LOVE the staff. They were all very nice, helpful, informative, and showed great customer service, and even better… shows love and affection for all the fur babies. Today was a breeze doing paper work. Tomorrow I pick up sweet Bruno, and I can hardly wait. Thank you to everyone for the amazing help. Adopt, it’s the best feeling ever! ❤️
I brought a cat that had been injured to this place and was greeted with open arms. The staff was so welcoming. The place was so clean and smelled very nice. I just loved the caring everyone showed. Keep up the great work.
Although the dog I wanted to adopt was already adopted. I was able to look at another one. Staff very nice. Very helpful.
We had a scheduled appointment for a meet and greet with a specific pet whose ID # was on the appointment schedule. I tried to call to verify he was still available. I was on hold for over 30 minutes and never did speak to anyone because we had to leave with our dog for the appointment. When we arrived we were told the dog had been adopted. No one even tried to let us know before loading up and going out there. This is the second time this has happened, and be assured, it is the last for us. Very happy the dog was adopted, but we will be adopting our next pet from somewhere else.
No complaints. They do a service for the community. The staff are caring to the animals they have there. Very helpful in helping with a problem with my dog. Referring me to a wonderful resource.
Very nice! Nice people there.I was looking for My little dog,but its was not there.😭
Amazing place we got our puppy last Wednesday. Shes was in perfect health. Our vet checked her out this morning and told us the same thing only thing they got wrong was her bred shes actually a staffordshire terrier not an American pit bull which is actually what we wanted
Great people and they are easy to talk to come and check them out and get a forever pet
Excellent customer service experience was was very clean inside and everyone maintained social distance.
Neighbors found an abused/neglected dog. I wanted to take him to the vet, but Chandler at Animal Control said they needed to catalog the evidence before finding him a new home and if I had him treated first there would be no chance. So I handed over this little old dog who had green teeth, badly matted fur, gummed up ears and toenails so neglected they curled round and twisted the little bones in his foot. Poor thing was in agony when he walked. I handed him over knowing he would be taken care of. Such nice people.But.. I like to follow up. They make money from these dogs after all.Soon he was listed on the website as up for adoption in a few days. Five people in my neighborhood on Nextdoor wanted to adopt him. Today he wasn’t lIsted so I phoned up to check in on him. Spoke to Chandler again and his boss, Shawna Abbot, who told me the little dog ‘hadn’t seen a vet because it was the weekend’, his nails hadn’t even been cut and they’d handed him straight back to his abuser ‘because a dog is property’.They lied to get the dog. Actively PREVENTED him from getting treated. Sent him back to live out the rest of his short life in agony. Here is a photo of his nails. They sent him back to walk on these.Think Chandler would want to walk on these?
Had an appointment, after checking our temperature, got us in right away. My fiance and I were looking to adopt a puppy, this facility had quite a few we considered taking home, unfortunately most of the dogs and puppies were being treated for heartworms at this time. We also wanted to a mate for our 2 yr old female Mastiff, but we found out that County Laws and Regulations will not allow adoption without performing a surgery to have them spayed and nutured.
Great customer service! The staff was friendly and didnt mind answering my questions. The shelter was clean and organized. My heart broke a little knowing people arent big lovers of pit bulls. I personally think theyre the most loveable and loyal dog breed that has a bad reputation, but little breed dogs bite us too. Anyone looking to adopt a pit should make an appointment with Cobb Animal Shelter!
You need an appointment to go in to view the animals. Not a terrible thing on its own yet they fail to mention that anywhere on their website. Had to drive all the way there just to be told to go home. They also seemed a bit pretentious when I inquired of their policys. 1/10
Hi, I adopted a girl last week (a dog). I had a very good experience. Everyone was super nice and helpful. Im surprised about some bad reviews. Because of the coronavirus, theyve changed how they operate. You have to make an appointment (Tu-Sun 10:30-4:30). Yes, they are booked few weeks ahead, but if you make an appointment and then call again later, you can usually get the cancellation. I called the next day, after making an appointment, and got the cancellation right away. Also, look at their website to get the idea what pets are available. I picked the dog before I went there and that was a dog I ended up adopting. So I was there in and out quickly. My adopted girl is great. When I picked her up, she was clean and well taken care of. She spent 3 weeks there and was fond of the people at the shelter. I also felt they tried to tell me everything I needed to know about her to make a transition for her go smoothly.I really think that the shelter is doing the best they can with the government money they get to operate. People there have to deal with a lot of bad stuff too. When I was there, a heartless woman was dropping off her 9 year old dog. She brought her little daughter with her too, who cried after the dog. It was terrible. So take all of this into the consideration before you give an opinion and go and adopt a dog or a cat from there. These animals deserve a good home.
The people there were very helpful.
I visited here today, looking for my missing cat. They greeted me at locked entrance and checked my temperature. I had a mask on of course. A staff member took me to the cat rooms, he was really pleasant and helpful. Facility and kennels for the cats looked cleaned and and kitties well taken cared of. No luck finding my kitty.
NO LONGER TAKING FUTURE APPOINTMENTS!!!!! TIL FURTHER NOTICE!!!! NO WALK-INS EITHER!!! I was informed this 10/16 after waiting on the phone for 1 hour to speak with a disingenuous representative. THE WORST!! I am unable to adopt a kitten and have been trying for three months. Long phone wait time, appointment available a month or two out from when u call. Also, online is lacking, ur not able to make appointments online. If you use pet finder, search for other shelters, it may not be as difficult. I NEVER THOUGHT ADOPTING A KITTEN WOULD BE SO MUCH OF A HASSLE!!!!!!
It was very pleasant. The workers are really awesome!!! And eager to assist in any way that they can
Very caring and they try to help animals. They have lots of cats and dogs that need good homes. Right now cats are only $20.
The staff continues to assist the community with hard work and compassion for animals to reunite pets
Desk staff are nice and easy to talk to. Other staff I would say are mildly evolved.I saw a specific dog twice the day he came in and the day after. When i called they day before adoption date, as instructed to, they said he was all ready. The next day I go and they tell me he has been picked up 4 days ago. What a body blow.
Easy process. Call and make an appointment for adoptions. 🥰
Animal Control was sent to catch a dog running around in our neighborhood. The dog had a leash around his neck ! The animal workers werent trying to catch the dog ? They chase the dog for almost 20 minutes ! It took a neighbor to catch the dog for them . The workers dont seem to take their job seriously, there were 2 guys who came out ? Their arrival time was ok, but they need more training on capturing animals.
Very cooperative team of people.
I called animal control bc I had 2 dogs that didnt belong to me and was unable to care for them when animal control gets here he writes me a ticket thanks cobb county animal controlI for teaching me not to do the right thing I guess
We found a dog that we were interested in and we decided to call the minute they opened and we were waiting on hold for 7 hours and nobody picked up.
My Yorkshire Terrier, which I paid $1100 for, was stolen on a holiday (Thanksgiving) and luckily found at the start of January by Cobb County Animal Control. If you invest money in an animal, please make sure you obtain paperwork with a photograph of the animal and take plenty pictures of the animal so you can PROVE that is your animal. Otherwise, they will put people who want it on a waiting list and then give it away to them (a Sue, Tom, or Harry who possibly have ill intentions for your animal- bred it out to make money). The waiting list may be full, and you will not HAVE A CHANCE to get YOUR dog back. I was unable to provide a photo copy of my dog and was reliant on the person I bought it from to provide me with baby pictures for not only my LOST DOG flier I created, but as documenting proof this dog was mine. This was not enough for the Cobb County Animal Shelter. They assumed I was falsifying information because the baby picture did not match and showed white on the chin, whereas the Yorkie they had behind bars did not. I had no choice but to give up. Why did I not have pictures? I received a new phone for Christmas, and after only having the dog about 2 weeks, all my pictures were on my old phone, and since I thought my baby, Samahura (my Yorkie whose name I was told meant Lovely in Sanskrit) was stolen or dead (they are so small and could easily have been eaten by a larger animal) I decided to transfer my phone to another family member that needed it, and of course, they did not keep any of my files. The seller did not do a good job of paperwork and was unable to give me the correct picture (did not speak good English, so just getting the Bill of Sale was a task). Also, immediately file a missing report through THEIR website, even if it looks hopeless. Because you do not want to end up like me. Worried about how the new owner, who probably didnt pay more than $50 for the animal, will treat your baby. Maybe if I wouldnt have dressed in my sweats and more like a former professional basketball players wife (he bought me the dog), they wouldnt have judged me and assumed Sam was not my dog. They almost had me believing she wasnt my dog because of their animal specialist!
Excellent animal shelter, clean, animals seem in good health & happy as they could be, since they are locked up. We adopted 1 kitten, another one couple months old. Happy with staff, would definitely recommend.
Brooke was awesome!!! I wish I could give her 10 stars. Very Professional very understanding and took the time to explain the process with my son as well. GREAT JOB!!!!
Super sweet staff just got my malti poo from here the fee is very cheap only $60 adoption is super fast it takes around 15-20 mins
I’ve adopted two Animals with a two week period. I was told both dogs received the rabies shot prior to adoption. Which was a lie. I was told the male dog I adopted was neutered. That was a lie also. Truthfully, there system is unorganized and I did bring this up to the Director Shana. For this to be a county facility that houses mainly stray animals how is neutered and rabies status overlooked! Her response is it was a oversight.WARNING: When your interested in an animal that isn’t ready for adoption the front desk clerk provides you with a Adoption Listing Receipt which only has the Animals ID, what number you are on the adoption list, the date of the adoption and the time the adoption starts. It does NOT DISCLOSE the type of animal you are adopting. You should be on more than one list for an animal to increase your chances of adoption. Since the shelter isn’t organized enough to include a description of the animal on said list you will have to write it manually on the paper so your not confused on which animal is which. The Director claims to modify this Receipt to include information about the animal other than just a animal ID.There is a female Manager heavy set with blond shoulder length hair to ratchet for me to remember her name who is an IDIOT. She is loud, rude and disrespectful. Her only job is to terrorize and lie and block you from trying to adopt your animal.Last Tuesday, I was number 1 on the adoption listing receipt to adopt a kitten. In my own error I handed her the wrong adoption listing receipt remember all the sheet has is a Animal ID so is easy to confuse which animal is which. When I figured out my mistake I tried to give her the correct adoption listing receipt and she didn’t take it. She lied and said I didn’t have it and allowed someone else to adopt the animal. Needless to say she was reported to the Director and The Director of Health and Public Safety. When I mentioned to the Director how loud and rude she was, the Director stated “ oh, yes she usually talks loud”. My response well she should not be permitted to communicate with the public since she was not groomed to effectively communicate. The Directors resolve was that she would be locating me another kitten to adopt and that she would do the adoption herself. Why not train and organize your staff to avoid these types of dysfunctional issues. The animals are helpless is not there fault the staff and Management need training. Proceed with caution and don’t trust a word from them. When you adopt take your animal to the vet immediately to check to see whether they are neutered. Know that you may be adopting an animal that doesn’t have the rabies vaccine.
We’ve adopted from the shelter 2 times. Both times were amazing! Great staff and clean shelter! I work in the vet field and always recommend them and will definitely adopt from them again. We’ve been to other shelters in the 60 mile vicinity and this one is one of few that is the nicest. Animals are well taken care of and the employees are sweet. Usually it is 1 dog to a run vs other shelters it is multiple or they are caged outside.
Called to get dogs off my property and they never came
Very compassionate and understanding staff. Very helpful.
We woke up one morning to see our cat had been killed by our dog. We had no choice but to turn him in. We walked in, full of tears. Some old bat came up to us and said, He looks horrible! He looked better off when he was here before. He was adopted a year and a half ago and had been there for a day due to an owner turn in. My mother, already in tears, said that she didnt have to say it like we abused the dog. Another staff member pulled the old coot to the side and told her that the dog had killed our cat. Then the lady said with an unapologetic tone, Sorry about your cat. Some people dont need to work with the public. We wont be giving another penny to this place. If you see an old woman hobbling around with blonde hair, avoid her at all costs. She is THAT old coot.
They were so nice. As bad as it was for my dogs to have gotten out and picked up. They guy that took care of us was so kind. They updated their shots. And let us know that the 2nd offense would be $100 per dog. Hopefully that wont happen again.
Drove all the way over there. Stood outside for 15 min waiting for someone to answer the door. Then they tell us we have to have an appointment. It said nothing about this on the website. Kids were devastated.
Clean, neat, well managed.
Very disorganized. You have to make an appointment, but you cant pay your adoption fee in advance, so if the animal you came for is gone or if one you are interested in is not available yet, you just have to make another appointment and show up on the off chance that it works out. Also, if appointments are required along with masks and they are taking temperatures at the door, why is staff walking around with their masks down on their chins? If you care, do it right, and if you dont care, then dont have an appointment system in the first place.
We adopted our cat from here 15 years ago. His name is Merle and we love him so much. He’s still very healthy. We also adopted our dog Brooklyn from here three years ago. She is the sweetest dog and we adore her so much. I’m so happy we walked into the Cobb animal shelter and brought these two babies into our lives. If you are looking for a loyal pet this is the place to go.
I shouldnt even be giving this place 1 star. They were 10 min from closing and they already had their doors locked. I had 2 kittens that I was trying to give to them. Well Ill never be coming here again if this Lazeness is still here
It was FANTASTIC.!! My bro and his family adopted a 😎 cool dog today.!! The staff was AWESOME.!!!👍👍👍👍
Great personnel and volunteers. Been there many times looking for a puppy lovey and the place is clean and the pups look good. In appropriate sized cages or kennels. I will keep coming here until I find the right match. 🙂
Blonde skinny officer woman is a complete and total a whole. I went to adopt. I didn’t see the sign attached to the ceiling 8 ft in the air that says do not open cages. I’m 5 ft 2 . I’m not going to walk in and look at the ceiling. Instead of saying “hey I apologize you can’t open the cages “ or “please don’t open the cages” she felt the need to speak as if she was mentally handy cap while entering the room and reading the sign as loud as possible. Yeah I’ll adopt somewhere else. Thanks. Btw I have actually mentally handy cap family members . This wasn’t cute, funny, or customer service friendly.
When you call it’s misleading, you drive 30-60 minutes out for an animal because they say they’re open to the public when they previously said they were closed to public and open by appointment only, two different statements right? Then you drive down there and it’s appointment only, you call and they say you should check the website and don’t acknowledge the fact that when you call it states that they’re open, keep in mind the message was specific at one point in time and clearly stated they’re closed to public.
Appointments to visit and adopt take too long and so by the time they are given, whatever dog you’re interested in has been adopted out. I’ll just go to another county to adopt.
These folks love their jobs and really want three lost animals to find their forever homes! Do you have a little love to give? I guarantee youll be paid back 100 fold!!
Called to inquire about my lost cat. The lady who answers the phone at the 1060 Al Bishop Rd location told me to come to their location to look at the cats they have. Once there, the doors are locked so I call. Same lady tells me I can only come in with an appointment and today (Sunday) is already booked up with 6 appointments within their 1 hour & 15 minute window to make an appointment (even though website says 2pm to 5pm is open to public). She tells me to look at the cats they have on the website. When Im on the website I notice they have a listed a cat they just brought in matching my cats description but with no pic. I call back & speak to this same lady who gives me more attitude and within 5 minutes this particular cat listing gets deleted off their website. I can be reached at waldopg3 at yahoo dot com subject Cobb Humane Society or by phone at six seven eight two five eight zero four three nine.
Ok
Generally unfriendly staff.
They posted an ad on Petfinder for a dog. We drove 30 minutes, walk in, and the woman asked if we had an appointment. I said no, the Petfinder ad didnt mention an appointment, and she said the next available appointment is in 1 week. Nice. I politely suggested they include this info in their ads and she shrugged. Couldnt care less.
Literally the WORST place I have ever been to. As I was surrendering my dog today, a worker (Sherry Kersey), said, “Why are you surrendering him?” and I answered her with, “Unfortunately we are moving 3 hours away into a rental home and they do not allow animals, as well as my 2 year old being scared of him.” (even though he is THE sweetest dog). And she responded to me with, “Oh you bring your dog in for Christmas to just get killed, what a Merry Christmas.” The whole staff apologized to me about her words but Sherry did not. As if I wasn’t feeling bad enough I had to surrender my dog that I absolutely love.. I will never return here. Ever. Sherry is a SICK individual.
Stopped by and had to call because nothing is posted online about appointments only, so when I call she tells me there 2 weeks out in scheduling. There were only 2 vehicles in the parking lot and 1 was mine. So thats what this review is based on, another place that doesnt care about your time and your money. Not even when you call and the recording doesnt prompt any call ahead appointment.
A neighborhood dog attacked 2 other dogs in the span of 2 weeks. We tried to file a report and have been waiting SINCE MAY 5th to hear from ANYONE. The attack occured on April 28th and we called repeatedly to no avail. This stopped us from being able to file a report. Finally on May 5th, we reached someone who said theyd issue us a case number. Its almost been a FULL MONTH. Its disturbing to think that a dog is being given free reign to attack other dogs in the neighborhood and possibly escalate to small children because the Cobb County Aniaml Control Dept. isnt responding. Tragic.
Staff is disappointing. You can get AWESOME animal and friend for life at incredible bargain. Staff will cut deal if they think youre interested.
We adopted Dane their name and we kept it in October. He is a home run. Approximately 7 months old and was already crate and housebroken. He is so sweet and lovable. We are pleased with our choice. He did have kennel cough but our vet said that is expected with animals keep in close quarters. Great company at night for me.
We adopted two dogs from this shelter and had a wonderful experience with the staff and it was an overall wonderful experience.
I used to volunteer here and they are extremely rude to volunteers. Thats is why I stopped and currently volunteer at Fulton. They have a high kill rate and make fun of dogs as they are going to be put down. The dog might not be able to understand but I can!!! That was so horrible to hear. I know that many of the people who work there are not the most upstanding citizens, but come on. I give it three stars because I still want people to adopt from here and rescue animals from this place. Treat your volunteers better! I was berated just because I disagree about how long a certain snake gets! Sorry but Im going to trust an experts opinion as opposed to someone that works at a government funded kill shelter. Either way making fun of animals being put to sleep is wrong! And shows how much they care.
This will be my new girl come Friday. Gracie is her name and what a wonderful little lady she is!
We had a great experience adopting 2 pups from the shelter. Brook was very kind yet professional in guiding us through the process.
Great people working here!
A person I know who wishes to remain anonymous has in the past 72 hours had to surrender a dog that was adopted from a shelter because the shelter she adopted it from had no knowledge of the dog, and explained that the dog was friendly and well socialized. After the dog bit her fiance in the face several times over the course of several months, my friend decided to surrender the dog out of necessity. The dog is an anxious wreck, bites, is not house trained, etc. There were a lot of lies told to her by the other shelter. She was sold a false bill of goods on the dog, and since the other shelter would not take it back, she had to turn it in at this shelter. My friend --like anyone who has to surrender their animal, was understandably incredibly upset. This is not an easy situation for anyone involved, especially when you know the fate of the animal. However, the person who booked the dog in told my friend --no less than 8 times, that owner surrender dogs are the first to be put down. While this may be a factual statement, to mentally torment a young woman who is only trying to get out of a situation she was never informed of in the first place is despicable. I genuinely hope that whomever said that never finds themselves in a situation where they are forced to make a difficult decision like that. Compassion goes a long way, but obviously this place is devoid of it.
Adopted an adorable black lab mix I was told had a little Kennel cough and would be fine after a few days of antibiotics. After taking him home and falling in love, everything came to an abrupt halt as I rushed my dog to the emergency vet only 3 days after getting him as he was puking bile all night. 10 hours and $500 later, I was told my beautiful pup had Parvovirus, which is difficult and extremely costly to cure as well as painful for the pup. We had to put down our brand new adopted pup and all Cobb County Animal Control had to say was “we don’t test adult dogs for Parvo, only puppies.” Cobb county animal control was not willing to euthanize our dog for us either, which alone cost $145 to do.So, not only is this facility infested with Parvovirus, they will not be sorry when you’re hit with an unexpected medical bill and no dog only THREE DAYS after adopting.I highly suggest if you adopt a dog, especially a puppy or stray with an unknown background, that you request a parvovirus test result. Our dog was vaccinated for parvovirus upon adoption, but unknown to us, he had already been infected with the virus and never tested prior to vaccination.Awful experience that I do not wish for anyone else to go through. Please be cautious. My heart is broken.
My brother and sister in law had an appointment to meet a dog that I had found as a stray in my neighborhood, and were coldly turned away because they were one minute late to their appointment. They were not given any option to reschedule or to wait and stay to see if any openings came up. We were very hurt as they waited 2 weeks for this appointment and are wanting badly to get this dog out of the system and into a home as this is a kill shelter. We are very worried this pitbull will be put down due to a lack of customer service and the attitude of one shelter employee.
Very loud. Could not concentrate on finding a dog
They kept renewing my missing dog report. I am happy to say they let me look at every animal they had and we were ready for an adoption tomorrow but my fur baby was found safe this morning 💖🙏 Thank you everyone
This place is not welcoming to those that really want to adopt a pet. They have a system where you are required to get on a waiting list for a pet. I have already gone there 3 times for 3 pets and not been #1 so I go there only to see someone else take home the pet I had been waiting days to hopefully take home that day. This is heartwrenching for an adoptee. This system is great for the fact the dogs are adopted, however, why do I have to continuously have to keep getting on lists only to stand at the door before they open and asks everyone there, what pet are you here for? What number are you? Very poorly designed adoption system. I encourage you to look elsewhere if you dont want to go through that process.
My husband and I have adopted two dogs from here in the last 4 or 5 years, and the staff is probably the the best customer service Ive seen anywhere in Cobb County. I know that doesnt really say a lot, so Ill go on. They smile, they are incredibly accommodating, they seem to be genuinely happy every time an animal finds a home. They listen when you talk to them, no matter how much you talk. My husband always thinks it over before we take an animal home, while I obsessively call and make sure the pet is still there. They are always polite and helpful, once even letting me know that they were concerned that a dog we were thinking over might not be there much longer because his time was almost up. These people have a job I could never do, and they do it with a smile, and in an area where nearly every other business has stopped paying any attention to Customer Service. Outstanding.Wouldnt mind if the fees were lower, but the service makes up for it.
Called because I am going on week three of a den of coyotes howling at night on our property (next to my childrens play set) and was told to hire someone to trap them. If yall dont take care of a den of coyotes in heavily populated areas, what do you actually do at Animal Control?Update in response: Thank you for this information Cobb County Animal Control. Please tell your employees to respond accordingly instead of We dont do that, call a private company. The information offered here in response was far more detailed than the help I received over the phone.
If I could give negative stars I would. The staff here is awful especially Supervisor Harris. We adopted a dog that based on their write up and his temperament at the shelter we thought would be a good fit. We took him home and he terrorized our other pets and just about tore my daughters legs to shreds. When we tooke him back to the shelter they told us they were not taking in animals and that if they did he would be euthanized right away. Supervisor Harris went as far as to say she would make my daughter walk him to the euthanasia room. . All of this goes against everything that their website states. Also, when we were adopting him some other dogs started fighting and the staff was cussing and carrying on which Made It worse instead of better.Unprofessional staff that is lacking empathy and direction.
Can you guys please check your voice mail me and my mother want to adopt
A lot of bad attitude here in my 2020 experience. 5 years ago they had a stray cat I was feeding but they said he had feline hiv and worked with a charity who adopts hiv cats specifically. I went there the next day to see him 1 more time and was told they euthanized him.
Went to the shelter with my wife to look for a therapy dog. We left with the most sweetest husky (yes husky) around. The adoption process was quick and only 110 dollars. Lots of cats and dogs to choose from. Check here first before paying too much at a retailer.
I would like to thank Cobb County Animal Shelter for assisting me with my new and adorable little one. They were very attentive to my needs and that made it very easy for me to select my new four legged forever family member. I am sorry that I did not get the volunteers name who assisted me with the selection of my Cockapoo, she was excellent!!!!! She went above and beyond as she also showed empathy for me for the lost of my ill 13 year old Lhasa poo. Special thanks to agent CM Foy who made the transition easy.
I went to Aminal Shelter to adopt a dog because I have passion for all mistreated animals. When I saw the puppy I wanted i went to the shelter. We went thought the policy of putting your name on the list. The young man told us, and repeated, the person on your ID is the only who can pick up the dog. We where #3on the list, #1 didn’t show up. #2 didn’t show up it was her husband and they gave the dog to him! And we are standing there telling them that’s not fair. The employee who yes is a white man is telling us he got a phone call and was told to give him the dog??? I don’t want to believe we where dismissed because of the color of my skin, or my gender, or what I had on. I won’t go back to Cobb County Animal Shelter.
Very nice people that helped me out when my dog was let loose from the hotel I was staying in. Being on the road is hard enough with pets but they made finding him easy and they were all very helpful. 10/10 would go find my dog there again.
Well kept place. Officers were very helpful in the adoption process. Wish they had a marketing page bc there are lots of dogs that need a home. We bought ours last October and even though shes messy, only 2 years old, Daisys a good dog.
I visited the Cobb County Animal Control Shelter looking for my missing dog and two puppies. They got my dogs about an hour before I got there. I gave a description of my dogs, which I admit is pretty unique, and was pointed directly to them after just a few minutes.Reclaiming a dog does cost $50 per dog but each of the dogs was tested and treated for worms and the puppies received vaccinations. While I was waiting for the release process to be completed, the officers played with my dog and her puppies. They were gentle, caring and kind. They even offered options to help find homes for the puppies. As terrifying as this situation was, the CCAC made it as painless as it could have possibly been. I had such a positive experience and really appreciated the officers and volunteers help.
Chandler is the best employee this building has! So helpful and nice.
Always helpful and truthful regarding the animals and health issue
This place changed my opinion of shelters. Most of the staff members where beyond helpful and wanted to see these dogs get adopted (and not only adopted, adopted to the right home). All of the oficers really took their time to talk to me and work with me. I really apreciate it.
The rudest employees ever. On Sunday we brought a stray cat in and knew we wanted to adopt her, but we also knew we had to legally bring it to an animal shelter in case it belonged to someone else. They lady who helped us was sweet and told us after seven days we can come by to adopt her if no one has claimed her. She gave us a sheet that allowed us to be first in line to adopt her. The next Sunday my husband goes there to pay for her adoption, hands the employee our paper and he tells him “What am I suppose to do with this?” After my husband explains the situation, the man tells him our cat is already gone and that we should’ve been here as soon as we opened to adopt her. They opened at 2 and we got there at 4. No one told us we had to be there as soon as the opened. He said we should’ve read the paper, but no where does it say to be there by the time they opened or at 2. He then continues to say “well now you know.” Did not apologize or anything for our loss of adoption.
My mom and I found a stray dog today that was in bad shape, but it wouldnt let us get a hold of it. I called animal control because I wasnt sure what else to do, but I was weary that they would come in with their big sticks and jerk the dog around and shove it in a cage. Cobb County animal control was NOTHING like that.I made the call and the lady that I talked to dispatched an officer immediately to the scene where my mother and I had been able to herd the stray into a partially fenced-in area. Officer Hammond (sp?) arrived on the scene and was amazing. This dog was obviously older and in bad shape, covered in tumors, and officer Hammond could not have been more gentle or caring with her. She got the leash around the dogs neck and convinced the dog to walk with her without having to use any force, and her compassion for the poor dog was palpable. She was wonderful, she told us how they had a vet on staff who would check the dog out and fix her up if there was anything left they could do for her, and she even took the time to get my mom and I the case number for the dog so that we could call and check on it later.I am not sure if all animal control officers here are like officer Hammond, but I sure hope they are. Thank you officer Hammond for caring, and thank you Cobb County Animal Control for helping poor homeless dogs who have no where else to go.
Visited on a Sunday. Kennels were clean as can be expected. One of the ladies in the cat room was super friendly.... very unlike some of the hostile cat ladies you get at the local rescue groups.Sadly, most of the adult dogs are pit bulls, but thats pretty common around Atlanta. Great interactive website to view what they have there.
My experience at the shelter was very good. I got a shih tzu mix. He is a great dog! The staff was very helpful and answered any questions or concerns i had! I dont think anyone should go for the negative comments.. Go to the shelter and take a look. Its the animals that need help! At the end of the day you might walk out with a best friend!
Budget cuts during recession never restored--citizens lost a lot of services. Place seems clean, staff harried but professional. disability access is very poor.
Employees have bad attitude and are not willing to help.
My dogs snuck out of the fence (again). The same officer who got them last time got them again. She remembered them, called me to tell me she had them, took care of them, and brought them home. She cares about the animals that come in and takes her responsibility to take care of the people and animals, in Cobb seriously. Thank you.
My boyfriend and I adopted the most sweetest dog from here. And they are super clean. They make sure you sanitize their hands before touching another animal to keep everything on the DL
Unfortunately, we experienced a house fire. It was a catastrophic fire -- leaving it without a roof, windows, etc. No one was physically injured during the fire,a both of our dogs escaped through their doggie dog. One dog hung around and a neighbor was able to put her in her yard while the fire Dept extinguished the flames. However, our other dog wandered off and apparently found his way to an apartment complex 1/2 of a mile leasaway. The ing office had Cobb Animal Control retrieve him. Long story shortened, the next day we were delighted to find him being held at animal control. He was a formerly rescued Beagle, his microchip had apparently fallen out, and I didnt have any proof (adoption records, pictures) that he belonged to us. Fortunately, he wore a very unique collar that I was able to describe well enough to satisfy the person helping me. *Note: Email yourself photos of your pets every 6 months as you never know when you might need them! I paid a fee of roughly $50 broughtand him home --a hotel suite until we could find a rental while our home was being rebuilt. The $50 fee to claim him was something I hadnt expected, but they also had him checked over by a vet and he was given all of his annual shots -- that in itself was less than I usually pay my vet. Initially, I found the employee that helped me to be a bit rude as I only told her Id lost my dog and came to see if he had been brought in. She wanted to know why I wasnt responsible enough to keep him from getting lost. She changed her tune when I explained the situation with the fire. Fast Forward 7 years:. While both of those dogs have past (17 & 18 yrs old), I have adopted another stray. Because I was leaving his doggie door open whenever I left my home, I didnt realize that sometimes he would go outside at night and bark. I suppose I slept through it. A couple of months later I experienced a stroke, and although a friend came to check in on my dog while I was in the hospital, he apparently barked quite a bit over the 4 days that I was admitted. I had a relatively new neighbor report the barking to Animal Control, who dispatched Officer Blount. At that time, my neighbor and I did not have a pleasant relationship (we do now). Officer Blount visited me on two occasions, and I found him to be very respectful, as well as helpful in advising me on cruelty-free ways to curb my newer dogs barking. I have only had pleasant experiences with Cobbs Animal Control. I volunteer at a non-profit shelter and when we have room, we often bring back cats from AC to help them free up more space. They cats come in in good health and have obviously been taken care of as well as any similar boarding situation would be. Government Shelters do not have the fortune of having volunteers to foster cats and dogs in their homes like many non-profits/private shelters. When they reach capacity cannot place the overflow with rescue groups, they have little option but to euthanize. Its sad, but its as simple as that. I truly believe that rescued pets make the best companions. Its as if they know youve saved their lives. Another shout-out to Officer Blount for representing CCAC as the professional organization it prides itself in being.
Came in for a brief assessment of a neighborhood stray. Took time to give us a brief assessment and seemed very happy that we intended to continue to feed/shelter her in the neighborhood. Very professional and courteous in spite of their stressful job function, especially on the weekend. Recommend you give an abandoned four-legged friend a forever home.
I adopted the sweetest dog. He started sneezing blood the first night and when I took him to the vet the next day he was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection. There is no way the shelter didnt know he was sick, but his profile said healthy. I called the shelter to let them know that he had this so other dogs around him might too and the woman cut me off saying yeah, thats really common. Then I was forwarded to a voicemail. I am sick to my stomach that the employees know these dogs are getting sick, dont do anything about it while they are there and just shrug it off.
Great experience and got the sweetest kitten from here
Just had a stray dog in my neighborhood that nipped at a local kid who didnt realize he was frightening the dog. Animal services dispatcher was kind, I had no hold, and the officer came 10 minutes later. Im new to Cobb and this was like night-and-day with how unresponsive and rude my old countys animal services was!! Dog ran away so unfortunately the officer couldnt get him but he circled the neighborhood again. Ill be bringing the dog in myself once he reappears.County shelters always get a bad rep but this left me feeling Cobb county employees really care! Thanks!
