Love the Yak Shack...Great rentals for kayak and SUP. River is quiet. Lake is fun. Many beautiful homes and boats to admire on your way.
This place is amazing! Staff are all very helpful and friendly. Definitely worth the price, Came back to try SUP and it was great!
Easy to book online and the staff was courteous. First time kayaker
Great, my first time kayaking and it was super nice loves it
Great first time experience! Helpful, cheerful staff and a gorgeous day to be on the water.
Great, friendly service and beautiful location.
I have used this service multiple times. Easy to book online, but spots will fill up quickly! Plan ahead and book in advance. Safety was taken seriously and the rules were easy to understand. Fun experience and very fair prices. They were so helpful when they allowed me to cancel a booking due to weather and promptly gave me a refund. A fun little activity.
No better option for canoeing and kayaking in Cleveland! The best part about the location is that you have the option of spending all of your time in the river of the marina or you can paddle out to Lake Erie at the end of the river where you are free to boat!I would recommend checking the weather in advance because if the wind gets too fierce they wont let you out into the Lake because of unsafe water conditions. The staff here is super helpful and really informed about everything going on so it is really easy to check in, have it all explained, and then get going rather quickly! Pricing may seem a little high, but compared to other places it is very reasonable and there are also lots of different rental options you can look through.
Had my first kayaking experience here today. The staff was fantastic. Friendly, helpful, and did a great job with instructions. Social distancing was followed and the equipment was clean and in good condition. The Lake was a little too rough for paddling, so we had to stay on the river, which was just about right for a one-hour paddle. Can’t wait to come back for a longer rental and a trip on the big water. :)
Brought my own kayak. No problem. Daughter rented one. Pre-registered on-line. Easy process. Good customer service. Great time on Lake!
Fun, clean and informative staff. Would definitely make sure the lake waves are calm if thats what you want. Good time either way.
The staff is amazing. I was so nerves and this one guy was so patient and calmed me down. I had the most amazing time. I recommend it for everybody.
Absolutely love this place. The Rocky River is calm but if you feel more advance you can hit lake Erie. The crew is always nice and very flexible!
Best place to a rent a kayak or SUP in Cleveland! Online booking makes it a quick and easy to reserve a kayak or paddleboard. Super professional staff makes check-in a breeze and will get you on the water.
What fun to rent a kayak and be outside on the water. Great people work there.
This is a great place to rent kayaks for those who dont want to invest in their own or spend time lugging a kayak from there home and mounting it to a roof rack. You can rent single kayaks, tandems, or SUP. Prices are reasonable and are based on the amount of time you spend on the water. Best summer activity to enjoy on Lake Erie!
Excellent experience from start to finish. Located along the Rocky River, just a short paddle away from the mouth of Lake Erie. Very scenic views, including a pretty laid back river area lined with ledges, boat clubs and some really cool waterfront homes. The experience out on the lake is fun for all skill levels and the views are at times breathtaking. The online ordering system is very easy to book reservations, pay and even sign safety documents with. Prices are pretty decent. They also have tutorial videos for beginners or anyone who hasnt been out kayaking in a while and just needs a refresher. Staff on site is incredibly friendly and everyone seems to really enjoy their jobs, which makes visiting for a relatively novice kayaker like me a really good experience.Ample parking because they are located right next to a small boat launch area with a little marina and even a restaurant, all within the confines of the beautiful Cleveland Metroparks. I felt very comfortable leaving my belongings with them while we headed onto the water.Just be sure to stick to the rules of the road and keep to your right, out of the way of oncoming water traffic and boats.Coronavirus note: 41 North is really good about practicing recommended guidelines regarding social distancing and mask wearing. This is all outlined on their website. In person, they even have a station for sanitizing rented personal flotation devices and dry bags.
Great experience! Staff was friendly, informative, and great to work with. Absolutely will be going back and recommending to friends!
Best place to rent a kayak. The staff is incredible and deserve a raise for the hard work they are doing
Very cute little kayak place right on the river with excellent staff! We had such a good time and we will be back!!
Friendly and helpful staff, fun easy trip. Will definitely come back again this summer!
Good service. Very easy to book online (recommended as they do sell out). Only downside is if the lake is closed due to larger waves there is not a ton of areas to go. You can get a good hour paddle in but dont plan on spending multiple hours unless you can go onto the lake.Edit: Forgot to mention the part about the company offering to refund the difference if it is windy out. Another way they offer great service.
Very nice people, doing a great job with current conditions!
Very cool!
These guys are great. I made a reservation with these guys for the beginning of July and was really looking forward to getting out on the water. The staff at the hut was friendly and helpful. Got me walked through the safety refresher and out on the river in no time.I really enjoyed my experience with them and may go back for a class this season.I highly recommend these guys!
Outstanding. I took a large group for a birthday party. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. We had a great time paddle boarding and kayaking on the river.
Great staff! Free ramp too get in and out of river, if you bring your own kayaks. Wish they had a shuttle service though so you didnt have to travel back yourself. Plus there are people going both directions, which slightly limits how much of the river you get to experience. But overall, this is a great place to launch from.
The guys running the hut were very friendly and professional. We made our paddle board reservations online and signed the electronic waiver so when we showed up it was super easy and we were in the water about 5 minutes later. The river is a nice paddle and if the lake isnt too rough you can paddle out onto it. Highly recommend!
They’re annoying and their website is poorly made. I suggest making a reservation elsewhere. Make sure you’re 16!!!
Just sad Its winter!
I took my daughter, who is 8, there twice this week kayaking. The guys there did a great job explaining everything, were very personable, and made sure we had everything we needed. Easy paying process, gear/boats are in nice shape, and very affordable way to get on the water for a couple hours.Highly recommended.
Easy to reserve online, which you should. They are a busy place and often sell out on a daily basis when its nice out - get there early! If kayaks are available they will send you out earlier for the same price (We were scheduled 11a-12p and got to head out at 10:45). Friendly staff, easy to get to location.
The staff and rental process were great, but the river itself was very polluted. I found myself paddling my paddle board around a lot of trash and some dead fish. Also, with all of the larger boats going through, the water also had a faint smell of gasoline.I would really love to see your company and others nearby organize a river clean up.
I paddled a canoe (solo) many moons ago and on some interesting waterways, including the New River in West Virginia (only time I ever dumped). Fast forward: 2 kids later and 61 years old. Hadnt been on the water for 34 years. Forgot to mention the recent major back surgery 1.5 years ago.My son moved to Lakewood, Ohio and recently bought a kayak and with great pressure on me, I finally caved to trying kayaking. He treated me to a 2.5 hour rental and Im hooked. I found out a lot of things:1. Old dogs really can learn new tricks.2. Kayaking is so much fun and could be very addicting.3. I cant wait to go again. Most of all, I was impressed at the young people manning your rental cabin and kayaks. They were extremely pleasant, caring, thoughtful and really invested in whether I had a good time, or not. They wouldnt let me near the water until I understood safety measures and kindly gave this old gal an open kayak because it was easier for me to be comfortable with my back. We took tons of pictures and most of all, I got to enjoy another wonderful memory with my son.My only regret is that I didnt see t-shirts or hoodies for sale anywhere or I would have definitly bought one (or more) to commemorate the occasion. I cant wait to come back and rent another kayak and do it all over again. I may even partake of a class. Would love to go to Kelleys Island. I was so comfortable and remembered my old canoe strokes. The kayak strokes are similar. This is such a fun sport. Thanks for making it available to share with so many.See you soon,Debbie from Pennsylvania
Although it’s fun to boat downtown on the Cuyahoga River, this is the easiest place in the city to rent a kayak.
Easy to schedule online. Had my paperwork ready to go when I got there. Process of scheduling and getting in the water was easy. Kayak tracked well in the water.
Well run with very nice and relaxed staff. Highly recommend!
Pretty cheap to rent kayaks. Definitely go when the lake is open tho. It’s a lot of fun out there.
Very friendly staff. Efficient, outgoing, and helpful. Organized location and the website was easy to navigate. Thanks for a great time!
Never been kayaking before, and they were really helpful and kind. Reasonably priced and very relaxing. 10/10 recommend :)
First time renting there. Awesome! Staff was helpful and friendly. Definitely going to go back!
Pretty cool to be able to rent kayaks but there really isnt that far you can go.
I had one of the best kayaking experiences thanks to these guys! Yeah, you need a reservation, but is it THAT hard to plan ahead? I dont think so.
Love coming here to kayak. However, this past experience let me down a little. The employee who set us up never told us what time to be back or what time we went out so we were unaware what time we needed to be back. We enjoyed our day out and came back in and were confused where to put the kayak since no one told us. We came in on the wrong side and one of the employees told us we needed to get back in and move to the other side. No one ever helped us get back into the kayak so we had to carry the kayaks back to the stand and all of the employees were just sitting around. The other employee that helped us cash out was super nice I just wish there was better customer service
Well organized check in process and the kayaks were in great shape. Nice location and I would highly recommended coming here.
Members of the staff are happy to help you get started, even if youre not totally comfortable with kayaking. Id highly recommend this as a must-visit adventure for the summer and spring.
Great experience! Quick and easy rentals (we did the tandem kayak). Good rates, but can book up in the afternoon on a weekend.
We took our 7 and 9 year olds with us in tandem kayaks. Was very easy and fun. You can go in the river and lake Erie if you want.
Great location and good boats for rental
Awesome experience while in Cleveland whenever the weather allows, if you come to visit or live here year round you need check out this hidden gem!
Very poor customer service. Stood in front of the window before anyone spoke and would assist my group. Then were told if we didnt have a reservation we wouldnt be able to rent a Kayak. We then waited in line again to try and make a reservation for the next day and no one would assist us. All the employees were walking around gossiping not attending to any customers. When someone finally did speak with us she said you already spoke with someone. Like if I didnt still need assistance I wouldnt be standing here!In the end went to Great Lakes Water Sports on the West Bank of the Flats. They have awesome customer service!
Great place to rent a Kayak!
It was great! Employees are courteous and helpful and know their jobs well.
Awesome and friendly staff, we had a blast and cant wait to kayak from here again!!!
Best customer service. Let you go out early. Make reservations on line ! They sell out daily! Very helpful!
Super friendly and provided first aid for a bee sting (was stung walking through the parking lot). Unique veiws of Lakewood and Rocky River.
A great place for beginners
Good customer service but now you need reservations...never needed them in the past. That sucks cause my family really enjoyed doing this last summer!!!!
Awesome staff of people at The Shak. Very helpful & knowledgable. They will get you on the water in no time!
All of the employees were very personable and they are located in a great location!
This was a great time on the water
Went paddle boarding, staff was friendly and encouraging I recommend others to try it out
Had a great time, looking forward to next years season. A big difference when you go all the way out to the lake.
Informative and friendly staff! We had a great time!
Good place.
My favorite kayak rental place in the area.
As long as he dont need the kayak back hell let you keep it out on the water for as long as you want
The staffs are nice and knowledgeable. They will get you in the water in no time!
My phone died after my kayak capsized in Lake Erie and Im still giving 41 North 5 stars because they are awesome.
First come first serve, every time I have been there without a reservation thats how it worked. This time I get there when they open and was told that I need a reservation on the weekends. Right! never before has this ever happen.
Had a great time! Staff is friendly, and theres plenty of water.
Decent gear, but incredibly expensive for a paddle through some scuzzy marina water. Better off taking a ride out to Camp Hi or Mohican.
A great and peaceful break from the insanity of todays world.
Reasonable prices and great service. Very friendly!
So much fun, kayaks or paddle boards.
Wish I discovered this earlier
Fun boat ride experience
Rude staff. If I could, Id give it ZERO STARS
The scenery is great ;)
Really nice having this near by me
Very unprofessional.
Good and fast service
Website is horrible and never lets you book anything from site.
A little pricey for rentals.
Affordable fun!
Great fun!
Only used the boat ramp
Great price
People are nice but it is kind of boring
I did kayak for the first time
Paddle boarding
