup for us and we could not be happier
My experience here was one of my favorite animal shelters that I have ever visited. Every animal here is taken care of like they were their personal pets. The facilities are very clean and the staff make sure of that. The staff are also very accommodating and friendly.
Animal Rescue New Orleans is an amazing place, the people who volunteer there are energetic and sympathetic. They love the animals
Cant think of a better place to go if youre looking to adopt a pet! Great people! Wonderful support!
They are all so sweet there at ARNOs. Quick reply and visits. I just wish more people could donate to get better facilities for them.
The people in the office were rude. The shelter was hard to find and over crowded. The people who actually handle the approvals do not keep in touch with the wonderful volunteers who care for the animals and they lie.
Everyone was very helpful and friendly. Will definitely return in the future if I decide to add another pet to my family.
ARNO took in a cat which had been cruelly discarded in our neighbourhood at the Lakefront. I took her to ARNO, having an acquaintance who worked there, and the lovely people there found her a loving home. (We wanted to keep her, but just couldnt. My mother really bonded with the beautiful, sweet black and white cat, which had come to our house seeking escape from the uncaring man who was the owner. I brought her back a couple of times, but she always came back to my mother.) ARNO should stand for Angel Rescuers of New Orleans. Thank you, ARNO!
They are kind and compassionate to all the animals in there for whom they want to find forever homes
Great people! Adopt a new family member
Ive never met a group who is so completely devoted to the wellbeing and rehoming of animals, as the staff at ARNO. They do the best with what they have, and always striving to do more.
My husband and I visited this site today. We wanted to make a donation but didnt want to do it online. The facility for cats is super clean, lovely cats available. We fell in love with a large long-haired black one, but we already have three cats, and they barely get along.Maybe the guy who wrote a bad review met with a volunteer who was less than desirable. We only had interaction with two workers, and they were very easy to deal with. Were cat people, so we didnt visit the dogs.
Love this facility no frills just loved animals loking for a forever home. My cat is so very happy and will adjusted❤❤Thanks for all you do!!!!
It is clean and the volunteers are pleasant and very helpful. The animals appear to be well cared for.
Very caring animal rescue
Great rescue group. Everything is immaculately clean!
I found a dog and it was only 4:30 but I could not get anyone to help me. He seemed sick and not eating and I think he is blind. I tried this number because it said rescue, but they had a recording call the animal shelter near me, who I had called first and no one answer the phone. When I did get some one on the phone I was not in their perish so they could not help me. I dont have space for any pets or I would take care of this beautiful abused [puppy. So much for rescuing animals.
They are Wonderful, Being an older Disabled & Homeless Husband & Wife down on our luck, they took My BamBam and fixed him up.
Animals seem well taken care of. Nice, helpful crew.
I’ve been waiting on an email from them for about a week now, they’re open for 4 hours out of the day, and they allegedly don’t have a phone. First of all, what kind of organization doesn’t have a phone? And second, they respond to these kinds of reviews with “refer to our website” which then only gives email information, which is pointless since they don’t respond to emails???
Went in and checked out their 100 adult cats. They have about 12 cats per 4x4 cage. Really enjoyed going into each cage and finding a cat. We picked out a beautiful female cat to adopt and then hit the gauntlet. After filling out an extremely long application we got a call from a challenging and negative person that did not want me to adopt the cat right from the beginning. After spending two half-hour phone calls with this person lecturing me on how to care for cats, not to mention I am 62 years old and have raised cats my whole life, she said someone would call to schedule a home visit, which never happened.Tips if you do try to adopt a cat from here:1. Patience2. You have never and never will declaw a cat3. You never buy over the counter flea medication - only buy the most expensive meds from the vet4. You take your cat, even if an indoor cat, to the vet every year - three at the most. They will call your vet and check up on you.I didnt get the home visit, so no advice on that experience. What is really bad is we loved their mission. My wife and I discussed donations of money, items and time, but now we will not. We went to the Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter and adopted a beautiful female cat.
So kind and really dedicated to the animals. I love this place.
This is a rating on phone assistance only. They list a number to call but it is a lost of recordings of phone numbers. All i have is a simple question and no one answers the phone it is strictly recordings
Great people helping animals. They need another place with air and heat.
Love it
They do great things for animals feel free to help with laundry they only have one washer pick up wash drop it off would help them out greatly
Most wonderful basket for my fur babies thanks they loved everything
This is such a wonderful place to adopt (or foster) your next furbaby from.
As others have mentioned, I honestly kind of felt like they didnt even want me to adopt a kitten. They wanted to do a home inspection and have me fill out some kind of contact form just in case to have a back up person to take care of it. Also I was required to provide proof that I would by their specific type of flea medication, which was 20/month per cat. I wasnt comfortable with having a home inspection and honestly their attitudes were not even accommodating so I ended up just going on Craigslist and getting a kitten fixed and immunized myself. Also I had to fill out an application and go through a waiting period just for them to call me back a week later and say good good we looked over your application now we just need to come to your house. I was just looking to go there and come home with a kitten but they make it so hard nowadays Im not surprised to learn many animals there have gone unadopted for months.
Great place wonderful people animals are well cared for
They are very nice and take care of there dogs extremely well, I would recommend it and they have the sweetest dogs.
Person on phone was rude and unhelpful. Ended up turning over a kitten to LASPCA. Hated to do it, but was left with no options.
This place is horrible for any kind of making sense about adopting a pet. No one to talk to you have to wait on emails to talk to someone. They act like they dont want you to adopt. The process is ridiculous then they want you to donate. There is no reason this place should still be in business it is a scheme to get you to adopt the pet then make it impossible to keep the pet to their standards and then come and get the pet from you.
I dont have any experience adopting from ARNO, but its a great place to volunteer. For one, its a no-kill shelter, which means you wont be faced with having to say a final goodbye to any dogs at the shelter (unless theyre going to their new home!).Secondly, there isnt a mandatory orientation that you have to attend before you begin volunteering. Theres just a printout with some simple rules, a quick overview of where to walk and which leashes to use, etc. And then youre on your way.Thirdly, you dont have to commit to volunteering on any exact frequency. Over time, you get to know the other regulars and it gets to the point where you want to go as much for the people as for the dogs. But otherwise, you can just show up, on whichever night of the week you can, and itll be a big help.Volunteering consists of walking dogs around the block and cleaning up after them. I usually try to stop at some point along the route and just play with the dogs and give them some much-needed love. The team leads are responsible for cleaning the kennels while the dogs are walking, directing the other volunteers, showing around prospective adopters, and just about everything else. The cons:Not a lot of chances to socialize for newcomers, most of the walks are solo (occasionally there are pairs of dogs that can be walked together) so you really only get to chat with other volunteers in passing or before/after walks. Most volunteers are exceedingly friendly, but they arent going to want to hang out for a beer afterwards or anything because theyre covered in poop, or because its late and they have their own dogs at home to take care of.There are occasional fundraisers through the year that can be a lot of fun, though, and you do get to meet some great people as you go more and more. Also, this place is run on a limited budget and survives only because of its volunteers. As far as I know, theres only one paid staff member and way too much work to be done, so communications may not always be prompt. Some nights can be a little disorganized if its shorthanded, but once it gets started its fine. The trump card here is definitely the volunteers. Its inspiring how much time and effort is so freely given, especially by the daily team leads. Some short-term volunteers go because of court requirements, but all the regulars are there because they want to be. They arent getting paid and they arent getting recognized. But its what they believe in.If you have a spare couple hours every once in a while, give ARNO a shot!
Its PetSmart. Just like all the others.
Great people! Friendly and easy adootion process!
These guys are working hard to fight the good fight!
I came into this adoption process extremely positive and without any bias --I ended it fully disillusioned with ARNO. When I visited their facility to look at cats, I was rather shocked at the bad conditions the dogs were subjected to -- it was a typical hot summer day and I was shocked to find them in cages stacked inside a steaming hot garage (the cats were inside at least). While on-site, I struggled to find a volunteer who was able to help me ... I was just wandering the facility looking for someone for the longest time. I eventually found a sweet kitty that I wanted to adopt and took home an adoption application. When I got home I was shocked at just how long it was -- were talking 2-3 pages of crazily detailed questions about past pets and vets that took me 20-30 minutes to complete. The next day, I received a very patronizing call from an ARNO volunteer who had a question about my application: I had indicated that I planned to have my cat declawed because she would be strictly indoors. She said they will not adopt out to families who plan to declaw their cat. This is ridiculous, not only because it is a common procedure that can be done humanely, but because Ive been a loving cat owner for years and this woman was essentially insinuating that I was some kind of monster. In fact, I think ARNOs overly-strict adoption process is itself inhumane, as it puts up unnecessary barriers between animals in need and loving owners -- especially given the massive amount of animals who die on teh street regularly. Based on some of the other reviews Ive read, I know Im not alone. I will be visiting the LA SPCA tomorrow to give a kitty a new home and I wish the one that I regretfully left at ARNO very good luck -- hell need it in order to get adopted!
Great place to aid and adopt dog or cat
Rude staff that treated me like I am stupid or hard of hearing. Posted hours that arent even open to the public. Nearly impossible to reach in my wheelchair. Lied about bite risk dogs until you come in and see them yourself! Do not trust this organization as far as you can throw them.
Worked with them to adopt. They are so caring and want to ensure the adoption is successful.
I have adopted from ARNO & Ive also been a Proud Volunteer!! They ALWAYS go above and beyond for the animals they rescue!! I wish I still lived in NOLA!!
Great folks helping needy doggies
I was judged and not allowed to adopt a pet with out them knowing facts about me
It saves animals
Ginnie is a bad person. She was very hostile and clearly did not want me to adopt a pet. I can see that she has also made it hard for other people.
Helpful staff but the conditions could be a little better. Im sure they are cash strapped but there are much nicer locations for animal adoption.
All volunteers very nice and friendly
Great place to find loving pets
Very friendly to animals!!! No kill clinic.
Slow approval of applications. Made me change my mind
Nice staff
Went in with an emergency, and they saw us after the SPCA and another vet turned us away.
