Two Texas residents have been named in an elaborate, decade-long scheme to defraud the U.S. government, according to U.S. Attorney Ryan Patrick.Federal authorities named 14 people and one company in an extensive $26 million plot involving the international trade of tires from China, according to an indictment released by the Department of Justice on Tuesday.Authorities arrested Texas residents, Zheng “Miranda” Zhou, 53, of Missouri City, and Kun “Bruce” Liu, 40, of Sugar Land in connection with the scheme. Houston-area tire company Winland International Inc—known as Super Tire Inc.—was also named in the indictment.China and its industries want to rob, replicate and replace American made goods and technology,” said Patrick. “Illegally importing and dumping these goods is one way to systemically weaken American competitors. Whether direct espionage by the Chinese government or trade fraud like in this case, we will continue to investigate and prosecute every case we can.”
