I love Hilldale Barber! They do a great job for a very reasonable price ($22, cash only) and it feels great to support such a long-term, locally-owned business. No matter whose chair you sit in, you will have a pleasant conversation and leave with a great haircut.

I went here on a limb as I do have a usual girl in the area but I figured what the heck. I was in the area and needed a cut badly. I can only speak for Pam, who gave me the haircut today but it was a good experience! Nothing special in terms of extra services but all I needed was the basic cut anyway.She was great. Very friendly without being overly chatty or giving off a fake feeling. The cut itself was fantastic as well - you could see she was very experienced. It was much better than something youd find at most other generic walk in places.Would definitely recommend dropping in sometime. Not overly pricey at all. ($20 flat). For me today I walked in and experienced immediate, professional service.One extra note - credit/debit not accepted but being that its in the Hilldale Mall theres plenty of places to withdraw cash.

I have gone there numerous times for haircuts and have always been satisfied.

I moved to Madison in 2008 and looked for a good barbershop for about two years. I have been coming to the Hilldale Barber shop for 10 years now--best place in town. Its only $20, but make sure to leave a good tip. They deserve it.

Avoid Ken for everything other than a buzz cut. Nice guy, but he does not pay attention while cutting your hair and hence does a poor job.I came here for the first time because of a friend’s recommendation. Ken was the first available so I went with him. I should have recognized he was the first available because he rushes through every cut, looking all around the shop every minute or so and then quickly coming in with the clippers willy-nilly. Doesn’t even take the time to wet your hair when using scissors.For what it’s worth, the two women working seemed much more attentive and gave good cuts, but you’ll have to wait longer for them. Regulars clearly wait for them, and the women take a much longer time with their regulars because they are far more attentive.I had to go to another shop to get Ken’s work fixed.

I had the best haircut Ive ever had. Great company is how Id describe my stylist, but she definitely did know what she was doing. Im glad I went here. Although the haircut cost a little more than usual at, say, a cheaper place, I can see every day where the extra money went. Will be returning in the future.

Very nice folks! Didnt have to wait. Its a bit hidden down under the grocery store. Its a barber shop, and worked well for me. I ended up with a complete buzz (because thats what I had planned on), but stopped at a few stages along the way, just to see. They still just charged me for the buzz.

It was an excellent cut for the price! They even wrote down what they did for my reference! Definitely going to come back in the future!

They are friendly and accommodating. They only accept cash but there was some problem with my debit card. They allowed me to pay back on another day. HOWEVER, the quality of the work I got was so terrible. I showed the woman a picture of what I want and it was very basic. She failed it, and moreover, she cut my hair so short that I cannot re-style it. To be fair, I guess thats what you get for 20 bucks. Ill never never risk my hair with cheap service anymore.

Ken gave me exactly the haircut I asked for. Hes not big in conversation, but hes an attentive and efficient barber. Be aware that they dont accept plastic. Cash or check only.

This shop is quick, does a great job, and much more reasonably priced than anywhere else Ive found in Madison.

Ask owner if I could bring barber students through the shop for a tour and was shot down immediately. Its too bad because this place could use some better talent.

Old fella waved the clippers around my beard a bit at the request to tidy it up. It wasnt until I got home on looked in the mirror again that I noticed it was patchy and uneven as heck!

One of the few places that does my flat top the way I want it!

Pam is the best.

Asked the older guy to shape up my beard. He cut 90% of it off and left it all very uneven. Mustache is uneven. Left my sideburns longer than the beard. The buzz on my balding head is even spotty.

Pam and Michelle provide perfect haircuts.
