Everyones so nice & patient. Im trying all the classes
The best place in West Texas for tactical defense and martial arts- for all ages! Walt is an amazing instructor who is calm, but firm with his training, and has taught myself, my kids, and my wife. He also has multiple national and world titles to his name, as well as instructing many law enforcement officers, far and near.
I started going here for the pole classes. Had such a great time! Very nice people and they definitely make it a good time while you are learning. I have a friend that comes for the silks classes and she loves it. Definitely making this a habit to come every Wednesday or Monday for the pole classes.
I came to Artfit not knowing what to expect. I had just moved to Lubbock. I was dealing with a lot of stress, emotionally worn out and unhappy with how I looked. In an effort to tackle at least one of these issues I decided to go to a conventional gym. Soon found out that I dont know anything about using weights or how to approach cardio training. I decided to look for classes so there would be some guidance and structure to my workout. I saw Artfit offered pole. The first class was free so I thought, Why not? I have to say, I am so glad I did. Artfit offers quality instruction in a variety of classes that allows you to develop strength and grace all in a safe and fun way. I have experienced a transformation and learned things I didnt expect. I have become stronger physically, learned how to be patient with myself and my progress, gained new levels of confidence and have a clearer mind. I have even started to grow as a dancer, exploring musicality and femininity with bellydance. All I had to do was show up consistently. Beyond that Walt, Cheryl and Olivia have embraced me like family. They have built a community of people that respect and care for each other. In every class we push each other to be better and congratulate each other on our milestones. This place is invaluable. If you have even a little bit of curiosity in any of the classes offered or are just looking for a different workout experience give Artfit a try.
I only have the best to say about ArtFit. I began my time at ArtFit in Lubbock as a kinesiology intern in 2015-16. Little did I know at the time, how much of an impact they would have on my future success. Cheryl was crucial in mentoring me and providing me with as many opportunities as she could provide. Walt gave me the courage and discipline that I so desperately needed. ArtFit offers Lubbock a variety of classes and skills that are unmatched and hard to find in west Texas. I can honestly say, I would not be where I am now if it were not for the caring nature of the Busheys. Whether your interests are in pole, aerial silks, or combat sports- ArtFit will cater to those needs and help you succeed. 5/5 through and through.
Great instructors who really care about transferring an in-depth knowledge to their students, and make it fun at the same time. Offers a broad selection of unique skills that are artful as well as rigorous. Excellent for beginners and advanced alike, they will take you under their wing. Family run with a family feel. Highly recommend it.
If you are interested in martial arts or dance this place is worth a sincere look. I cant speak personally for the dance. The martial arts are superb! Come in and observe or give a class a try. Visit with Walt for a few minutes. His qualifications are unmatched. In three months I have learned a massive amount of techniques. I am blown away by the quality of the material and I enjoy the community at the school. I could rave more about my experience but the best thing you could do is stop by and see for yourself.
Have really enjoyed my Belly Dance class with Carla there! Wish it was a big bigger overall, esp when in routine practice. Look forward to seeing renovations done.
I have been taking classes at ArtFit for over a year, and its the best gift Ive ever given myself! I have gotten so much stronger and confident in what my body can do! Dont worry if you think you dont have any upper body strength or coordination, thats why you go to class! I recommend the pole fitness and aerial silks class to ANYONE, regardless of shape/size/fitness level!
The most fun you will ever have while still exercising. These instructors are kind, fun, and very knowledgeable. I love learning new skills, and there are so many great and challenging classes to choose from. The instructors are patient, encouraging, and always put the safety of their students first. I highly recommend ARTFIT to everyone, regardless of your strength or experience you will learn lots, and feel great about yourself.
I do belly dance and burlesque here. The instructors are all super great, supportive, and very body positive. Im always comfortable there and I LOVE the dance. Plus its a great way to gain core strength and endurance, along with a great cardio exercise. I cannot recommend this studio more.
I have been taking Aerial Silks lessons at Artfit for over a year now and I highly recommend Artfit to anyone that would like a challenge. Strength and experience are not required to take a class. Every class starts with conditioning to help strengthen the body and prepare students for harder moves and more difficult skills. My instructor, Cheryl, is very encouraging while at the same time pushing me to succeed to the next level. When I accomplish a move or skill that I have been working hard to achieve, Cheryl will cheer for me. Over the last year, I have gained so much strength and confidence and I owe my success to Cheryl because she believed in me and helped me overcome my fears and self-imposed limitations. Thank you, Cheryl! I couldn’t have come this far without your help!!!
I love taking classes at Art Fit. Cheryl Bushey is an amazing teacher. Ive taken Belly Dancing, Pole Dancing, and Ariel Silks. Her dance classes are a great way to work out while having fun at the same time. She also teaches Burlesque, Flexibility, Boot Camp, and does personal training. Art Fit also offers kids karate, martial arts, karate, and japanese swordsmanship. There is definitely a class for everyone there!
I really enjoy the belly dancing classes. You will get a good workout as well as learning new skills.
Artfit is a great place to work out. The variety of classes offered makes it a one-of-a-kind place in Lubbock. It is easy to walk by the different classes and wonder what you would like to try next. The instructors have amazing skills and are ready to help with anything you need, from teaching technical detail to helping you push past self-imposed limits. The community at Artfit is very supportive and welcoming regardless of dance experience or fitness goals.
I went here for the first time with a friend. I took an intro silks class which was fun and something I’d never done before, so I bought a 4 class pass. My first class was a lyra class, which I have done before at another studio. The instructor ruined my day. First she argued with me about whether or not I registered correctly, knowing full well I was new and never used their app before. I don’t appreciate her calling me sweetheart in the condescending manner that she did. (She also called another woman a biatch, maybe he woman was ok with it, but it was not very nice.) The Lyra class was mostly conditioning. When it came to poses, she had my friend and I doing very basic things while the rest of the class was working on other poses that we were already comfortable doing. She was too busy focusing on them to give us any more direction. At the end of the class, she showed all of us a twisty maneuver to try for the first time, and when I tried it and did it, she told me to please get down and only work on what she told me to because she wanted to know exactly where I was. It was super discouraging. I get maybe being concerned about safety, but she could have offered to let me try it again while spotting me. She could have asked us if we were comfortable trying some of the things the rest of the class was doing. She could have been more encouraging. Nobody really cheers each other on here, which makes for a not very fun atmosphere. I normally have a blast And feel empowered when I leave an aerial class and this girl just completely ruined it for me. I wish I didn’t have 3 more classes to take because I would like to not come back.
ArtFit is a place you can learn many skills ranging from aerial moves to bellydancing, pole fitness and self-defense. The kids Karate classes are also excellent. All classes are taught by very experienced professionals who have decades of experience in their respective fields, and they always make you feel welcome. This is a place to push your boundaries while being in a safe and very fun environment. The community for women here is unmatched, as is everything they offer the Lubbock area, all in one place!
I highly recommend Artfit. It is a really fun, unique place. No matter what package you purchase, you can try any class you want with it- and there are MANY options. You never get bored working out there which helps you stick to your fitness goals.I dont normally post reviews but I saw one from Becky that is totally different than my experiences there. Ive been in the class shes talking about- with the same instructor and younger student. The student is a really cool kid and has a hilarious dry sense of humor. Her and Olivia have known each other for a long time, from what Ive gathered, and do have a sister-like bond, so they both joke around with each other in a mutually-respectful manner. As for the e-cig, Ive never seen her use one and Im there all the time. (Im not saying shes lying, just that I dont want people to assume it happens all of the time because I can tell you or a fact it doesnt). I do agree with Becky though that the dogs are really sweet! The owners of Artfit have several rescue dogs that they bring with them. Such great people! I have a medical condition that restricts my hand movement and strength and Olivia is always coming up with new ways to help me perform silks with my limitations.Bottom line- Artfit is a really unique workout and performance studio with a quality you cant find anywhere else.
I am a bigger girl, so for me trying anything new, is a lot of stress. Walking into ArtFit, was overwhelming, however comforting at the same time. I started with the Belly dancing class many, many moons ago, I have never looked back, Cheryl and the whole team will push you until you reach whatever goal you have set for yourself. True, some time are more stressful then others, I have discover that there will pain, and a learning process, and maybe a few tears, however everyone is will to lift you up and hold until you are ready to move on. Truth be told, seeing the dogs, is helpful, the dogs are very well trained, and will most time sleep though whatever class they are in. You must scratch a belly here and there, and sometime one will find there way into your lap. Once you have enter the door of ArtFit, your now family, most families, have brother sister relationships, so sometimes it seem that there is to much picking or goofing off going on, however you are still continuing to learn. Learning should be fun and light, as difficult as that is to hear some dont understand that. You should try a class, because they offer the first class free, and truthfully you will gain so much than, whatever you though you might. Time will tell, if ArtFit isnt the right studio for you, then you have lost nothing, but an hour, however if they are you will have a lot of people fighting for you and with you.
I love everything about ArtFit. The instructors are awesome and I like the variety of classes offered. I have tried many of them (defense tactics, burlesque, pole, aerial, and bellydance). Each class offered a new and exciting experience for me. Bellydance and pole have been my favorites! love coming here and feeling like I am amongst friends and getting a great workout in.
I tried out the silks beginner class because it looked interesting to try. when I got there there were only three people in the class and they knew I was trying it out for the first time. Another instructor, I think Cheryl, seemed nice and checked me in, and then there were the sweetest dogs there. I said I have never done silks yoga and that I havent really worked out either in a while, but yet Olivia, my instructor spoke down to me in a very condescending manner, which I did not appreciate. There are coaches and instructors who are supposed to give advice and help you, I get that, but Olivia was being condescending. It was like she had an angry chip on her shoulder about something. mind you she also was smoking an e-cigarette during the class, which come on--can it not wait? Olivia also seemed to treat this other younger girl there in a condescending manner like a big sister picking on a little sister-like she kinda liked her but then didnt really respect her. i loved the dogs and the other instructor seemed nice, but Olivia just had a very weird negative vibe and was disrespectful and condescending that i did not appreciate, so much that i felt the need to share and type this and will never go back there so long as they keep around an instructor who is condescending, Olivia.
One of the most unique aspects of ArtFit is that the instructors are both talented artists and resourceful authorities within their field. Whether it is bellydancing, burlesque, pole, martial arts, or self-defense, ArtFit offers an opportunity for you to learn and mingle with individuals who love what they do and are incredibly passionate about it.One of the things I respect and cherish about ArtFit is that it offers me an opportunity to relax and have fun within an amazingly supportive and diverse community of women, and for those times when I want to push the envelope, learn more, really train my mind and body like a professional performer, the ArtFit instructors are great mentors. It is truly a place for everyone.
I have lots of experience in the martial arts having practiced and taught for years. I was looking for a place for my 8 year old son to learn karate and visited nearly every dojo in Lubbock before trying out Sensei Busheys class. We have been very impressed. Sensei Bushey is patient with the children but also pushes them and expects them to push themselves. Weve had our son taking classes there for about a year and a half now and he has benefited enormously. Most recently, he earned his green belt. Unlike many classes that just pay lip service to learning the techniques, moves and forms before handing out a belt to the child only to prevent tears, this belt test was real. My son actually had to know the stuff. If he didnt Im confident he would not have passed.I would recommend the karate class to any parent who is thinking of signing their child up. The child will be challenged but will also be treated as a human being. They get to know the kids here and give them individualized instruction.
My son has been at ArtFit for a few years now. His confidence level has gone through the roof. Sensei Bushey has taught him so much more than just karate. The respect he has for others is amazing. Sensei Bushey is a great ally to have on your side. My son wants him to know all about his life. They talk about school, friends and video games, but through the friendship they have, my son has learned you have to work hard for what you want. He has to earn his next belt by know and retaining the information he has been taught. If you are looking for a forever home for fitness or karate, ArtFit is the place. This whole family is amazing. You can learn to kick butt or have you butt kicked in a fitness class.
