Weve been to every restaurant in town repeatedly and our go-to is Empire, especially for lunch and happy hour. The food is excellent, the prices reasonable, and there is no better happy hour cocktail around. During the height of the pandemic Empire was the only restaurant contact tracing, which was really encouraging for eating out during a scary time. However, they never had to call anyone since they followed such good cleaning protocols etc. HIGHLY recommend if youre in Louisville.
Came in for dinner. Much larger menu than expected. The calamari salad and deviled eggs were a delicious start. Then we had the reuben (excellent) and the chicken sandwich (good). Will go back to try some other options. Had a great time.
Had a very nice dining experience dining outside 9/22/21. Good excellent service.
Kerrie took such great care of us today. Great food, great setting, great service. What a treat!
I dont remember the last meal out where the food was so beautiful and delicious and our server Kerrie was exceptional!!
Great food, a staff thats awesome and classy lounge ambience. Great for conversation and relaxing with friends or family.
Pretty innovative meals. Mostly spins on classics, which can go terribly wrong. Here, they nail it.
A typical Diner with the usual greasy food. The fried chicken sandwich is one of their best creation. The Reuben not so much (didnt have much of corned beef) and were not as fresh either. If you need to eat diner food by all means...but not for me.
This adorable restaurant on a cute street of historic restaurants should have been better. Some of the dishes were tasty and well prepared, others weren’t. We had a Mezza board to start, which had good deviled eggs and other bits on it. Could have had some celery to go with the hummus, which quickly ran out of pita pieces to eat it with. I ate tapenade (also good) with my fork. The French Onion soup was pretty close to burnt dishwater with a surprisingly bland base, small strip of cheese, and what looked like a snippet of crumbly pumpernickel as the crouton. The hamburger was medium rare (good). The mussels were in a tomato broth and pretty good. The veggie pasta was zucchini noodles not pasta pasta and looked good. My friends enjoyed it. My half chicken was fried and normally comes covered in gravy. It was like a pot roast veggie collection around it: chunks of carrots and potatoes. Half of it was moist and tender and the other half was very dry. I had great fresh lemonade. The service started off great and then disappeared for a while. Everyone was nice but it was weird that it was so good and then we sat with an abundance of food plates and empty drink glasses for about 10 minutes. The check took a while as well. So basically get the burger, skip the chicken and soup.
The staff was SO accommodating. I had future order for 5 PM and plans changed. Called the day of and asked if I can pick up my order 3 hours early. They changed some things around and made it happen. Also amazing that they had the Valentines Day deal with semi cooked food that they included instructions with for proper heating at home. Entrees and apps were good. 4 stars for the deserts which were very average.
Nice casual. Good is good. Over the years its gotten a bit too sheshe... Still like it
Server was great and the food was excellent! Will go back for sure.
Food good. The rest of experience below avg
Food was ok. Service was pretty terrible, waitress forgot to put our drinks in twice. Shots we ordered never arrived, and, in spite of this, regularly interrupted our conversations with the intent to “hurry” the table. Will not be returning.
My experience here was disappointing. The food was not great (rueben sandwich and pasta with broccolli and butter sauce) and our drink orders were wrong. We ordered dessert 3 times. Yes, 3 times. Our server came back a while after our first dessert order to tell us they ran out, and then the same thing happened for our second dessert order. We got our 3rd choice dessert, and it was inedible. It tasted like burnt plastic or chemicals or something. The whole night was an incredibly odd experience. On top of it all, our server didnt comp us a single item. Not even the inedible dessert.
The food is delicious! I discovered them by following the smell of smoking hickory wood initially.
The Empire is my absolute favorite place to eat. I only have the chance to swing in here every couple of years on my visits to Colorado but I always make the trip and they never disappoint! This year was no exception, amazing food in a wonderful atmosphere. I will always make this a destination in my Colorado travels!
The service was slow - it seemed very disorganized. The food was not good (we got the burger and fried chicken sandwich).
Nice staff, great burger, top notch cocktails!
Good service and a nice meal. Enjoyed the black bean burger and fries as well as the fried pickles. Good draft beer choices. Relaxed environment.
The menu looked great but the execution was beyond subpar. Each part of our meal was accompanied by much disappointment. The drinks werent correct; the brussels sprouts sat in a bowl of oil; the reuben tasted like it was made with canned corned beef hash; the pasta was boring but probably the least disappointing portion of the meal.We were hoping dessert would raise our spirits, but ordered only to be later told they were out of stock; we ordered the next dessert only to be later told it was out of stock; finally, with success, we received the third dessert, a chocolate soufflé that tasted like some combination of burnt plastic and raw wet cat food.Im hoping this review will inspire your kitchen and wait staff to up the quality. I rarely, if ever, leave these kind of reviews, but it was just so disappointing.
Terrible service. After being seated and then waiting 10 minutes without water or any interaction, we had to ask for our waitress. She tried to blame the problem on someone else. She rarely stopped by, and acted like we were in her way. She knocked over my husband’s water glass, then took it away and never replaced it so he didn’t have water for the rest of his meal. I had to clean up the spilled water with my own napkin. She asked if I wanted to add chicken to my risotto but failed to mention it was an additional $7. For very little chicken! The food was all right but not worth the high prices. And definitely not worth the bad service experience.
Delicious food, great vibe, and amazing service.
Great dining experience. Food and service are outstanding.
Kari our server was superb! Good food and chill atmosphere ;)
Very inconstant. Used to like the flat steak until Empire must have hired a new cook. Extremely inconstant. Last time, the portion was far smaller than usual (and clearly the cook bossed the manager into having it his/her way,) today, I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt ordered a take out. This time the characteristic spicy sauce was not even present.Empire: no more! Would much rather order a pizza next door, they have been consistently good.
Just had the crispy chicken sandwich and I believe it was the best Ive ever had. Delicious.
Went for lunch, all covid procedures handled very well by the staff. The food was excellent and usual. I had the half club with soup and my guest had a philly cheesesteak with fries.
A seasonally appropriate menu with locally sourced foods, excellent staff and excellent indoor and outdoor seating options. We LOVED the grilled romain salad. Bonus, they take all customers temps seat appropriately for covid and collect information for contact tracing. Well done Empire, thank you for caring enough about your customers and community to do this. We will be back.
Empire has been around Louisville for a while now, but I believe it has changed ownership recently and the new ambiance is just a little off. I cant put my finger on it. Maybe its lights are brighter or maybe its how you walk into a big empty area where they used to have tables, or maybe they changed some of the art work. I am not sure but its just not as inviting as it used to be. Weve been several times in the past month and the food seems to be good. Just hope it can find the vibe it used to have.
The restraunt did not allow dining inside. The food we took out was very good. Has a bit of a Cajon flavor to it . Great comfort food.
We really enjoyed The Empire. I ordered the Grilled Pork Chop and my wife got the pan seared chicken. Both were extremely good. The rainbow chard that came with my pork could have used a little acid, but otherwise was very tasty. The root veggies that came with the chicken were also very good. The kiddos enjoyed what they ordered. Dessert was phenomenal. I got the caramel custard which may be my new favorite dessert. My wife got the funnel cake which was also very good. Service was prompt, and very courteous. Overall great place and one of my favorites since we moved to Boulder. Would absolutely recommend.
Good location and excellent wings
I’m impressed with this place. I would recommend giving this spot a try... 5 stars in my book!
Try the flap steak, its delicious!
I dont know why Empire isnt always busy? Food is good, fresh, and service is prompt. They have a good beer selection and wines are varied.
We have long loved the Empire since it opened. Cozy, friendly, attentive, good background music, always something good on the menu.
The owners and staff are a bunch of alcoholics.
Dinner reservations for 3, the hostess was preoccupied, but once she disengaged from her conversation with a co-worker she promptly seated us. Our server was there and ready to take our drink orders and to explain the specials, nicely done. The French onion soup was very water, but the moxie bread on it almost made up for its lack of depth of flavor. The meatballs are simply a wonderful dish, so very good. The paella was wonderful but could have had a bit more broth to it, otherwise perfectly executed. Overall a good dining experience.
One of my favorite restaurants in Boulder County. Very eclectic menu. Definitely sit at the bar and have a drink before your meal. Super friendly staff.
The food and drinks were delicious. Each thing was creative and yet still tasted like the comfort food I wanted. The service was a bit slow and it wasnt even that busy. We waited about 20 minutes for our drinks, but otherwise it was a great atmosphere and the staff was all very friendly.
Great food and service! They are doing a great job with COVID-19 as well.
Garlic potatoes are amazing!Great service, relaxed atmosphere.
All time favorite Louisville restaurant. Staff is amazing and the food is great!
$11 for 7oz of delirium is super overpriced
I have been dining at Empire for years, and the last meal I ate there, was arguably the best weve. Our server Terrance recommended the trout, and the pork chop AND the pork belly appetizers. The food was cooked perfectly, and the flavors while not overdone, were nothing short of inspired. If you are looking for a great meal in Louisville, come to Empire, talk to your server, and trust them their recommendations.
Wasnt a bad dining experience but nothing really stood out. My wife and her friend enjoyed the calamari salad and my steak was passable. We would go back again, I guess.
One of the best restaurants in Louisville. Only a few blocks from our house, we visit frequently as the Empire always delivers on a good meal and drinks. My only complaint would be the base burger is pretty plain and to add all of the fixings it gets pretty pricey. I really enjoy having the Smoked Brisket. Also there happy hour are much smaller than their non-happy hour variants so its only cheaper if you intend to have less.
Good food good service:)
Horrible service. Got my food before my drink. Didnt even get a second because I knew it wouldnt arrive before I left. Took 25 minutes to bring me my check. It was shocking that it was correct. The music across the street at Waterloo was nice though.
Never a bad experience. A broad spectrum bistro style menu, always prepared well. Great craft cocktails and consistently solid service. Always a go to in Louisville.
Great lunch on the patio and impressed with COVID-19 precautions.
Disclaimer, visited for lunch on a Wednesday. The food and service exceeds expectations. The menu allows for a fun chance to experiment.
The Reuben was amazing ... on of the best I’ve ever had. The service at the bar ... not so good. Nearly 10 minutes went by before the bartender acknowledged my existence at the bar. Then I was served an 11 ounce pint in a warm glass. He reported the beer in a cold glass which came out to 12 ounces.
I love the people who run this place and the excellent food and service they provide the public. From my own perspective inside the kitchen, the establishment is clean, classy, and very well taken care of. From the dining room, service could not possibly be better. All service staff works to make you feel extremely welcomed, and the food that comes out of the kitchen is top notch.
Had a fabulous meal and wine there last weekend. I LOVE the holiday decor they put up every year -- so festive and wonderful! Sierra was our server and she went out of her way to make sure we had the best wine pairing for our dishes. Thank you!
Horribly slow service, the server was snotty on top of that, no salt and pepper on the tables (who does that?!). Their reason for not having salt and pepper on the tables was the chef likes to season things himself but their black bean burger was horribly bland and the fries needed salt so the chef is not taking care of business. I had to complain and send it back which I almost never do. They give ketchup in tiny little cups--not enough and again, the service was very slow. Their gazpacho was very good and they did not charge me for the black bean burger, but that was the only high point of dinner tonight. Totally overpriced for what you get. Not going back.
I have always enjoyed the food at Empire Grill, but my most recent experience there was absolutely amazing and totally exceeded all my previous expectations. Last month I coordinated a surprise birthday celebration at Empire Grill for my fiance. One of the managers, Lexi, worked with me for several weeks on the menu plan, the timeline, and other logistics. We had about 30 people in attendance in our party and I must have heard at least 10 different compliments about the excellent service and how delicious the food was that night. It was a fantastic evening and a fabulous celebration to say the least, and I cannot thank the Empire Grill enough. We will definitely be back soon!
Simply delicious. Every meal Ive had there has been awesome. The menu is unique and exciting, with some classics in the mix. The cocktails are really damn good, and they have a pretty good beer selection. The staff in friendly, and its just an all-around awesome place to go.
Dined at the Empire Lounge last Sunday with my in-laws. It was very slow in the restaurant (Im guessing due to the Broncos loss) but our waitress was very pleasant and attentive. The rustic bread they start you with is absolutely delicious and we had an array of meals and salads brought to the table. Everything was very flavorful and impeccably plated. Ill have to try dessert next time. Top marks though.
This place is the perfect blend of sophistication with a hometown appeal. You can have elegant entries, such as oysters, or down home favorites like mac-n-cheese. Both will be delicious and dont worry - have them both at once. Its Louisville - you can have it your own way! The atmosphere is also very attractive while being comfortable. The restaurant is not to loud, which is always nice. There are enough corners tucked throughout that you can have an intimate meal, or sit right out front for a more social experience. I particularly like it in the summer when they open the window to the street so your party can sit half inside and half outside on the sidewalk. Its a unique environment with food that wont disappoint!
I think its gone a bit downhill at the Empire since they opened, but it still has its finer points. The location is perfect, and the interior is comfortable and nice. They also have some fantastic drinks. The food is a bit overpriced for the quality, though, and the recipes could all use a little bit of tweaking. But if youre in the mood for adult beverages somewhere hip and cool, this is your place.
My wife and I had a marvelous time here. The bartender is knowledgeable and helpful. Julian was so funny and made sure our table and surrounding was super clean. We will definitely come back here.
The lounge area was a perfect place for a bday happy hour. Staff was great!
Great atmosphere, friendly staff! The lobster pasta was just over salted but still delicious!
Great place for steak and other foods. Full bar. Thanks Magen for making our night special
Some disclosure: weve been regulars of Empire since it opened and it is our local go to and frankly one of the only possible foodie establishments in East Boulder County. Over the years weve gotten to know the owner Jim Cohen and his family, along with many of the staff. Jim has a solid history of top kitchen work, and he uses local ingredients and a gourmand touch. You can view menus online, so I wont delve into the dishes or the cuisine. However, some favorites on the current menu: calamari salad, brussels sprout salad, burger, duck with goat cheese enchiladas, pork meatballs with potato and greens. The patio and front window seating are nice to have in the summer, and the interior design is warm and dark, and welcoming. We sit at the bar, along with many other regular customers. Sure theres BBQ and Mexican and Italian and bars and such on Main Street. But when we want to have an adult foodie experience with a nice bottle of wine, and a creative menu, then were at Empire. You can still have a great burger and beer in your shorts and flip flops, it is far from stuffy and pretentious. The opposite: Jim is there to welcome you and resolve any issue that might arise. And Eric & Rob are at the bar to satisfy any liquid cravings. Recommended!
Love the calamari salad and mac n cheese. Have had a dry burger there and some portions, i.e. the shrimp n grits are small and overpriced $18. The chicken was pretty darn tasty. Being a Louisville resident, this place excited me at first & was our go to. Now we go for the calamari salad and a martini but only during happy hour. Most of the service weve had is good to great and weve had a couple of bad servers.
Went there around Christmas holiday for dinner and we absolutely loved it. The service and the food was wonderful. Try the red cabbage kimchi. Our pastas were divine; flavor, portions and their meatballs were so vibrant and unique. We will come back for more.Thank you for providing exceptional food in Louisville. Boulder is getting a run for their money.
Thoroughly enjoyed the happy hour drinks and food we had served at the bar. I peeked into the dining room in the back, and it looked very nice, so I am definitely making a note to come back for dinner in the future.
Wayyyyy Overpriced. Mixed drinks were of poor quality, and the food was nothing special. I spent less in rino for much better food.
I really like this place. They have a good happy hour, with cheap cocktails and yummy food. We also had a graduation dinner here, and they did a good job handling a group of 8. The food is very good, service is good, try the old fashioned at happy hour with mac and cheese.
This was once my favorite place....no longer. Even after their recent re-grand opening things still need improvement. Start with the bar tender. He is extremely rude and his customer service skills are horrible! I can not believe they kept him! The service at our table was slow (an hour to get our food) and our portion sizes were small. I voiced my concerns and they did not seem to care. Excuse after excuse! I will not be back after eating there frequently over the past 6 years.
Great happy hour... try the salmon fritters and tempura shrimp. Great food but a little noisy, you can sit outside when its warm.
My wife and I had her office Christmas party here and it was great! Food was very good, service was really friendly and very attentive, drinks were really well made. Id definitely go back for date night. For the appetizers, they served an incredible charcuterie plate. I could have eaten that all night. Then for dinner, the smoked brisket was flavorful but slightly dry. The risotto entry was delicious!! The side dishes included salads that were perfect and beautiful, a red beet dish that was extremely good, and fingerling potatoes that were perfectly salted and cooked to a nice crisp outer skin. Then for dessert, they brought out small donut hole-sized beignets that were amazing.
Came to this restaurant with very high expectations and unfortunately, none of them were met. The service was inattentive and I had to fetch salt and pepper for the table on my own which is inexcusable!Saw a price of $23.00 for fried chicken! Food prices are up but, $23.00 for fried Chicken? Once it was finally served the breading was falling off the warm, not hot chicken and it was bland with no seasoning whatsoever. THE highest priced and WORST fried chicken Ive ever eaten anywhere at any time! The Empire Lounge has seen the last of me...
Great service and contemporary American food. The bacon wrapped figs appetizer is on the small side but the abundant serving in the brussel sprout appetizers made up for it. The bison short rib main course was great.
The Empire has always had fantastic food and atmosphere the multiple times we have been there. It is one of my favorite places in old town Louisville.Beer and wine selections are usually very good, and you cant go wrong with anything on the menu.
Its a great place with a solid menu, chill staff and interesting cocktails. The local talent is there sometimes too :)
Excellent dining experience including the choices, the dishes, the drinks, the service, the value, and the atmosphere.
Empire is a frustrating place. Great location and space and friendly staff. However, the kitchen really underperforms and the quality of the food suffers as a result. Ordered a medium rare burger the last two times I was there and had to send it back both times because the burger patty came out as a blackened, over-cooked hockey puck. I can’t imagine how someone in good conscience would have let that leave the kitchen. They even find ways to screw up plain spaghetti noodles. Last time we came in it was totally dead, so the kitchen did’nt even have the excuse of being busy. The manager adjusted our bill for the bad burgers bot times, which is great (seems like a nice guy) but it’s going to be hard to trust the kitchen enough to come back.
Delicious meal and the wait staff was very informative and helpful. I wish I remembered her name to give her specific praise. I will return again on my next trip from Seattle. The panna cotta with lemon and strawberry was particularly wonderful.
4 of us went in to eat. We waited 30 minutes for a server when the restaurant was very slow. The waiter took orders for half our party then left. 20 minutes later he came back with their drinks and was surprised that the other 2 actually wanted to order. We waited another 30 minutes for the food. I ordered a well done burger. It was charcoal on the outside and still cold and bloody on the inside. The manager then came over and asked how our food was. We showed the burger to her and asked for a different one. That took another 20 minutes for them to return the same burger to the table only it had been microwaved! The bill came and they didnt even take 5% off for the hassle. I will Never return.
Good food. Good atmosphere - sit inside or outside
Sat on the patio Friday night after street Faire for dinner and we could not have been more pleased. Food and cocktails were beyond delicious, service impeccable. Our lovely waitress knew everything about the menu and was very accommodating to my partners food issues. Worth the hike from Denver, we will visit again soon!
Good food
Loved the food selection. There are some great happy hour items that you wont find in other bars. The people are super friendly and it is a great place to hang and socialize for drinks after work.
Good food, great drinks but both are pricey. The service can go either way. Ive had great service and Ive had not so great. Its the type of place that we will go for a drink/dessert after dinner elsewhere.
What a shame! Before the renovation and menu changes, this was one of our favorite spots... no improvements, menu was downgraded, drinks not good, fruit flies everywhere. Friendly staff, negative atmosphere.
Service was okay, but kinda slow. My fried chicken sandwich was raw. They replaced it with an apology (verbal, no comp), so they get a second star. Nothing compelling me to come back, there are several great restaurants nearby that Ill eat at instead.
