Awesome I bring my son here. He loves it and I will sign him up soon for a permanent sport for him.
Nice Fencing club. Well outfitted. Good coaches
I travel from las Vegas for a tournament, i spent more than $2000 dlls. And one day before the tournament they cancelled for a inexistent heat wave. What a way to treat fencers who struggle to go to competitions. Never going back, and i hope that no one goes to next competition in the place.
My son really loved his week long summer camp.
We heard about the Metro Tacoma Fencing club through an announcement sent by the school district. Considering kids had been away from school for a year with COVID, we thought this would be a great opportunity to get a bit of physical activity in, let our son have some interactions with other kids, and do something positive. Unfortunately, unless you are super interested in tournaments and competition, I can’t recommend taking your kid to the club. Coach Chris is who taught the classes on weekends and who we experienced. He is all about competing and if you aren’t interested or gung-ho about attending competitions, he will be pretty dismissive. Additionally, his attitude towards the kids is fairly unforgiving – “I’ve shown you this before” is a common statement. Like kids should be able to get something the first time in general, but it shows a complete lack of empathy for the situation kids have been in for the past year especially. School from home, minimal activity options, lack of that time spent with friends at school, etc. Again, we thought this would just be a great experience and something new and fun to try, but is run like competition is the end all, be all of being there. Maybe that’s fine if that’s your goal, but if you just want to try fencing out, or are just looking for a fun activity, I’d avoid it. Saw a lot of kids in the 2 months we were there that did not attend regularly, guessing they also weren’t digging the competition focused vibes but can’t speak. Additionally, a small point, is that Chris is pretty focused on the rules, on doing things right, etc. when it comes to the kids, but then is pretty lax with himself – had his dog running around at one point with food and water dishes out at the front door entrance. Again, small point, but seemed a double standard as far as leniency with himself, and for himself, but unsupportive of the kids when they aren’t doing something right – that “I’ve shown you this before” comment and attitude. Finally, the club will rent gear with a deposit – when we returned gear today we asked for some kind of receipt or something in writing that we dropped everything off. Chris acted like this was a ridiculous request and refused to give us anything. When pressed, he handed us a blank piece of paper and said fill it out yourself if you want me to sign it. Just reinforced we were making the right decision.
If you want to learn how to stab people this is the best place to do it! But actually I do really recommend this place for fencing no matter what age or what type of fencing they got something for you!
My Granddaughter went to a Summer Fencing Camp and absolutely loved it!!!
My kids love this place
Great team!
Great coaching, wonderful environment!
My son started fencing here and the coach and staff have helped him be competitive and he has improved immensely.
Great fencing club. Provides everything you need from recreational fencing to competative.
Awesome club for both recreational and competative fencers.
