I had already planned to have my hair cut once I had free time. So, last weekend, I went to this barbershop. The barber was very cordial and suggested what was the best haircut for me. I trusted his expertise, and I am so happy with the result. He was truly an experienced man. I love the cut done to my hair. Thank you so much!

My dining companion and I visited this fantastic restaurant on Saturday. Our hopes for the operation were met. The staves were really friendly and helpful. Well come back to this place. Quality was good. but the issue is the barber didnt try to understand what hairstyle I wanted. They were perstient to cut more like a typical boy haircut and when i did somewhat give in, I totally regret it. I felt could have went better if the barber tried to understand what i wanted.

It was a well-done job at an inexpensive price. The barber who cut my hair was a true master because he finished his job in a matter of minutes and it was perfect. I owe a big debt of gratitude to this barbershop!

It was a service which was really special. I will go back to this barbershop next time! The barber understands how to cut and style my thick and straight hair. Before cutting, I like getting my hair washed and dried after cutting.

The New California Barbershop is outstanding. Priced well for the best cut I have had since moving to Manhattan. Great environment in the shop, roomy and eight or more chairs in operation even on the weekends. Ill be going back to The New California Barbershop for my next cut, no question.

Been getting my hair cut here about once a month or so for a long time now. Always love it, regardless of who does it. Friendly vibe, good music, plus the hot towel at the end is a nice touch. Worth the $35 in my opinion. Highly recommended for Echo Park locals!

Very professional, excellent service. Brian took care of me and trimmed about 5 inches off my beard . He took the time to properly shape it and straight razor my neck. It was very good experience . Not to mention the haircut was done with great precision as well. Very pleased!

I started going to the New Californian about six months ago. I always get a great cut. Ive brought friends whove become regulars too.If the line gets a little long put your cell number in the chalk board and walk to Mowhawk Bend for a snack. The barber will text you about 10 minutes before your turn.

Imagine a classic, 1950s barbershop if it had been built today, and thats The New California. No reservations, walk-ins only. Loved the value for the quality haircut and company while waiting.

Been here a couple of times. Bare bones type of hipster joint. The woman that works there is good, but the bald guy (Brian, I think) isn’t great. Super rough with his comb and gave a subpar haircut.

I think the haircut was technically well done, but the service was weird. Calling my cowlick fin bad/crazy (I cant remember which of the two) is kind of unnecessary, and the man got really unpatient with me as apparently I was moving my head (and he said something about me getting an fed up haircut if it kept happening). It definitely wasnt respectful service and just felt uncomfortable. Im the kind of guy who always tips, but I feel sort of sick in retrospect that I did.Technically fine, just unpleasant vibes..

Today, Brian cut my hair for the second time... And thats kind of a big deal, because Ive had so many mediocre or just plain awful haircuts, that I havent gone to the same place twice in almost 7 years! I even had a stylist at an upscale salon take the liberty of adding his own gratuity on my credit card slip after totally fing up my hair! Insane.When I read an article about The New California Barbershop in Echo Park, in the Racked LA blog several months back, I decided to give it a shot. The article mentions that Brian, a musician, was a drummer in several rock bands, including Nodzz, Still Flyin, and Track Star. And how $6000 he found in the pocket of a jacket at a thrift shop, put him through barber school, before paying his dues at various barbershops in the Bay Area.I planned it so I could get my hair cut while I was doing laundry across the street at Lucys Laundromat on Sunset and Mohawk. Echo Park isnt far, but traffic can make the trip seem like an eternity. I arrived at Lucys and shoved all the blankets and linens in one of those giant 8 capacity machines - so I could get everything done in a single load - and jay-walked it across the street.As it turns out, I showed up just as Brian was closing. He was very accommodating and offered to stay open since I made the trip from the other end of the Sunset Strip. And we all know how precious that is after battling LA traffic!I sat in the chair and got an old fashioned, honest-to-god, classic barbershop hair cut. Shaggy, with a little off the top, nice clean sides and straight along the neck. He finished with a hot towel face wrap and cleaned up the neckline with a straight razor. His technique is near perfect, but I prefer to skip the straight razor, because it irritates the skin on my neck.Today, I called ahead to find out how late he was open and he said 5:00. It was already 4:30, so I told him Id hurry, but Id be coming from the Sunset Strip. He said, not to worry, if he knows Im coming, hell wait. That personal touch, not to mention hard work and a superior cut is what sets him apart.Perfect Again. Ill definitely be back. Thanks for the perfect Caeser, Brian!
