Twice now weve cancelled a reservation with Budget, simply due to the hoops we have to go through to simply rent a car. They were cheapest on the vehicle we wanted, so we were going to give them another chance, but if it takes a 10 min. phone call and a page of notes on what to bring with you, its hardly worth the hassle and the headaches. Yes, they are good about calling ahead of time to let you know exactly whats needed, but it shouldnt take so much hassle. Avis and Enterprise have been much easier to work with in our opinion.
Great service and the car was great. Thus was the Lawrence KS location. Excellent service!
Cab and back of truck leaked terribly. Would not have been an issue except that we drove through midwest summer storms for three days. Alignment was out, as well, making the drive through bad weather that much more difficult and strenuous.
If Google allows negative stars, I will give them negative stars and ask all my families and friends do the same thing! In one word, NEVER EVER EVER rent a car from Budget!This is definitely the worst car rental company I have ever dealt with. They just try to ripped off as much as they can. On Aug 26th, I was renting a car from the store and the woman received me over nicely, asking where I was going, etc. Later I just found she did that on purpose, once she learned that I was leaving the country after returning the car! She called me on August 28th (one day after the car return, notice that she didnt say anything about any damages when I returned it), saying that there were damages and dents on the car roof and the engine hood. Which I cannot believe, I drove this car so carefully and never scratched anything!!!Then I contacted the claim manager of Budget regarding this matter, she just tried to postpone my questions and doubts as late as she can. I figured out they were just waiting for me to leave the U.S., at that time I cant physically deal such annoying matters with them and I might just get it over with by letting the deposit go!!! How vicious!!! Then I kept asking them to provide me the location of the car and the mileage on dashboard. I need to see the damages with my own eyes and to know they are not using this car after my return. Such reasonable requirements are ignored again and again until finally they sent me an over 600 dollars bill, stating that I have to pay for damages which do not even exist !!!How ridiculous of that!!! You cant even see the damages from the pictures they sent me!!! See attached.Ps: They also ignored my BBB claim. And I finally I won the dispute from my bank about the deposit but it took me 2 months.BE AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!! TELL ALL YOUR FAMILIES AND FRIENDS!
I cant seem to get anyone to answer their phones. I have called 5 times now and still have not been able to get ahold or anyone during their stated business hours.
Rented a 26 foot straight truck for a move from Kansas to Florida. The A/C did not work the rear bumper weld broke and flopping around and seat was trashed with springs sticking thru. I got this truck from Lawrence Kansas store and guy there said bumper would be fine. SMH.We will never Lease a truck from Budget and shame on Budget for not only putting customers lives in danger but the general public as well. Called main office to make a complaint No Return Call!!!
I booked a cargo van weeks in advance to move my elderly mother. They cancelled on my at 5pm the night before. Unbelievable. I will never use this company and will trash them at every opportunity.
What a mess this location has horrible customer service. Reserved a truck online with amazon / Budget rent a car and received a confirmation email on reservation. Went to pick it up at 12pm. The clerk said sorry I would not be able to rent a truck because I didnt have reservations. I showed the clerk the Email regarding my budget rental confirmation and my credit card deductions this budget store doesnt is he said sorry and walked awayI felt he was discrimination against me because of my female gender and he showed me I was not equality to man and poor customer service.
I put it simple. Avoid this company forever. Nope, they wont change. Donate your money to charities.
Not a good experience. Even though we have rented vehicles from Budget at this and other locations numerous times before, because of some changes in regulations, you must have a credit card to rent a car now, or carry around a water bill in your pocket. As we unfortunately do neither of those, we were unable to get the car, and the woman working did not seem to care. Luckily for us, we were able to dash over to Avis, and the man there was able to help us by simply running a credit score on our debit card. Thanks to Avis, we will be able to make it to our event on time. Definitely switching to Avis for our future rental car needs!
Great staff and my car is always clean
Booked a mini van 5 months ago. This van had DOG hair all over it, (can we say COVID, and I dont feel like wearing a mask all the way to colorado) I had to effing clean the van myself! What a whorable experience I will never use this company again! Than the guy tells me its only going to be 700 with the extra Insurance, when the bill came it was a little under 1000.
Whoa this is the worst experience I’ve ever had with a rental car company. First off let me start by saying I’ve rented through the Lawrence budget on a few occasions when Topeka didnt have rentals available.The problems became apparent when Budget tried to charge me for some damages i was not responsible for. They sent me a hefty bill and after goin back and forth with their Atlanta claims department it was discovered they were looking at the damage sheet upside down the whole time. People make mistakes, no problem. They cleared me of these charges.Here comes a year later and i need to rent a car only to find out Im on the “do not rent” list. I have always paid my bills on time and never had an outstanding balance with them yet here i am on this list.Trying to get to the bottom of it, I reached out to customer service only to find out Im actually not on this list. I called back to the lawrence location to talk to Sherri to try to get to the bottom of it and this was the most unprofessional experience I had in my life. She started yelling and cut me off in the middle of my sentence. When i asked for the district managers number she immediately started saying his number very fast beyond comprehension let alone slow enough to write it down. When i asked if she can hold on a second so i can get a pen she said absolutely nothing and put me on a hold.Absolutely outraged about my experience with budget
Never Rent a new moving truck from Budget. I was excited to get the new 16 foot truck because it only had 11 thousand miles on it, I thought everything would go smoothly because its new, but no, turns out there was a design flaw that budget knew about and still rented it out to me. This design flaw is in the fuel hose. It has no angle, so the gas pools at the entrance and the pump thinks that the tank is full. So you have to hold the pump at a trickle the whole time you fill this 33 gallon tank. My trip was already 28 hours driving from Kansas to Nevada but the gas issue added an additional 6+ hours. They knew about this issue and still gave me that truck when they had several older versions available. In addition, the attendant offered me a whopping $37 off and that has not come through in the last month. She has not returned my calls either.... Just stay away from Budget. They dont care about their customers.
I should give this place negative stars. I showed up to get my car that I had reserved a week earlier and had even called in the day beforehand to see if it was in (they said it was), and they had nothing they could give me. They lied both times. They then sent me to another rental agency that said they had cars I could rent, and they didn’t have any either. So I went back. The sales rep then bumped us up to a car that I wasn’t supposed to be driving (I’m under 25). It was all a bunch of adults acting like children and not owning their screwups. It took us 2 hours to resolve the process, and I had to help them do it. Awful, awful service. I would steer clear of this establishment, maybe even this whole company.
Worst company ever did a move and when I return the truck I thought everything was fine. No they charged me 50 extra dollars and when I called to find out why they said it was for gas. I put 20 dollars of gas in the truck before I returned it and I left the receipt right on the dash board. When I told them that customer service said they need to get in contact with the store so they tired to call to verify and the phone rings to voicemail everytime. Ive called three times finally they said the best they could do is only give me 30 dollars back on my card. Cool but meanwhile I put 20 dollars already in the truck plus they are keeping 20 more dollars of it so Im losing 40 dollars that I will never get back. Do not go with this truck company it is a scam and they have the worst customer service ever !
It was okay, but they need to let everybody know that you always need a major credit card or either Bank credit card. And they hold $300. Then you when you bring your car back then you pay the balance or did they reimburse you some money?
Just like airlines they overbook / guesstimate that they are going to have a vehicle when you need it :(We rented a full-size car, on the phone with their call center since the local office didnt answer the phone (was outside cleaning vehicles). We were told we could pick up our car when we got there (9:00 am). I got a good discount (AARP) if I prepaid so I did.When we got to the location, the agent said there was nothing available except a couple of trucks and a 15-passenger van :( and wouldnt have anything at all for cars (until maybe after 3 pm. but no guarantees).When I went to cancel the reservation, the system said I couldnt get a refund since it was after my pickup time. !!!I ended up talking to a supervisor who assured me that they would refund the whole amount, but now Im still without a car for the trip and have to wait up to 7 days for the refund. This is turning into a nightmare :(I wont do business with Budget again, and probably not Enterprise since they are the ones who started this mess... a reservation for a full-size car made 2 months ago, and they dont have anything for us.Now we are scrambling to find a car for today... I think its time we stand up and start filing lawsuits for both overbooking by airlines and guesstimating rental availability by car rental places.
Although I was in a small hurry and already running behind I was shocked that the woman helping me told me to watch the attitude. Customer service is severely lacking and when I asked for an alternative option for my rental I was simply told theres nothing that they could do except charge me a cancellation fee that is twice what my bill was. I was mostly irritated with how Sherri treated me during my visit, ive worked in customer service for 8 years now and never have I told a customer to watch their attitude. Incredibly rude and made a bad situation worse. I will never rent from them again.
Tried Budget because they had a car that I really wanted to rent but terrible experience. I know why I always use Enterprise.

Hands down worst customer service I have ever had. No willingness to help. A huge mess from the beginning. Power out, lack of communication, not the right vehicle, up charged and was left stranded without any offer to help because there credit card reader would not read my card. Will never use budget rental car again and I would never recommend this location to anyone - walk, run, ride a horse, hitchhike - do whatever you have to do to avoid this unpleasant place on this beautiful planet.
I have sincerely never had a worse customer service experience. Made a reservation for a moving truck weeks in advance and called to ensure a truck would be available as I knew it was a busy time and I was promised there would be a truck. Two days before I came from out of state to move on the day I needed to be out of my house I got an email they changed my pickup and drop-off location to a place two hours away due to the location overbooking by 12 trucks. I spent 6 hours on the phone with numerous employees who continuously ensured me they would get it straightened out. Long story short I have no truck to move out of my house and no one at Budget cared in the slightest. Save yourself the time, stress, and disappointment!

Edit to my previous post. Just an update on my customer service experience. Now theyre going to charge me for the van and the pick up truck. Both of which I didnt use. I didnt even get the pick up truck because there was none available. Great customer service budget.

Worst experience renting a car. Customer service is 100% worthless. You get tossed around and each call ends with a recording stating they are too busy. I called 5 times and was hung up 5 times. Once by a rep and 4 times by being transferred to a were too busy line. They sure arent too busy to charge your credit card. Beyond frustrating! And the 800 number provided in the reviews above is a different extension to the same worthless customer service. In addition, this branch cannot be contacted directly. They are also, too busy! Overcharged and under served. Never again!
Sherri at Budget was super accomadating. She got us a truck when everywhere else was booked solid! Definitely very personable and professional!
Didnt tell the truth said could use my debit card so went over 30 miles to get there and find out wont take. Because its not a bank issued card which never said anything about. So wasnt happy when left
Lawrence Kansas.. It was horrible. I left without a car. When I got there they did not have my reservation, nor the car that was booked for me. My boyfriend and I both had valid drivers license, credit cards and utility Bills and still could not get a car. The cars were dirty and the lady was not helpful at all. My car broke down and had a bunch of things to get done plus getting to work. I will never use budget or reccomend Budget to anyone. The guy who helped us didnt speak English and got the reservation all wrong.
Absolute HORRIBLE service. They overbooked the trucks and didnt bother to call me. I had to drive over 150 miles away to pick up a truck and they charged me for the extra miles from their mistake. And when I arrived at the pickup location they were not there and did not show up for an hour. The employees at each location were rude and both said they did not have time or energy to deal with it. One suggested I try Uhaul... The other employee was so rude and aggressive that he tried to kick me out and deny service. His yelling was so aggressive that I had to call the police. They also required us to drop the truck back off at the far away location, a day earlier than planned and charged for those extra miles. To top it off, the truck broke down on the way back and we had to have it towed. The tow truck employee said it was the second time he had towed the SAME truck for the SAME reason, Horrible company with even worse employees.

Budget rental as a whole is very unprofessional. Our trucks drive shaft and axle broke. We were stuck in the middle of an exit ramp, off a major highway, for 7 hours!! We were on hold for 35 min. with emergency roadside assistance before speaking to anyone and then it took 5 hours for the first person to show up. Which was at 2 a.m. we broke down at 9pm. They delivered a new truck the next day at 1pm. And it was completely empty if gas, filthy, and had a pile of mens underwear in the back. It had not been serviced. The car hauler latch was so rusted inside it wouldnt attach properly to the truck. They sent someone out to look at it 5 hours later, making it 8pm the next night. We had to spend 2 nights in a hotel, miss work, and they dont want to reimburse anything. Plus all calls are outsourced to India andMexico. We felt unsafe the whole trip. Especially with equipment that was not addequit for public use and unserviced. I will inform everyone to never use this company!
After nasty experiences with other rental companies in Lawrence, this Budget location is totally aces. The manager and employees are all nice and helpful--above and beyond. They always make sure I know how to operate all the little extras in the rentals before Im off and running, and when something goes wrong (like I have to wait for a car to come in from the hub for a little while), they always hook me up.---Checking in again a few years after posting the first review. I still use this location for renting moving trucks. The only issue I ever have with them is using my debit card to pay for the rental-- it always takes forever, but thats mostly my credit unions fault. Everyone at this location has been totally understanding and works with me patiently.
Good service renting a car good price
This company sucks. I paid for a pick up truck, prepaid. But when I went to pick it up there was no pick up truck available. So I had to settle for a cargo van. I was running late for work so didnt really have time to argue or complain so I went off to work. Returned the van, decided I didnt want to use it and now I have to jump through all of these hoops in order to get a refund for the damn truck that I never got. Their customer service line sucks. I will not rent from this company ever again or even suggest it to anyone. They have the worst customer service.
3 days before I had to move they emailed me saying my reservation was cancelled. After calling the number given on the website to ask why, I was told that there were no trucks available for the time I had reserved. When I asked why this was the case, the man I was speaking with said that it wasnt their fault as sometimes trucks breakdown, and he was very unapologetic and unwilling to help me figure something else out. Would NOT recommend using Budget to anyone.

The worst Car rental business out there. Shari (assistant manager) lies and doesnt follow through with promises. We tried to cancel the reservation and the lady who took the call in KC guaranteed it. We showed Shari the call log and the fact that it wasnt posted on our account. She promised go look into it and speak with Tom (Regional Manager). They never called us back and we had to call them monday. She told me they arent going to do anything and wouldnt tell me why. I asked for Toms extension and she refused. Very disappointed in the customer service. DO NOT EVER RENT FROM THEM! UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE SCAMMED.
Worst company ever. I would give them no stars !! I had a rental for 12:00 and was told it would be another hour and a half. They offered me a $25 discount for the standard wait time. What a slap in the face. Poor customer service. I booked my rental a month ago and even called them this morning asking to pick up early. I was told, no! The guy running the place was top quality and had a great customer-service-centric personality. I only went there because my rental from another location got rear-ended and had to get a replacement car. Id definitely recommend this location as long as that guy is still there.

Had a truck reserved for a move. They waited until 4PM the DAY BEFORE my reservation to call and cancel because they didnt have the inventory. Unacceptable.
I set up an appointment online to rent a truck on labor day for a local move (called the company to make sure this specific location was open that day and they said it was). When I got there, the location was closed. Called customer service and they wanted us to drive to Olathe to pick up the truck, which wouldve put my entire day behind schedule, not to mention cost me more money for the longer distance I would have to drive. Fortunately, U-Haul actually was open, and they were able to squeeze us in. Skip Budget. Its a terrible company with bad customer service. Ive used both Penske and U-Haul in the past, and both have been great. I would recommend either of them if youre looking for a reliable moving truck rental company.
The truck rental was 2 hours late. The first truck was not roadworthy. An hour later the second truck was not roadworthy. The third truck was safe to drive. I got a discount on the rental, but I will not use budget again.

Worse customer service ever! I wish I had read the reviews before I rented here. Sherry screamed and yelled and threw the keys at me, basically from me stating that I was a KU fan! She said I was rude and condescending because I believed KU was all that. Told me to get out of the store! She ruined my vacation!
WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!! I AM IN TEARS😢 The only reason i gave one star was because it would not let me review them without it. I am here to pick up my rental so I can take my children on our first vacation as a family. I went in and the man working the counter said he rented my car and he does not have another one. He was not very nice about it either. So I called the 800 number and that man could not provide me with any location that had a vehicle for me either. What is the point in making a reservation a whole month in advance and confirming it multiple times if they arent going to keep their end of it and have a vehicle for you. I even called them this morning to see if I could go ahead and pay to make sure my vehicle was there. She told me it was not necessary and I could arrive at 330 and my vehicle will still be there. To make things worse, I have been recently diagnosed with a rare blood cancer (polycythemia vera). I do not know how much longer am going to be here to share experiences such as vacations with my 4 children. So this is by far the worst experience in my entire life. Im going to have to go home to my kids and look them in the eye and tell them we have to cancel our special vacation...our first vacation..and quite possibly our last vacation. It is the most heartbreaking feeling. I HATE YOU BUDGET! THANKS FOR RUINING OUR VACATION. I will tell others about this. I will go on every single budget website and write the same Google review. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM. I reserved a truck a month before I needed it. The Friday before my move (I was moving on a Monday) I received an email that my reservation was cancelled. I had to call to find out that it was cancelled because they were not going to a have a truck available. I could not find another truck with such a short time frame, so I had to get a moving van from U-Haul. That complicated my move a lot! Their customer service is horrible and would not do anything to help you. Seriously, their last suggestion was go to Penske. Save yourself a headache and do business with a company that deserves it, like U-haul or Penske.

Not impressed with the service at all. The guy we dealt with was extremely unprofessional and unkept. I felt like I was dealing with a teenager at his first job. The guy had no etiquette. And he asked a customer returning a vehicle Could you go vacuum out the rental? It would make my day alot easier. The customer was taken aback and so was I. Typically a rental place does not ask you to do that and will clean it up themsleves. The gentleman declined the workers request as his wife was outside ready to pick him up. I have used the local Uhaul place in the past and will go back to them next time. They also arent always the most efficient with getting people in and out but atleast they have some professionalism. This Budget is sketchy if you ask me.
Hard People To Work With.
As some of the other posts and reviewers have stated, I had made a reservation for my truck and car carrier a few weeks in advance of my moving. When I arrived at the store, the truck was available, but the car carrier was still in Olathe. The Manager at the store, Christian, was not happy about this and stated that the Budget Area office in Kansas City, who manages all the reservations, has repeatedly not fulfilled reservations and inconvenienced customers. The KC office had even sent his one employee to another location that day, leaving him alone in the shop. He then offered me a substantial price reduction on the rental package and a free dolly rental if I would drive the truck to Olathe and retrieve the car carrier myself. Since I had some time available, I agreed. Christian was very helpful, and gave me as much customer service as he could under the circumstances. I think this is an example of a local franchise store that tries to do the best they can, but has been hampered by an incompetent Area office. YMMV.

I have used them twice, and both times I get there and the truck I rented wasnt there so they gave me a complimentary upgrade to a larger truck. I didnt need a larger truck. Driving those things is terrifying and had WAY too much space in the back for what I had.
Not happy with budget. Other location gave 1 star. This one at least tried to help a bit.
Called to TRY and rent a small truck. First the guy on the other end barley spoke english. and was like speaking to a robot. very unfriendly. so i hung up and will try someone else
