Sylvan Manhattan has done a wonderful job working with my daughter over the last several months. Their program is great for students needing help catching up on their studies. This is a great place for learning and building confidence. They do a fantastic job!

My daughter has been coming to Sylvan to improve her reading, comprehension and spelling. Her grades have been suffering but after Sylvan, she was able improve her grades from Cs and Bs to a straight A report card. The staff is friendly and care about the kids’ success. I am very happy she is here.

My daughter started Sylvan a few months ago and weve seen great improvements not only in her academics, but in her attitude towards reading. She is more confident in her ability to do her school work. The staff there are friendly and welcoming.

My son struggled with reading and phonics as a 1st grader, and Sylvan has been amazing. He now reads at his level and his Math is also improved a great deal. We attribute a great deal of his progress to the one on one tutelage he receives at Sylvan Learning Center.

The Sylvan Director and the Staff have been professional, helpful and supportive. Our daughter continues to develop skills at Sylvan that then immediately transfer into the classroom. In addition, her confidence continues to grow.

My daughter was going into 5th grade lacking some 3rd and most of her 4th grade math skill sets. In a matter of months they got her math skill set to pre algebra. Our daughter LOVES going to Sylvan. She started Sylvan over the summer to help address some gaps she had in her reading fluency. They started by giving her a reading skills assessment, which nailed her issues EXACTLY. They then focused on those specific issues. Once she mastered those issues, she was able to gain the confidence and fluency she needed to actually start enjoying reading. It has been a wonderful process to watch. I highly recommend Sylvan of Manhattan. Dont let the cost hold you back - they have payment plans available. The investment is worth it.

Sylvan provided an individual curriculum for my children to help develop their writing and reading skills. The best gift was the confidence they gained, in and outside of the classroom. The positive, quite environment allowed my children to learn and grow. The patience, and dedication from the staff was amazing! This was one of the best investments in their education! I was so concerned by my sons struggle with reading that I was considering holding him back a year. Thank goodness I found Sylvan! Within the first 2 weeks I saw dramatic improvement and his self-esteem has done a complete turnaround. Such a fun and positive learning environment. He is now excited to move on to second grade. We live abroad but were in NYC for five weeks this summer. I needed short term intensive reading support for my 1st grader. The team at Sylvan assessed her over a two hour period and were able to identify virtually the same weaknesses her teacher had identified at the end of the year. I was shocked and impressed. We embarked on a five day per week, 2 hrs per day program. My daughter loved attending. Never a hesitation, even with the gorgeous weather. I received regular feedback and always felt like I could ask questions and receive updates. For sure, it isnt cheap but it was well worth it. Not only did my daughter acquire additional technical skills to ensure a smooth start into 2nd grade but she grew in confidence. What more could I ask for? I would highly recommend the team on the Upper West Side.

Sylvan has provided a positive, and caring atmosphere for our daughter to work on developing her math skills. With the help of her tutors, she is able to work on both remedial skill development, as well receive help with her current math classes. Math is not easy for her, and without Sylvan she would be lost. Her tutors are warm, kind, and caring and are able to connect with her in a way that helps her be eager and willing to learn.

As a Junior in high school at the time of posting this review. I have been going to Sylvan Learning ever since Freshman/Sophomore year. All i can say is the Teachers there are Incredible. I get assistance on Homework particularly in Math. They also offer Help with English, and a whole lot more. Sylvan offers ACT test trials and ACT Prep for High School students I go there 2 nights a week. . Freshman/Sophmore year my Parents thought i was going to fail until we found Sylvans. If your child is Struggling in school Sylvan Learning is a great place to help them get back on Track.

Unfortunately, Sylvan’s main concern is with the dollars associated with each child. Sylvan is extremely expensive, and sales tactics are used quite frequently. They will tell you that your child will simply not benefit from 2 hours a week, they need 3 hours per week in order to see any progress. Once they pressure you and get you to sign because, let’s face it, we all want what is best for our children, you cannot scale back. Their payment policies are stringent, and it takes an act of congress to get a refund for services that you may have purchased to use 6 months down the road.The quality of the tutoring is fine, not exceptional. You can hire an education major from the university for 30% of what you will pay at Sylvan and get the same results.What turned me off, and why I will not return to Sylvan, is their money-hungry payment and refund policies. One should never be shamed or scolded for requesting a refund for services that have not yet been provided.

We have been very satisfied with our experience at Sylvan! The teachers and staff are committed to the success of our child. The tutoring is unique to my childs needs, and I love how they have helped him increase his confidence in his reading. My son really enjoys earning tokens for his hard work. Would definitely recommend Sylvan to anyone needing tutoring assistance for their children.

After learning my child was falling behind in 1st grade, I reluctantly decided it was time to reach out for some assistance with getting him caught up. We enrolled my son at Sylvan and noticed a huge difference in him within the first few weeks. Sylvan built his confidence level which made working with him at home much easier. They also worked on giving him the foundation he needed to improve drastically at school. We are pleased by his results so far and have even decided to enroll our older child for extra enrichment. My husband and I feel Sylvan in Manhattan is worth your time and money to ensure success in your childs education.

The staff pinpointed the problems areas and made a plan that best fit our childs needs and we have seen amazing improvements and a new desire to read! They make learning fun! Couldnt be happier with our decision to go to Sylvan. His confidence in the classroom is noticed by his teacher at school. The Sylvan staff are there for the students there is no doubt about it!

We have been going here for years. As adults we look forward to weekends but my son looks forward to Wednesday because thats the day we go to Sylvan and he loves it more than the weekend

My son is high level autistic. We have struggled in our school district and pretty much been shoved in a corner as non teachable. We started at Sylvan almost a year ago and they have built his confidence and learning abilities to the max. He loves to go to Sylvan and if he could go everyday he would. Love Sylvan! My husband and I both agree that we truly wished this was something that was in place when we were growing up. Sylvan has become our first choice in supplementing our child’s education in all areas of studies. Even though my daughter, has now caught up with her classmates, I am convinced that supplementing a child’s education is very necessary. Especially in a time where the classrooms are overcrowded and the ability for a child to receive one-on-one time with their teacher is almost non-existent. I noticed that my child certainly needed the extra attention and with the changes in the curriculum, I was only hindering her.My daughter is in the 2nd Grade and at the beginning of the year I noticed that she was falling behind in Common Core Math; this surely did a number on her self-confidence and she began asking me not to go to school. She would come home and say, “Mom, I am really stupid, I can’t get the work. As a desperate and worried mother, I called a meeting with my daughters teachers and principal to see how we can tackle this issue together. The staff at her school recommended Sylvan Leaning Center in Manhattan, KS and said that many of their students had some promising results from the center. I immediately called them and they were so quick to address my issues and assured me that I am not alone. They understood that today’s math curriculum are completely different from when I was in grade school. I took my daughter for the assessment and from there we were able to come up with a learning schedule. After only 2 weeks of sessions at Sylvan, my daughter increased in her math skills tremendously: Her grades went from F to B+. After 1 month, all A’s! I couldn’t be more happier with the investment we made in our daughter attending Sylvan. They made the learning fun and effective!

They are not honest people, at least with respect to ACT trial test. They just want to promote their classes, and give your kids very very low scores and make you feel you need to sign up their class. DO NOT take their trial ACT test seriously.My suggestion to them, if they want to make something, make sure it looks reasonable. Dont make something ridiculous. I wouldve been cheated by them if they double the score to my kid. As soon as I saw that score, I knew they wrote the number blindly and randomly.I will never recommend this place to anyone.

My son absolutely loves going to Sylvan and enjoys reading now and is back on track with his education!
