Gaby did a beautiful job on my wedding dress alterations, which were done in a timely manner. Her as well as her husband are very friendly. She filmed a very thorough tutorial for my mother/bridesmaids who are from out of town to help put up and take down the bustle, and even helped me clean my dress after I accidentally got makeup on it while putting it on. Her alterations make me love my dress even more, and I will definitely be back for any future work I need!
The alteration itself (I needed 2inches taken off some straps of a dress) was fast and, overall, not horrible. But—after seeing the finished product—I realized I could have done the equivalent by hand. When I picked up my dress, the very first thing I noticed was a dark lipstick-appearing stain on the neckline, almost as if someone had held the dress in their mouth while working on the straps. I showed this to the owner, simply asking if this was something that could be removed/ how I should go about spot cleaning this delicate fabric. I was met with a, “That stain must have been there and you didn’t notice.”
Gaby Couture altered a prom dress for my daughter. When we picked up the dress, the top part was a little tight. The seamstress didnt blink an eye and let the top out in 24 hours. She also fixed the hem of the dress that I thought was fine, but with which she was not happy. Very friendly people that pay attention to detail. I highly recommend Gabby Couture.
I have used Gabys for years now, recently she tailored my wedding gown. She did the most beautiful job, I couldnt have been happier
We are always very pleased with the work that Gabby does... Love being welcomed in her shop and the time she takes with every item we bring her she does an amazing job.. Timely and professional..
I took my wedding dress to Gaby Couture at the recommendation of the bridal shop where I purchased my dress. I needed it hemmed, taken in, straps shortened, and cups added to the top. I knew it was a significant amount of work, but the $560 price tag still shocked me. Payment was due up front before the work was completed, which again was surprising but I paid any way. When the day came for my final fitting I received a call that it wasnt quite ready and to come the next day instead. Again, this was fine. I arrived at my appointment and tried my dress on. The first thing I noticed was the belt that had been tacked onto my dress was very obviously crooked. Once I measured it, it was off by 1/2 of an inch. The next thing I noticed was that the cups were not put into the dress. The top of my dress still did not fit in the top. The woman kept telling me how good it looked and how pretty it was. I immediately got a sense of dread that I hated the way I looked in the dress and I couldnt wait to leave. After I had some time to collect my thoughts, I came back the next day. I told the woman that the cups were not put in my dress and that it didnt fit. She told me that I should have bought cups for her to put in. I said I didnt know that and she told me that she told me that when I gave her the dress to begin with. I am hearing impaired so between that and the language barrier, it is possible I misunderstood, but I still would have expected her to say something about it either during the call to tell me it wasnt ready (obviously, since work wasnt done) or when I picked it up and left with the dress, no mention of adding cups. Im just really disappointed in the whole experience. After looking the dress over more, there are loose threads everywhere, the bustle is confusing and not easy to do, and its just overall sloppy work. For such a high price tag, I expected it to be exactly as I wanted. Now I will have to pay someone else to finish the job before my wedding.
This is the best seamstress I have ever been to! They fixed my bridesmaid dress so fast and with amazing quality. Highly recommend for evening, prom, or wedding dresses!
Gaby is SO NICE. Let me say that upfront. But I was so upset with the alterations she did on my wedding dress. When I bought my dress, it was my dream dress, but when I picked it up from Gaby I hated it. I am so upset when I look through my wedding photos because my dress looks frumpy, ill-fitted, and misshapen. She charged me $500 for alterations that ruined my dream wedding dress. Again, she was so kind and took me in to try and fix it last minute, but when I told her I still hated it she said she didnt even know how to fix it.
I was going to take my bridesmaid dress home without trying it on after hemming it but they insisted I try it on before leaving. Thank goodness because it was still a little long. They are going to fix it and have it done in time for the wedding. Very friendly and professional! Thank you!
So to start off, I want to state that I did not even BUY my wedding dress until we were 3 weeks out from our wedding. The dress I fell in love with was a sample size and about a size and a half too big and with so little time I was a little nervous about anyone being able to complete the work. I called Gaby’s the day after I bought my dress and they had me come in right away! The whole process was honestly so easy and stress free! Gaby is incredibly talented and made the sample dress look like a bespoke piece and her husband is incredibly kinda and personable! I cannot recommend Gaby’s enough! She does beautiful work!
My daughter’s prom dress was altered and they did an amazing job. They also made sure we understood how her bustle worked before we left, as it wasn’t a traditional bustle I’m used to. Great service
I cannot say enough good things about Gaby Couture. The alterations and bustle for my wedding gown turned out exactly as I wanted! She did an absolutely stunning job. Reasonably priced for the amount of alterations that needed to be done. I would recommend this place to anyone in need of an alteration job!
I havent recieved my tailored items yet, so if my opinion vastly changes Ill update my review. But wow, the tailor working was so sweet and helpful. She complimented me and it was overall just a lovely experience. I chose to have my items tailored because I want to have clothes that fit me properly!
Do not go here! They stained my NEW wedding dress and completely wrecked the bottom hem. When I pointed out the stains they said that my dress was not new and that I must’ve eaten in it. The only alteration they had to do was to shorten the length and there were stains on the bodice and down the front. Also stains around the bottom and seams not sewn together. When my fiancé went in to ask about them paying for the cleaners the seamstress got defensive and they called the police! The shop offered to take to the cleaners but couldn’t guarantee my dress would be done before my wedding and I refused to leave it there. Buyer beware!!!!!
Got my dress altered with gaby, they did a lovely job altering my wedding dress!
Great service, quality of work and timing!
I do not believe the price I was charged was fair for the alteration. I came in needing a floor-length lace dress hemmed because it was too long. The lady who assisted me was very kind and professional but I should have asked her how she planned on shortening the scalloped lace bottom. For $85 I assumed she was going to take it in at the waist, which had a seam, and adjust the width of the lace so that the silhouette would still fall nicely. In the end, the dress came out at the right length, but the lace bottom was simply cut and resewn so now there is a noticeable seam at the bottom of this beautiful dress. I understand that the lining also needed to be shortened, but altogether I think $40 is a more appropriate cost for the services provided. I will not be returning to Gaby Couture for future alterations.
Hands down the best place in town for all your alterations! Ive trusted them with all my suit alterations and theyve all been perfect. My wife has also had several flawless dress alterations done by them. We also trusted them with a vintage 30 year old baptism suit that was mine but wanted my boys to wear for their baptisms. They did an amazing job with this and handled this very delicate suit with the utmost of care! Danny and Gaby are both professional and personable; two of the most amazing people Ive done business with!
Quick and reliable service. Made alterations on my bespoke suit and I couldn’t be happier with the results.
$10 to get one pair of pants hemmed.
Gaby did the bustle and other alterations to my dress. It was perfect for my wedding day and she had it done quickly! I had it there 5 weeks away from my wedding, which I knew I was cutting it close to getting it done but my dress had arrived late with all the COVID craziness. She had it done right on time and took a video of how to bustle so I would have for those who helped me.
I was asked plenty of times when my wedding was (10/03/2020) and they STILL did not remember. When on taking off of work that day on the day I was originally supposed to pick up my dress, I had the gut feeling to call before I drove all the way there. When upon answering they had my first name correct but thought that I was another Sarah which honestly freaked me out. After that, they proceeded to say that I was not supposed to pick it up till October 16th even though I had September 16th in my calendar from the last time we had met. And why would they have it done TWO WEEKS after my wedding day?!?!? Obviously they were trying to cover up on their part. She had me pay up front $350 plus I tipped $40 (I don’t know what I was thinking) After picking it up a week later after I had called them the dress didn’t even looked like it was touched on the spots she was supposed to fix for me. All she did was tie some string for the bustle. I needed my arm area to be tightened and it was not even close. My mother in law was very unhappy with the work and so were all my bridesmaids. They couldn’t believe how much I had paid for it for something they could have done.Honestly I have never complained about someone else’s work but for costing so much and giving a huge tip for so little work and a horrible experience I would say definitely go somewhere else.
I had a special shirt that needed to be altered properly. This was done in a highly professional and friendly manner. I went away a happy person. Excellent work.
Gaby has helped me for many years. She has repaired many pants, shirts and jackets for me. Lately she revived my ski jacket with a new zipper and linning. I also love how personal she is! Oh and the location of her business in downtown Lafayette is super convenient.
Loved it. Got my dress fitted within a week. Very happy with the alterations. The lady was very helpful. Would definitely recommend.
Gaby has hemmed two of my long dresses beautifully and most recently also did a wonderful job altering my dress to make the fit more comfortable. It looks great and was done very fast. Thank you!
Gaby Couture is awesome! They altered my bridesmaid dress beautifully and in a timely manner. The owners are very friendly, and explained what needed to be done so that I understood it. I will definitely be coming back with any future alteration needs! Wonderful!
I took my wedding dress in for some simple alterations and had a great experience with everyone I interacted with in the shop. Gaby was patient with me when I was unsure about an alteration decision I made and she graciously readjusted things until I was happy. My fiance also took his suit into Gaby Couture and was very happy with his results too. We will return to this shop for future alterations!
Gaby is so wonderful to work with and a truly gifted seamstress. She was able to flawlessly hem my wedding dress (no easy feat with 13 layers and lace detail that had to be moved) in no time at all, and her pricing is very reasonable.A few months passed and the wedding was approaching in less than a month. I had originally not planned to have my dress bustled because I had a second one for the reception... It wasnt until the last minute I decided/ realized that I needed the bustle for the first dance. Gaby to the rescue!! She managed to fit me into her already very busy September schedule and do the bustle with all 13 of those heavy layers!I cannot thank her enough for her incredible skill, and genuine kindness. My dress was everything I had dreamed of and helped make our wedding perfect. I would highly recommend her services for any project, big or small!
Needed two bridesmaids dresses hemmed, one for me and one for another bridesmaid who lives out of town. We previously measured ourselves and found that hers would need to be 1/2” shorter. When I brought mine in to be hemmed I let them know and when I returned to try it on it was perfect! The other bridesmaid’s also fit perfectly. Thank you! A reasonable turn around in time when I brought them in.
Extremely unwelcoming. The lady at the front desk told me they were booked for two weeks and laughed when I asked her if she could have my pants hemmed within the week. It did not seem like she was interested in talking or helping me. I quickly left and found business elsewhere.
Id gone to Gaby years ago when she was working out of her house to have some shirts and a dress fitted. She did great work for a good price. Thats why I decided to go back to her recently when I needed a simple fix done to my suit jacket and an alteration to the pants.I found it a bit odd that they wanted me to pay up-front, but other than that I had a great experience. The alterations were to be done because a family member was nearing death and I knew I would need it for a funeral soon. When things progressed faster than expected (well ahead of the date they gave me for the alterations) they understood and adjusted. I had my alterations done in time, and for a good price. They made a crappy situation (which could have been far worse if I needed to adjust a suit last-minute somewhere else!) just a little bit smoother. They definitely have my business for as long as they are here!
Bad customer service, they looked uncomfortable when I talked to them about what exactly I wanted with my coat, they said It looks good just like that, you don’t need that” like if they didn’t wanted to do the job. You must also pay the full price when you bring the clothes, which is weird, but I did it and when I went back to pick up my coat I decided to fix a couple of other things so I had to pay an extra fee that wasn’t included in the first job (no problem with it) I told her that I didn’t bring my wallet and she said she couldn’t do the job if I don’t pay $25 bucks, after I paid almost $200 the first time, it does not make sense.
Gabis was great to work with, asked the right questions. I needed a formal dress with 3 layers (lace, dress, lining) hemmed. Turn around was very quick and work done very well. thank you!
Gabby, her husband and staff are lovely to work with. She altered my wedding dress to fit me like a glove and i could not be happier. She took the time to ensure my dress was perfect in every way and gave me reccomendations on how best to care for my dress. I can not praise her enough!
I had a really great experience here! Gaby is an amazing person and a master seamstress! Definitely would recommend! Gaby and her husband always are welcoming and kind.
Gaby Couture did a wonderful job on my wedding dress! They were efficient and it fit great after they made alterations. I would definitely recommend Gaby Couture!
Great prices and fast turnaround!! Very friendly to customers and Gabi made me feel comfortable when she was pinning the alterations. Ive had many pieces done, always finished beautifully!
This place is absolutely perfect for everything ive ever needed done. Being in the military i can come across changes at little to no notice and they put me at the front of the line. they are very friendly and very reasonable priced. i would recommend to everyone and especially to the military members. this is my first choice for all my needs.
First of all, what kind of alteration place makes you pay before the alterations are done? That is the first red flag. I said when the wedding was and they suggested I pick the dress up Thursday before the Saturday of the wedding....? I dropped off the dress more than 3 weeks before the wedding. The wedding was destination so that essentially gave me A whole 10 hours to figure out if more work had to be done. All that had to be done was shortening the dress a few inches and then taken in only a little around the waist. But even that wasnt done correctly as the top of the dress was loose still and not fitting properly. Also, the clasp must have fallen off or broken. Upon retrieving the dress, there was no way to clasp the top meaning my dress essentially kept falling down and causing my chest to be exposed. Luckily the day of, other bridesmaids were crafty and used safety pins to fix the issue. But, the fact I paid $100 for this and it wasnt absolutely perfect?? My mom had much more work done on her dress and only paid $50 at the place she took it, too. Just a horrible experience all together. I would strongly suggest looking elsewhere for alterations.
Excellent tailor! I’ve had a suit, many shirts and quite a few pairs of pants done at Gaby Couture and they’ve always delivered high quality work in a more than fairly speedy timeframe. I HIGHLY recommend this business for all your tailoring needs!
Gaby altered a dress for me. Cost only $45 and she had it done in less than 2 weeks. Very friendly, fast and affordable. Her shop showcases some of her creations, I think her dresses are affordable for custom designing.
Gaby Counture is fantastic all around! High quality costumer service (every individual I interacted with there was friendly, knowledgeable, and understanding...I was in a time crunch to get a bridesmaid dress altered), attention to detail, and wonderful alterations. They did a great job with my bridesmaid dress and even made a few additional alterations in one days time so I would have it in time for the wedding. I am very appreciative of them and their fine work!
I approached Gabby and Danny with my senior thesis project. I had a very tight deadline of only one week and when I first met with them, they were excited to help me bring my idea to life. They were very very nice from start to finish and were extremely helpful in the developing of my senior thesis, human interactive fitness gloves. They finished my gloves within the deadline and the outcome was fantastic! They will work long hours and do what is necessary in order to make their clients happy. I was hoping to upload an image to show the final product. I presented the human interactive fitness gloves as well as some other projects at an industrial design conference which I ended up winning an award for! I would highly recommend Gabby Couture to anyone looking for a phenomenal work ethic and beautiful work.
Gaby and Danny are the nicest people ever, and their work is truly second-to-none. The greater Lafayette area is so fortunate to have a talented tailor/seamstress like Gaby! Gaby has now tailored two suits and two blazers for me, and I will never take my work anywhere else!
I went a little crazy during a sale weekend and had bought some dress pants, jeans and sport coats. I am used to slim fitting clothes but could not pass up the deals even if they did not fit exactly how I wanted them to. I took all the clothes to Gaby along with some of my regular clothes so she could see how they fit. She was very nice and polite and told me it would not be a problem to fix all of them. When I came back to pick them up I was extremely happy. Everything fit exactly as I asked. I couldnt believe that she was even able to make the pants slim fit how I like them. The jackets looked as if they were made for me they fit so well.I would highly recommend Gaby as she is very polite, personable and does exceptional work.
Gaby is an excellent tailor. I had a bridesmaid dress that was really hard to alter and she worked miracles. The entire family provides great service.
Great people. Needed them to hem a suit within a few days and they were willing to expedite the order. Ive asked them to tailor several items for me and they always do an excellent job.
I bought some vintage tweed sport coats on Ebay that were in great condition, but none fit me quite right. Gaby did a fantastic job altering them, and now they fit perfectly. Im quite pleased with her work!
Wow. Gaby hemmed my pageant gown and sewed in bra padding for it, too. Superb job for such an excellent price. It wouldve costed me multiple hundreds of dollars but cost me so much less. She is really good at treating loyal customers well, too.
Very professional buy way overpriced for a simple hem. The hemming cost more than the dress. Will try and find somewhere else for simple things.
This company always provides fast and high quality service. Ive used this company multiple times for uniform alterations and have never been disappointed. Will definitely be going back in the future
Gaby is a true professional, protectionist, and master seamstress! I am so grateful to have her near where I live. I have used her multiple times for female and male suit tailoring as well as pant alterations. Everything has been perfect and very reasonably priced. Today, I had my final fitting for my wedding dress and I was blown away with the attention to detail in each pick up and fold. I have a busy work schedule and her and her husband (Danny) both stayed an hour past close altering the dress to the most specific detail as I was family. She is worth the wait if you have a special occasion!
Quality work in a fast turn around time! Highly recommend for anything from simple zipper repair to full on custom design work!
I had a new suit altered with them. For some reason, every other tailor was closed due to owners having surgery. They got my suit done on the day I needed it. Excellent customer service.
She works very fast! Does good work. Prices are good!
Gaby and Danny are great tailors! I had my suit and pants tailored here. All my clothes fitted great after.
Great job tailoring my pants.
Gaby did an AMAZING job fixing my 30+ year old, great uncles coat. She made it good as new, and it was some of the best customer experience Ive ever had. Go to Gaby!
I would highly recommend to go to The Sewing Shop instead! I had a horrible experience here. All I needed was to shorten a few pairs of pants. They were rushing me throughout the measuring process. Then, they made me pay for the alterations upfront and charged $15 per pair. Out of 4 pairs of pants, 2 were still too long and done very unevenly after shortening. I asked them to cut more off and to straighten them out. They convinced me to cut only 1/2 cm not 1 cm like I wanted because they said they could always shorten them more, but not the other way around. I agreed, but when I got them back, I noticed almost no difference. I told them they still needed to be a bit shorter. What I was told next shocked me. The male owner of the store yelled at me saying that I always had problems with their work (which I did because what they did was incorrect and of poor quality) and was bothering them by coming back and always asking for free work to be done. He said they had been doing this for over 30 years and I was asking for too much. He yelled if I want to get them shortened again I had to pay another $15 for each pair. I was so shocked I just walked out. I still can not believe they are in business after treating customers so poorly. I went to The Sewing Shop to get the rest cut down.P.S. They did a much better job as far as quality, were much nicer, and charged a lower price.
I took my wedding dress to Gaby for alterations, and couldnt have been more pleased. Gaby did a wonderful job; the dress turned out beautifully and fit perfectly!
Very nice customer service !She did a Great job customizing my pants. She did the job in a reasonable time.I recommend Gaby couture !Thank you Gaby !
Affordable, prompt and friendly! Location slightly difficult to find; but, convenient living downtown. I do wish the jacket was a little more slim. Although, I know, Ill be keeping it for some years and Ill end up growing into it.
Very professional service, reasonable price, and on-time!
Got my suit tailored here. Gaby did an amazing job, could not have asked for better service. Highly recommend.
We had our daughters prom dress hemmed, etc at Gaby Couture and they did an excellent job!
I went to this shop today in need minor alterations on two extremely ($170 & $160) expensive items. All I wanted was a price quote and an assurance that the work could be done correctly. I told Gabby there was no rush or time frame these items needed to be completed by, and even offered to come back at a later date if she was booked for awhile.Instead, she told me she was “too busy” to take my business, and suggested I try “Susan’s Sewing” which has incredibly negative reviews online. It is unfortunate to me the times I am reminded that discrimination stills runs rampant on a daily basis, because it appeared crystal clear she was refusing service to me based on my colored hair, and tattoos. (my tattoos are non-offensive science related.)I am heartbroken I was treated this way today, to say the very least. I do not recommend anyone else to have this experience, so if you’re looking for a seamstress, you should look elsewhere.
Very nice people. Did an awesome job at altering a prom dress
Excellent craftsmanship. Took three pieces in for alterations and I could not be happier. Gaby isnt really a seamstress, she is a magician!
I had an awful experience at Gaby Couture. Not only did I have to bring my pants twice for a simple alteration (and clearly payed twice), but I was also yelled at when I told them that they caused 3 noticeable defects to my pants! And prices are higher than of their competitors in the area while quality is pretty bad! P.S. Still shocked that they allowed themselves to yell at their customers!
I have been a customer of Gabys for several years, and have had nothing but positive experiences. Repairs, alterations, and refitting all done with quality workmanship and in a timely manor.
I am a Midshipman in the NROTC unit at Purdue University. I had some uniforms that didnt fit me well due to my slim figure. I took my uniforms in and I was not disappointed with the results! She did an amazing job with taking in the sides of my SDB jacket, dress shirt, and khaki shirt. She also fixed my SDB pants so they didnt look baggy. Overall, I now look much sharper in my uniforms and I will be going back to her for all my tailoring needs!
Very nice people. The work is professional.
Expert tailoring, wonderful people, a very high degree of professionalism and customer service. Cannot reccomend them enough.
Gaby can do simple jobs including one she did for me in July 2014, however, she completely ruined my wedding dress causing me to have to go buy a dress off the rack at Davids Bridal 10 days before my wedding. Shes a nice lady, but she seems to have a hard time figuring out and communicating to customers what is and is not within her skill level.I gave Gaby my wedding dress in late September 2014 to do three things (1) add a modesty piece (2) cover the keyhole back and (3) add sleeves. After calling several times in October, I was told I could come in for a fitting on November 7th even though I originally expected the dress to be done November 7thI came in November 11th for what I thought was a fitting, but was told the dress was completed. When I bent over, the buttons Gaby installed popped open, the sleeves (chiffon material) were skin tight and did not allow room to move. Additionally, the sleeves had little bulges where the sleeve meets the shoulder making the work look very sloppy. Both Gaby and her husband insisted that the fault was mine (e.g., I picked the wrong material, I did not give them enough time, they didnt have my telephone number to call me earlier), but still offered to fix it.With less than 3 weeks until my wedding, I gave Gaby another week to work on it. I came in again and the sleeves did not fit me (e.g., popping at the seams, too tight). I, again, gave her a week (until 11/18) to work on it. I went in yesterday morning to pick the dress up when we agreed on and it was not done. I finally went back to pick it up later in the day and I was tired of dealing with it, so I just took it even though the modesty piece she installed was loose and floppy, and the back she added to the dress was poorly done. I gave up on asking her to do the sleeves properly and finally told her to just remove them all together. Finally, what made the dress (which was made of a delicate material) *really* unwearable, was runs throughout it that were not there when I originally left it with Gaby.I took the dress from her Tuesday morning and she refunded me for her fee on the sleeves. I noticed the runs, floppy modesty piece, and poorly done back when I left but simply did not want to deal with it any more.If working with a specific material or type of dress is beyond your scope, its more professional to admit that it is not something you are able to do rather than insist you have experience and make dresses from scratch. Because Gaby failed to admit the limits of her abilities, I had to spend $1200 on a new dress off the rack and rushed alterations at a bridal shop in town. That is not including the $500 I paid for my original dress which now cant even be used as a shower curtain.TL;DRDont take your wedding dress to Gaby if it requires really delicate work or is made of delicate fabric. It will get ruined and you will be sad.
I have gone here to have several suits altered and many pants hemmed. Gaby does great work and is very affordable.
Friendly staff great place for alterations
Great experience here!
Awful experience Gaby laughed when telling me the dress I wanted to alter wouldnt work I wont be going back
Too Expensive
