The Summit Garage is on Historical Lincoln Highway. The area was called The Summit, but changed to Altamont when the railway arrived in 1869. There is a post office which operated here from 1872 to 1955. This historical landmark can still be seen driving on the Altamont Pass Road or via Altamont Corridor Express Train.
