My daughters first class. She was very nervous before going in. After just a few minutes in, I could tell that she loved it. The instructors are very professional and patient.

The team at NOCO are what drives this academy above others....I highly recommend the school but only because of the professionalism and dedication of the instructors because of the professionalism of the students. As a new student coming into any martial arts, every day can be nerve-racking. The students at this Academy make you feel very comfortable, instructors make sure to match you with a good fit in order to have the best experience. Communication with the instructors, and owner is incredibly easy. A family atmosphere is brought to every interaction. And you will leave feeling just as educated as the 10 year student.The school itself doesn’t look like much, (an academy inside another business),...but once you step inside to a clean well-maintained atmosphere it will change your perspective. The mats are sanitized before every class, and are in great shape. Plenty of seating and storage for bags and water bottles. Uniforms are very nice, stickers, and bags...plenty to choose from in the pro shop.In short I would recommend this experience to anyone. Make sure you find a place like this that is comfortable, professional, and fun!

Odds are you are looking through the reviews because you are on the fence. Maybe you have no martial arts experience or feel like you arent in good enough shape. Maybe you have prior injuries or are nervous about trying something new. I finally did and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Matt and Troy have built a wonderful family here and make sure that you are comfortable no matter what level of fitness/martial arts experience you have. I train at my home town club in Nebraska. However Im in Colorado often visiting family. Im currently a blue belt with about 3.5 years of experience. I made it a goal this summer to attend classes at various schools around NoCo.I contacted Matt one night just seeing if I could jump in on the following morning 11am class. He was very welcoming on the phone and I looked forward to attending .I arrived a little ahead of time and met Matt and filled out paperwork. He then showed me around the facilities, which were very clean and had good space. Morning classes from my experience are smaller, which I tend to like. I believe we had around 10 students. Which actually was larger than I expected.The class was great. Matt did a phenomenal job teaching technique and breaking down the whys of them. He allowed ample time to drill each technique before moving on, which was great. All students were very nice and welcoming. And overall it was a great experience with solid instruction. I was really concerned about starting a martial art with no experience with sports or anything like that before, especially since I had heard about people getting hurt in these things. All of the instructors drill safety extensively and have a great knack for keeping people of all levels learning and engaged. Each session has been really fun and I learn something new every week!

First I would like to say this is an amazing place. While from an outside perspective the Academy may seem not much more than a 20x10 mat.The truly beautiful thing about this place is the people there. The Instructors display every attribute you want in excellent teachers by challenging you to push your limits and try new things while forging a personal relationship with you.So come try something new, something strange or something youve been wanting to try for a while, well be waiting for you!

This place is amazing. The instructors are very open to questions and are willing to help out after class if something isnt sticking. Also the other students are amazing. Everyone takes care of everybody and you I havent experienced any mat bullies yet in the several months Ive been going.

Ive been attending this academy for about a month now and I have no combat sport experience whatsoever. I was hesitant to try Jiu Jitsu for fear of getting my arms ripped off, but they have cultivated a very welcoming and safe atmosphere for beginners. They split time evenly between the advanced students and the beginning students very well and they have not ever left me feeling left behind. Im very happy with my choice to join this academy and look forward to continuing to learn.

NoCo is a great place to train! Super intelligent and detailed instructors. I started here with no experience and even on day 1 they threw me right into the mix and made me feel apart of the group. Clean mats every day. Solid partners who train there as well who really care about others growth.

I found this location on Google, super glad I did. I expected to walk in and get throttled a bunch until I got better. Not the case. Matt, Troy and crew take a seasoned, fun and serious approach to the practice. They are skilled, instructive and will get hands on with you. They apply their teaching to real life and the sport. I was hooked after the very first session and months in I’m still hooked. Don’t be fooled, you will get a run for your money as you push the edges but at the same time their philosophy allows you to train at any age or skill level. I initially was told about this place nearly 2 years ago, by my neighbor. He would mention how good of a work out it was, how fun it was, and how much he learned from each class. But, you know, I was always too busy with life, and always pushed it off. Well, I finally had a good reason to check it out and join. I was going to a beach vacation, and after staying inside for the entirety of 2020, I was, let just say, pretty soft.Enter NoCo JiuJitsu.Going to the first few classes, I had absolutely NO IDEA what I was getting myself into, or that I would enjoy it as much as I do, but let me tell you, its a blast! I was able to shed 10lbs (and counting), meet some great people, and start my journey. Matt and Troy have created a very welcoming atmosphere for all shapes, sizes, and skill levels. If youre on the fence about trying, just remember that we all had to go to the first awkward class where we didnt know anyone or anything. This is a premier school for Jujitsu & Judo. Excellent location for beginners or those who have trained for years. Top of the line instructors who are passionate about teaching jujitsu. The other students have been excellent to work with as well, everyone is friendly and it really is a fun environment. Once you try your first class you will be hooked.

I like that we do fun stuff a lot and that we get to play games a lot. I also like that we get to learn different moves very often.

I cannot say enough good things about NoCo Jiu Juitsu. My 9 year old attends class there and loves it. They are amazing. Dont be afraid that at any age your child will be behind, they will bring the class to a level that they can quickly catch up. The instructors are great and patient with all the kids, no matter their level or ability. My daughter has learned so much, the focus is on self defense, anti bullying and how to hopefully avoid a fight, if possible.

Going on 8 years of training, I have been to all types of schools, to include ones that only see you as a number or dont care if you get hurt. This is NOT one of those schools. My family has been training at Northern Colorado Jiu Jitsu since about the time it opened and we have loved it. My kids have trained at 3 other dojos and like this one the best for several reasons. The training is focused on self defense as well as the sport of Jiu Jitsu. I started training about 6 months ago and love to have training that can be used right away. Matt and Troy spend part of each lesson teaching techniques that can be used if I ever need to protect myself or my family. They are expert teachers and go out of their way to make new students feel welcome. The other students are friendly and do enjoy helping each other improve.

WOW!! Never in my life did I ever think I could learn jiu jitsu. You see I am not a young person - turn 60 this year. I also have some physical limitations. The instructors Troy and Matt show me how to adapt moves so I can have success in class. I really love the self defense aspect of classes, but I am challenged - in a good way - to apply what I am taught. Open mat on Saturdays is the bomb. You get the opportunity to practice what you have learned in class. They have created a family in this dojo and all who pass through their doors are welcome. I was nervous before my first class, but felt comfortable right away. Matt was very thorough and began with teaching me simple defense moves and advanced from there. I love the re-teaching of previously learned skills at each class. Troy is very patient and an excellent teacher! Matt and Troy complement each other very well. Matt and Troy have many years of experience in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I have train under their guidance for several years now and I can say the welcome and friendly training environment is awesome. I especially like that not only do they train for sport BJJ they also have a very focused self defense aspect as well. First responders take note! Over the past 15 years I have studied and instructed multiple different arrest control/self defense systems, including Krav Maga, KOGA, PPCT, and FBI just to name a few. I have only been training Jiu Jitsu with Matt and Troy for about a year and half now but I can say, without reservation, that I am significantly more confident and capable when it comes to defending myself on the street or effecting an arrest of a physically resisting suspect. There are many good Jiu Jitsu schools in the area, but the passion and dedication that Matt and Troy both bring to teaching their students a practical and functional martial art that absolutely translates into a real world street application can not be matched!

I was always hesitant to try jiu jitsu because of past teaching practices I had seen at other gyms that made me uncomfortable and wary. Matt and Troy create an environment that makes it comfortable as a woman to learn this martial art from a man.
