I went to the Hennepin County Medical Center Crisis Residence on Chicago Ave and 36th because the previous week had been so stressful that I was having a nervous breakdown.The staff was horrible. They argued with me about my meds, even though the head nurse told me that she had instructed them not to do that.I thought that I would be welcomed with sympathy and compassion, because of the state that I was in, but most of the staff was harsh. They played games and gaslighted.I had several doctors appointments while I was there, for which one is usually given a pass, but they resented that I went to my appointments. Like many non-profit, service organizations, they seem to think that poor people have nothing to do with our time and that we are completely at their disposal.I got a lecture the first day about how they expected the residents to be independent, but when I independently took myself to my appointments, I was expected to be dependent on their schedule of group activity.The social worker, or mental health worker, asked me on the sixth day of a ten-day stay if I wanted referrals to a longer term facility! I got a list of referrals for them later that day and gave it to them, which they never used.On the 10th day, I was unceremoniously kicked out, and the man who did it stuck his head out of the door and said, If you had stuck around, we would have helped you. When I asked him what he meant, he said that they would have given me help with referrals if I had gone to their groups. So they punished me for going to my doctors appointments! That might be illegal; its certainly immoral.The mental health care given by Hennepin County Medical Center is poor quality in general and very poor quality in this particular instance.
