Gym facilities are fine, though nothing special. The problem is with member services, who took dozens of calls to cancel my membership and continued to charge me even when they said theyd take care of it. Awful, deceptive billing practices.
Best place ever! All the instructors are super awesome and of course they are when they have Ryan the owner of this place! Great people lift heavy have a brew or two and actually get a real workout in!
Love this place. It has everything I need and more. But the Projector in the Cardio Cinema needs to be replaced and you will then receive a 5 Star review from me.
Love this gem of a place. Delicious beet salads and a dreamy hibiscus iced tea. Sweet staff, pretty patio, and if youre lucky, live music.
Such a fun place to visit!! Got a short workout in before lunch. It was really fun trying out all of the equipment and a great change of pace since I usually workout indoors.
If they went back to normal hours Id give them 5 stars.
I did a 7 day trial. It was a successful week. Visited 5 of my 7 days. Ill try to be as concise but comprehensive as I can about my experience, because theres a lot to consider here, and I really tried to go for as much variety as possible to make sure I knew every inch of this place by the end..First Ill say, I dont believe in docking points over covid policy and how well it may or may not be practiced. I imagine nobody at this location really has much of a choice in the matter, and it would be unfair to chip away at the reputation of this long standing gym over temporary measures.I lost my hotel job in the city (covid) and deeeeply regret not checking this place out during that time, because I was 2 blocks away, and would have joined without hesitation. Unfortunately now I have to commute out of the city for my seasonal full-time job, so I sadly cant logically join for that reason, but absolutely will if my life were to turn fully urban again. With all that out of the way, simply as a facility to gain access to, this is undoubtely the most unique option in town. As a unique guy, I dig that a lot.The stacked format with 5 floors is very cool and offers a lot of natural light, especially for cardio, because there are two separate cardio floors with views overlooking the mke river, which Im a total sucker for, and makes for a beautiful post-workout run (I just have a weakness for elevated gyms. The higher the better 🙃).The place was a bit labyrinthian to navigate at first, took me two days to find the whirlpool (more on that later).. but despite this, my first couple days of pretending to know where everything is, got me familiar enough to feel good about the layout, which overall could handle a decent number of people at a time doing resistance machines, without feeling overcrowded. Like if things did get too crazy on the lifting deck for example, then you can find alternative ways, using cable machines on the 2nd floor, to work similar muscles in peace. Only downside being some stuff is a bit dilapidated just from the age of the gym. Plus theres a whole separate set of lighter dumbells down there, which can come in handy during peak hours... Lots of options that simply dont exist at PF, which is my basis for comparison at this point, and has an overcrowding problem of its own.Its worth noting that I dont park here because I still live close by, so consult other reviews if thats important to you.The rest of the review is nothing against the location. They gotta do what corporate wants. I want this review to be seen as an objective one. If I went to another golds that sucked, I wouldnt give that one 4 stars. With all that said, I do want to mention covid things that make no sense in my opinion. Since thats what a review is, so please just take it as such. The whirlpool.. I said Id come back to it... Not gonna lie, I was very excited to find out theres a hot tub downtown accessible to me, because theyre even hard to find at hotels around here (Pfister doesnt have one, fun fact, just hampton and nothing else from what my old boss and I searched, although idk about the new 2020 hotels)... Anyway, when I finally found the hot tub, it was next to the 3 lane pool, which at the moment only allows two people in the entire space as a whole. You are in water that is half composed of a cleaning chemical, how does that make sense?I was equally bummed to see the sauna shut down. But I at least understand that, since its pretty small. But I loooove saunas and was too excited to even see the sign, and accidentally walked in to a cold room ☹️. oops. One last unique luxury I was actually considering experimenting with but couldnt, is the indoor basketball court. Another hard to come by commodity in town, mostly existing within rich apartment complexes from what I know of. Anyway, again, the ~15 foot wide hallway with functioning equipment is kosher, yet the much less confined space right on the other side of the glass door is apparently too dangerous.... 🤔 Idunno, Im outta characters. The end.
Amazing workout and great instructor! Really cool interior, highly recommend!!
First of all Im spurred to write this review because Covid safety in Fall 2020 has been abysmal. For a while it was okay, but lately more people have been working out without masks then with masks. I dont understand how the gym could claim its taking this seriously when the staff just sits on the 1st floor while literally all of the equipment is on higher floors. In severally months Ive never seen a single staff member do so much as take a pass through the main lifting floor during peak hours. Sure people wear a mask when coming through the door, but theres no enforcement once theyve left the view of the front desk. The gym itself is..... okay. The location is the best part. Right on the riverwalk and surrounded by amenities. The gym is 5 stories tall but also very narrow. Sometimes Im amazed they fit so little equipment in this big place. There still only 2 squat racks and given how busy this place gets youre no more likely here to get on your machine during peak hours than at a smaller gym like, for example, the Anytime Fitness on Water St. Since it is so busy here the equipment is in a little worse shape too. Also its not 24/7.I wouldnt recommend during the pandemic. Outside of that.... maybe. Not normally but theres not really better options downtown.
I got the 7 day trial to see if this would be a good fit and was disappointed. The parking situation is pretty bad since you have to park in a structure around the block, but that wasnt the make or break for me. In the middle of Covid I was surprised to see many many people without masks. Not even over in a corner away from everyone, but in the middle of the cardio floor running on treadmills or right next to you on machines. I had to ask multiple people that hopped on benches within a few feet of me to please put their mask on. That should be the job of staff and with gyms being such a high-risk area anyway Im not sure how this gym is even allowed to operate with such blatant disregard for basic prevention methods. If it were a different time I would give 3.5-4 stars because the gym itself isnt terrible. Nothing special but everything you need. But right now I was appalled with the lack of safety precaution I saw and I wont be going back.
This gym is good quality and the staff is very professional.
Thank you Golds Gym for charging a membership fee when your gym is closed. Hope you are using the money to clean your filthy broken machines. Just read the reviews, you will see a recurring theme here. Very dirty. I have been a member for 4 years and have mentioned this in several surveys and still no change. They just dont care. And now, charging a membership fee when I cant access the gym. Speaks volumes about management.
PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY. Do not I repeat do not engage in a “monthly/annual” agreement with Golds Gym. They find ways to charge you and will continue charging your account after you have given them a written notification to stop payments and cancel an account especially when you have valid reasons such as moving out of the country. I received confirmation from the manager that my membership was cancelled after sending him a written notification to cancel my “monthly” no-contract membership. Next thing I know a few months later my account is being charged for months of “no-payment” on the account with late fees. After a month of disputing these charges with a very very very unprofessional 3rd party, I contacted the manager directly whom I sent my written notice too and he agreed with the dispute and he made a reimbursement to my account for mostly all of the fees charged. The manager also confirmed in writing to me that I should not have anything else to worry about my “non-existing membership” at Golds Gym. Who would have thought that 5 months later I would be receiving debt collecting phone calls trying to collect a debt for a agreement that “I signed” 90 days ago at Golds Gym. ??? I have not step foot in a Golds Gym let alone I cancelled my “no-contract monthly” membership back in May 2019?!?!? My mind is blown. Very unprofessional workers who do not know how to enter information into their system correctly and leaving a bad reputation in which previous customers have to pay for their wrong doings. I would understand a phone call stating there was a misunderstanding but to actually have a customer deal with the stress of having to clear a debt and reimbursement for what was done wrong in the employee side of the company. And to deal with unnecessary phone calls that harass you for a “debt” is not acceptable. Especially going out of your way and spend a lot of time to dispute it, is ridiculous. WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE! Would not recommend Golds Gym to anyone. I would say request guest passes but DO NOT ever give them your banking information.
I was a member of Golds Gym for over 2 years. The staff are really nice but the cancelation and account freeze policy is poorly communicated. To freeze my account I had to email a 3rd party so I assumed when I wanted to cancel my membership, it would be the same.I called and was told due to Covid the process was different and I could cancel over the phone. I was also told we would get a reimbursement for 2 months (from Covid WHEN THEY CHARGED ALL MEMBERS THE MONTHLY FEE AND 6 MONTH CLEANING FEE? WHICH NEVER HAPPENED). After I froze my account I called to cancel a month prior to my auto pay. I called a week later to check and ensure I would not get charged. The receptionist said it was submitted for cancelation? and to give it a few weeks to process (behind from Covid). A month later I was charged.....I called back to explain the situation and asked why I got charged. They basically told me the information I received was false and they couldnt do anything? Pretty frustrating since I questioned it the first time and called back a second time. They asked if I can prove it and I said yes, I can get my phone records and the response was That wont prove it. We need an email. Well if I was told correctly the two times I asked, I would have an email of proof. Unless you think youll work out there for the rest of your life its not worth this headache or writing a novel for a review.
Ive been going to this gym for about 4 years, and I have noticed some improvements, but there is still room for more. It seems like they may have hired an outside cleaning company to come in and clean so the facilities are feeling cleaner but still not as clean as my previous gym Planet Fitness. PF had employees constantly cleaning the machines, locker rooms, tanning beds, etc and you could tell. Some of the machines could also use an upgrade as they are getting old and dont work correctly. It would be nice if they could at least upgrade the phone chargers on the machines and get a few more stair masters as the stair masters are always taken.
This gym has the worst customer service Ive ever seen. They are also very shady when it comes to canceling your membership. I tried to cancel my membership in May and still got charged for June and July. Their finance company Taft service is awful, the staff at Gold’s gym told me to send an email to the finance company notifying my cancellation. I’ve sent them an email but still got no answer. So then I called Golds Gym and they told me they would have a manager call me back and I never heard back from them. Finally, someone gets back to me after I had to call back days later and notified me that I am under a contract that I was unaware of when I signed up. They told me it would be a $50 cancellation fee and would not get June and July money back and that I have to call their financial company to cancel. I called their financial company and they told me I am unable to cancel my membership because I am still under contract and am only able to cancel if I moved, for medical or military reasons. Everyone who works at Golds Gym seems to be clueless about what the actual procedure is for cancellations. Canceling your membership at a gym should not be this difficult. Definitely the worst gym experience Ive had and will never go back. Please dont fall into their shady trap like me.
Don’t waste your time or money here
DO NOT sign up with Golds Gym unless you want to be locked into a contract. The rep I signed up with told me it was easy to cancel during the contract period. They work with a third party company that handles cancellations and they are incredibly hard to get a hold of.
Tried signing up online and stopping in to see the facility but was denied access because of midday cleaning (2-3pm). Didn’t feel very helpful or welcoming to me at all”” Two thumbs down 👎🏽 👎🏽
I used to be a member and I love the gym. I would rejoin but the parking situation is terrible. If only Golds had its own parking lot. I would rejoin for life. I am at Planet Fitness on Capitol now but its a pale imitation of Golds. Horrible gym but it has a huge parking lot.
The club is absolutely beautiful. I cant imagine what it took $ to convert this building into a gym. They have everything you could imagine for fitness. The staff is super friendly and the Manager Mark has always remembers me and asks about my goals when he sees me in the club. I pay 29.99 per month and consider that cheep the huge space. The parking for being a downtown location is fine. I lived in Chicago for years and understand how difficult it can be. I had to walk 5 blocks from my parking spot in Chicago to get to the gym so this is nothing. Keep up the good work Golds Gym Milwaukee.
Been going to this gym for about 2 years now and I really enjoy the equipment. It really reminds me of the klotsche with the atmosphere and they have great equipment which is well maintained. Front desk people are always friendly and helpful, and maintenance (team? I only ever see one person) is always doing their best to improve the facility which is awesome to see. The only problem I have is that theyre not really transparent about membership deals. I have a month to month membership and was looking to switch to a year to year contract, but because they dont really share what the deals will be for yearly contracts, and since it takes 30 days to fully cancel, its hard to switch from monthly to yearly contract. Otherwise this place is pretty great in my opinion.
Overall a solid enough place to workout. They have all the equipment you would need to get a good workout in regardless of your goals or workout experience. The membership is pretty fairly priced for what is available to you, but that said, I would say that given what you pay, the place should be a lot cleaner. The locker rooms are gross and smell like raw sewage, and the soap on the third sink in locker room has been empty for 18 months. I know this because I check every time I go in. I want to believe it will be full this time, but no, they just rip my heart out. I mean really, you cant fill up a soap dispenser once in a year and a half? The equipment is varied which is good, but if something breaks, it takes an eon to fix, and when the gym is crowded, it can be difficult to get a rack or bench. Not sure why, but most gyms have this problem--way too much cardio equipment and not nearly enough free weights. Anyway, Golds is solid enough for me--the staff is pretty friendly (much more than they used to be, thank God), though they are not super informed of certain policies or membership perks. Overall, havent had a ton of issues--you just have to know what youll be getting with your membership (and what you wont).
State of the art facility, with 5 floors of workout equipments. Indoor swimming pool and saunas. Workout sessions and helpful instructors. Membership is affordable and it comes with free parking in downtown. Cardio movie theater is one the unique features. I Recommend giving it a try. 7 day free trial before you join, also try out spinning classes, yoga and body pump. One of the best facilities in downtown. This location also has a basketball court.
I have many issues with this place. After transferring this hellish membership, to another person, Golds gym keeps charging me monthly statements. I call and have them take off my card, they say they will... and then keep charging me every month even though my membership has been transferred. Also, read the fine print in your contract before signing up. They will not hesitate to straight up lie to you to get you to sign, saying you can cancel anytime you want, you just have to pay a fee. and then when you try to cancel they basically just say sorry, should have read the fine print. The parking here sucks. The sauna is always out of order. the pool only has 3 lanes and is always used. Hot tub is barely warm. Always crowded.
I’ve tried pretty much every gym in the city over the years and this is the one I currently go too.Definitely the best bang for your buck. Pros- equipment is plentiful and 99% of the time clean and working, extra amenities are great and a generally friendly atmosphere.Cons- cleaning in the locker rooms and showers is almost nonexistent they smell terrible, I really think there’s something wrong with the drains in the showers. Please get some air fresheners. Parking during the day weekdays blows but that’s not really the gyms fault, it’s a downtown gym.
I printed out the trial one day pass with all my info. The kid at the desk had no idea what that was. He made me sign in as a guest and made me pay. The gym itself is good. Though I had expected more hardcore equipment.I chose not to enroll.
They should add another leg press machine for people that wanna take pictures, otherwise...good.
After three years, my regret is that I didnt leave Golds sooner. The gym is utterly filthy. Trash would sit on the floor 2-3 days at a time. Bathrooms frequently went uncleaned on weekends and showers were so thick with mildew Im not convinced they were ever cleaned.Equipment selection was good, but maintenance was sorely lacking. Machines broke down and were left to rot. Some equipment was in such poor condition it was dangerous. Reporting problems didnt seem to do anything. The final straw was having my locker broken into and my wallet stolen. I filed a report and was told management would call. They never did. I wasnt expecting anyone to be caught, but they couldnt even bother to offer a simple, Im sorry this happened to you. Thats how much they care.
Very unsupportive staff, who are not trained properly and tell you misleading information. I was told that I will not be charged anything if I cancel my membership before a certain date (I was relocating), but I ended up being charged nonetheless. Be sure to double check everything they tell you, because it is likely to be wrong. Also for 40 bucks a month, they really should have complimentary towels available for use.
Worst customer service I have ever seen. The facilities are great but the staff is terrible with no exaggeration. When I first signed up I was getting charged the wrong price and I was told that they would be getting back to me within a couple days. I never heard back so I came in but there were no sales people to talk to so I asked to talk to the manager and I was told she wasn’t there. I told the employee I saw the manager sitting at her desk across the room and he just replied “well she doesn’t really like talking to people” he went over to her and asked if she would come speak to me and she refused and said to come back when sales people were here.Another time I came to the gym and was planning on using the showers after my workout since I was between moving homes and could not use my shower at my current house. I asked the front desk if I could get a towel. They told me I needed a dollar for collateral. I told them I didn’t have any cash but would gladly pay for the towel with my card considering my situation or even leaving my card at the desk. They refused and said corporate says no. I cannot believe such a highly regarded gym would have no customer service in a situation like that.I also have heard stories from friends that also workout at golds gym that they have been screamed at by employees to leave the gym when it was 15 minutes to close, and I also have personally been told I cannot continue to workout even 20 minutes before close. Some of the front desk employees are friendly but most just sit on their phones and ignore the gym members most of the time.Seriously considering switching gyms because I receive no help or feedback from the employees or managers.
I have been trying to contact them for weeks, got no respond. They are still charging me even when I am outside the US!
Good luck if you are cancelling membership.I’m disappointed by the poor ethics and bad practice at the company. I’ve been charged 19.99 twice even though I cancelled about 6 weeks back. Their finance company Taft service is awful, the staff at Gold’s gym told me to send an email to the finance company notifying my cancellation. I’ve sent them email twice but still got no answer. The staff at the gym have no idea about finances and are never helpful. Unprofessional and disappointing.
I was completely blindsided by a two year contract, when I was told I was signing up for one year. I immediately began the impossible mission of cancelling with this company! They purposefully make it extremely hard to find cancellation information and the employees are all zero help with terrible attitudes. The gym itself is completely over rated with rude staff, half court basketball court, broken equipment, and obnoxious sales team. After feeling thoroughly ripped off by my experience and the extra year on my contract I took my card off file. They started charging me a fee for my charges not “going through” after taking the card off file (having a card on file is not mandatory) and they continued to charge it. Absolutely distasteful. You can find much better experiences else where.
Overall a good gym with affordable membership rates. The classes arent as good compared to some other gyms IMO (for the classes Ive done, theyre pre-packaged modules that repeat for a few weeks - there could be more variety, but they are pretty good workouts). Plenty of room and equipment, lap pool and basketball half court all in a office tower, and personally I like that the class studios are open for use when there arent classes, so you can do whatever workout fits your style.
It’s dirty and the people who work there are pretty rude. Cancelling the membership is almost impossible and takes forever.
Golds is one of the only gyms in downtown Milwaukee with a lap pool. Its only 20 meters but its way better than the pool at the Milwaukee Athletic Club. The staff here is attentive and helpful. The personal trainers are knowledgeable. Its a huge facility.
Recently joined. Tyler was prompt with our appointment, and very friendly. We have both had shoulder injuries and he gave me some great feedback on recovery. He took great care of me, and I have gotten great workouts in since then. Its a beautiful and functional gym with convenient locations to where I live and work. P.S. A correction on one review that I read. They dont charge for towels. Rather, they take a $1 refundable deposit because a bunch of people were stealing towels.
I was a member at Golds for 3 years and there are many pros and cons, but mainly cons...PROs:-Great selection of equipment and cardio space! They are well placed among all 5 floors. My favorite was the cardio cinema because I work out early in the morning before work and its nice to run in the dark.-The locker room has a nice layout and plenty of space and more private areas so you arent all exposed.-Good selection of protein bars, smoothies, and apparel.-Good selection of fitness classes at good time slots.CONs:-There were quite a few times where I showed up and no one arrived to work and the front desk was gated off. They open at 4:30 AM on weekdays and I always arrived between 4:45-5 AM and still no one present. So I couldnt get a towel but luckily the whole gym isnt gated off so I could still access the stairwell to the locker room and gym, but you would hope that someone is working for security reasons because anyone can walk in without swiping their card.-The parking situation is very frustrating. There are two options of parking garages depending on the day/time, so you had to keep track of which one to park at. I wish the only option was to use just the garage on Water St considering the one on Mason (which I used 95% of the time) is extremely sketchy and very difficult to maneuver through. If you have a long car or a large SUV, youre better off finding street parking a couple of blocks away.-Canceling your membership is beyond painful. You have to email Taft Services (a 3rd party) just to be left in the dark with no responses. After numerous attempts to follow up with Taft, I called Golds to understand the status of my cancellation and they said it takes 30 days to process, which they failed to tell me from the start. So I went to the gym one last time for a workout and approached the front desk asking about my cancellation status to which they said they cant access that info, meanwhile a manager at one of the back desks overheard my frustration and called me over for my info to look up in the system. She was able to give me the date that my membership will be terminated, but she did not seem pleased to help me with my troubles. So I ended up getting stuck with an extra month of payments. I believe this process applies to all Golds through corporate, but you would think that corporate would use a 3rd party that comes with excellent customer service where they respond to your email with a date of the last day of your membership just so you feel better knowing that they received the request and that it is pending/processing...-The gym is not clean or well kept whatsoever. The disinfecting wipes were empty most of the time (which you would think if I come in right when the gym opens in the morning, that some one would check and refill all those stations either when they close or right when they open). The soap dispensers were empty in the locker room for weeks! Toilet paper all over the locker room bathroom stalls that would be there for days. There are dust bunnies and dirty old equipment hidden in some corners.NEUTRAL:-The wifi used to be terrible to the point you couldnt even connect, and there is barely to no cell service, so if you stream your music it kinda ruined the vibe. But they eventually upgraded the wifi and it works well now! Although, they have a 2 hour time limit on it. So if you plan on doing a long workout, or utilizing most amenities that will take up lots of time (tanning, showering, back-to-back classes, etc.), or even just in the area and not at the gym but you are still connected, just ensure you disconnect from the wifi.OVERALL, I stuck with this gym because I liked the location while I was living in downtown and the overall layout of the space worked very well with my routine. I achieved a lot of goals at this gym and I appreciate the ability to utilize this facility. But now that I moved to Tosa, Im glad I left and joined a WAC and now wish I tried the WAC in downtown so I could have made the switch.
Always great
This is is fastes quality.
Whats the point of buying a day pass if you cant use everything the place offers? I dont reccomend this gym at all.
They gym offers a variety of classes which is great. However, the staff there is not always friendly or helpful.Especially if you work out towards the closing hours, make sure you get out ON TIME. The staff do NOT check the upper floor where the swimming pool is before they lock out all the doors. They do their job according to the clock. so you are responsible for your own schedule.also, I had to cancel the membership due to moving. It is a very painful and not easy. And it is a 30 day process. Do it ahead of time otherwise, you are very likely to get charge the extra $$.
Nice downtown vibe for a gym. It actually feels like a hotel with its elevators serving every floor and the cardio cinema. I joined for the basketball court, and have since befriended many of the other players. The only thing s that could be improved are the hours and the size of the locker rooms. I usually just go wearing my workout clothes to avoid it.
Best gym in Milwaukee! Ive looked at all gyms in downtown Milwaukee and you cant beat Golds. Great equipment, pool, sauna. The only thing its missing in my opinion is a steam room.
I love coming to this gym.The employees at front desk are always very friendly and the gym is well kept.Love their lessons as I am progressing in my fitness objectives and I am seeing them being achieved here.
Staff goes above and beyond!
I know there is a stigma with golds gyms, and certain stereotypes still exist here (lots of bros, lots of socializing and overall rude etiquette), but honestly its a good gym for being in the middle of the city. 5 smallish floors of equipment, including free weights 2 power racks, 3 benches and a host of cable machines. Other floors have lots of cardio equipment and other amenities. Charge is fair in my opinion. My experience with the staff has always been straight forward, just gotta know what you want from your gym
I’ve been going to this gym for months and made this account just so I could leave a review. I’ll just dive in on the only issue I really have with golds. It’s very unclean. I would find the same dirt and dust bunnies on the locker room floor for nearly a week. I’m convinced their janitor only works once a week. Which is ridiculous considering how many front desk people just sit around on their phones. The hot tub is said to be cleaned once a week, but I always feel dirt on the bottom with my feet. Today while walking back into the locker room I noticed a massive black spider. Seriously the biggest one I’ve ever seen. Every room in this gym is dusty, dirty, and has visible spills. Which really sucks since it’s just a nice facility besides that.Ever since I’ve been coming here, the first sink in the locker room never has any soap. Ever! Insides of the lockers are never cleaned out. The scale is always dirty too.Edit: a month later and nothing has changed at this gym. Every single thing I pointed out is as dirty as it was last time. Wanna pay more attention to how this gym looks for its clients? It’s so obvious no one does a basic sweep and mop anywhere, especially the locker rooms.
Excellent facilities and the staff are very friendly. The only drawbacks are1) The weekend hours could be better-currently closes at 7 PM in the evening but would be nice if they could extend it to 8 PM or later.2) The basketball court sometimes smells awful and you can tell it hasnt been cleaned in days..3) some of the ellipticals are breaking down but as a whole the weight machines and dumbbells are very well maintained.I would highly recommend this place given that Im only paying $30 and that the upkeep and facilities are great. Parking is not bad at allUpdate 5/2018: Maybe my feedback was taken into consideration- the basketball courts have been very well maintained over the past 6 months. Overall still highly recommend Golds; great facility and equipment complemented by a great staff.
Class instructors are great...even at 6am. Lots of equipment and a pool. Used to be really cheep for what you got, but prices went up. Now Id say its average for Milwaukee. Month to month options available.
Very busy with up beat customers...big rush starts at 4:30 PM (Mon. through Fri.) Convenient and ample parking accross the street.Well managed and professionalism shows....This is a year round facility with mixed age groups and stable regular clientele....HAVE A GREAT WORKOUT ! dont forget to thumbs up if you like the review
For being downtown, this gym has a lot to offer. 5 floors, a 3-lane lap pool, weights, 2 classrooms with classes ranging from Kickboxing, body pump, yoga, abs. They also have a cycling/movie room and has a private Lady Golds room.
Worst gym in Milwaukee. Impossible to cancel your membership. I went into the gym to confirm my membership was cancelled after 9 separate emails to there “finance company” in which i received no response. There manager confirmed it had been cancelled and I thought all was well. Well i am still being charged 20 dollars every month. Now, i’m told I’m locked into a contract until September. I was lied to when i signed up and apparently the first 3 months did not count toward my 1 year membership. Its a total scam. I am now being threatened with collections by Taft Services because I refuse to pay them. I couldn’t care less about the money it’s the principle. I have been a member to almost every gym in Milwaukee and here is a list of gyms that treat there members with more respect than Golds.WAC ( Wisconsin Athletic Club )Xperience Fitness ( I like Hales Corner location )Planet Fitness ( Wisconsin Ave location is awesome!)Anytime Fitness ( Water Street location )Snap Fitness ( Farwell Location )Email me anytime for a more in-depth account.PS - I am a runner and the sweat stains on the treadmills have been there for months. They DO NOT clean the equipment at this gym and are asking for there members to get a staph infection.
For sure my gym of choice now... Been through too many in The milwaukee area. Love the variety of equipment.
Cool gym but VERY poor management and they just don’t let you cancel if you’re deciding to leave. I got charged 2 extra months because they didn’t receive my cancellation request. Still waiting on them to cancel. Moved to Wisconsin Athletic Club, they are wayyyyyyy better.
All of the equipment here is very high quality. They have a wide selection of different workout equipment. The pool, sauna, and whirlpool are all very nice as well.
Loving it hear
I have been going to Xperience Fitness for the past 4 years and went here yesterday the first time in hopes of changing. NOPE First off, this gym is super trash, really disappointed. Parking sucks downtown so youre most likely walking far to get in. They have a parking structure across the street which is small and narrow and congested. Rarely a spot and stressful going in and out. Then you have to walk up 2 flights of stairs till you get to reception. After presenting my 7 day pass, I was told I cant play basketball which is something i looked forward in checking out. He said its because of insurance purposes. So youre telling me I can work out around heavy weights and equipment that potentially could seriously injure someone or kill them, and thats safe? Yet, I cant shoot a ball around?! Trash.Especially driving 20 minutes to get there, there was no indication of any exemptions in the email. Their court is a half court which is boring. They have 5 levels of lots of equipment thats great but theres too much going on, they try to accommodate way too many at once. Pool area smelled gross and floor was dirty. Locker rooms smelled and were dirty. Equipment they sell there are way overpriced, you can buy their brand at Wal mart for cheaper. Disappointed and will not return to use the rest of my pass. Will consider Planet Fitness as they seem to have lots of higher more consistent ratings. Id even pay more to go to the WAC. Sorry to leave you guys a bad review but you guys are falling behind and are too expensive for what similar gyms offer.
The facility was nice but the customer service is strongly lacking. I followed directions for cancelling my membership and still got charged extra for my membership cancellation. All they had to do was communicate a few things to me, but instead they chose to cover up that they were going to charge me further. Its really a pity...
Great staff .very helpful for people new to working. Amazing swimming pool. I recommend the gym to anyone looking for an gym in the diwntown area
I signed up for a two year membership, when my membership was going to end in August I came into the gym in June to see if there was anything needed from me to end my membership since I had already joined a different gym. I was told no there is nothing I need to do, I guess I should have some how documented this because now I found out that once your contract ends you are automatically signed up for a month to month membership, I am sure that was in my paperwork I signed originally so my mistake. Since I already tried to find out what I needed to do i thought it would be fair for Golds to waive the charge since an employee gave me incorrect information, Golds does not agree with this. I called the billing company who told me only the gym could waive it, I went to the gym and was told I needed to send an email to cancel and no only the billing company could waive it. Called the billing company again who told me what I was told before that the gym could only do that. I called the gym again and was told they would look into it and call me back. Finally I recieved an email back from the manager, not a phone call like I was told to expect, simply saying I need to pay. So be aware if Golds employees make a mistake its actually your fault, I get I am canceling the membership so they do not have much of an incentive to do the right thing. I guess two years of payments and additional fees doesnt cut it.
Great facility, however during most of the day they only offer valet parking for their gym (except 4 p.m.-8 p.m.) I am an out of state worker and bring my own vehicle with me sometimes. Only I drive my car not even my wife. I have worked hard for my toys and dont want anyone elses fingers playing with them especially my supercharged camaro. Please find other means of parking for the people who dont want to have their car driven by a stranger. To comment on the staff...the two girls at the front desk were very helpful and pleasant. Other than the parking situation, my experience so far has been exceptional.
So why am I getting changed for a gym membership and tanning when this place is closed and has been for a while now?
Good luck if you try and cancelTheir “finance” company shapenet financial are awful to deal with. I have been charged several $19.50 admin fees even though a month ago I called, paid the entire amount to close off account (pregnant, sick and out the country) and now they have started the whole rigmarole again because apparently they didn’t take the last months pro rated 12$ amount on top. So now they’ve charged another $19.50 for that. Absolutely scamPoor poor ethics and bad practice
Well-maintained facility, great instructor and good people. Highly recommended!
I love Golds Gym. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and the membership comes with near-by free or cheap ($1 for 3 hours) parking). There are great facilities including a locker room, saline pool, whirlpool, a lot of cardio equipment (including a cardio cinema -a dark room where they play a movie and you can use an elliptical, treadmill, or bike). They have class space for group classes (including a spinning room) as well as a free weights area and more.In my opinion this is the best gym in the area. Better by FAR than the similar competitors.
Im the type of gym customer that lifts weights then does cardio 5 days a week. Im at the gym during lunch and mornings on the weekend. Gym gets a 5 for equipment. They have good equipment that is kept up and clean. The gym gets a 5 for cleanliness. The cleaning staff does a great job. The bathrooms are always clean and loaded with paper towel. The staff for the most part is friendly so a 5 there. Parking is off sight and cost a dollar plus another dollar for a tip per day. So that adds up over the month. Parking I give a 3 since I knew about it signing up. The crowd that works out at the gym gets a 5. Pretty much a diverse group of people that are courteous. I havent seen one D-Bag/Roid Rage person at the gym. Nor are there people that sit around looking at their phone on equipment getting in the way. People seem to care about their personal goals and go about their business in a positive way.I would like to also point out exceptional customer service which is usually nonexistent at gyms. Jeremy from ownership/management was very helpful fixing a billing issue that couldnt be handled at the gym. He was very friendly and responded within 24 hours with a solution. Also, Jonathon who works the front desk always has a positive attitude and is authentically friendly. A model for customer service most gyms lack.
The classes are nice, they have a nice variety and the instructors are friendly and knowledgeable. The cardio cinema has current movies, and the equipment is clean, and they have a nice area for women only.
My cousin took me as a guest to the Waukesha location and I loved it!! however I dont live in this area..It would be fantastic if they open a Golds Gym in Oak Creek or close to this area :)
I was considering looking into membership with this club, but after reading these reviews I think Ill pass...membership services sounds like a nightmare to deal with. Long term contracts in this industry are always a scam.
One of my best gym ever I really love this place
Visiting from out of town, front desk was very friendly, gym has everything, and it was easy and reasonably priced to sign up for a week, not the usually BS sales pitch.
Still charging when canceled over a month and a half ago and they are not open!!! Thanks Golds Gym for stealing my money when I need it mostNever again this Gym is dead to me
I love this gym. The friendly and knowledgeable staff, the great group classes, the equipment very good maintenance and the overall cleanliness, offer an inviting atmosphere that I cherish.
I give them one star only because of the nightmare I went through signing up and cancelling.Don’t get me wrong, great facilities, but I cant give them more than 1 for the membership services. When I started, I would describe the tactics as intimidation. I had a bunch of vitamins pushed on me. When I did not want to pay that much for supplements, I was asked things like why I didn’t take my routine seriously and told that they were a results oriented gym and that I would be not allowed to join if I didn’t buy the supplements and participate in their intro fitness test. When I cancelled, I spokento trnmanager after my contract ran up and was given 30 days to the end of membership. I didn’t see anymore bills...until November 2017. When I started getting nickel & dimed by Gold’s. I called and no one had answers, I was redirected among several gyms, told it couldn’t be cancelled, etc. finally, I closed the bank account. They just give vague answers. I was hopped around from 1 gym to another and then given a series of run arounds. I feel like this is just a sham. I finally closed the account and got a call today when the attempt to debit a closed account of course didn’t work. I was told I’d need to email some address that the associate couldn’t remember how to spell. Then I was told that if I didn’t send them the email for cancellation that I’d be billed with a penalty for each month. This is absolute garbage. I’m calling the police department to report theft. I didn’t agree to this.If you value your credit score, avoid this place.
Front desk lady was very very rude when I called to inquire about a membership. I will simply signing up with another gym instead of this one. They treated me like there are no other choices.
Great gym, but unfortunately I moved to South Milwaukee and there are no good gyms over this way. I wish they opened a golds gym over here.
Terrible. Experience, would definetly not recommend to anyone because theyre just trying to steal your money. Went in with son of my buddies and just because I was out of state resident I had to pay $15 for one day! while my friends got a free 7 day pass because they were residents which shows that they obviously dont care about your needs and totally bias an are just for the money your bringing into the company. Also they have this controversal act where if you buy there supplements you get a cheaper membership which also shows theyre just trying to move there products and make money off of you, the staff was also extremely clueless about the equipment and everything there was to offer. I had to correct them on things they shouldve known in the fitness industry witch is pretty poor. Overall not impressed with this piss poor gym and shouldnt be carrying the golds gym label. Definetly the worst one
I generally try to only write positive reviews, but Golds draconian cancellations procedures are so bad that I just cant do it. I actually took the time to stop in and cancel a 3 year old membership that I no longer use and, and instead of a few mouse clicks, I got shuffled off and told to send an email to Taft Services, whomever they are. I was literally standing in front of a manager (i.e. sales person) who was at her computer and got handed a card with no explanation. If this is policy, it sucks. Why on earth would I ever re-join?You would think after so many complaints they would do something. It must be some calculation about the $s since people join anyway. Do everyone a favor and dont encourage this behavior...dont join! The gym itself is ok. There arent enough free weights or equipment during peak hours. The staff is aloof and generally not very friendly... unless you hire one of their personal trainers, which I suppose is why the staff generally wont give you the time of day unless you are paying them. The whole atmosphere is generally very pretentious. Think roided up lawyers and bankers. So, unless you enjoy hanging out with otherwise fake people (some people do), youre better off going to your local 24-hour club or corner gym.
I like it, some rude and unsavory staff members as with anywhere else but everything else is coolEven here look at the replies from the staff, speaks volumes.
Great gym, poor WIFI. If you workout here, make sure you have a ipod or downloaded music on your phone. They have terrible wifi reception. They only have one dinky little router on every floor that is supposed to be able to service 30-40 people on peak hours of the day. They need to increase wifi bandwith by placing more than one router on a floor.
If you are looking to pay for socializing then this is the gym for you, but if you are just looking to workout and be healthy and in shape save yourself the money. I have lost 20lbs and counting by focusing on nutrition instead of spending hours with a personal trainer. I am trying to help the next gullible gym seeker dont waste your hard earned money at Golds by buying their TeamBuilding, Personal Training, and Team Challenge etc. Just eat well and workout, you dont need all their fluff. I went to Golds Gym excited to get back in shape and was falsely motivated by all the different amenities and programs pushed onto me by the staff. I wasnt forced to sign anything, but they really lay it on heavy to make their profit. I learned the hard way that all of the staff is trained to market their sales incentive, and all the fake support was nothing more than a sales strategy. I accept responsibility for my naive thinking that they were actually interested in helping me reach my goals, but now I realize that I can find a much better workout plan for a faction of the cost and a lot less stress. I went to Golds because I wanted a gym that was local, that I could just go workout, and de-stress. Instead Golds offers non-existent WIFI, a friendly staff with a sales pitch to solve all my problems. I stopped going because it felt like I was always dodging someone trying to sell me something when all I wanted to do was workout in peace. I blame the Golds Gym profit model not the staff.
One of my favorite gyms in the city. Parking sucks, membership is cheaper than the WAC
This used to be my go to gym. However lately it’s gone down hill. Issues include overall cleanliness, run down machines, and New Management not paying attention to anything on feed back from clients. This needs to change.
Best gym I’ve ever joined. So sad I had to move away because this place had everything.
Great gym, helpful staff and AMAZING GROUP FITNESS INSTRUCTORS!!
I have been a member for a couple of years. The gym is functional, location is convenient, and the personal training staff is superb.
When I originally joined Golds Gym two yearss ago, it was fine for running on the treadmill after work. Since then, it quickly went downhill in terms of cleanliness and available machines. They additionally took away the free towel service which was why I didnt mind paying the premium. My friends had joined a cheaper gym so I decided to switch once my contract was up. After cancelling my membership of $45 per month, they then scammed me out of an additional $22 as they said I had to continue paying up to 30 days past my cancellation date. Why would I want to continue to go to a gym where I had cancelled my membership? The fact that they continued to try to get a measly $20 out of me after the fact is just insulting whereas I may have gone back and renewed my membership at some point. Long story short, dont bother going here when there are plenty of great gyms in Milwaukee that wont stick you with a lot of fine print in their contracts.
At 1st I tried signing up it took forever because no ones available before work so I had to wait until the weekend. Then the ladies at the front desk gave me a very hard time customer service sucks!!
The sales person Tyler was very rude and unhelpful in anyway didnt even step in the building. I joined the 7 day free pass then 10 mins later got a phone call from him and his sales tactic was basically to try to uninvite me to the gym. Thanks for that, I dont have to waste my time then.
I am a newer client at GOLDs and have had memberships with other gyms in the past. The 5 levels of differnent fitness gives you many options to avoid getting bored or doing the same thing constantly. I feel the the facilities are relativly clean for a public environment and that the staff is very friendly and welcoming. The one complaint I do have is that they havent purchased the software to be a part of a fitness reimbursement program set up through my healthcare provider. I have heard others complain about this also, as a $20 reimbursement would be wonderful on a monthly basis. This may detier future, potentail clients to choose another location with this bonus. But all in all, great gym with lots of variety.
Rons Body pump is no Joke.. Thanks Ron I was sore all the way back to Seattle lol
I love this place its hands down the best in the city!
Love my gym‼️‼️
Avoid at all cost. Bad equipment, unsupportive stuff, and no parking available
There is no way to leave gym. The email they give you to contact simply ignores!!!!! This is fraud!!!!!!!!
