Hi, Ive been training at Thurston academy for 9 years now. I was a high school wrestler and a strength and conditioning coach. I was looking for something to help keep me in shape and to learn some self defense skills. I have found so much more than that at Thurston academy. I got into great shape and developed crucial self defense skills while boosting my confidence and self discipline but most importantly at Thurston academy Ive found a family. I would highly recommend this martial arts school to everyone and anyone. Atmosphere is friendly but competitive. The instructors are extremely knowledgeable and kind and establishment is clean and professional.

I have been attending Thurston academy jiu-jitsu 4 days a week for about 2 years now. I enjoy all of my classmates and every instructor.Every instructor is willing and ready to help you if youre ready to help yourself. If you are dedicated to yourself and committed to your personal growth they will be with you every step of the way.

My daughter and I both train here. They are a supportive family friendly environment. They have many programs and schedules to fit everyone. They are upfront with all charges and policies. She goes to college and they are flexible with her payments. But dont take my word for it. Come and see for yourself. You wont be disappointed.

Be aware of this martial arts studio. They are not the kind of people they appear to be. They are not honest and are more interested in your money. I would seriously consider looking into other studios for you or your children.

LOVE this place -- and the Thurstons. I get an excellent work-out in a respectful, fun, and always encouraging environment. I also love watching them work with kids -- and hope to get a chance to let my grandkids experience this. They are always so encouraging -- to children and adults (even to an overweight 60 year old like me). I love the way they teach the kids not only to try new things and build new strength and skills but also to be courteous, respectful, and kind -- supporting one another as they train together.I also like that they ask parents to be courteous to the staff, students, and other parents. High expectations create a pleasant atmosphere for all.

Dedicated instruction and a high energy atmosphere is what they offer here. The dojos are spacious and full of training equipment, which is constantly being updated for our use. A family friendly environment for students of all ages that have the desire and commitment to learn Martial Arts.

Elizabeth speaks the truth. I just received a super confrontational email because I asked for ACH debits to stop because my very young children lost interest. We literally went twice and probably paid over $1500 over 5-6 months. As soon as I asked for the ACH debits to stop, I was ignored by the company that handles their Debits (my beef was originally with that organization) and just got a confrontational email from a Thurston Academy email address that wasnt even signed to disclose who wrote it. They made a ton of money off of us and were not cool at all when we wanted to stop paying for classes my kids werent attending. If you must give them a try, ask for more than one free trial class before you sign anything or disclose your bank information. Kids interests change when theyre little. Its not so easy to stop the debits. Theyre probably really great if your kids are older and super into it. Mine were not. Beyond that, do you really want your kids learning self control from people that go nuts when they dont like a decision youve made? Their response really was a little nuts. ✌️

I have been training with Thurston Academy for over 6 years now and I only have positive words to say... Not only is the dojo very clean, spacious and has state of the art training equipment, the whole atmosphere is open and inviting. They have become family over the past few years and I am proud to associated myself with them. I am heavily involved with their classes and have always left with a smile on my face. The programs range for all ages and the instructors do their best to cater to everyones individual needs. Its always engaging, fun, challenging (in a good way!) and has a deep lineage from Okinawa Japan. Again, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this dojo for any one who is interested in not only working out their body but also their mind and spirit!

I started taking classes here last year and love it. All of the instructors are excellent and very encouraging. They have been able to modify my training to account for my ongoing feet issues with no problem. I have learned so much! I feel great knowing I’m learning karate from Senseis that have learned from a long lineage of karate that can be traced back to karate masters from Okinawa. I would recommend this dojo to anyone who wants to learn karate.

My son started karate with Thurston Academy at 6 years old and did it consistently until he was 17. He had very little confidence in himself and through training at the dojo which he loved became an amazing young man. He is in first year college now but the discipline he learned was applied to all areas in his life and he is very grateful to all the instructors there. Sensei Joe is so dedicated to helping kids and adults reach their full potential. All the instructors are really amazing too! I am now a student at TMA and could not be happier! I would HIGHLY recommend Thurston Academy you wont regret it!

I have been going to Thurston on and off for a bit doing the Jui Jitsu class, and I have never had a bad experience. Everyone that I have come into contact with there has been more than accommodating, from the owners to the students. Its always fun, and you get one hell of a workout, 10/10 would jui jitsu again :).

I have been a student of Sensei Joe Thurston since 2011, Thurston Martial Arts is the place to train. Steeped in tradition, our karate comes directly from Okinawa, the lineage going back hundreds of years. Our kata has been passed down through the generations- the way we do kata today is the same as it was hundreds of years ago. When you train at TMA youre not just part of the dojo family but part of a way of life, part of a culture and tradition that encompasses mind, body, and spirit.
