Great friendly service. Got my car in and completely finished within a exceptional amount of time despite the back order parts these days. This shop is extremely busy and Im glad I waited in line! Wonderful staff and very knowledgeable. I also like that Jim takes the time to address every detail. He points things out and is a great communicator. I also appreciate that My vehicle was kept within his shop at all times. Hence the waiting in line. My Camaro appreciates you!
I greatly appreciate this shop. Very knowledgeable, friendly and communicative. They handle all my custom work and restoration. Nothing swept under the rug. They explain and present everything. I especially liked that my vehicle was garage kept. I will definitely be coming back for any future needs. Thank you very much!
Jim helped me lift my car! He charges by the hour but he gave me some money off because it wasnt a tedious job. Hes not a money grabber! Just a good guy trying to make a living off of his skills and I can respect that! He got me fixed and ready for the road in less than two hours and even did it on the fly before his other SCHEDULED clients because of how quick the job was. Hes a good guy, one of the few who arent trying to rob you!
Not very many shops like this these days. I’m glad they were able to fit me in. Jim and his staff our very knowledgeable and explained everything to me throughout the process. They rescued my late father’s Chevy truck and brought it back from barn. I highly recommend this shop! Thank you
The owner of this shop is a capable mechanic and most of the work that he performed on different occasions was very good, however, some of it was not and work was performed the last time I employed the services of this shop that I did not request even though I had discussed my budget limitations beforehand with the owner. He did allow me to make a down payment and pay the remaining amount due in installments, however, the accountant (his wife) expected me to apologize for not being able to immediately pay the total amount due, whereas, neither she or the owner offered an apology for exceeding my budget limitations and performing work that I did not request. That was my experience with this shop. Your experience might vary.
If your looking for a one stop shop for a full restoration custom, modified or original Jays is top notch. Very professional and attention to detail.
Had Jim and the guys put on a Solo Performance race exhaust on my 2015 Mustang Gt. They did a fantastic job very clean work fitment was excellent friendly staff would recommend them for your vehicle needs
ATTENTION viewers, that these one star reviews are not truthful about what this company is actually capable of and what they do for their customers. They are all fraudulent ex employees and people who dumped their vehicles upon us w/o paying. Very deceiving and misleading! This shop takes pride in what they do and promotes the upmost in quality service to their customers. Their integrity is second to none. This is a custom shop, if you can dream it, they will build it. I highly recommend Jims Speed Shop to anyone whos looking to bring that old car or truck back to life! Visit their Instagram @jims_speed_shop and see for yourself. Thank for reviewing!
Great shop is an understatement. I have a 1976 F100 that was having starting/stalling issues, they found and corrected the issue super fast, they identified and brought to my attention other issues with my truck that presented a hazard, and they corrected everything to perfection and within budget! They provided pictures of the issues and communicated very clearly on what need to be done, once fixed they provided pictures showing everything had been done properly. Will definitely be back for more work on my project!
My husband and I have a couple old vehicles. A 68 Camaro. My personal baby and a 55 Chevy 3100 pickup. Jim and his staff are extremely knowledgable and treated us with extreme professionalism. We wouldnt trust no other and its not like shops like this are previlent these days. One kid from another shop ask us where the laptop port was on his 55 pickup. Really?? Jim actually communicates with you, he follows up with you and responds to your vehicle as if its your child or family. Were impressed. Take it from our experience. I cannot concur with some of the low star reviews. It definitely was a great experience. Thanks to everyone at this shop!
Super great professional service. I highly recommend this shop, there is no better around. Great friendly staff, thank you for the outstanding customer service and support.
Great friendly staff and they really know what their doing. Outstanding shop and dont trust much elsewhere, they really know what theyre doing. Not too many speed shops around these days. Definitely aba dying breed. Thanks, Andy
Jim really is passionate about his profession and is very detail oriented!
I am the owner of Metal of Honor. We do mobile media blasting for many body shops/ restoration shops in the state of Georgia. I have many customers ask me who I would recommend for services so I pay attention to quality and professionalism. The crew at Jim’s are very knowledgeable and have a passion for classic cars.
Honest and awesome shop. It wasn’t open due to holiday weekend but owner happened to be there. Im mechanically inclined and my truck needed emergency repairs. They took awesome care of me. Got me back on the road in a snap. Hands down, I highly recommend this shop. You will never find better people. Thank you.
I had Jim inspect a Mustang from Gateway Classics. He did a super thorough inspection and gave me the straight scoop. He saved me $47k but telling me it was no ware near that value and the it was lipstick on a pig. With multiple communications via text and email, he kept me informed and educated. I highly recommended him for work on your classic muscle car.
I am an auto part store delivery driver. I deliver parts to Jims Speed Shop on a daily basis. I always enjoy my trips to this shop. I never know what kind of car or truck I might get to see at Jims. The autos are beautiful as they get closer and closer to being fully restored. Ive seen some gorgeous Hot Rod and Muscle Car engines being assembled at the shop. Jim is a serious craftsman who takes his job serious and the job at hand serious. He has a real knack for problem solving. If you have a project car that needs a little attention, and youve got a budget you can work with, give Jim a call. Just remember, when restoring any car, youll need some patience if you want it done right.
I took my classic car to this shop. There are other shops but then there’s this shop. Can’t say I share the same experience as the one star reviewers. There aren’t that many places that specialize in what they do, and old cars don’t come cheap. Couldn’t ask for better service. They actually take the time to assist your needs and have earned my trust and business for life! I greatly appreciate their top notch service. Thanks!
I’ve worked next to Jim’s and sent my dad to them. He has an old 47 Ford Coupe. After reviewing the review left from Mr. Horn, that is simply unlike these guys. I also seen that his wife left a review for the same car and if find that dishonest. These guys are truly a dying bread. I would recommend anyone who’s looking to have work done on their classic car, truck or 4x4, even drag race builds. My dad really appreciates these guys. Thank you!
Some good and some not so good experiences. Needed to have work redone at other locations which is expensive in time and money.
Excellent and friendly crew. Had a bad starting issues with my 65 plymouth. It was resolved in less time then expected. Electrical issues are unpredictable,in this case their professionalism and expertise took care of the problem in just a few hours. In the past Ive had bad experiences with other restoration places, but Jim definitely put some faith that there are honest hard working car guys still out there. Looking forward to working on future projects together! Thanks guys! Highly recommended.
Top notch shop bar none! Not all shops are alike. These guys are on top of their game and guys like this are a dying breed with the utmost in professional workmanship. These guys get the job done right and have the passion to drive.
Great shop been coming here for the past few years. Where others have failed me and taken advantage of me, Jim & the gang are top notch! They have definitely earned my business for life. I also love seeing all the cars and trucks. Theres always something going on at this shop. Thanks for keeping me and my 69 Chevelle on the road!
Professional, Fair, Fast and Friendly - What more can you ask for when youre looking for somewhere to trust with your project. Ive worked with Jim for years and its always a pleasure. I highly recommend Jims Speed shop for any projects big and small.
Best shop in the area with a high attention to detail and professionalism towards their customers. All customers and their vehicles are accommodated with secure shop space locked within the building. Camera system and local police ensure the utmost in keeping a watchful eye on their vehicles.. Commited to going that extra mile to answer your questions with very a acknowleble staff and consideration for their customers needs! With that being said, you are welcomed and valued at every step in the process!
Great shop and a talented group of professionals. We have a 1929 Model A and we wouldn’t trust just anyone with this vehicle. First and foremost, these vehicles are getting older and more lost in time and equally these guys are getting harder to find. Thanks to all the staff!
My father has been taking his old ford truck to Jim’s Speed Shop for the past few years and I have to say these guys our at the top of their game. Their staff is very friendly and knowledgable. Furthermore, Jim communicates and contacts with the customer. We have used other shops prior to Jim’s, and hands down Jim has earned our business for life! I don’t understand these one star people, because we share the same experience as the other five star folks. Personally, I’ve never experienced at $3 fix. There’s definitely something left out and/or exaggerated. Thanks to every at Jim’s Speed Shop!
Jims Speed Shop is an awesome place to build a muscle car from little work to full restoration. The team is very talented, they are all about detail and doing the job right. Its great to work with a crew that knows what they are doing and that are highly knowledgable. They take the time to explain what theyre doing in the process of building the car and they always answer the phone. They have just finished building a Z28 for us that came out absolutely beautiful, we couldnt be more satisfied. They were ahead of schedule with the project, my work included full interior, electrical, suspension, floor pans and undercoating, exhaust work and brakes. Jim the owner, Billy the mechanic tech was awesome and Chip a very talented paint and body man - these guys are perfectionists to detail. Ive been building these cars for over 30 years and I highly commend this company with Top Star Rating. They are honest and give a fair work rate, these cars take time and patience but its super worth it when its all done. We are soon going to restore another car with Jims Speed Shop! Great Job!!!
Ive known Jim for decades and I have to say I that if he was still in Los Angeles...I would definitely be taking my cars to him again for restoration. Jim is an expert and his follow up is unbelievable...he calls back everyone in a timely manner! If you need restoration work done on a car...Jim is the man to call.
Love this shop, Jim, Bill and Chip are extremely knowledgeable on all facets of restoration and repair. The best part is they are willing to explain all ways to attack anything that ails your vehicle, while being mindful of your financial situation. They have worked on my F100 many times over the years, turning a former farm vehicle (with more duct tape and bailing wire than you can imagine) into something anyone would feel comfortable and proud to drive down the road! I have been to quite a few other shops in town that actually complain about what had to be done to make the vehicle right, one went as far as saying they dont have time for this type of work, but there is no job too small for Jim and his crew. Quit wasting your time looking for the next disappointment, give Jim a call and make your dream car a reality!
Ive been to other shops but this shop stands above and beyond. Helpful, curtious, knowledgeable and friendly. Jim will take the time to answer all your questions. I wont go anywhere else. Thanks guys
Jim and his crew are top notch. Treated me, a new customer, like theyd known me forever. They listened to what I wanted, provided quality feedback and then did the work agreed upon quickly and professionally. Best of all they treated my car like it was one of their own. Couldnt ask for more! Ill definitely be a return customer!
Jim and the team did a major mechanical overhaul on my 69 Camaro and I am still in awe at the result. The car runs and drives better than is was when it was new. It is gorgeous, fast, and sounds awesome. Jim took the time to enlighten me on the systems, options, and how it all works together to achieve the best possible outcome. I was so impressed with the knowledge, care, and dedication I experienced at Jims Speed Shop and wouldnt bring my car anywhere else.
Jim has been great with us. I had a electric motor with transmission that I needed a shaft pressed into. He did amazing work very quick and was very helpful to the very end.
My car broke down during a family trip. It was the weekend and most places were closed. I found Jims number and called him at 7:00 pm. He took my call and asked me to meet him at his shop early the following morning. I did. Jim showed up bright and early. He fixed my car properly and fast for the right price. Great friendly service. A very knowledgeable mechanic also. Thanks Jim!
All I can say is buyer beware, did unapproved work, charged for work not done. Over $2000 and absolutely nothing repaired. Charged $600 to tune a carburetor to then say we need to replace the brand new carburetor. After taking it to another mechanic it was a arching plug wire, $3 fix Jims charged over $600 to then want to charge another $500 to repair a problem that did not exist.Once he had my car he did the repairs he wanted to do, unapproved. Once he has you car you have to pay him to get you car back.BUYER BEWARE!!!
Having built my first hot rod (T-Bucket) I needed to shake out the car for handling and corrections. Naturally, I had some problems beyond my scope...it was Jim to the rescue. Honest, dependable, and appreciative of all the vehicles under his roof. You can pay less, but I doubt you will be pleased with the results. A true California Hot Rod professional. Thanks, Jim. I love my ride!
I recently took my 56 Ford F100 to Jim. The truck had numerous issues. Engine, suspension, fuel tank..etc. Jim treated the truck like it was his own from day one. Throughout the process he kept me updated on the status of the repairs. He even came out on a weekend to help me find the right aftermarket parts at an auto parts store. His mechanic TJ is just as friendly and knowledgeable as well. These guys took meticulous care of this truck and brought it back to life with top of the line parts and tedious craftsmanship. All the while he was moving his shop from one location to another. Its a family run operation and your a part of the family from day one. I would highly recommend Jim for your classic custom car restoration. The workmanship and care is unrivaled.
These guys are great! They listened and assisted me like no other, got the job done right, and stand behind their work. Everything in house. Also any questions I had about upgrades they where very helpful on suggesting what path I should take great to do business with.
Jim treats every customers vehicle like it is his own. Super detailed and thorough. Jim communicates great and lets you know what is happening with your custom ride. Highly recommend to everyone!
Awesome guys who really know and love what they do! Jim is very knowledgeable about the cars and you can tell he really loves his work by the meticulous attention he shows for each one. Glad I was able to find these guys and the shop!
Not the type of people to do business with. Unorganized, bad mannered, with generally poor communication skills. Cant provide simple accurate estimates or timelines. Cant keep employees because of terrible management. No morals or business sense. Any potential customers or employees beware!
Great people who are great at what they do. I left my car with them and I had it back in less than 24hr. Running better than it ever did! I would recommend Jims speed shop to anyone who wants the work done right!
5 stars Great team excellent experience highly recommend.. very very knowledgeable and professional service...
Ive used Jims Speed Shop for a few projects and every time is and always has been a pleasurable experience. Theres nothing that cant do bar none! Id recommend anyone to this shop. Jim & his staff are extremely knowledgeable and will walk you through every step! Theyre gearheads through & through. Thx, Dave W.
Jim has cared for my baby better than any nursery! Love the personal touch, attention to detail, and thoroughness. My 65 Shelby Cobra has never run better.
Jim takes the time to do things right. He is very detail oriented and honest about the work he does! 5 star rating for me!
BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE!! Unfortunately this guy Jim isn’t all that what he says. Jim is very knowledgeable of cars but very horrible at thorough communication. Jim will be the first to tell you that “He’s The Man” unintentionally. He brags and boasts all day longs and can be very long winded. Jim and I agreed on a project involving an 88 Camaro. Through persistence I was able to get a spot in his garage. An an apparent problem where he didn’t want to send the engine back because of how much it’ll cost him. I paid the engine off and only had to get my car towed to the garage. During the time after I paid the engine off Jim did NOT call me one time. Again through persistence we were able to find the best time to tow my car there. The day of the final tow, which would actually be the first time I’ve sat down with Jim to discuss further moves due to his horrible people skills. Jim told me that he requires a deposit of $5300. NO where is it posted that he requires such amount. Turns out that’s just the deposit and doesn’t include anything else. I started to give Jim half of the deposit but then on my initial invoice, in which my engine was bought, I had paid labor hours of $95. Well apparently during the “Jim I’m trying to get my car to you phase” He went up on labor to $115 an hour. Another mark up price and at this point I knew he was crooked. Well once I told Jim that I had to pull out he demanded that I pick up the engine and he will not refund me. It obviously makes more sense being a gear head motor shop that you would’ve easily found another car to put the engine in. After going through ridiculous inconveniences to pick up this engine AND have my car towed again Jim had the nerve to blatantly disrespect me without knowledge of me overhearing and definitely looked stupid when I said something immediately after. Just bad business. If honesty and respect is what you stand for then DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS GUY. You will definitely be better off somewhere else. Jim has a big mouth and very rude. He always overtalks and loves to talk about internet reviews like dude really just FIX MY CAR!?? I really wanted to move further with Jim but he has no cap on what he wants to do to YOUR car. He will demand amounts for things and Jimmy does what Jimmy wants. Piss poor service. Here’s another bad review for you Jimbo. Go ahead and lie your way out of this one.
Worst experience ever. Did work that I did not approve. Tried to charge me$5500 to replace a oil pan gasket. Did it myself in my garage for $35.00 charged me $2400 to tune a carb and adjust a clutch. After Jim fixed it it needed a new clutch and trans. Keep in mind they were new. Also charged $600 to tune a carb. To then tell me my new carb needs to be replaced with a Holley. Seems they only know how to work on one brand. Managed to adjust the windows for a few hundred dollars. Oh I did not approve the work but he said he did it so if I want my car back I have to pay. What a bad business model. Beware.
I had the burgundy drop top in front of Jims shop for 2 years. Supposed to been kept inside. Jim left it outside to rust away, so that he could charge me more money. Jim has hired 5 different techs within 2 years and NO ONE is certified. Please BEWARE, he will take your car and not fix it. Look at all the cars in his shop now, nothing is being fixed. Youve been warned.
***BEWARE*** Thats all I can say!!! Would NOT recommend this shop to anyone. Brought in my 69 Camaro SS with numbers matching engine to have the engine compartment freshened up and a few minor cosmetic repairs done before I list it for sale. The engine was completely overhauled 12 years ago and there is less than 1,000 miles on it since. Car has been barely driven and garage kept since the complete restoration in 2006. Engine was not in bad shape, just needed freshened up for pictures. Jim gave me an estimate of $1,600 - $1,650 and agreed that if costs will go over, he would call in advance. He called me 2 weeks later and had me come in because he went over the original estimate. I got there and the engine was all apart and the bill was at $3,000 and he had done none of the other work. I get it that costs go over and would have been okay with up to a 20% overage on his estimate. Jim informed me that I was going to be $4,000 - $5000 to finish my freshening up so I could sell it. I told him that was way out of my budget and I would not have brought the car to him if it was going to be that expensive to get it ready to sell. He went way beyond the scope of what we agreed. We settled that day for a total of $2,650 for the entire job and I asked him to put the engine back together and fix the other minor repairs. Fast forward to today when I picked my car up. He insisted that I pay the balance in cash so he didnt have to pay the federal taxes on it. The new balance was up again from $2,650 to $2,707. I refused and told him I would only pay the $2,650 we agreed on a couple of weeks ago and that he put in writing. I also told him I was paying with my credit card, same way I paid my initial deposit. Low and behold, he went full out crazy on me. I had to call the Lawrencevile PD to get my car back. After I paid him the revised balance on $2,707, I left. Driving home the engine was knocking real bad. Called my regular mechanic and now Im having the car towed to him to fix whatever Jim screwed up. I have all the documentation from this shop, original scope of work, original estimate, before and after pictures and text message from Jim saying he wants to avoid the taxes which is why he wanted cash. I also have a video of him going full out crazy. The video is insane!!! He also informed me he fired his painter a couple of weeks ago which is why he couldnt do any of the paint touch up. Im filing a BBB complaint against this shop and will also file a claim in small claims court after my mechanic fixes what he messed up. My suggestion is to only use this shop if you want to get ripped off. DONT TRUST A WORD HE TELLS YOU!!! STAY AWAY!!!
Jim and his head mechanic Bill are great! I towed in a ragged El Camino with a blown motor and he gave me great advice/guidance and hooked me up with a new incredible 350 motor. Aluminum heads with a roller cam, serpentine belt system w/electric fans, headers, custom exhaust, and so much more! It looks and runs awesome. Pushing waaaay north of 425 hp! Also upgraded the transmission (to handle the extra hp!), and installed a new A/C and heater system. This car is now amazing! Jim takes the time to explain things to you and makes sure you understand how doing something to one system impact another one. Took a bit longer and cost me a bit more in the short run, but allowed me to make the right decisions for the long haul. Understand, this is a professional speed and resto store just like the shows you see on TV. That is the type of quality work you get here. If you are serious about having your car done right, bring it to Jims! Youll be glad you did!!
These guys are outstanding bar none! I love my Belair. Its a pleasure to work with people who know what their doing. Thanks guys!
I had them install a drop suspension kit all around, and I really appreciated their experience and professional service. My truck stance is exactly what I wanted. My thanks to Jim & TJ. You guys are awsome!
I own a 1940 chevrolet sedan deluxe not being familiar with the car, I located Jims Speed Shop in Lawrenceville Ga. and I was amaze on how Jim gave me a classic car 101 course. The issues I had with my car was corrected the atmosphere was very calming, if you need restoration Jims Speed Shop is the one.
Jims Speed Shop is very knowledgeable and is a shop you can depend on to get you taken care of. Very courteous and customer oriented, looking out for the interests of the customer.
Excellent shop with top of the line equipment and exceptional service. Jim is excellent to deal with and is great at what he does.
These guys are great came in with my 76 Z28 that was missfiring on friday as a walk in and they jumped on it they gave great advice and fixed my car with a quickness i would highly recommend Jims speed shop GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!
My husband & I experienced a great tranaction throughout our truck build. We love it! Thanks for your service :)
Jim and his team did a wonderful job getting my 1963 VW back on the road.
Buyer BEWARE. Im so sick and tired of these con artist sales representatives like JERRY HORN who rip you off. BEWARE!
I was looking for a specialty shop since moving here from Lou ky. I found The place!!! They are all great. Very busy but Jim likes to talk. Lol. He will explain everything you want and recommend what he feels is best. Like his own. Goes to great detail to make sure you understand and are happy. Honest, proffesiinal great guy with wife in office. And his rates are extremely conpetative. And lower than I expected from a specialty shop. Ck out his website. Or stop by. Hell be glad to talk and get to know you. Great job Jim and TJ.
Bought a new toy a 71 Chevelle blown small block with some oil leaks, bad tune, and some small items. Called Jim he and TJ jumped right on it, sent pics of anything the found, did a great job, and left feeling I have a new goto shop!!
Cant get better service anywhere else!Theres nothing this shop cant do.
😉
