I worked with David Meek when I was in the process of buying my first home. Being a veteran with a high school diploma, I had no idea what buying a house meant. David sat down with me and answered all my questions. A normal 30min consultation took us about 2 hours. I had questions about the entire process, what each number meant and where it came from, and what I needed to do to get from renting an apartment to owning a home. David explained everything thoroughly and made sure I understood what he was saying. I picked Davids brain to the point where he would say This part doesnt really involve the buyer but I will explain it if you want me to and thats how I turned a 30min consultation into a 2 hour consultation. Sorry David!David was quick and responsive at all hours of the day and walked me through each step as we went through the home buying process. I gave David some hurdles during the process but he cleared them all just fine. He was dedicated to getting me to closing day. I had a very strange experience. I met with Nick to get preapproved and immediately felt comfortable with moving forward with him. He kept in touch every week and offered advice. However once I made the offer on the house and went to sign paperwork it was as if I was a burden. Throughout our meeting Nick would interrupt our conversation to constantly look at his phone that was on vibrate and would make remarks on how frustrated he was it kept going off. The numbers were confusing so I asked questions which he visibly got frustrated about and told me to trust him, which I had up to that point but with important paperwork I wanted to understand why the numbers weren’t making since. He had another appointment and said he would call me later. I immediately called my real estate agent and updated her. She reached out to Nick to get the paperwork that same day, and told him that she would like to see it and try to explain it to me. Nick flat out told her no. She explained that they were in the same team and requested several more times, a week later she finally got it. I did not receive a copy of what I signed, I had to request it from his assistant via email. I hadn’t heard back from Nick at all and it made me very uncomfortable. It was so strange and it made me feel like he was hiding something or trying to get something past me. I ended up scrambling and finding a new mortgage person who was quick and able to give me a 1.25% lower mortgage rate.If you choose to go with Benchmark, ask questions and be sure you fully understand the numbers before moving forward with them.
