At first, I liked going to Serenity. That isn’t something I’ve said very often about many health providers. After my first appointment, I left optimistic and hopeful about the future. I was given a new diagnosis and new prescription to better manage my mental health and I was very surprised to see how much I had improved. That’s now quickly changed. The people in the office are pleasant enough to your face, but when it comes time for you to get their help with anything, they beat around the bush and drag their feet. All the while, they’re on the phone with fake sympathetic voices telling you they can’t do anything else, when you know for a fact they can, they just don’t want to. It doesn’t matter how soft or high you make your voice when lying to someone. You aren’t nice just because you’re quieter.I’ve had to have a prior authorization from my insurance refilled out every single refill or change in prescription because Serenity has not been able to get the paperwork right on their end. I’ve now officially spent hundreds of dollars OUT OF pocket because they simply will not call my insurance company as requested. They haven’t answered fax messages from my insurance, haven’t provided additional requested information, and haven’t returned forms as requested. I’ve personally called and had to act as the middleman three times in the last week, still with no results because of SERENITY employees not wanting to do their jobs. I’ve asked for a call back multiple times and have not received it. I’ve asked to speak to an office manager or my doctor and have not been connected nor my messages left for them returned. It’s been two weeks. I do this every month. They know that and do not care.
The image of the Lakewood location was superb. I particularly loved the waterfall wall. Front desk staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. Dr. Gower listened to me and what I had to say. He definitely seems to care about his patients mental health and well being. I look forward to coming back next month !
The staff at the Lakewood facility was extremely helpful and accommodating, and all of the team members I encountered demonstrated a high level of professionalism. The office has a clean, modern design esthetic and the building was easily accessible with ample parking available.
Great first experience at this clinic. I called on a Monday, they got me in on Wednesday and was able to establish care/treatment. It was a quick, yet thorough and stress free visit. Highly recommended.
Dr Johnson is absolutely wonderful. Always takes as long as I need to help me manage my conditions, and even took the time to explain a bunch of test results that my regular doctor did not. I cant recommend this team highly enough.
I want to start by saying the office is beautiful and Tonga (TMS tech) is awesome and the front desk staff are nice. Those are my positive takeaways. Unfortunately those are not enough to sway me to a positive option of this practice.I was a patient of Dr. Montez for the latter half of 2020 and prior to her maternity leave. She is a nice person. However, most of my appointments started late and only lasted about 10 mins, if that. Even my initial appointment was less than 30 mins. I was mostly in for medication management/maintenance but I still feel as though a prescribing provider should take the time to get to know the patient a bit. Especially if I am paying a $50 copay and still not achieving desired results.I was also talked into doing TMS treatment last year and was told that it was covered by Cigna. Yes, shame on me for not calling Cigna to verify my coverage. It was covered, but I didnt realize I would be responsible for 20% co-insurance after my deductible. That adds up when treatments are hundreds of dollars per session. And NO ONE (not Serenity, not Cigna) told me that I was quickly racking up a balance until I asked about halfway through the 8 week treatment after Id checked my EOBs. By then my balance was already at almost $1000 and I had to choose to quit while I could afford to or keep going and do a payment plan. I opted for the latter, hopeful that I might see some benefit from the treatment. However, I did not and am spending over a year paying off the treatment.Had I been told up front how much the treatment would cost me, I NEVER would have agreed. I believe it is some seriously shady business practices not to be overtly transparent about treatment costs. Especially in a mental health care setting. I am left with more anxiety than I started with now that I have an extra payment to add to my monthly expenses for a treatment that gave me little to no benefit.Lessons learned: call your insurance and dont trust this place to be up front about any costs associated with their pricey treatments.
I would highly recommend not going here for treatment or medication. What they do is not ethical.I realized that I was running low on my medication this week and didn’t have any refills. That is normally your indication that you are due for a medication review. I would also like to note my doctor calls in 6 -10months at a time. When I called to schedule an appointment for a review and refill I had to schedule it 19 days out because I am having surgery in 4 days and will not be in a condition to drive or be up and walking around. My doctor, Dr. Johnson is also out of the office next week. I asked if they could call me in a prescription just for the days I would not have medication until my visit.I received a phone call that my bridge request was denied (3 days later right before my surgery leaving no chance for an appointment or meeting with my GP) because I have missed 6 months of appointments. I have never had an appointment scheduled but would receive a call once in awhile asking how I was doing and if I needed to be seen. When I reiterated that I am having surgery they told me they put me on a cancellation list so that I can come in next week if someone cancels. Again....... I’ll be recovering from a surgery and will not be able to drive or move around. My doctor is also out next week.I also explained that my medication causes withdrawal when not taken....... and they agreed, those symptoms are vomiting, body aches, and seizers. You can also imagine my Surgeons dismay when I called to ask how that would hinder my recovery.I was told this is their policy after missed visits and a supervisor would contact me.....that never happened.I have been on medication for 17 years and have never had a doctor refuse to fill a 12 pill prescription of a daily depression medication (wellbrutrin XL) that someone has been taking for years because they can’t come in due to extenuating circumstances.Find yourself a flexible and reliable doctor or mental health organization. It should not be this difficult for someone to be responsible and stay on their meds. It should also not be this difficult to find quality care for our illnesses. The fact we are covered under the Americans Disabilities Act but are victims to a franchise medical office looking to just bill your insurance for a visit is appalling. If I did miss appointments...and not up to date, how was I able to refill in June?Update: GP to the rescue. My prescription were filled no problem over the phone. I am also never going back to this chop shop of a mental health organization.
Dr. Eric French seems to care deeply about finding a solution to my issues. He has been extremely friendly and personable and I couldnt ask for more.
I just started going here three months ago and the experience has been great. I have avoided a psychiatrist office for 10 years but decided it was time to get a little assistance. They made the experience comfortable and easy so far.
Dr. Gower really took the time to get to know me and help me start to make a plan for better mental health! The rest of the staff was also Amazing!
My appointment was made 3 weeks in advance, I showed up 30 minutes early only to be told that they were running 2 hours late. They asked if i wanted to reschedule but the next appointment would’ve been in a couple of weeks as well. I paid for an hour consultation with Dr. Gower but only ended up talking for around 25 minutes. I came with the intent to get tested for ADHD but it was dismissed as he thought my depression was the cause for my inability to pay attention. Now I have to wait another month to bring up the ADHD again. I feel that I didn’t get to talk or just wasn’t listened to
My initial experience has been nothing short of impressive. Making an appointment was easy/fast (got in the same week) and the intake call was relatively quick and definitely pleasant. The facility itself was new and modern (quite pretty on the inside, honestly). The clinical support staff were all very pleasant and welcoming.Dr. Derek Johnson was also welcoming, compassionate, intelligent and well spoken, as well as easy to talk too.I had an issue with a prescription on a Saturday (originally written/given on a Friday evening), and the phone staff as well as Dr Johnson saw to it that it was completely resolved by the end of that day, that same Saturday (a day off of his).Wow.This was my first experience with a Psychiatrist, and will definitely be referring anyone in need, in my circle.
They try to push TMS on you and have complete disregard for your prescription care. I am a mother of 3, I would always call if I could not show up. Message was never relayed and they faulted me for No call no show. Long hold times. I felt so abandoned my my Dr. Jennifer French. Very traumatic experience. Nice waiting room areas. Fancy. No real ethical care here.
I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience so far with Dr French specifically, but the office management is a disaster. Prepare to spend at least 20-30 minutes on hold as its impossible to get ahold of anyone for any reason, and getting a call back is a 50/50 chance. My medications were never submitted to my pharmacy after my first appt, and it took 3 calls over the span of a week to get anyone to fix it because it wasn’t even entered into their system. When my insurance declined one of them based on the quantity, I called three separate times to get this taken care of and just never heard back, so had to go a month without my meds. Fast forward to my second appointment, I showed up only to be told they had left me a voicemail to notify me the doctor was at least 30-40 minutes behind (they didnt) after I drove 45 minutes from work to get to this appointment. For a mental health office, they make the experience of getting your mental health on track unnecessarily difficult.
Extremely caring and wonderful staff they take the time to listen to you and actually consider your thoughts and feelings regarding why youre there. I wouldnt go to another facility if you paid me to!
My name is Linda. I have been to so many specialists in over 15 years. They’ve put me on different meds and I just seemed to never be on the right path. It was frustrating. The first day I saw Dr. Johnson, he was so soft spoken. Which if I’m honest, that had me on edge lol he came across so understanding and patient. I shared an experience regarding the dr that referred me to him (ironically) and Dr. Johnson not only validated me as a patient but he also did as a person. he prescribed me the right medicine and treatment. Just with the conversation he saved my life that first visit and he didn’t even know it. Thereafter, he still made a drastic change in my life. I am so thankful to him. His staff is AMAZING! Ana the RN is the best nurse I’ve ever met. She’s so genuine and sweet! I absolutely love Ana. She oversaw my ketamine treatments. She’s so encouraging and thoughtful. I 100% recommend Serenity Mental Health Centers. I personally go to the Lakewood location.
I have never been to any mental health professional before but after seeing the symptoms of inattentive ADHD I was pretty sure I had it. As a woman in my late 20s who always did well in school and has a college degree I was a little worried because other people with my experience found it hard to be diagnosed. Dr Johnson was incredibly insightful and helpful and after less than a month on a medication that i felt side effects were outweighing the benefits he did not hesitate to prescribe a different medication for me to try. I’m so glad to have found this practice as I put off scheduling an appointment forever because of anxiety but if you are reading this review I would say just do it!!
Definitely cant recommend this place. Ive made 10+ calls today with them and my pharmacy asking them to resend not transfer my RX. They refused to listen and now Im frustrated without medication. Unfortunately not very good for my mental health.
I saw Dr. Derek Johnson. He’s absolutely phenomenal. He helped me with anxiety and autism. I felt like he truly valued me as a patient and worked hard to find me the answers I needed. The front desk was friendly to me, and they handled my insurance issues promptly. I’m sorry others have had issues in the reviews, but for me I honestly would recommend this place to anyone.
Went with dr Johnson about 3-4 times he was a good dr and I liked how everything was going until one day i missed an appointment and tried to reschedule I got a new phone number and what not but they said I missed 4-5 appointments and dropped me as a client instead of updating my contact info and continuing business they said they can no longer see me and forced me to go to another psychiatrist therefor I do not recommend this place they just give you whatever you ask for medicine wise and send you on your way they are nice but all they care about is the $ not the patients
After feeling like all psychiatrists do is push pills, Dr. French restored my faith in mental health doctors. She listened to everything I had to say and made me feel like she actually really cared about me. We kept talking until we found a treatment I was comfortable with. Highly recommend any Dr. French to any person or friend.
This place has changed my life for the better. Doctor Montez is caring, kind and a great listener. She cares about her patients with passion in her heart. You won’t be disappointed. Thank you Doctor Montez for the great work you do
No.If you want to pay 400 per k treatment (there are 12) its your spot. If you want to be heard and actually get help... keep looking.
I’d add more detail about my appointment- if it ever happened. I called Friday (it is now Monday) to make an appointment for today. She said she had me down for an appointment in Lakewood. No confirmation call, text, or email, so I called at 8am today to confirm, my appointment was confirmed with me, and when I went into the clinic and they didn’t even have me in their system. I’m utterly confused and will not be seeking treatment at this clinic due to lack of communication or ANY record keeping, even just making a consultation appointment. Serenity, I’m not sure if you use a call center, but you probably shouldn’t.
I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Montez. She was very easy to talk to and was able to help me come up with a new treatment plan that is really helping me. The office manager was also very helpful when I was uncertain about some of the treatments in the beginning. He was kind and took his time talking to me to answer my questions.
Dr. French at Serenity in Lakewood was great, in the one appointment I had with her. However, the rest of the organization is so horrendously mismanaged that I strongly suggest looking elsewhere. I made 10 calls into Serenitys Utah-based call center (the only way to reach anyone in the organization) to get a prescription updated and Im now on day 3 of not having my medication as the team at Serenity seems either unwilling or unable to communicate with each other. I have had several issues with their lack of note-taking and record keeping but their inability to properly update a prescription means I will be looking elsewhere from now on.
This is NOT a review of Dr. Johnson as I felt he was very thorough, kind and attentive (5 stars). This review is for the front desk. They had someone training but there was a lack of greeting. She looked up and said “what’s your last name,”. No hello, how are you. When going through the paperwork I felt even more triggered by the hostility. Upon saying thank you, I was blatantly ignored, however when another patient came in and expressed gratitude she was responded back to with a “you’re welcome”. Lack of awareness and the way you talk and respond to people can trigger them to feel bad.I am quick to feel bad when people are short and unfriendly, but I have to be honest- it really affected the way I felt going into my appointment and about this practice.Kayleigh (hope I spelled it right), saved me from continuing to have a bad check in process. She was funny, kind, and professional.I was personally referred by my doctor who vouched for the clinic and drove down from Lone Tree, so I didn’t exactly expect that.Silver lining is that Dr. Johnson and Kayleigh were great and it had a positive impact on me.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️In a world where people are dealing with so much it is important to be cognizant of your tone and your manners. You never know what people are going through... especially when they walk through those doors looking for help.
Ive had three appointments cancelled in the last 5 months of being a patient here. Center is short staffed so Im now unable to schedule another appointment until June. My prescription is out in 7 days though. Center said they couldnt refill my prescription unless I had an appointment so I guess Im screwed! Thanks for nothing Serenity Mental Health
I had a great first appointment and a very easy time making an appointment for the same week!
