Jason was very helpful in deciding what work we should do and the best way to make sure the floor transitions worked out and was seamless. I was thrilled with the work that Monk’s did for me and would highly recommend them for floor sanding and finishing work. I have to guess they pay a marketing company to clean their reviews. Monks has a very well deserved reputation for picking and choosing those they deem worthy as clients. Apparently my home and I did not make the cut. They came to discuss my project with me, made me jump through hoops choosing doors and floors and then never even bothered to provide a quote. I followed up with the person who came out and was told he was behind and I would have the quote by the end of the week. Still nothing, after a while I let the owner know what happened and he accused me of missing the quote. When I pointed out that he was mistaken and what he assumed was my quote was obviously not he made it pretty clear I was annoying him. He clearly couldnt be bothered with me or my renovation.

I have been working in the residential & commercial trades for over 40 years and saw what great work Monks did on my neighbors house & decided to try them. There is no other contractor that can offer all in house tradesmen no subcontractors ; designers, supervisors and most importantly their skilled craftsmen installers . You wont regret this choice. We had our kitchen remolded then our deck sanded and stained. Very happy from start to finish 5* operation.

From the first consultation to the post-work cleanup, our experience with Monks was far superior than what I had expected or even hoped for. They are not the cheapest option, but they are by no means overpriced! The quality of work that each of their employees provides is stellar. We hired Monks to paint the exterior of our home and do some light carpentry work. Roberto came out to the house and provided a thorough assessment of the work. He walked through every detail, provided an estimate based on everything we discussed, and checked in regularly. Jorge and his crew started with the carpentry work. They worked long days, were friendly, and made sure I was happy with the work. Titos crew then came in to paint the exterior. Again, Titos crew was fantastic. They were detailed and thorough. Overall, we were very happy with the experience and the finished product. We would definitely use them again.

Monks did very good work in installing deck rails on our deck for a reasonable price. But, I want to discuss their extraordinary service. They completed a fairly small job on schedule and gave it tons of attention. Unlike just about every other contractor in the business-- maybe in the entire world, they communicate with you. As soon as I contacted them, a person from their office made an appointment to look at the job. This person was always reachable by email. I got a prompt estimate in the proper form with all the legal requirements. I had some questions about their estimate and was advised to contact one of their contractors in the office. I called him and discussed the job and we agreed to a revised contract. I asked about their guaranteeing that the job would be signed off by the town inspector. They sent a person out to assess the work done by a previous contractor and then agreed to guarantee the permit sign off (which we got.) Im not ignoring the fact that the deck looks great. Monks should offer a course to contractors on how to work with their clients. They are experts.

I paid Monks many thousands of dollars to have my kitchen cabinets professionally re-stained white. It was a huge production. Since shortly after the project was finished, paint has been chipping regularly, as though it did not absorb into or adhere to the cabinets underneath. Everyone I know who did this themselves or paid a fraction of what I spent has had better results and durability than I did. Monks came back once or twice to do touchups but will not acknowledge shoddy workmanship and has stopped returning calls. Contractors since have indicated that the sanding was not adequate prior to painting causing paint not to absorb.

I had a deck repair that I needed done within short notice. Monks home improvement was recommended by my neighbor. They showed up on Tuesday, gave me a quote on site that day and started the job on Thursday. The team was reliable and professional. They showed up when they said they would and finished the job on time. I highly recommend them!

We had Monks refinish our hardwood floors in 2020 and recently had our kitchen cabinets painted and refinished by Monks. in both instances their team was very professional and was able to get the work done quickly (3 days for the floors and 4 days for the cabinets) and with very high quality. The floors were fairly beat up from years of foot traffic, two kids and a dog and the cabinets had some wear and were a bit dated. We couldnt be happier with the results and with their work. Our floors look almost brand new and the painting of the cabinets makes it look like we have a whole new kitchen.

We had Monks replace 8 windows in the house, replace outside trim that had rotted and paint the entire house. They were both responsive and did a great job. There were times I thought something needed replacing but instead of just doing it and charging me for it they showed me why it did not need to be done. I liked their attension to detail

Jon and the guys have done two separate painting jobs at our house. One an extensive first floor job including stair walls and the other a basement bathroom.We couldn’t have asked for more from these guys, hardworking, professional, friendly, efficient and the place looked so good and very tidy afterwards also. We had an incredible experience working with Monk’s. We wanted to install a new front door and they were extremely professional and helpful. Maria came out to estimate the job and Bruce helped us through the ordering process for our new door. Even in the heart of the pandemic, the communication never dropped off and they always answered all of our questions in a timely fashion. Maria consistently followed up, to assist with our decisions and always provided quick responses. We quoted out the job to a few other contractors that I had to chase down to even give us an estimate, which was very frustrating. Monk’s was very fairly priced and even beat the price of some of the other contractors. It was really a no-brainer when it came to deciding who to go with. The install was quick, perfect and also timely. Every appt we had where someone was coming to our property, the individuals arrived a few minutes before the scheduled time. It was really appreciated, as a few of the other contractors completely blew off our appt times.We will definitely use Monk’s again!!!

Absolute nightmare. Single worst contractor experience ever. Ordered new custom windows and french doors. Nothing came in as ordered. Installation was shoddy with paint left on the glass and hardware missing. Installation crew even painted plastic moldings which wer never supposed to be painted and improperly installed window moldings.Custom woodwork (moldings) looked like it was done by a 12 year old in woodshop. Months later we are still without proper hardware. Installation crew did not follow proper COVID protocols. I would not recommend them to my worst enemy.

$16,000 MISTAKE - Had Monks install engineered floors on our main floor, and pretty much everywhere you step, there are issues. Either the floors have unlevel spots from the glue not being applied evenly or boards flexing because the glue isnt adhering to the subfloor -- they did zero prep to my subfloor, including not using the self leveler they repeatedly brought up during the initial walkthrough. Even halfway through the install, we had concerns about unlevel spots, which is when we reached out to Trevor, the owner - he was supposed to come out and assess the work, but never showed up. Not until we were asked to write a positive review did we finally get him back out to our property to inspect the install. All he kept giving us was excuse after excuse, and that it was somehow our fault - our floors werent level, the floors we bought werent good quality (they were Armstrong at $6.50 sq ft not installed). On top of that, not once did he actually try to resolve any of the issues. Unfortunately, my wife and I learned the lesson the hard way - stay away from Monks - dont make the same mistake.*EDITED*You absolutely did not tell me to rip up the subfloor and have everything redone. YOU suggested glueing the floor down over my existing floor and YOU suggested that I did not need to use leveler because my floors were flat. If you did, how come it wasnt part of the estimate? By the way, the kitchen that was redone - one, still has the same pinched boards and two, now has more issues. I have to waste more material, hire another contractor, and fix your disaster of a job. I guess this is what I get for hiring inflated sales people and not a real contractor. Talk to any other license professional in Morristown, and all of them independently say youre crooks. It will be a nice day when all your nonsense catches up and you go out of business.

I had all new windows & doors, new sills and casing installed throughout my condo unit plus all rooms painted with new colors. Assistance of a color consultant was also offered since I have difficulty with colors. Thank you Tracey. Monks even installed heat baseboard covers for me, which I had already purchased. Overrated! Low quality! Rushed job!!!Had them in to do a bedroom paint and crown molding. The pictures speak for themselves. Mismatched pieces, misalignment, gobs of putty, cracking. See for yourself. Why pay for a professional when what you get is so bad.We have called back on many occasions to get this redone and nobody has taken ownership of this.Stay away! Dont pay their high prices for sub-DIY quality. Please see the pictures before you even call them. Horrendous.I will post a follow-up if anything changes.

Monks Home Improvements are top notch, the workers are all meticulous to detail, they have very competitive prices and very professional services.I had very complex custom molding installed on a tray ceiling in my master bedroom as well as crown molding and chair rails with shadow box moldings on my staircase and living room, the crew headed up by Jose were just suburb in their precision and attention to detail with carpentry and painting, I would also like to give a shout out to Ward who setup the projects, and Jose and his fantastic team of carpenters and painters. If you want any type of carpentry or painting done Monks is the place to go. Will be doing more business with them in the near future.

Every morning when I walk out the front door, I turn around and admire how amazing our house looks. I even trimmed trees and pulled shrubs to make sure it could be seen from the road.We had Monks replace our ailing front porch (see Basking Ridge photos in rows two and three of the Trim Repair gallery), strip and repaint the house, trim and front door and replace boards and refinish our deck.This was my first experience hiring a contractor for major work on the house. From the first time we met with Kurt we knew we had found someone that was going to partner with us and make sure the work was done right. He took the time to understand our goals, so there was never pressure to do extra work. Estimates and recommendations were reasonable and sensible. Never once did I feel like I was paying the Basking Ridge Price. The work was managed and coordinated very well. The team leaders were personable but very professional and the staff could not have been nicer. They did great work on the big jobs, but also took care of little extra details, like painting the mailbox post.Its been a year since the work was done and it still looks as good as it did a year ago. Hi - I met with Travis Marion (Monks) in late March 2017. After meeting with Travis and going through the work I wanted done, I immediately engaged the services of Monks. The work consisted of: porch painting (railings and sides), inside rooms painted, ceilings, kitchen and rec room on lower level. The price given to me for the services by Travis were fair and reasonable. The work was started the following week.The persons who came to do the work were first class. I hired Monks to do interior painting and wallpaper removal in a stairwell (with a skylight) and an upstairs hallway. Kurt Becker is great to work with - both with the estimates and with scheduling. The crew was very professional and punctual. They thought the job would take 3 days. They (2 men) started on a Friday at 7:45 am, worked all day and returned Saturday morning at 8:30am. In mid-afternoon they brought in additional help and were able to finish the job that day, thus eliminating the need to come back on Monday. They were neat and cleaned up everything each day. We are very pleased with the job.

In Spring of 2011 we needed general sprucing up around the house. After receiving one of their postcards in the mail, we called Monks for an estimate. The owner, Ty Monk came out himself. He was on time, professional and thorough in the estimating procedure. What I liked most about the process is that he pointed things out that could improve what I wanted without trying to pressure me into buying anything more. He gave me the price and I thought it was very fair. I agreed to hire them and chose a date for the work to begin.I was called by their office the day prior to work beginning to confirm everything and at 8 am the next morning the men showed up. They prepped all the work areas, were courteous and were done in under the the three days that they promised. The quality was excellent. When they left, my house looked new again and there were no signs that any workers had been there. I would definitely hire them again.

We used Monks for Exterior Painting entire house.bottom line, job was excellent start to finish. They started and finished on schedule. I was concerned ahead of time many of the shingles were going to break during the sanding process, i dont think they broke even one! Denis was our foreman. If you decide to go with Monks, I highly recommend asking for Denis and his crew. They were on time every day and worked 10-12 hour days. Denis was on site throughout the job to ensure a smooth process and there was clear communication throughout. They cleaned up every night before leaving and his entire crew were very professional. I gave Denis a very small punch list at end of job and the list was taken care of promptly, no questions asked. Their pricing for the job was in line with other painters in the area. I would highly recommend Monks.

Hired Monks a few years back to paint exterior of a 1948 Colonial. Their prices are higher than average, but weve been very pleased with the work. I cannot recall the names of the estimator or foreman, but both were excellent and responded promptly to all questions/concerns. The team worked quickly but thoroughly. Monks offers a three (?) year warranty, and we had them come back to do some touch-ups after the last icy winter. Very pleased with that service.

Monks Home Improvements is a class act. Jason was our estimator, and he was extremely professional in providing us a quote. He took his time and gave us a comprehensive quote that included everything we would normally have to ask questions about. He happily quoted a lot more work than we were actually going to start out with, but were so glad because we know over the next year we will be hiring Monks back to do more. It wasnt just a paint job in the two rooms that we had -- the walls had many imperfections and before we moved into the house they had been painted over incorrectly many times. The quality of the walls are now flawless from their preparation. The crew was friendly and neat. Very happy with our interior paint job. Kurt was great to deal with, as well as accurate at estimating the cost and time involved for a multi-step job. Wilson and crew were neat, clean and professional, and showed up on time every day. Any minor touch-ups were promptly addressed. They were flexible working around other contracting work we were having done at the time and managed to finish everything before we had family in for the holidays. The rooms look great and we will definitely be using them again.

I recently moved back into my home after renting it for many years. There was so much to do and Monks could do it all- and fast! It was such a pleasure dealing with Travis Marion. Great all around service from Monks. They did a fairly large job for us that included painting a bunch of rooms, replacing trim and installing windows. Everything was done in a manner that exceeded our expectations. Theyre willing to do any job big or small. Every day when they left they cleaned up like the job was done so that you couldnt even tell theyd been in the house. We will definitely use Greg and his team again.

Monk’s did a great job painting the interior of my home. Kurt had mentioned that if there was anything that I had a problem with, to let him know and he would make it right. Problem is…there was nothing wrong! They did a wonderful job!They covered the floors and furniture, painted the walls, ceiling and trim, all different colors. The “cutting” of lines between paint colors was impressive. They cleaned up well and we were left with very smooth walls and a truly professional job. These guys were terrific. I give them an A+.

Monks is the most efficient home improvement company I have ever encountered. Estimates are done on the spot. Ty is never pushy and always professional. Kurt and Alejandro stay on top of the projects and communicate effectively throughout. Their prices are competitive and their work is excellent. I have used Monks for both interior and exterior painting, as well as some carpentry work, and they have always completed the jobs in a timely manner. The painters are professional, quiet, and very neat. There are rarely any issues with the work but if there are small things (I tend to be a bit overly critical) then Monks is happy to fix the nit-picky things until everything is perfect. I have had my house painted several times in the last 10 years. Each time, it began to peel after just a few short years. After seeing the work the Monks do in prepping a house and totally sanding it down before priming and painting - I was impressed. I contracted with them and am glad that I did. They came when they said they would, the team prepping and painting the house were attentive, clean and quick. They did an outstanding job and my house looks great. Since the house was completed about 2 weeks ago, I have gotten 2 follow up calls from the Monks just to make sure that I was satisfied with the work. What else can you ask for? Our new kitchen is beautiful! Melissa helped us through the design and Bill and his boys made it happen, offering us solutions that fit our familys needs. They always left our home cleaner than when they got there and finished before they projected that they would. Our project manager, Bill, communicated with us constantly and made what we thought would be a huge disruption to our lives, a painless experience. Every inspection and trade was scheduled and monitored by Bill; we never had to take off work. I have already recommended Monks to others, and will continue to do so. We just moved into our new home and could not wait to cover the builders spray coated walls with real paint. We also wanted to add crown molding and wainscoting to our living room, dining room and kitchen. We heard great things about Monks so we gave them a call. We met with George D. and he assured us his team could get the whole house painted and all the woodworking done in less then a weeks time and that they could start the work in a few days. The work started on time with a very polite and professional crew. They covered all the floors and stairs and plastic wrapped all our furniture and appliances. The entire job was finished in exactly 5 days and the job was impeccable. We were so happy to find a company that did both the painting and woodworking. Frequent no-shows, messed up paint colors, incorrect paint finishes. Had to double check all the work, (uneven walls, missed entire portions of a wall with paint, crooked bathroom vanity). When confronted with the corrections, Monks did them, but subsequent request for approvals were met with cheeky comments like, Since you have a critical eye, I wanted to check and see if the work was to your liking. It doesnt take a critical eye to notice you missed an entire section of a wall.I shouldnt have to be asked to approve sub-par work. As professionals, I would hope that theres some pride taken in your projects and you notice that something is wrong with your work and you fix it; not ask me if something is OK because doing it correctly would be extra work.In the end, I just said everything is fine because the project has already been going for weeks longer than estimated.

It seems like Monks can do it all!!Recently I had a flood on my second floor. Kurt, the estimator, was great at a fast and accurate estimate and the job of repairing our laundry room and family room was quickly scheduled and completed beautifully. He was able to schedule us quickly to meet a deadline of family coming into town. His team was prompt, hard working, precise and courteous. My husband and I are extremely happy with the end result. Weve used Monks several times for interior and exterior painting, and their carpenters did some repair work for us. It was always a great experience when they were working at our house. Monks has always done great work for me. Put new tile in the basement, repainted the basement. Repainted the outside of the house. But great work and great service has to go together. We had our porch painted by them 3 to 4 years ago along with the entire outside of our house. Now the entire porch is peeling off and we are not getting any help and very little response when we asked for their help to resolve the issue. We had Sherman Williams confirm that it happened because of poor prep work. Now we will get charged to fix it.UPDATE: Trevor came out and confirmed that he would take care of it. He was the one who came for the original downstairs revamp and didnt realize it was him. I have to give him credit for responding so quickly when he realized the problem.

We used Monks during the holidays to install our kitchen cabinets, a vent hood over the stove, and our appliances. They did a great job! Kurt showed up to give us an estimate and he had the crew here within a few days to complete the work. We loved working with Esteban. He was able to communicate with us on all details throughout the job. Prices were very reasonable. We will be using them for all future projects for sure!

Monks Home Improvement and Painting are absolutely the best! My husband and I used their surfaces for interior wall repair and painting. The professionalism of the crew was unmatched.We intend to use their services again and we obviously would highly recommend the company.The only complaint is that my husband had to keep on top of all the construction and painting. Without my husbands diligence, the job would not have been completed on a timely basis. Monks Painting and Carpentry is exceptional. I just believe that maybe the company has expanded too much.I would certainly recommend this company. But, be prepared to monitor the job closely.

Monks sanded, restained and refinished, our floor and staircase and repainted several rooms. Owner is trustworthy, knowledgeable about the latest products and services, with solid follow-up and strong emphasis on customer service. Excellent workmanship, skilled, and patient workers, who are reliable, trustworthy, detailed oriented, and take pride in their work. A bit more expensive then some others, but well worth the few extra dollars. Would highly recommend checking out Monks for any home project. We will definitely use them again.

Last year Travis Marion supervised a renovation of my fathers house for re-sale; new kitchen, bathrooms, interior and exterior painting, restoring hardwood floors throughout house, masonry, windows, etc. The house sold on the fourth day. Now Travis Marion is renovating our house as well ; kitchen, bathrooms, raising the ceiling with skylight, and painting the interior. Cindy Mareck has been exceptional in providing design support and materials appropriate for the renovation within our budget. Highly recommended.
