When I first arrived to Pittmans Academy, I came in timid and nervous. Ive never had experience with any form of martial arts or self defense. Now, Im going for my first degree black belt and I go in ready and determined to learn something new. I thank God for giving me this opportunity to learn from Professor Pittman and Ms G. People of God determined to share His wisdom as well. Here I learn the importance of wisdom when in a situation that might become physical. Though I have never been in a fight or started one, I now know what to say before using what I have learned. Pittmans Academy has taught me thats not all about strength, but wisdom about handling the situation. I highly recommend this Academy for adults and children. Especially for college students like myself.

WORLD CLASS BJJ. As an athletic guy in my 20s, I was immediately humbled by several of Pittmans red bar black belt students. Smaller, older, slower, it didnt matter. These guys had me gasping for air or wondering what just happened, as they calmly defended my attacks and maneuvered from arm locks to chokes etc...Going on two years of training, I now see the power in these techniques. Professor Pittman is the real deal. He builds students upon the fundamental techniques. By the time his students reach red bar, there is no situation that has not been trained and discussed in detail. Equally as impressive is the kind and courteous atmosphere of his academy.Professor Pittmans training history speaks for itself, leaving me with only one question. As an MMA fan jiu jitsu has always been something I wanted to learn, I was gifted a free month of training at this academy and haven’t missed a class since. It’s a positive environment with a friendly and kind staff, I’ve even rolled(sparred) with students at other schools and the techniques I’ve learned translated perfectly to those situations. I’m glad I took the opportunity to try out the academy and encourage others to do the same!

Gym owner has an inflated ego. The prices are high and they pressure you into purchasing right after the introduction. Pittman imposes his religious views on students. Could be good for kids that need a solid background in self defense but would recommend looking elsewhere

My family and I joined Pittmans Academy around September and enjoyed attending the classes together. While I have not been able to make classes due to work, my husband and son continue to go. They look forward to going and enjoy the way Professor Pittman teaches and interacts with the class. Its been a great family experience.

Enrolled my boys in the Pittman Academy for Martial Arts. They are enjoying the training and having a great time. They cant wait to go each day. Mr. Pittman has been very encouraging to them and they seem to be learning a lot. They go several times per week and always come away with exciting things to tell me about what theyve learned. They are having fun and have met some very nice students that have helped them with the techniques, as well. Its a great atmosphere and I appreciate the high level of respect and honor that is shown by the staff and being taught by all the leaders.

I am very impressed with Professor Pittman’s dedication to his students and the overall experience with the academy. I’ve trained and visited numerous gyms over 3 years and have never seen a gym that emphasized core values, becoming a leader, and applying those lessons learned outside the gym. The attitude of the students is all about sharing and continuous improvement. The staff are very welcoming and the number of black belts assisting classes speaks to the value they have gained through this academy. This is a serious place to train for serious people.

My family and I have been training at the Pittman Martial Arts Academy for over a year. Its been a fantastic experience, and I expect well all continue training up to Black Belts. Mr. Pittman, Mr. Bates and Ms. Alan have done a great job training all of us. I appreciate the safety, expertise and no-nonsense instruction of all of the instructors.My children range in age from six to twenty. At this point were orange belts which is among the lower ranked belts. But I would say for myself and my older teenagers that, against someone on the street where self-defense is called for, were all more than capable of handling such a situation.And finally, Id like to give a word of appreciation to the black belts that come into spar. Theyve helped me improve my grappling, and always been willing to teach me how to be better at Jujitsu, and its much appreciated.

My family and I have been attending this Academy for over a year now. From ages 20 to 3, all of our children participate in the classes. We love Pittmans Academy. Our children started when they were 5 and 3, they are now 7 and 5. This has been good for their self control and social interactions. It is exciting when our children tell us how do do the moves and why we need to do them a specific way. I know they are absorbing the information, even if it seems like it is over their heads at the time. Advice for new members: get there a little early, the parking lot fills up fast. And enjoy!

I signed and payed for my son all way to orange belt. They talked me into the 3rd degree black belt program till he was 16. I am on disability and cant no longer afford it due to the high possibility that I may loose my house. He flat out told me I CAN NOT back out of the contract that i have to pay for it. Which is like 7k till my son is 16yrs old. Theres no loop holes nothing by what he said. So now we will be getting a lawyer involved. Theres always a way to get out of a contract. Being a penalty or whatever but he keeps insisting there isnt.

Professor Pittman is the best at his discipline and so full of encouragement, very simple down to earth person. I have learned a lot since being with the Pittman program for a month and half and know that as time goes on and continue showing up, I will only get better. Professor Pittman teaches from the heart on the mat and after class, giving us lifes lessons information with the student body giving positive feed back from young to old. I would recommend anyone to give it a try if not for your health at least to learn to defend yourself physically. Mr. Pittmans Jui-Jitsu Academy for Brazilan Jiu-Jitsu is for me and others in my family a way to relive stress. When you first come in its very intimidating to see people doing very complex techniques and even after doing it for a year i still feel stressed about learning the technique that Mr. Pittman or any of the other instructor will be teaching when i come in. But after getting dressed, saying the esprit de corp and stretching i think in my head: lets do this. it is very easy to release your stress when you are rolling on the mat and not having to think about the outside world and then the sparring really gets your adrenaline running. Besides Mr. Pittman (and the other instructors) teaching Jiu-Jitsu, they also teach discipline, how to give 100%, not to give up and so much more. I will admit that starting out i do not want to go to Jiu-Jitsu, i would rather lay around and play video games like any other teenager. Only thing is if I chose to not go once i might stop coming at all. I started Pittmans Academy with my daughter in mind so she could build her confidence. When I went for our class to see if she would like it I soon figured out that this was also something I needed as I too had struggled with confidence issues, but I decided the whole family should be involved. Im still in the white belt stage, but I have a black stripe and I am so proud of myself for stepping out of the box. I have learned since the beginning that showing up is the hardest part and it starts with getting out of your own head. To be a part of something great isnt about doing it alone, but with great instructors, students who have been there for years, and new students like me learning together. Ive trained at Pittmans for years, and love it! The training is top notch, the students are all helpful, and its a wonderful environment. All my kids, and my wife, train with me as well. The friendships I have made here will last a lifetime, and I would recommend Pittmans to anyone wanting to start martial arts.

The coaches and instructors under pitman are absolutely top notch most of the people here are really great students and all my biggest issues with this dojo is they treat it like a Time Share business. The sales personel will bait you to coming in for trail classes however immediately at end of firstclass they pressure you into enrolling for classes. i ended up paying for a full year upfront (1500.00 plus) and only went for 3 months mostly due to scheduling conflicts. Also came from 7 years in a Tae Kwon Do dojo in another city where the main instructor was not walking around beating his chest like Main Instructor Pittman does. If you come here take his coaches classes as they dont make you listen to life lessons at the end of each of his sessions.

My 14 year old son trains with these guys and I am really impressed with the attitude change Ive seen in the few months we been there. All of the staff at Pittmans academy are friendly and courteous and eager to help in whatever way they can. I love the positive atmosphere and talks at the end of the session!

When I was a kid I learned to fight throwing kicks and punches, which can get very ugly and messy. That kind of fighting could ruin a persons good name and testimony. I joined Pittmans Academy being a bit sceptical of Jiu Jitsu, thinking that it was mainly for wrestlers. But by the third lesson I was convinced that everyone should know this style of fighting. You can finish a fight very quickly and clean using the techniques that are taught by Mr. Pittman and his instructors who are under him. I am grateful for their time and respect that they give to their community.

We have been taking our son here for several years now. We feel like it has really helped him in all aspects of him growing up. Helping with confidence, respect, attention to details, conflict, frustration, and working towards a goal, just to name a few of the things that we see coming out of the academy. Professor Pittman pours his heart into these lessons and Im very glad we have someone as talented as him working with our son.

My two children started Jiu Jitsu with Mr. Pittman and his staff a few months ago. Ms. Allen is implementing a curriculum developmentally appropriate for children 7 years old and younger. At first my kids were timid and uncertain, but within just a few months, they have already gained confidence and respect. Additionally, I enjoy the time we get to spend bonding at home when we practice as a family! He and his staff are very supportive and positive and develop a relationship with each student to help set and meet personal goals.

Me and ex wife enrolled my 10 year old son to this program to show discipline following instruction,working with as team work, trying out something different to enjoy and making new friends.....everything was the opposite of what expected disrespectful and rude to kids that ask questions gets offended then stoops to kids level in arguing instead of taking question like an adult and explaining with ease that why he makes the big bucks from every member then me as a parent brought that up to him he new he was wrong because a lot of parents present there watching there kids were disappointed with Mr.pittmans actions got upset with me and said is giving my money back and he decides disenroll my son from the program in front of students and parents on the Matt while in middle of lessons instead of admitting he is wrong please do not enroll your young kids in this acadamy waste of time program Klay Pittman is always right and everyone is wrong attitude is no good teaching new students to be afraid to ask questions in learning something new to them my son hated going and felt scared to ask questions and saw for myself and heard the reason why the issue was the owner and instructor .....Klay Pittman stick in teaching adults you dont have patience to teach youth read it again Mr.Pittman to soak that in God bless....in response to interrupting your class as a parent defending my son from an adult acting like a kid himself thats the reason we set an appointment at 10 am the next day to get the issue resolved at your office did not speak one thing of the incident because admit your wrong and man up to your mistakes Mr.Pittman and act professional you act like a fool on the way you talk to the youth you just gave some of the money back and you made the decision on your own removing my son from the program which should be made by the people enrolled get your stuff together sir specially dealing with other families kids profit making person

I was very disappointed with this academy. I took my son there thinking it was going to be something good for him but it turned out to be the opposite. At first the staff were very nice and polite to us. We were really excited to start but then once we signed the contract everything went down hill from there. They were so rude to us and acted like they didnt have time to talk to us or answer my sons questions. My son loves to learn new things so he is always wanting to ask questions but professor Pittman would always act like his questions were not important. That made my son feel bad. I took him there so that he can learn respect and discipline, but how could he learn that if the staff there doesnt even know about discipline and respect themselves. They dont do this for the kids they do it for the money. To me its a total waist of money because they dont take the time to show them properly. Sometimes my son was confused on the techniques and the staff did not bother with helping him. They went and helped other kids that new a little more. My son did not like going there because they always made him feel like he was no good for Ji Jitsu, but my ex husband and I would lift his confidence and wanted him to finish because we want to teach our son that if he starts something he needs to at least try to finish. We did try to finish because we paid a lot of money for him to go there even though he didnt learn much and the staff doesnt do a good job in teaching it but when professor Pittman is questioned by my sons dad in why he didnt want to answer his questions he decides to kick my son out of his program. I do have to say he did give me back some of the money for the classes that he still needed. I just wanted to share our experience so please becareful if you do decide to take your kids here. I wish someone would of given me a heads up that this place only like to make money and not there to teach kids the real purpose of Ji Jitsu and that is self defense. Excuse my son does not ask inappropriate questions. He is a smart and respectful kid. You are offending me and my son. If you had problems with my son or my family why didnt you bring this up before? Why is this the first time I am hearing this. You know my son is a good kid he does have a learning disability and we discussed with with you at the very beginning and you were ok with this and now you want to come an offend him like that. What kind of person are you? So you think kids with a learning disability ask to many questions you might want to say that at the beginning that you dont take kids with challenges because you can handle the extra time it takes to teach them. That just shows you are not in it for the kind act of showing people self defense. I am so hurt by you right now by discriminating my son due to his disability.

I think its very important to know how to defend ones self, to know how to respond effectively in a compromised situation, and Jiu-Jitsu is an excellent choice to acquire such skills. But what I love most about training at Pittmans is the interest in developing the whole person. Its not just physical training, not just learning new moves or endless sparring. Pittman uses the training to teach about interacting with humanity, to show what leadership is, to develop confidence in ones self worth and in the value of kindness and persistence. Its why I have put money aside for my daughter to train at Pittmans, and why I believe she will find it one of the most rewarding experiences of her life, just as I have.

My daughter well be attending middle school soon and wanted her to learn how to defend herself. Shes been coming to Pittmans for over a year now and she has come so far. Her fitness has improved and as well as her social skills. Her confidence is up and am very proud of her progress. The teaching and direction she gets from everyone at Pittmans is A1. I have been a student and competitor in the Martial Arts for nearly 30 years. I enrolled at Pittmans Academy in 2012 in order to learn the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I immediately found a new home with great instructors and team mates. In 2015, I was given the opportunity to live and work in my wifes home nation of China where I spent 2 years teaching English and Psychology at a large University. During that time, I had an once in a lifetime opportunity to travel and interact with Martial Artists throughout Asian including Thailand, Southern China, Northern China, Mongolian, Korea and Japan. I returned with an even greater appreciation for the quality of instruction and training offered at Pittmans Academy. I can confidently say Pittmans Academy is truly a world class school of Martial Arts and I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in any aspect of Martial Arts training!

Many BJJ gyms can be harsh; Pittmans has an encouraging and friendly atmosphere. There are other good Jiu Jitsu gyms in the area, so try those out. Pittman accadamy is a good place to learn bjj for self defense and conditioning

I took my children for a free trail lesson and decided to sign up. Two days later I call twice, once I talked to a women and second was a VM asking what process I needed to proceed with to cancel membership(change of heart). I continued to call back 12 TIMES in the following three months! My children never attended a class other than the initial trial class. I was continually charged for a membership that we did not want! I had to change all my banking information to stop future payments. Till this day I have yet to receive a call back or any feedback. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS GYM TO ANY FAMILY! We have settled in at United Marital Arts which has been amazing! Definitely a learning process!

Do not take your child here! A total waste of money. The owner, Professor Pittman cusses and talks about how horrible his mother was to him and what names she called him. He is very unprofessional and inconsiderate of the little ears in his classroom. The classes are large and my son learned nothing. Instead of learning, respect and self-discipline my 4 year old came homeWith new cuss words and names to call people.

Excellent place to train Hi level jiu jitsu and self defense. Great group of upper belts always willing to share their knowledge.

Pittmans’s Jiu-Jitsu Academy does a great job of not only teaching how to “win” a fight but also what it means to win and why we fight. My 6 year old has been attending for about a year and a half and I love the skills and fitness he’s developed as well as the reinforcement of good values in every lesson.

This guy just wants your money. Do your research and visit other gyms before committing. There are other very good gyms and instructors in Lubbocj.
