My daughter has been going to Sylvan Learning on and off for a couple years. She first went through their reading program a while back and made such amazing progress. When she started having problems in math, especially with multiplication we knew that she would get the help that she needs from Sylvan again. She has been in their math program for a couple months now and is improving so much. Sylvan has helped her overcome her learning disabilities and their program helps her learn in a way that she understands. You cant put a price on your childs education and self confidence!
Sylvan Learning has such an amazing program! As someone who struggled through school, I know how tough it is! It has been so amazing to watch my child finally understand math and go from reading 3 grades levels below her grade, to now reading above her grade level! The most rewarding part and what makes this worth every penny, is watching her self confidence grow! I couldnt recommend it enough!
Sylvan Learning of Layton changed my sons life! He was diagnosed with a developmental delay that impacts his ability to process reading and language. When he got into kindergarten, he was the lowest reader in his class and his self esteem took a huge hit. Desperate to help him, we started tutoring at Sylvan. He attended for 5 months and it was a night and day difference. He went from being in the lower end of DIBELS reading scores and jumping up two reading levels by the end of the school year. This made my mama heart burst for him and he even got an award at school for The Most Improved Reader and Writer. All he needed was some individualized attention at his pace with people who were patient and knew what he needed and it has made a huge difference. He is in first grade now and is at the same level as the rest of his peers. I will be forever thankful to Sylvan for helping him gain the necessary skills to elevate him to where he needed to be. Thank you, Ms. Rose and staff for being so good to him! I listen to him read now and sound out words and I am so thankful and proud. Thank you!
It was good from what I heard from my son
This is a great facility. My daughter loves going and she has learned so much. We enrolled Her for extra help in reading but they go above and beyond as they are also helping her with her math and speech as well. It’s worth every penny!!!
We have had a great experience at Sylvan, the teachers are amazing and have made learning really fun for our daughter. She has made great progress and loves going to learn. The reporting / parent conferences are very helpful and we’ve enjoyed seeing how much progress they make in such a short period of time.
Rose does an amazing job of making my daughter feel welcome and at ease at Sylvan. My daughter has improved 2.5 grade levels in 9 months. She is more confident in her school work and is actually happy to go to school now! I would highly recommend The Layton Sylvan learning center! My daughter has improved in every level I have her enrolled in at Sylvan. Best money ever spent!
Our experience has been good and our child is improving at her regular school. Weve noticed significant improvement in the way she puts sentences together and a noticeable difference in her mathematics skills and shes improving in getting along with her peers its been a positive experience all the way around.great school
My children have been attending Sylvan Learning of Layton for the past 5 weeks. I have been very impressed with the people who work at this particular Sylvan. Rose and Jessica have been enthusiastic with my kids and always seem to be happy to see them. They have such a positive attitude that it is contagious. They have been patient with me as a parent as I have tried to figure out the program and as I have had questions. They are truly wonderful to work with. The program has been good. I think the teachers work hard to help the students understand the many different concepts. I appreciate the fact that they do not move on until concepts are mastered. That is something that is missing in public school. I am hopeful that my children will benefit greatly from their time and association with Sylvan Learning of Layton. I know as a parent I have appreciated them very much.-Becky
Our daughter was struggling in her honors math class. We were desperate to find a place for her to go to get the help that she needed in order to be successful. Not only was Sylvan able to help her understand the material, but she grew in confidence. Bonus: her grades went from failing to As. The teachers at Sylvan care and did a great job! I feel comfort knowing that if needed help again in the future, we have a place to turn for help.
I highly recommend Sylvan Learning. The staff is amazing and my child is progressing. Thank you.
My daughter has been going for reading and she has improved so much in less then a year. She loves going and the staff is great to work with.
Sylvan Learning of Layton has helped my son so much with his reading and confidence. The staff is amazing and make him feel special.
Alexandra has made such a turnaround since shes been going to this school theyre fabulous with her and they work with her so hard and she has developed so much I love this school
My daughter has been attending Sylvan for a little over a year. She started struggling in second grade and was diagnosed with some learning disabilities. It was so hard to watch her try so hard to understand but not able to grasp what should be simple concepts. She started not wanting to go to school and her confidence level was going down hill. After talking with our school administration we decided she needed some professional help. We chose Sylvan because I knew there program worked. 26 years ago my younger brothers and I had attended Sylvan. I had been in an accident when I was 13 and I missed the last 4 months of 7th grade and my two younger brothers fell behind because my mom was at the hospital pretty much every day with me for 6 months. All 3 of us were caught up in under 5 months. My daughter has done so amazing this last year at Sylvan. Rose and Deanna are so kind and caring as with all the other teachers. She now understands at her grade level which is truly amazing! She is happier, more confident, loves school and has absolutely loved going to Sylvan! I highly recommend Sylvan to anyone who has a child who needs extra help with school! Yes it is expensive but I feel you can’t put a price on your child’s education and confidence!
We met with Rose to enroll our child into the program. We spent a good hour going over options. The costs were very high as expected, however going to Sylvan myself when I was a child; It was an amazing experience. We were very undecided on how to pay for it ( in excess of $7000-$9000 ). They have different financing options and we were going to leave and decide. Rose then gave us an option to pay for 2 weeks worth of sessions for $500 (around $570 with application fees). I asked if there was some reason we decided to not start the classes the next week we could call and cancel putting our child on the schedule and get a refund. She said as long as we gave a 1 week notice to from the first class that was scheduled, that it would be fine. I felt very assured that things would work out. I put the $500 down, we had some circumstances health wise come up and my spouse called the next day ( which was one week before the classes started ) to cancel the classes for now and we would come back when we could afford it. We needed a refund and gave sufficient notice and she said she would get back to us after talking to the VP or CEO ( who was out of town for almost 5 days ). We had to call 6 days later and she declined to give us a refund. She said we didnt give sufficient notice to cancelling the classes for our child and the VP refused to refund the money as well. My spouse got on the phone with her and the VP. At this point Rose turned from a very sweetly optimistic person into handling the refund personally, getting defensive and the VP was no different. We told them we even understood the application fees were not refundable but this was extremely unprofessional of them both to be acting so childish about $500. Especially when we were going to come back after our tax return and drop $7000-9000 to enroll again. They simply didnt care. Make sure that you are all in when you decide to enroll and do not let them talk you into a refundable deposit that you can think on overnight. I am steering all the people I interact with to not put their kids into Sylvan and especially not do business with Rose. I am extremely dissatisfied with their treatment and taking advantage of us and especially the professionalism they portrayed only after they had our money. Now we just have $500 sitting in their system we will never use and with Sylvan; $500 will not get you even a foot in the door when it comes to how many classes your child will have to attend. Thanks for being dishonest to us. We know better now.
Bait, switch, and hookOur true story here, results in a family being terribly mistaken.Do not fall for the tuition rates. Yes, definitely we all would like our children to be fully educated and advanced or which ever your circumstances are. The lady was very professional and fantastic at sales. Hands down.We paid and we did not start our child. After paying Sylvan that night we slept on it, called the next morning and cancelled. To give you an idea we walked out of there super late about 8:00pm mst.Let’s define my meaning of morning - We called by 9:30 am MST. Good.. great! That’s established. We decided we wanted to view our options considering the price quoted to us for 4 months at $ 9,000.00 something.By all means my son has challenges and yes needs extensive one on one time. So this was the price we were needing to pay. Like most mothers - I’m seeking the best for my child- I said let’s try it for a small amount of time and see how my child adjusts quote” My son has a lot going on and we might need to do one thing at a time”. End quote. We paid that night and had decided it wasn’t going to be the best fit for us.It is now year 2018 - they refuse to refund our $500. We are allowed to tutor our child there if we’d like. We were told it was refundable if we gave 2 weeks advanced notice. We scheduled his first session for 2 weeks out from the weekend we paid and called the next day to cancel; under the assumption we would be refunded as they stated it would be.Wrapping up:Bottom line, what they created was an optional choice for their company. A 100% stamped and sealed - unethical business choice.Side note: THESE ARE TRUE FACTS.We will never provide business for Sylvan. We are refusing to accept the unethical decisions that this company provides AND HAVE WALKED AWAY FROM $500.00.Our purpose solely is to educate you on this company in hopes that you will not be put in a terribly uncomfortable situation. Among hundreds of people who may think they have an option and are completely mistaken. Do not give them your money unless you are committed to losing it if you can’t afford the $6000-$9000 price tag. They stated that “trying it out at first” is a great idea to see how we liked it. However, unless we continued his education system with them after, it would be a waste of time and money; thus the “refund offer”.
Having worked at Sylvan for over a year, I have learned what it really means to have the Sylvan experience. This isnt regular tutoring where students are helped with school work. They are taught the basic fundamental principles that the student is struggling with, so that they will be able to continue as a success after they have successfully overcome their struggles, and moved on past their Sylvan experience. At Sylvan students learn the keys to their learning. They can understand how they learn; whether audio, visual, hepatic or a combination. I have students struggle to read and quite frankly despise it, become eager readers with the understanding that they can understand better when they read out loud. With the knowledge of how they learn students are better able to take notes that are helpful instead of hindrances.Sylvan employs wonderful instructors who not only teach but care for the students. They build a report with the students, who are excited to share their days experiences. The instructors care where the student’s academic level and seek out ways to help the student understand difficult concepts. The instructors all work as a team to help one another with in helping the students succeed.Sylvan is a wonderful experience for all involved from the student to the parents, in the time that I have spent at Sylvan I have seen many happy smiling faces coming and going from the center with a school report card that matches the smiles.
My son finished his year at Sylvan in Layton Utah in October 2013. His next two Parent Teacher Review were awesome, his teachers said he is a totally different kid. I am so happy I made the decision to take him to Sylvan; it is a life change for him and our family. He has taken ownership of his homework and his school time learning. He is held accountable now because we know he can do this. If teachers are telling you your student is a bit behind but will catch up and you never see them catch up. You hear this year after year get them into Sylvan, you will not regret it. Your student’s education is their future and who can put a price tag on that. Thanks to Rose and the great staff at the Sylvan Center in Layton, they were great and supportive even when he did not want to learn that day they worked with him and set goals. They will give the direction that is needed, take the advice and help your child grow.
Rose Romero and the staff at Layton Sylvan were an answer to prayer for our family! My 16 year son needed extra help in math in order to get him to grade level. Their testing procedures and assessments were accurate from the beginning and we had great communication with them the entire time. Rose was always available to answer questions for me as a parent and even worked with our unique financial situation. My son was discouraged with math when we started but by the time we finished his confidence had soared! The teachers were always encouraging and excited to see him and the gift card incentives he was awarded at the end were spot on for a teenage boy. Thank you Sylvan for helping our family.
This particular location has been a blessing to my daughters academic career Miss Rose and Miss Deanna are very kind and understanding and have been nothing but helpful in explaining exactly what theyre working on with my daughter. Thank you so much for all you put in to help others.
Enrolling my son in Sylvan has been the best decision we have ever made. The difference in not only his scores academically, but his outlook on school as a whole has improved dramatically. He used to never bring home homework and tell me he did it at school. After several sessions at Sylvan, he was bringing homework home, having me go several times over his spelling words and having me check over his homework nightly. He has never once argued in having to go to Sylvan, even though it takes us 30 minutes to get there and then another 2 hours learning. He has noticed a difference in himself, and I believe any amount of money is worth the increase in his self esteem. I wish I would have done this sooner and avoided the nightly fight of getting him to do his homework! Even his teachers have noticed he works harder, stays on task and is willing to ask questions when he doesnt understand. I recommend Sylvan to everyone!
My 9th grade daughter was really struggling in school. Most days it was a struggle just to get her to go to school. After exploring several options, we decided to give Sylvan a try. We meet with Rose and worked out a plan. We opted to pay up front. She tested my daughter and discovered she was reading and comprehending at about a 5th grade level. I knew she struggled with reading and was a slow reader, but did not realize how much. After a month she was up two grade levels. By the two months she was at end of 8th grade. At this time, my daughter got involved with track and was unable to make it very often to Sylvan. Since she was doing so much better in school and would get up and to now without a fight, we decided we could quit Sylvan. I talked to Rose and she was very excited that my daughter was doing so well. We requested a refund, which she gladly submitted. Granted, we are still waiting on it, it has only been a few days, but I dont anticipate any problems.
Sylvan has helped my 11 year old daughter immensely! She started having reading issues in 1st grade. By 2nd grade, she was extremely behind in her grade and we started taking her to Kumon. We had her enrolled in Kumon from 2nd grade through 5th grade and her reading improved a little, but never to grade level. We finally decided we needed to try something different. We met with Rose at Sylvan and decided to enroll her at Sylvan to finally make some progress in my daughters reading level. We only had her in Sylvan for 5 months, and she has passed her grade level in reading, improved her study habits, and she now feels confident with her classwork and homework. I couldnt believe how much she improved in only 5 months! Sylvan was a little on the expensive side for us, but it was worth it. They taught her the fundamentals that she needed in order to succeed and not just get by. I feel confident that our daughter is now ready for 7th grade.Update: My daughter got straight As the first term of 7th grade. This is a complete 180 of what she did in the past. She now feels confident in her study habits and has the necessary tools to learn because of Sylvan. I am still very impressed!
Very helpful.
Awesome group.
