Powls came through in a lot of ways for me. Their rates are high, but the work is good. They touched base at every step of the way to be certain I was aware of costs and wanted to go further. They diagnosed the issue and ordered components to repair it. Presently, the speedometer wanders from the exact speed after I pass 45; this is one of the things it was there for. After a rather expensive bill, I feel it should have left their facility in perfect condition, but I reached out to Powls, and they shared how I can make adjustments on my own until the gap closes. Beyond that, I am very pleased and impressed with this professional, courteous company. They have what you need!

Took my car (2009 Dodge Challenger) to a large dealership in the area and they couldnt fix my issues, so they referred me to Powls... and Im so glad they did! I had a few electronic issues in the dashboard and they fixed my issue so quickly (only 2 days!) and updated me at each step of the way. The prices were very fair (much cheaper than the dealership) and the service was excellent! They also did a tune-up and inspection/emissions when it was there and it was also much cheaper than I was quoted from the dealership. Im so happy with the service and will definitely be a return customer... and will also refer others to Powls too! If I could give them more than 5 stars I would because Im very satisfied with them and appreciated their quick and excellent customer service!!!

8/11/2021 Responding to Powls response:I gave my initial review, kept it simple, stated my disappointment. I feel that your response gives credence to my sad experience. It is obvious from your response that you do not understand my frustrations. Anyone checking this review can judge for themselves how Powl/you will treat them if they encounter a problem.1. I DID talk to POWL about the problem. I have texts, phone logs. I talked to one tech and Robin and was told me that the owner needed to get back from vacation before Powl can give a response/estimate, which was the quote for a new engine of 5K. Saying that I didnt talk to you about this is not accurate. I updated Robin regularly and frequently. Not once was I rude or made any ugly suggestions or remarks even in the midst of my frustration.2. Powl did not offer any other options or ways to work with me after telling me to repair the van for a HUGE bill or try to sell my car for parts to some how would be interested in my van. Robin, one of your people, suggested that I could find people who would be interested in my van for parts as option for not replacing the engine.3. Powl being in business for 94 years is irrelevant to the issue. What does your history have anything to do with this problem? I am even more disappointed and perplexed as to why you would accuse a customer of not talking to POWL or relied on Powls years in business to make a case for this poor experience? For example, Enron was in business from 1930-2001 and used its highly regarded reputation as a foundation of trust before it collapsed due to its fraudulent accounting scandal. I am not accusing you of being Enron or fraudulent accounting, just saying that the use of years of service as a defense is not appropriate here and may not be a good thing.Again, people reading this can judge for themselves.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Very mixed feelings, feeling very sad, will try to keep it simple.Long story short: Had check gauge light on and engine overheating, spent 2700 to take care of electronic cluster and overheating engine issues and other maintenance - new radiator, new spark plugs, new distributor, new belt, oil change. Several weeks later, engine overheated again, engine seized. Powl said it was a failure in intake gasket that caused coolant to leak and engine failure, will cost 5000 to repair (1800 for engine and 3200 for labor). Disappointed that they missed this intake gasket, I would have rather spent money fixing it when they had changed all eight spark plugs and did all the initial work. Today, I sent the van that was my work beast to Tri Town Salvage with lots of new parts.Back story: Powl was good with speedometer work. I had that done one a previous vehicle so when my mechanic recommend that I go to them for electronic cluster work on my 2001 GMC Savana because check gauge light was on and engine was over heating and they couldnt handle that work, so thats why I gave them a try.

I own an automotive shop and needed an odometer programmed and key relearned. The local VW dealer could not do it, the closest instrument cluster shop could not do it, a nearby VW specialist could not do it, but the staff and techs at Powls got it done! I needed new tires and I was uncomfortable going out with the virus lock down, Powls came and picked up my car, and returned it the next day with my new tires. The people were pleasant to deal with and did not pressure me to get anything I did not need. I would certainly go back to them for future service. It is hard to find a company willing to give you great service no matter how large or small your problem.

Was introduced to Powls earlier this year, to get my Cluster repaired on my Tahoe. Thats when I learned they were a Full service garage. Since then theyve been my main garage for my vehicles. As a matter of fact, my daughters Toyota needed a new radiator. The manufacturer they use for parts had provided two faulty radiators, but third one was a charm. Through the whole process Powls was understanding of our frustration and did their best to get it situated correctly for something out of their control. Theyre a great group.

I called on the phone regarding the odometer on my 05 Dodge Ram either being dim or out, depending and I was told that the repair would be $130.00.prior to calling I looked on eBay at used ones and at other repair shops and this was less than some but equal with others. My benefit was that I could go there and wait for one hour (or so) for it to be repaired. It was worth it to me to get my same panel back with exact mileage so I drove for 2 hours each direction plus 1 hour wait only to be told that the repair would be approximately $298. I explained the phone quote, which the service signs reads $139 for repairs (yes $9 more than what I heard already) but they said I needed parts because the odometer isnt working. Well, that rings a bell, thats why Im there. I said Im through, I dont want the work done. To that they said you will owe us for a bench test. I said How much is that? She said $49. I wish I had left it there and walked out. There was zero regard for my time as well as my fuel.I came home (yes two hours back) found a repair shop through eBay closer to me than Powls and for $169 I will have a unit with the same part number and having the mileage to within 1000 miles of where my original was (to the best of my knowledge). If I wanted to drive there I could have and waited for the repair to be done at the same cost but this place burnt me out from that.

I sent them an electronic gauge pod from my sons 1987 Chrysler New Yorker. I was assured that they could rebuild it. I got the pod back and it was functioning worse than it did when I sent it. The only problem that it had originally was it would shut off intermittingly and the fuel gauge did not function. It currently has no functioning fuel gauge or temperature gauge. The speedometer was also not working. I took the car to my mechanic and he repaired the speedometer stating that it was a speed sensor. I cannot blame Powls for this. However, he also tested all of the connectors that go into the gauge pod and said that they were operating perfectly and that the problem was in the gauge pod itself. I had sent the gauge pod back to Powls at my expense only to have the tell me there was nothing wrong and that it was the connectors in the car. While the lady that I spoke with was very nice and trying to be helpful her solution was to try and find a replacement pod at my expense. I will likely take the pod somewhere else to get it repaired since I have little faith in their technicians ability to repair it. Unfortunately it was a $400 lesson that I had to learn the hard way.

Great quality and service. I have a 2011 F150 which the speedometer would not go below zero after replacing a dead battery. Shops closer to me wanted to either replace the entire instrument cluster with new or ship my unit out for repair and wait 2 weeks for its return. I considered buying a used unit but besides needing to change the odometer reading, the used unit would have to be programed to work in my truck. The Powls staff was excellent to work with, they removed the cluster, tested and found the problem and gave me a quote to repair. I live about 45 minutes from the shop so I waited, it took 3 hours to repair, the same time frame they told me up front. Cost was around $350 but that was in range of replacing with a used cluster without programming and well under the new replacement cost.Powls repairs instrument clusters from all over the country, any year, any make/model plus motorcycle instruments. When I first called them about my issue, they were 100% confident they can make the repair whereas everyone else was skeptical. They can handle any electrical instrumentation issue you have, will definitely keep them in my contacts as the go to place in the future.

Superb service! - With an unusual car (a British 1984 TVR 280i), I was looking for a company to repair my speedometer that had been annoyingly bouncing for years - providing me an estimated speed that would vary between plus/minus 30 MPH at any given moment. On searching the internet, I came across Powels Speedometer in Lancaster, PA - and drove the car 60 miles there. They repaired the speedometer as well as the oil pressure gauge (which had not been working correctly in years) and replaced all the bulbs in the instrument panel (which are hard to find). I cannot thank Powels sufficiently. Straightforward and a true delight to deal with - Powels is a gem and well worth taking your car to!NHG (Phoenix, MD)

Excellent customer and repair service!Five shops Id contacted refused the work due to the difficulty of my requested repairs. However, Powls happily accepted the instrument cluster from my automatic transmission, 1992 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce. Assuming it would take months and cost significantly more than it did, I shipped my instrument pod to Powls. Less than a week later, Powls called with a reasonable cost estimate and assured me the repairs would be completed in days, not months. True to their promise, the instruments were repaired and returned within a week -- but not before the technician went above and beyond by diagnosing and fixing an extensive electrical fault Id not previously known about.Im very grateful for Powls integrity and expertise. You will not find a finer shop or better folks to deal with.

Powls called me within a couple weeks with final cost. I paid, they shipped, it works. I could not be happier, especially when other businesses never even returned emails or calls. Wasnt impressed / rather disappointed. I hate leaving poor reviews, but perhaps this will help save folks time, money, & effort. I took my unit to Powls to have a speedometer gauge repaired as I tried to support a local business, which the owner (Rick) ultimately did. They said that it would take 2 weeks. Two weeks came and no response. I called for a follow-up and was told it would take another week. I waited to hear from them. No call. I called them and the unit even hasnt been started on yet. I informed them that I would need it soon. So, Rick gets after it & it takes him all but 2 hours to complete the work. Why wait 3 weeks & they cant even call their customers out of common courtesy? Anyhow, I install the unit back in my car. Now, the ammeter gauge & a whole panel of gauges are now not working (they all worked just fine prior to my dropping the unit off at Powls). I tried to tweak it to save me from dissembling the unit and driving it back up to the shop an hour away but to no avail as a mounting screw threading on the back was stripped out. Honestly, the stripped thread was my fault. When I tried to explain to Rick that though I appreciate him repairing the speedometer gauge, the new issue is that I have 4-5 other gauges that now arent working since Powls worked on my unit. He sent an accusatory text back in all CAPS with abrupt exclamation marks accusing me of misc. odds / ends (when I called the next day just to inquire when he may be in next, Rick was away but already called his shop to tell the receptionist that if I call be ready for me. Which, she was just as blunt and rude in relaying his message). I tried to coax Rick with a lot of lol in the text responses by simply describing this new issue with the 4-5 gauges that now went out since he worked on the unit. Nothing I said was attacking him in any way - simply stating this new development. Whew. So, I take the unit back up. Two weeks later wait time, he puts in a new ammeter mounting assembly on the back for another $200 (again, we wait 2 weeks but it only takes 2 hours for him to do the work). I drive an hour one way to pick it up and hour back. Install it. Still the same problem. I then drive another 2 hours round trip. In person, I tried to explain how the gauges were reading when installed in the car. He looks at the unit, flops the whole unit down on its face upon the counter without respect of someones property, & rudely says, So, you going to let me look at it or not? I should have just walked out. We did a bench test and it passed. But, the ammeter needle still wasnt right. Yet, I paid him $200 to make right. To wrap this up, I informed him that I believe that the problem is a faulty counterweight in the ammeter gauge. No response and he wouldnt communicate with me further beyond that. Turns out, I (being an amateur) was correct - it was a faulty counterweight in the ammeter gauge after all. But, according to their website advertisement, Powls is supposedly, here to meet all your electronic control and automotive maintenance needs. We are the experts, in new and old instrument clusters, etc. Our goal and mission is: To serve our customers with the highest degree of excellence and integrity. To provide the best possible service, equipment and training available. To remain focused on the ever-changing technology that will effect our customers. To harness this technology and bring it to our customers in the form of new products and services. Well, they obviously failed & I dont expect that Ill get my $200 back. Plus, quality customer service doesnt constitute being cocky and arrogant. Can I now claim that I am an expert & certified technician too since I figured out the problem? Powls didnt even show any appreciation that I drove 2 hours round-trip MULTIPLE times. Anyhow, word of mouth is crucial in any business. Would I recommend Powls? No. To customers thinking about Powls, save yourself the trouble and go onto a chat forum and find a shop that *specializes* in your specific vehicle - even if you have to mail it out.

After a botched job by the ford dealership, we needed our instrument cluster reprogrammed with the correct mileage. And one of our keys reprogrammed. They recommended Powls. (Wish they would have just told us to go there from the start but we assumed a ford dealership would know what they are doing.)Initially, there was a misunderstanding about the work that was required to reprogram the instrument cluster and the quote was not throughly explained over the phone. The work was completed in a timely manner and when we went to pick up the vehicle the owner attempted to explain the seemingly excessive charges. Eventually, we were able to come to an agreement.Powls did a great job correcting fords screw up. I would recommend them for any kind of instrument cluster work. Just make sure you get a good explanation of the charges beforehand.

I stopped to verify and they would sell me the gear for $30. again I found the item at a shop via the web and purchased it for $5.90. I will never again attempt to use their shop. I understood the brakes, so I picked it up and rescheduled it for Monday, stressing that it needed done by the end of the day. Dropped it off Monday, by 4 pm, no call. I called and they said it wouldnt be done that day. I said it was unacceptable and it would need done the following day.
