My family and I studied karate at NGMA for over 10 years -- all wonderful! It was a great place to build a stronger relationship with my kids, plus also gain self-esteem, increase physical fitness, and make friends. Shihan LeMay is a great teacher, as are her other instructors. Its a great warm and welcoming community for every student and family. We could not be happier with our experience!
Our family has been coming to the New Generation Martial Arts dojo for more than 15 years. My two sons have grown from little dragons to first and second degree black belts. Shihan and her staff taught them a lot along the way. They developed core strength which help them stay safe in other sports, and confidence. They also learned to be patient, kind and respectful. Shihan LeMay expects everyone to give their best in a supportive environment. This year she additionally found creative ways to keep teaching despite Covid-19, while following all guidelines and keeping her students safe, of course. When nothing much else was happening I was grateful that my younger son still had bi-weekly online karate lessons from our basement. Way to go Shihan!
What sets New Generation Martial Arts apart from other Dojos is the culture of inclusivity and open heartedness. Kindness and compassion are equally as important as self discipline and confidence. Shihan is not only an impressively skilled and accomplished martial artist, she is a genuinely empathetic human being who is able to connect with and inspire her many devoted students.
I have been going to the dojo for several months now and I enjoy going now as much as I did in the beginning. I had been listening to some of my friends talk about the class for over a year and that sparked my introduction to the class. My teacher is dedicated to her role and attempts to help us improve each night we attend. I always feel better after the class no matter how my day has gone. You are not expected to be perfect, you are expected to learn and refine your movements as you gain proficiency. It is absolutely worth the trip and the sore muscles the next day.
Shihan has been a great influence over the past 6 years in helping my son develop self discipline and respect for others.I really appreciated her efforts to keep classes going virtually through the pandemic as classes helped anchor our family in otherwise chaotic times.
Shihan is amazing with the kids. She demands a lot of them but is also kind and supportive. The students are not only learning martial arts but also being trained in discipline, resilience, and how to be a good member of society. I highly recommend.
I strongly recommend New Generation Martial Arts. Shihan brings deep dedication and skill to her work with students of all ages. She offers not only rigorous, individualized training in karate skills, but also deeper life lessons. My son loves karate class, and were especially grateful that Shihan is offering remote learning opportunities through the current public health crisis.
I’ve been a student at New Generation Martial Arts for over 11 years now, and I still come back during my college breaks. Every single teacher and assistant has shaped me into who I am today and I’ve loved every single one of them. The community of people here are amazing, they’re very friendly and I’ve made so many friends from the dojo that I keep in touch with outside the dojo too! But the best part is all the teachers know what they are doing and teaching, from the basics at white belt to self defense like what you would see in the real world. Even as a teacher myself, I love being able to teach to the younger students who are all very respectful too. I feel very comfortable going off to college and knowing that if I get in a bad situation, I’m able to defend myself. I’ve also learned many lessons for my own self such as being responsible, respectful, etc. If I could give more than 5 stars to New Generation Martial Arts, I would.
While NGMA has made me much more physically stronger and more capable of defending myself, it has also taught me essential life lessons and skills. I grew up with NGMA as I have trained here for 11 years and risen from being a “Little Dragon” to a Black belt. During these years I’ve learned about kindness, respect, discipline, commitment, self control, and giving my all. Not only are all these skills applicable to the dojo, but I use them outside the dojo in being a better person. The staff is friendly, and I’ve been lucky to form a relationship with every teacher and Sensei. I’ve never regretted going to class as teachers make class fun while also helping you grow in your training. I strongly recommend this to anyone who considers joining, it was truly life changing for me.
Ive been a student for around 10 years now at NGMA. Through my training, I havent just learned karate or self-defense, Ive learned important life skills such as discipline and focus, much of this due to the staff. It has been evident time and time again these past years how dedicated the teachers are to both the art of karate and the students. Additionally, the curriculum is anchored in traditional Kenpo Karate while still not being stuck in the past; New additions such as Jung-Shin sword training keep the experience at the dojo fresh. Ive never had a class I regretted at NGMA, 5/5.
My children started as Little Dragons and successfully completed their Black Belts 10 years later at New Generation Martial Arts. Shihan LeMay was a positive influence not only as they learned the skills of karate but also important life skills including self respect, discipline and self confidence. We highly recommend Shihan and New Generation Martial Arts!
