Ellis Services completed my yard (~100sqft) project on 05/01 to include clean-up (removal of old pavers which I dismantled except for about 8 sqft of them), de-weeding, grading, and installment of a paver/ marble rock design. After receiving 5 quotes from different groups (labor only as I have access to materials) ranging from $600 to $2k, I choose this group expecting a seemless experience since they were local.Overall Im happy with the job and Im thankful its done because I couldnt have done it myself. The guys went above and beyond to get it done to my designed desire; for example, they de-stumped a root I wasnt sure was previously removed properly and re-arranged the pavers in a tighter design to suit patio furniture. And did so, without a fuss. I definitely appreciate it b/c it didnt have to be. However, there are disconnects that cannot be ignored since it results in having to elicit additional help.PROS:• The job was completed to my desire as far as design and quickly (not that there was any rush on my behalf)• The guys were enjoyable to work with and very full of character• Small business so ideally the money youre spending has a greater impactCONS:• Lack of scheduling accommodations: It was preferred to push the date back so that I could ensure everything was setup to their preferences. I got the impression they may not have been accustomed with this style of project. Most contractors/ carpenters Ive seen and worked with take their own measurements and advise on whats needed upon grasping an understanding of my project goal. For this experience, everything was on the fly. Which is also fine, because I know a lot of contractors/ carpenters like to go with the customer to get materials when performing labor only, but that didnt happen either. So I was left to my own defenses which seemed to rub them the wrong way as I had to make several extra trips to the store to account for the areas I didnt receive professional input.• Lack of communication (on both of our behalfs): From the beginning, I led with the fact that the space needed to be properly graded for water runoff to avoid water puddling at the foundation of the home. Its 4 days later, and the recent rainfall has proven that, that concern was not heard as a paver is already beginning to sink. Ive reached out for further advice but to no avail.• Lack of attention to detail (on both of our behalfs): When the foreman came the first day (a few days prior) to get the clean-up out the way, I specified that the initiative for the project was the drainage issue. I also pointed out that I do use my shed to store fire wood during the winter but that is the extent of its use b/c of creepy crawlers. During the project, a seperate gentleman asked if I go in and out of it. I said no, not realizing he meant if I used it frequently in general. Now, its rocked in to the point that it doesnt open so the door has to be cut.Again, overall I am pleased that the guys worked with me to the extent that they did, but I definitely know to be more thorough and clear upfront for future endeavors. Per, a new landscaper, I now know the drain pipe should have been buried and redirected to avoid the puddling issues. Lessons learned are still apperciated!

Ellis, was awesome and they did a great job putting sod down in my back yard! I am proud of the work and I will have them back out to do more work.
Phenomenal work! Cleared an overgrown backyard and stayed until 900 PM, ensuring that everything was cleaned up and the job was done right. Antuan Ellis, the owner, is courteous, professional and a leader who was right there along side his workers.
