I trust these guys - they always give me a fair price and work with me plus explain things well, even though my car knowledge is basic to non-existent. I cant recommend them enough.

Ive used many garages in the Twin Cities, and must say that I have been favorably impressed by several, but Green Garage consistently stands out from the crowd. At this point, theyre the only mechanics I go to. They do quality work, are up-front about pricing and have never tried to up-sell me on anything, and generally get things done with a very quick turnaround. But perhaps what Ive appreciated the most is the quality of communication. Theyre very good at making sure that customers understand whats going on with their vehicle, and keeping them informed as repairs progress. Highly recommended!

I’ve been going here the last few years for standard checks/maintenance and oil changes. They do an amazing job with all services and I fully trust all of the recommendations I have been provided. This place has excellent service, the techs and manager are knowledgeable, and they dont gouge you on the prices. Everyone I talk to about the work I get done here, and prices, always tells me I got a great deal. Ive always been able to make appointments in less than a week, and theyve never needed my car for more than a few hours. Plus, if you dont have a ride, theres plenty to do in the neighborhood!

They explained why it wouldnt be worth the cost of the repair. Didnt even charge us for a diagnostic, where the dealership would have charged $200!! Highly recommend.

I’m not one to write reviews, but my recent experience with Doug at Green Garage was so seamless and awesome, that I feel obligated to do so!I have lived in the uptown area for years and have never found a shop I’ve been happy with, until now. From start to finish, the process was not nearly as painful as expected, especially for us gals who are a little out of our element in an auto shop. Engaging and accommodating, Doug and his brand of customer service, plus quirky humor, made the experience almost fun! The ease and timeliness of scheduling an appointment, the offer of a loaner vehicle, straightforward quote & information, topped by very reasonable pricing, all make for a happy return customer. Doug and his team were impeccable with their customer and auto services, promptness, and communication. The pricing for repair and additional services was affordable and reasonable. I had to drop it off a second time to tighten up a heat valve (or something) that was making rickety noises under the vehicle, and Doug and his team fixed it in less than 30 minutes and my car is now driving and sounding peacefully. Overall, I am very satisfied and confident in Green Garages quality attention to my vehicle maintenance and repair needs.I highly recommend their services.

Would not recommend my wife’s Subaru was just fine before we brung in for some small repairs now the entire car is going out we are from mn and broke down in middle of Wisconsin a week later this other shop that they sent us to can’t figure out why car is failing.

I went here on Thursday March 25th 2021 for them to place new brake pads on my VW Jetta. Unfortunately the brakes I bought were for the wrong year. I was contacted shortly after dropping off my car with this information. They also informed me that my calipers in the rear would need to be replaced and quoted me 1000 dollars for the calipers, brakes and rotors. I informed them that I would just take care of it seeing as I have worked on my own cars for years and was just going in for the conveniency aspect considering I am a health care provider that travels from client to client and need a reliable vehicle. When I return to the shop they gave me my keys and were polite about the exchange. I get into my car and notice that there is a Brake Pad Wear Indicator light on my dash which wasn’t there before I dropped it off. I then went to work on my car on Sunday March 28th and come to find out that they have over torqued my tires making it practically impossible to undo. After working on taking off the lug nuts for an hour I undo them and place on the new brakes and rotors and replace the caliper and notice due to the negligence the other rear caliper needed to be replaced. After all that I noticed that someone had cut my brake sensor at this shop. I’m not sure if they thought just because I’m a young female I wouldn’t notice all of these mistakes and would return. I’m honestly disappointed and sick to my stomach that there are people working at this place that would do such a thing. Thank you.

Update: July 10, 2019:My experience with Nelsons Garage (Green Garage) did a 180-degree turn for the better. I am incredibly satisfied with the service provided by Nelsons Garage (Green Garage)-East Hennepin Ave location. I had a very honest, open, productive conversation with Nick Nelson owner of Nelsons Garage-Green Garage. Once he read my initial review he contacted me by phone and asked how he could make my experience with his auto repair shop better. I explained the issues I had with the Nicollet Ave-Green Garage/Nelsons Garage location and he graciously offered to see if he could get my 1997 Ford F-150 Truck fixed, no charge to me. I was stunned. This isnt something you get from local mechanic shops but Nick wanted his shop to stand out in the neighborhood and the community.I scheduled to drop my truck off to the East Hennepin location and coordinated things with Tim, the manager who by the way is a great person to talk to and work with on your vehicle. To the defense of Caleb and the team at the Nicollet Ave location, the problem that was finally diagnosed was something a bit beyond the knowledge level of that team. This took a seasoned, veteran mechanic who has seen this issue before to diagnose and potentially fix.Note: To Nick Nelson, it would be good ideas to have all locations coordinate a knowledge base when one location is faced with a diagnosis like my truck. Get help from the other shops. This bolsters the strength of Nelsons Garage in all locations.Nicks team went above and beyond to make my experience productive, respectful and I am forever grateful to them for that. Nick refunded all of the money I had already spent with them at the other garage trying to diagnose my truck issue. I know what is wrong with my truck, I can take steps to get it fixed or sell it. Knowledge is power and Nick Nelson and Nelsons Garage gave me the power I needed.There are not many shops that would offer to refund all of your money and diagnose your problem at a low to minimum charge. Not many mechanic shop owners with the character, integrity, honorability, respect to provide the service he provided me. This is rare in the world and rare in the Twin Cities area for auto repair shops.Nicks business is based on his ethics, values, character, and morals and from my experience they are top notch. People should not take for granted that auto repair shops like Nelsons Garage are a dime a dozen, they are NOT!Many of the Mom and Pop auto repair shops are being priced out, bullied out, by the city of Minneapolis, by unethical developers buying up properties and buying off politicians to hurt small business owners like Nick Nelson and Nelsons Garage. We as a community need to stand with and financially support our neighborhood auto repair shops because if we dont all that will remain are the dealer repair shops where you overpay for the shiny new building and lounge area they have.If you feel you had a bad experience with one of Nelsons Garage locations I strongly encourage you to contact Nick Nelson before leaving a negative/bad review. I wish I had. Nelsons Garage will get my business even if I live on the other side of town or in the suburbs its well worth it.My initial review was less than 1 star because I left Green Garage without a clear diagnosis and out $288-$60 refunded initially. I have no knowledge about cars and was very nervous about being taken advantage of. The mechanics at Green Garage were extremely friendly and kind. Turns out my car had a relatively quick-fix issue, but I took it in without an appointment, the mechanics took 45 minutes to fix it up and then didnt charge me anything for their service. Highly recommend Green Garage! Very friendly, excellent customer service, and a comfortable waiting room!

I recently had my catalytic converter replaced here and they were able to fix it the same day I called, and even installed the replacement hatch panel I brought in for free! I have been to the Green Garage a few times and they are great about taking the time to explain the issues with your car and discussing your options.

Theyre never after your money, and give top notch service for an honest price. Weve looked into places closer to our side of the city, but the quotes for even a simple oil change are 3x more than GG. While we have brought our 4Runner here a few times and have had great experiences - the one today was not great. We dropped it off in the morning and they said they would take a look at it and call when they find out what is wrong. They called and said it was ready to be picked up (not having called before performing the service) and made it sound like a simple fix. Turns out it was $240. It frustrates me the clear lack of communication and them not calling before working on it. We felt blindsided and taken advantage of.

Came to this shop and despite them not being able to figure it out because it was pierced to the core (odd occurence) didnt charge me for a few hours of complex labor, I sense they understood my situation and decided charging me as well as lying to me wouldnt be worth it.i hope this business sticks around.

Ive been extremely impressed with this garage and the people who work here. They actively look for ways to save me money and make the repair process as convenient as possible. Ive never had to wait for service and have consistently been impressed with their customer service. Friendly people, and Ive never felt like theyre trying to take advantage of my lack of car knowledge. (Rather than charging me hundreds of dollars to replace something that another shop told me I needed to replace, they figured out a way to repair the original part for mere dollars.) I just moved to the Minneapolis area from Chicago. Went here for an oil change and complained about a really loud noise coming from my car upon acceleration. They changed the oil/filter with a fair price and fully inspected the vehicle and fixed the noise issue for free! I am definitely coming back here whenever I need my car serviced! Caleb was very nice and knowledgeable.

I brought my car in because my air conditioner was not blowing cold air. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. All I needed was a freon refill. My overall cost was very reasonable, and I was satisfied with the way I was treated. My service was completed within an hour. I was pleasantly surprised by how clean the waiting area was and appreciated snacks and soda while I waited. Green Garage definitely earned a customer for life.

So Im up in Minneapolis with my family, checking out potential move here from Florida. Now, Ive taken many road trips in various vehicles, and had to do work on them as I travel. Ive learned its the perfect time to take advantage of someone, as youre not going to be around to complain about it later.Before driving back, I wanted to get the alignment checked on my Tacoma, as well as see if there was anything else that might need to be addressed for long travel. They got me in on short notice, and not only reassured me that the alignment was fine, the truck didnt need other work, but alerted me that to what might become an issue down the line. Keep in mind that they know Im not going to be around actually do the work at their shop. And, they didnt (wouldnt even though I wanted to pay him for his time) charge me a dime.He even helped me find a place that I could get a part that had come off my truck! The green garage what I want all auto repair places to be: honest, efficient, precise. Thanks!

These guys rock. I was having belt problems on my 2013 rio and when I came in the replaced the belts in an affordable and timely manner. When the issues persisted and I returned a week later they fixed my problem for free! I will be back for any car needs.

Ive been a customer of this auto garage for many decades and the quality of the work has always been excellent!

Had an off feeling from the get-go when I took my car to another Nelsons location and it ended up here; my gut turned out right.When they moved my car here, they didnt lock it. The shop is adjacent a shelter for recovering drug users (which Im glad is operating there, and is badly needed), so youd figure they would be careful about this sort of thing. However, they werent, and my car was broken into, and several expensive items (GPS unit, sunglasses, backup wallet) were stolen from the center console and trunk (Id have missed this if they hadnt forgotten to replace the side panels in the trunk after taking it apart), and a cigarette was left in the cup holder. (I dont smoke cigarettes.) To their credit, they bought me a new GPS, but said they cannot reimburse for other items and told me theyve been taken to court over this before and have been found to not be liable for stolen items.I took the car after it would not start up. The first time, they failed to see any problem at all, so the $100 towing charge was for naught. The second time this happened, they were able to find the problem. The fuel pump needed to be replaced. They quoted this job at just shy of $1000. Once I looked up the parts and subtracted the cost of labor and parts from the quote, I found they were overcharging by about $400. This price dropped substantially once I communicated this by phone. (If I hadnt known this, though, Id be in the hole for quite a bit of money.) The fuel pump they replaced in my car was defective, so I had to bring it back for them to install a new one.While replacing the fuel pump, they broke a rubber gasket in the engine. They noticed this and replaced it. However, the fuel gauge is still reading incorrectly. On top of that, on a road trip shortly afterwards, my exhaust & muffler dropped down and rattled against the road. I pulled over immediately and took it to a local shop, where they were able to repair it shortly. The straps holding the exhaust on were fine; it turns out, the mechanics who dropped the exhaust and tank earlier hadnt properly replaced the straps holding the exhaust in, so when it hit a bump in the highway, it just fell out.To be clear, I dont own an exotic car thats hard to work on. Its a Chevy. After this, Ive done all the work myself and havent had any such issues. If I can do a better job with borrowed tools and YouTube, best steer clear of this shop.

Friendly, knowledgable, reasonably priced. I took my Pontiac Grand Prix here for a second opinion after getting a very expensive work estimate from another shop. This place took a couple hours to inspect my vehicle, gave me a very thorough explanation of all findings over email, and then the mechanic showed me on the vehicle where each of the problems were occuring and the impact of each issue. I have a very limited understanding of cars and the mechanic was very good about explaining things in a way I could understand. He was also very happy to answer my follow-up questions. Ultimately, this shop found issues the previous shop did not and offered fixed them all for less money that the smaller, but more expensive, work order at the other place.

My car was making some horrible noises so i toll it to Green Garage and had a fantastic exportable. This may sound bad, but it took a few stop in’s since I use my car daily as an outside sales person. Doug was more than accommodating, Nick allowed me to use a rental car and even drove me home at the end of the day before I was able to get the car. If that’s not service that’s above and beyond, I’m not sure what is. No matter the fix, stop by and see the Green Garage staff. Honestly, expertise, efficiency and customer service are all priorities here. They are owned by Nelson’s which has a few locations and this applies to them as well! Will always be my go-to garage.

I hope Frenz Automotive remains in business for many years to come because I have yet to find an auto repair shop as reliable as them!Fun story - 10 years ago, I brought my car to them when a friend recommended them to me after my car had been sitting around for months after a nightmare bill estimate from Autopia in Uptown (they said my car shouldnt be driven until they fix it - with a hefty price tag). The folks at Frenz looked at it (and also looked at the list of necessary fixes Autopia gave me), assured me that the car just needed new rotors (and just one pair!), and that itd be less than $200. Lo and behold, they were right! The car ran great (and safely, might I add) until I said farewell to it after passing 260,000 some miles...That experience created a Frenz customer for life. Go to Frenz, you wont regret it!
