As my first experience in martial arts training, it was a great introduction to JKD and Muay Thai. Sifu Dwight Woods is a wonderful teacher and overall, the students are very friendly and welcoming. This is a great place to start if you are looking to get your feet wet with martial arts.

Its been 15 years since I was involved in martial arts, and this is my first real experience with JKD. I have nothing but good things to say about Sifu, the group, and the numerous lessons Ive already learned in the first few months. Is it easy, absolutely not, but nothing worth while is. Is the experience full of humility, friendship, respect, and growth of body and mind...absolutely. Everyone, including Sifu, are always willing to help you learn not only the history, but also the authentic vocabulary, as well as the philosophy of JKD and Bruce Lee. There really is a welcoming family atmosphere thats very rewarding on so many levels. As long as Im in Miami and Sifu Woods is teaching, Im there.

Sifu Woods is a true teacher and one of the best allies youll have on your path to learn JKD. Hes a professional and runs UMAA accordingly. Apart from being a well of knowledge in martial arts he has an uncanny ability to explain from different perspectives. Ive seen Sifu Woods make it his goal to get through to his students, whatever the lesson might be.Apart from being knowledgeable and having the skill to accompany it, Sifu Woods has done an amazing job of representing JKD in South Florida. If you want to practice this philosophy, youll be hard pressed to find a better teacher and friend.

I’ve never had any martial arts training and decided to give UMAA a shot. Best decision I could have made! Sifu Dwight Woods makes learning fun and really cares about his students. You get the feeling of being a family from day one. The training is also practical for real life self defense scenarios. I would definitely recommend UMAA to anyone, regardless of fitness level.

I started training for MMA a few years ago, I meet many trainers in different fighting academies over the years. I trained in many arts including Jiu Jistsu but I was recently introduced to JKD. Training with Sifu Dwight Woods was not only a new experience, its been quite refreshing, separate from many of the other ways other schools teach. I honestly see myself being here for many years. Totally recommend training here for your self-development.

My experiences with UMAA and the encyclopedic owner Sifu Dwight Woods, not only formulated me as a martial artist but as a young man. For years the Jeet Kune Do Rebel has blazed a trail in the Miami-based martial arts, teaching Jeet Kune Do concepts but also Muay Thai (the King of the Ring in striking arts), Silat, Submission Wrestling, and most notably the Filipino fighting art of Kali/Escrima of which his teacher -the legendary student of Bruce Lee, Dan Inosanto- is the world renowned exemplar. You will not find a stronger lineage to Bruce Lee in Miami besides Sifu Dwight Woods, as his knowledge has influenced any who here claim authority in Jeet Kune Do. Any MMA gym can teach basic wrestling and boxing, but Sifu Dwight has always taken time to explain the subtleties and philosophy that most MMA heads miss regarding martial arts techniques in theory and practice. If you want a real martial arts, from a true martial artist with decades of experience, this is the place and he is the man. As a person who has put on the gloves plenty of times, no other person has conveyed the skills Sifu Dwight so readily offers.

I have had a great experience training with Sifu Dwight Woods. It is a privilege to receive direct instruction from someone with several decades of experience and wide knowledge of Jeet Kune Do and Martial Arts in general. In addition, Sifu Woods is very active at creating opportunities for the people of Miami to participate in seminars with renowned masters of different styles. I recommend everyone to join Sifu Wood’s school regardless of age or experience.
