Worst place I’ve ever lived in my 5 years of college living. Our house flooded every time it rained, they didn’t believe us or do anything to help fix it. Dry wall all the way along the basement rotted out due to water damage along with water damage on all wood in basement. Basement bedroom is not livable due to flooding. Ceilings in rooms upstairs were all cracked and one even fell down our first day in the house. Nothing was cleaned either when we moved in. Many attempts to have Rent MSU come fix the issues in our house yet we got ignored until the past 3 months of living. Before we signed the lease we asked if they were separate and we were told yes but when we went to sign it was a joint lease. Not acceptable. If I could’ve given 0 stars I would’ve. Would not recommend living with Rent MSU. Good luck to those who move into our house next, you’ll need it with this joke of a rent company.

The day we moved in my room was flooded in the basement (it was carpet). We called RentMSU 3 times a day for 2 1/2 months before we got a response and even then, it was only because we had the fire Marshall involved due to unsafe living conditions upstairs. After they reached out NOTHING was fixed. Their way of “fixing” was to nail a small piece of plywood to the ceiling in one of the upstairs rooms that was literally crumbling apart. We were also told that our lease was NOT a joint lease and it wasn’t until one of our roommates didn’t pay that we were informed that it was in fact a joint lease. Please, don’t put yourself through what multiple people have gone through. The prices can be cheap but it is not worth it. Do yourself a favor, put in the extra $100 a month to get a decent place where the management actually cares about their tenants.

Got to the location for move in and there was no new carpets, they were not shampooed as we were told and I filled my vacuum bowl/filter 3 times. I brought up not receiving new carpets and the gal helping me knew nothing about it and told me management would call, I never received a phone call. I did receive a text from another Rent MSU working though, but still no contact from management. Other than this issue, the location is great.

I am a student at MSU and this is my 3rd unit in Mankato. This year is the first time renting through Rent MSU. They are a great management company. During the tour, me and my future roommates were taken to multiple units to view in their van. Since living here management has been great at communication. They cut our grass frequently and they plow the same day it snows. They even left us a bag of candy at our front door today for Halloween. I had to leave a review because they have been nothing but generous to us.

Worst place you could rent from. House was in terrible condition when we moved in. It smelt like cat pee, there was still food in the kitchen, and there was still belongings from the previous renters in our basement. We got charged for them cleaning the others belongings out of the house when that shouldve been done beforehand. They raised our rent on the lease without acknowledging it to us. The pipes in the basement freeze in the winter, therefore, they placed a space heater near the pipes to prevent this from happening. Originally, they paid for that portion of the electricity bill. Then suddenly they stopped paying for it, resulting in our utility bill to sky rocket. We tried calling to get this settled but they NEVER pick up the phone. We only recieved $6 back from our security deposit from THEIR OWN maintenance problems. There were so many safety violations in the house and they did not care to make any repairs.

I highly recommend finding any other management company for your housing needs. These people are so unprofessional and NEVER answer any phone calls/respond to voicemails. We moved into a house with black mold growing in the basement and it took a whole month of living there for them to finally do something about it. Not to mention they charge an arm and leg for the last utilities bill that they neglect to tell you that they double it at the end. Worst experience ever, not even sure how they call themselves a business.

After looking at 11 different apartment complexes in Mankato, my boyfriend and I finally settled on an upstairs unit in a house near Downtown Mankato. We chose this unit for its proximity to entertainment, in-unit laundry, and all utilities included in our rent for added convenience.Immediately upon moving in on August 1st, we had to thoroughly deep clean our unit before we unpacked. We also had to call for a few maintenance fixes, which were completed relatively quickly after I spoke with the property manager, Molly. Since then, we haven’t run into any problems and all staff have been very accommodating.Overall, our living experience has been very satisfactory and we truly enjoy the unit we are in. We already signed on for next year, but are hoping to stay a third year until we graduate. There are several great qualities that couldn’t have been beat by any of the other 10 units we looked at, and it was a no-brainer, bang-for-your-buck choice to choose the unit we were in.The management has also been very accommodating with my ESA, and I’m grateful for that. I would recommend RentMSU to anyone looking for an affordable place to rent with some added privacy of living in a house.

We have had two great experiences with the Rent MSU management staff. The first was in August, 2015 when my daughter moved into The Lofts. The unit had not been properly cleaned by the previous tenants, so the three girls moving in had to spend some time deep cleaning before bringing in their furniture. When we contacted Shayne about the issue, they gave each girl $50 for the time they spent cleaning. She was very responsive and professional. The second experience was in April, 2016. My daughter and a roommate are moving from The Lofts to The Quarters in the summer of 2016. When they toured the property, they were told they would be assigned to the building of their choice, in a corner unit. This was not in writing when they signed the lease in October, 2015 so I warned them that it might not happen. When they got their apartment assignment in April, it was not the building or unit they had discussed with the leasing agent. I called to discuss the situation with Danielle. She was very receptive to fixing the situation and promptly contacted the site manager, Mandy. Within 30 minutes of my call, I received an email that they had re-assigned my daughter to the desired building. They were, again, very professional, prompt and courteous. A great customer service experience!

Truly a terrible place to be in business with. The property we were in was absolutely terrible, the house wasnt even level. Barely livable. Place was infested with every kind of bug imaginable when it wasnt cold out. And when it was cold the house was so poorly weather sealed we wasted so much money on heating just for it to be 40 degrees. That house was just an accurate representation of the company as a whole. Maintenance requests were barely dealt with if at all: they wouldnt fix broken outlets, wouldnt replace light bulbs that burned out day one, and they wouldnt even give us keys to the bedrooms. And when mold was growing in one of the bedrooms they basically blamed us and didnt offer any help. 100% regret renting from them. Stay away if at all possible. I would give them 0/5 stars if I could.

They have study booths that I use all the time along with a coffee machine. There is also a game room that has pool, darts, air hockey, a golf simulator, and much more! There are also multiple pools along with an 80 person hot tub. Upstairs is the workout facility and tanning beds. Everything that you need is right there! The only reason this place is getting 1 star is simply because I can not give them 0. This review is specifically towards the staff of COLLEGE TOWN. This is some of the worst service I have ever received. Not only are the staff rude and unwilling to help when we come into the club house. But they DO NOT answer their phones, and always claim to be on lunch breaks or meetings. As a PAYING tenant we should not have to walk all the way to the club house to have simple questions asked because they are too lazy to answer. Example: this morning my roommate called and the phone rang twice before being sent to voicemail. My roommate then went in to the clubhouse to ask why the phone was not answered and this was the response sorry I was dusting. Also, they love scamming you for all your money. As if we are not paying enough already (being broke college students), they love to find all the small things to charge you for. I wish they had adults running this place.

I have been living in a Rent MSU house for just under a year now, and my overall experience has been good. Rent MSU offers a variety of different living options such as their houses, apartments, and of course the Quarters or College town. My suggestion to anyone interested is to live in the Quarters or College Town, because if you are fine with spending $50-$100 extra a month you will have a much better experience. Our house is downtown and it is large and spacious in the common areas however my room is small and is freezing in the winter. I do not think the price I pay comes close to being a match with my living space. The house is old so it will naturally leak heat and utilities can be expensive in the winter. My room only has one power outlet so I am limited to what I can do in my room with electronics. Despite these few negative things, the houses location is close in relation to the bars downtown which is nice if you like going. Also, me being a college student, the location is a lot farther away than I would like for the price, as it is about a 30 minute walk uphill, and if you drive you have to either test your luck in the free lot for a spot or buy a parking pass.

Ive lived at the Quarters, managed by rent MSU for a year now. I would not recommend this place to anyone unless someone else is paying it for you. There managers are incompetent. Making promises or telling you things are one way and then doing something completely different.Parking has always been an issue, I dont even think they have enough parking for all of the residents here. I mentioned to them to have assigned parking so people can be at least some what close to their apartment and the response was that would be too hard and no one would follow it.The club house is a joke. They have games, but take away certain things, (i.e. ping pong balls/ paddles) because people living here kept breaking them. The pool has been shut down at least 3 times due to the fact that they dont have people monitoring it and they allow people to bring in glass and then they have to shut it down. The hot tub was never open during the winter and when it was it was from 10-4. (people have class and work during those hours.)The gym equipment is a joke. I believe at least 2 of the treadmills have been broken the entire time Ive been here.Snow removal was non existent, one day there was ice everywhere on the side walks, coming home from work both me and my roommate fell and bruised badly, management did nothing about it.There is garbage and broken glass everywhere all the time, multiple complaints to management did nothing.Security guards do nothing ever. I had to call the police multiple times for fights breaking out, out side my apartment at 1am.There is constantly people who dont live here using the amenities that they dont pay for.I have put in multiple work orders and nobody has come to fix the items I said needed fixing. Every time I call and talk to management they have excuse after excuse for everything. I absolutely hate this place. IT IS NOT WORTH IT AT ALL TO LIVE HERE!

Hands down the most unprofessional management I have ever encountered in any business. We are current;y renting a house that is hardly up to code, poorly insulated, with appliances that are constantly breaking. When said appliances break, we submit maintenance requests that go weeks without action. Our refrigerator broke conveniently right after we moved in, spoiling all of the groceries we had just purchased. Upon sitting down with our property manager and the property owner, we negotiated compensation for our spoiled food in the form of visa cards. Being college students, we never had the time to pick up the cards until the end of December (negotiations occurred in October). We went into the office and talked with Molly (she rocks), she was not aware of the situation but gave us the okay for a visa card. As we returned less than an hour later, we were lectured by Molly, with her office door open as she called us DESPERATE. Never have I encountered this level of disrespect in business. College students are their customers and they have no problem degrading them. They consistent;y disregard state laws in terms of leasing codes. Their inspections last roughly 30 seconds and are not thorough enough for any sort of insurance company.DO NOT rent from this company! They know that they are the primary leasing company in town and will not hesitate to hold that over your head. I would rather live in a tent, its the same temperature as our house. This company should be investigated and shut down for their shady management tactics. Go Mavs.

While my leasing situation with RentMSU is not the best due to problems with my roommates side of things, that has not stopped them from treating me like garbage over the phone. I rarely get upset with people over the phone, especially when I just need to get something done. But if your company thinks its professional to be completely unhelpful and rude when Im merely trying to resolve our issues, well, thats enough for me to go online and leave a one star review. Ive heard from multiple other people, even acquaintances, that theyve experienced similar. No doubt they have some genuinely nice people working for them, and its obviously hard to deal with college students doing whatever they want, but thats what you signed up for when you went into college leasing.Maybe consider treating the people who pay for your job to exist with some professionalism. We may be college students, but were *mostly* all adults and I highly doubt you would talk the same way to my father. College Town and The Quarters are nice but not I can treat my tenants however I want nice.Edit: Forgot to add that the internet is HORRIBLE. Building a brand new complex the size of The Quarters and not installing fiber optic lines is downright moronic. 20Mb/sec tops in 2016 is pathetic and anyone born after 1960 should understand that.

Dont be fooled by the name of the organization, RentMSU is in no way affiliated with the state college here in Mankato. They have poorly maintained houses in the downtown area as well as over the top pricing for mediocre apartments and town houses. When we moved in we expected the house to at least be clean and orderly, however the whole property was trashed from the previous tenants and they were very slow with the following maintenance requests. Expect bug infestations in most of these houses, as well as mold. RentMSU did not budge on any of our requests until we threatened them with legal action and even when they did it was for their benefit considering all we wanted was to get out of or lease, which they would not let despite breaking their own terms in the lease. Would recommend seeking other options before choosing this one.

Couldnt agree more with the previous posters about Allison, and the effectiveness of the company of addressing issues with properties. The other actual posters not google users were spot on, I would only assume that RentMSU inflated their score with fake postings.

Horrible rental company. They had no sympathy when I had to move up to the cities and made me pay a full lease of rent (12 months). They would not help me find a subleaser or help me with the cost of rent even though they were already making 4500 PER MONTH on the house. Would not recommend. Also very slow at maintenance requests and other requests by tenants.

They were helpful and had a great demeanor. However they came across as a tad unprofessional.

Terrible-Terrible-Terrible. If Google had an option to subtract stars I would without hesitation. The only reason that RentMSU is still in business is because they own many of the housing options available for students around Minnesota State University. I have been staying in The Lofts, and as an engineering student, let me tell you for what ever credibility I may hold, the place is built like a shanty town. The walls are extremely thin, none of the appliances work longer than a few months without something going wrong. I assume that the insulation within the walls is practically non-existent. The furnace runs steady and we only have it set to 66.On a more positive note, we couldnt pay our electricity bill or gas bill for the first three months because RentMSU sent the wrong addresses to the utility companies when the building was being built. I finally called the electric company to figure it out and was on the phone with them for TWO HOURS setting things straight. RENTMSU still was unaware of the problem.... how long would this have gone on if I hadnt called???? Still to this day we are being billed for a unit with a different physical address completely, our billing address was just switched so we would receive our bill... who even knows if I am paying for MY utilities... RENTMSU hasnt seemed to concerned...We were hit with a big bill then, which was fine but it was nothing like the utilities estimate that RENTMSU gave us before move in. We live very conservative as a unit but our total water, electric, heating bill averages 200 a month...When we moved in there was paint and scratches all over the hard wood floor, keep in mind these units are brand new this year and I am the first living here... I spent a night when I moved in scraping paint off the floor with a knife because it looked like hell.A funny thing about our apartment and a very good example of the kind of company RENTMSU is.... when you walk in the front door the air ducts are exposed. Normally and properly you would attach the vents for the rooms and then seal the seam with tape or silicone, well the first vent (the one you can see from the front door) is sealed. The rest throughout the whole apartment are roughly screwed on and leak air, its pointless to even have an adjustable flow vent....Parking is another fun adventure! when we signed our lease at the beginning of the summer we were told that there would be no issues with parking, that we would all be able to park around the building... well surprise!!! No you cant anymore, only one person from each apartment can park near the building, the rest are stuck walking down the street to another parking lot.Building Security: one of the attractants to The Lofts for myself was that the building was supposed to be secured completely so that only tenants with a magnetic key could enter the building... that worked for about the first two weeks... then the locks broke... and they still arent fixed and it is now December 2, 2013. So any old person can wonder into the building... an example: mid October there was a gentleman that was very intoxicated in our hallway banging on our door. I let it slide for about the first hour. Hour #2: The cops show up, it turns out this guy has a warrant out for his arrest... and he was just chilling in our hallway... why you ask?! BECAUSE THERE ARE NO LOCKS ON THE EXTERIOR DOORS!!!!If you are a parent looking for a place for your child to live: Please take my advice and look elsewhere. I agree that Student housing is going to be lower on the quality scale in general but RENTMSU sets a new low. It is not worth the headache your son or daughter will go through renting from a company such as this. You will only be punishing your kids.If you are a prospective student: Simply put, Run. Look somewhere else. The modern look of some of RENTMSUs properties may seem intriguing but they are built terribly and managed even more poorly.
