I love the Montclair Y. I have been a member for over 15 years. There is a familial vibe that is very special.,It is very clean. The staff is friendly and helpful. There is a varied choice of classes and work out space. Worth the price of admission
Great, clean gym space and super-friendly front desk staff; shout out to Kira and Karen especially👏🙌 Thank you YMCA of Montclair for providing me with a positive experience!
The staff is exceptional. Karen and Ronni at the front desk will always bring sunshine for you even on a rainy or cloudy day. Isabella, Anaya, and Warren at the pool deck are always very friendly and kind. Troy in the weight room will keep you smiling even early in the morning. I wholeheartedly recommend this facility. The patrons are also very nice.
From the friendly reception staff that greets you by name to the passionate, enthusiastic and energetic trainers that lead the group classes make going to the Montclair YMCA a delightful experience. Starting and maintaining a fitness routine is challenging but the clean facility and great trainers- who modify workout routines to accomodate all fitness levels, motivate you to stay on course.
Honestly this is so disappointing to say but this is one of the most unprofessional ymcas I’ve been to. My daughter recently came up to this dmv for swimming classes for Saturday’s and they told her she first had to do a membership and to come back 3 days later to sign up for the Saturday classes and they told her that they are no Saturday classes .. which they said would be available… now she is trying to get a refund and they are giving her a hard time and every time she leaves a message they never get back to her . Please don’t go to this YMCA .
Seems like there’s a big disregard for employee and member safety. Very disappointed in this Y and how they have handled EVERYTHING. I recommend going elsewhere to a YMCA that actually cares about its people. Also side note did you guys know no more cleaning protocols is being done at this gym
They have a decent swimming pool and pretty much have the market cornered as the only game in town. The staff is nice but the pool is run by a small groups of outside Karens. Very weird. If you are not part of the clique, forget about it. It is like High School. The only “lives” that matter to them are the “Karen’s” that complain.
It is a great and clean place to work out! staff is so nice!
I used to go here years ago for After school activities like basketball games they also have a adult pool and a kid pool and a gym and several other programs they have summer camps as well lots at the Y
Im not a member of YMCA and only come here for the adult swim lessons. Im currently on my fourth season meaning this is four times taking their swim lesson session. So far its been great. The instructors are friendly, patient, and encouraging. However I should clarify that I go to the evening swimming classes. Two seasons ago, I tried one of the weekday morning class and I did not like it. I thought one of the instructors there was unfriendly and made me feel unwanted. I had to go to the morning class instead of the evening due to other obligation that day. And I get it. Once you have your class and you bond with your students, someone new coming in can change the group dynamic. But it does not excuse the vibe that I got being there. Luckily I got assigned to a different instructor that day so it worked out. Back to the swim classes. Classes are offered Mondays & Wednesdays 10:15am & 7:30pm, or Tuesdays & Thursdays 8:30pm. Classes are 45 minutes. There is a Saturday classes for people who cannot make it on the weekdays The downside is that its super crowded. I know I said Im on my four season, which is not pocket change. One more season, and I would be looking at a thousand dollars on swim lesson. So this season should be my last. This does not mean it will take YOU four seasons to learn. Everyone learn at their own pace. Im just a slow learner when it comes to swimming. But it is worth it. Great instructor, clean facility, and accommodating schedules.
I play basketball and we played against Montclair here and the gym is horrible. It’s horrible because there is no corner 3 and the roof is so low that when u shoot from the corner the ball just hits the roof and it is the opponent team’s ball. The court is so tiny that it isn’t even a full court like our home gym. But except for the gym this place looks nice including good food places to eat around here.
Excellent place to exercise and relax so far clean hopefully continue like this
The YMCA of Montclair is an adequate gym. They have a lot of good features: indoor track, sauna/steam room, pool, cardio room, etc. and the staff were always super friendly If you are looking for a variety of classes and an opportunity to swim, the YMCA is for you.The weight room, however, is incredibly disappointing. The weight room itself is very small, making it hard to get around and get in a good workout when the room is crowded. The equipment is dated and legitimately rusted. There are a good variety of weight machines, but only 4-5 benches and 4 barbell/squat racks. If you like using a barbell and/or dumbbells, I think there are more reasonably priced gyms in the area with better equipment.
I have been going to this YMCA for the last 4 months, and have found it to be very good value for money. I have taken Yoga and Belly dancing classes; the instructors are friendly and very good. I have also started swimming laps in the pool a couple of times a week, and enjoying the steam room. The place is kept nice and clean. I have found it to be one of the most ethnically diverse gyms I have been to, and I like that people of all ages are welcomed.
Ive been going here for 4 years. Its a great facility. Hard to find the combination of weight room, cardio room, pools, gym, courts, classes, track, sauna, steam room anywhere else. Great staff. Friendly and helpful. People are very approachable here, members and staff alike.
I have been a member for almost 2 years. The facility is pretty clean and well maintained. Staff is very nice and helpful. Loads of great classes, ample showers, and they have a POOL!The big downfall is the awful really awful parking in Montclair. Dont dare go at 7am or 6pm because you will spend an hour searching for parking.
One of the BEST GYMS IN THE USA ! A great place where friendly people of all ages and cultural ethnic backgrounds share in the joy of exercising. And the core of staff are knowledgeable and always helpful. They do their best to make you have a happy wonderful experience. They work hard every day keeping things consistently running well and clean. I have been a member for over 25 years. The result is that I am very healthy, in fantastic shape, lean, keen, muscular and have slowed the aging process way down. The YMCA in Montclair has been a source of my life blood. I owe the facility a lot for providing the opportunity to be in good health.
I love that the montclair YMCA includes programs for kids and seniors and everyone in between. The facilities are excellent and there are many good classes. The pools are kept clean, as are the locker areas. When my kid was little we took advantage of many programs there, and now that my kid is off at college I continue to enjoy all aspects of the Y. My only suggestion is that now with the increase in interest in yoga and more yoga classes .
The aftercare branch and camp branch of this facility is amazing! However, the staff at the Montclair branch itself is horrible. I made an EARLY payment for camp which was approved. The very next day a random card they had on file was charged the same I amount I paid already EARLY! I NEVER gave consent for this other card to be used. After being tossed around to about five people I finally spoke with JOY who was horrible to me. After I explained I did not appreciate the way she spoke to me she said well Im having a bad day. First off that was not professional of her and Im sorry she was having a bad day but that does not mean you take it out on a paying customer who paid EARLY! She went on to say she was receiving a lot of problematic calls and that she doesnt know what I expect. If they were chasing me for money and I told them I was having a bad day I doubt that would of been an acceptable answer. Either way, my experience today has me seriously considering pulling my son from this YMCA altogether. A simple apology and acceptance of their error would of been fine but instead they treated me as if I did something wrong by paying EARLY. BEWARE, avoid speaking to JOY when she is having a bad day. IF I COULD GIVE JOY ZERO STARS I WOULD. I guess she doesnt care if she causes the YMCA to lose me as a customer bc they have so many others.
Love this gym, especially the aquatics program. One pool is kept at 83 degrees which makes all the difference if you are over 40 and have arthritis. Aquacise is fun and offers a great workout. A lifesaver!
I love this place! Its like a family, everyone helps each other. No one is an outcast.
Considering how diverse Montclair is, it speaks volumes that instead of doing an internal review to address these complaints of racism by several people, YMCA of montclair seem to be responding with policies and going as far as posting patrons account details. Money has no face and I hope your corporate headquaters gets a whiff of how much money they are losing due to their representatives lack of business decorum. I along with several people that Ive encountered in Montclair were considering enrolling our children in a few programs at this facility but decided to invest our money at more professional establishments.
YMCA of Montclair is located in the center of town near Bloomfield Avenue. Conveniently located near NJ Transit bus (# 11, 28, 29, 34, & 97) & DeCamp NY bus (#66R), EZ Ride bus (for 55+ Montclair residents) stops, and metered parking lots. There is a list of opportunities available for all ages from 6 years to 100+. There are two heated pools, weight room several exercise rooms, a full size gym, fitness staff, and community room (for teens & seniors). The Y staff are professional and they strive to address the needs of the diverse community.
Over all the staff is wonderful and try to help when they can. I love the programs and the options.I begrudgingly joined for health reasons and was angry about it, (poor staff members). I found something I can do and do little of the things Ive avoided doing all my life (ugh). THERE IS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE!I didnt give five star rating because that is reserved for the program that will come to my house and give me a workout while I am sleeping. IT COULD HAPPEN!
I really like the patrons and the staff here but I have been a member for almost 4 years now and no upgrades at all. Its not cheap to be a member here and the equipment has never changed...still the same old dusty and broken down equipment. Its a disappointment honestly.
Disgusting treatment by the staff members with no respect towards any children or teen members. Ive experienced it first hand many times since Ive joined and its only been about 3 months.
Very clean, very friendly members. I enjoy coming here.
Clean and affordable place to exercise
I have been a member for 5 years! I made a lot of friends here! I love group classes!
One woman, I cant remember her name but she is dark skinned and looks to be of East Indian background, is just a flat out racist. She lied about the programs, availability of tours and membership over the phone and in person. A white woman with redish, blond hair had to step in and give me the correct information. In the locker rm, a few of the Russian women ( I recognized some of the words) looked very interested in my being there. Over looking these racist elements, the gym is ok.
I tried to enroll my daughter for the after school program. I was told to come and do the apllication as I had already completed two that were claimed to be misplaced or lost. I went in and spoke to Heidi who told me that the program was expensive and I had to have the money in by Friday. This was irrelevant and unecessary. I did not ask nor care about the cost. just looking for a program for my daughter. I took the $390 on Thursday but was told it was full. So unfair. I guess my daughter, who is very well behaved, very talented and a n A-B student was not good enough.
A nice place to get fit.
I don’t like this y, the Montclair branch run by very rude women, I am already a member in y meadowlands but it is some what far to my home so it is easier to me to go to Montclair branch, there is a lady called Linda she is flat out of racist she refused to let me use the gyme cause she told me I have to use my home y more than their y and the weather that day was horrible I will never go there again
Great, been a member since I was 3
Rude staff who have no respect for the teens and are very judgmental for the most part.
The staff treat the customers pretty badly and in a race manner they prevented a friend from entering for no reason only because of racism
Racism still exist... SMH IN 2012
I used to love this Y but it’s really falling apart. The staff also not what it used to be.
This place is very tough and the crew lack the experience to deal any problem and I am already advice any body don’t go there as they always flat out racism for some people
The people make this a very special place. It is the towns center.
