Kernersville Y is wonderful. The staff is very helpful and friendly. We have met some great people there. Makes exercising meaningful and fun.
Great water park! (Slides, splash pad, outdoor and indoor pool, Lilly pads...etc) outdoor pool very warm. ( Just make sure you come on a sunny day! ☀️😎
Love the outdoor pools and splash areaI came especially for that. We are members of ymca and tend to go to king but there is nothing like. a nice outdoor pool for summer timeWe really enjoy it and will come every weekend
Everything you need for getting in shape, recovering from surgeries after you doctor releases you, and well rounded programs. Very nice people that work here are always ready to help you.
My favorite gym ever. Great staff great equipment. Jus plain fun place. My kids love the pool area
Awesome place to work out at and for family activities. Love that they have child care for while youre working out. Also they offer assistance to familys with lower income at a huge discounted cost! I had a friend that needed assistances, which saved them over a 3rd of the over all price which helped them tremendously. I love all the activities they have available for my kids and all the different programs they offer members. Over all a wonderful place to work out at, and I love the Jacuzzi/hot tub! I Highly recommended the YMCA in kernersville nc
Here with Bright Beginnings. Terrific program
Great place to bring the kids while you work out.
Great gym to join, love the classes and swimming options.
This facility is top notch. My granddaughter has been swimming on their team (Tyde and RipTyde) since she was 7. Shes 15 now and still going strong. It has been a super experience and a huge part of her development.I highly recommend the Kernersville YMCA.
Kids had a great time . They always love going here . Chris is a awesome person to talk to with all my questions and concerns. Thank you Chris
I stopped by for a tour and was impressed with the facilities. The staff was eager to tell me about the exercise programs.
Love my YMCA just wish they’d get the spa & steam room going
Great experience friendly staff a lot of activities and classes to choose from.
Great family place and atmosphere for everyone.
Good for knocking out my brother in the pool. And they couldent find the body cause the water is to yellowto see though it. JK THIS A JOKE. I LOVEd it.
We didnt care for the swim lessons as they made it a game to fall in the water for kids. They sang the Humpty Dumpty song and had kids fall in when the song says ... had a great fall. There were other issues with the swim lessons that I felt were not safe. Other places we went they actually teach the opposite of the YMCA, which is that kids need to ask a parent before jumping in the water.Another time I went and the pool was empty, they didnt have any barriers up and doors to the pool were all wide open. I was with a friend who has a special needs child and this small child almost fell in the deep end, she had got ahead of us and I didnt know the ymca was propping up all of thier doors to the pool. I told them of this and they said they would close the door since the pool was empty. We were there several hours and they never did close the doors.I feel like at times childrens safety is not as much of a priority to the staff, but other aspects are great.
Nice facility it has a lot of choices
They got some new equip during shut down ...cool
Someone tell me why the newest review (only one) is One Year Old, and most of the rest is two years, four years, and so on?And Im really wanting to join, BUT....something seems ary here.
Always a great place to go.
Love this spot. Summer go to.
Love the Y. Very Christian place (Young Mens Christian Association/YMCA) and very family friendly. Love the programa they have for kids and adults as well as the open space to exercise, walk and have fun
Now that everything is open, this place still requires you to sign up a day before for classes. What????????
So good toget back to the YMCA. Everything nice and clean. Spaced out. Great place to go.
This is a very nice YMCA and it has two large pools to satisfy your swimming pleasures. The Staff are courteous and helpful. Customers are courteous and do clean their workout machines after use. The complex is well maintained and clean. There are numerous classes and amenities that make this a great activity center. Join! You will be pleased.
It is a great place to work out. There is a great variety of machines to choose from & I love the indoor track.
Love my Y, am thankful for what we have, its not what we were used to but its better than nothing..
Waiting for full scale opening, rather than virtual.
This place has EVERYTHING! Multiple indoor pools, a really cool play area and daycare for the kids, an area for parties, an outdoor water park and pool, basketball, racket ball, and pickle ball courts, and a large selection of weight machines, cardio equipment and free weights. This is the place to go if youre interested in being healthy and having fun by yourself or with your family!
Friendly and helpful at all times
I love to bring the family here great place for the kids to play while I enjoy a workout or even a dip in the pool alone. They have an outdoor pool and splash area for the little ones. Great instructors for the many classes they offer.
The YMCA is allowed to fully reopen based on the ordinance from the attorney general, however, will only open partially but still charge full membership. Poor leadership that is only money hungry!
Our whole family lives the Y! So many activities for the whole family to engage in. Kids love the heated indoor pool and the water park during the summer. If you live near by you should definitly check it out.
This was the 1st time I had been to this one. And the employees was friendly. They have 4 pools, 2 inside and 2 outside. The workout rooms are well equipped and everything is clean. They are very helpful to disabled people. They explain how to use equipment and any questions you may have about anything at the YMCA.
This morning at the Kernersville YMCA I had a very bad experience. After a morning class which was great I went into the family bathroom at the program pool. This is the one behind the lifeguard chair. I’ve been to the bathroom one other time and I had the same exact experience. My first time I thought oh they probably forgot to clean it. But there was hair and trash and it was just disgusting. All over the place. YMCA staff you need to clean the bathrooms. Remember this was in the morning there’s only so many people that use the bathroom before me at 6AM
Very clean friendly environment
Loving it!
My family enjoy working out at the YMCA. The management and staff are always friendly and attentive to people’s needs. Kernersville YMCA, seem to have all kinds of thoughtful extras. Like a lounge area to set and read, maybe visit and drink coffee.
I usually go one in a week Saturday afternoon, I use the weight machines, the place is clean and the personal is great. My only concern is a bunch of teens hanging around the weight room with Cell phones. Today one of them was texting and pushing 60Lbs at the same time, one of the 25lbs dropped from bench and missed my foot for a inches.
Great opportunity to get involved and get healthy no matter your fit ess level.
I LOVE this Y! I am greeted warmly every time I enter and leave. All the instructors of classes I take (mostly Body Pump, Body Flow and Joy Riders) are excellent and very friendly as well.
Pools, hot tub, some other great things, but bit high for membership.Trainers are nice but extra, Michelle worth every dollar.
The kids love the day care center here. I also love going and also the discount I get off the monthly rate too
We have a family membership and it is well worth the ~$80 a month. The staff is very friendly, the facilities are clean, they offer great classes and child care. They have 2 gyms, two pools, men and women locker rooms, a machine and free-weight room, amongst other amenities. They have numerous adult and child activities as well. Joining this facility was a great move for our family!
My son visited. Seemed really nice. Big range of ages. Something for everyone.
Sometimes the front office do not know what the rest of the staff is doing or whether they are in fact on duty or not. (instructors, trainers, etc). I have asked whether certain instructors were available and if they would be present to offer specific classes as scheduled, and the answers are always vague and indecisive.
The staff is friendly and the pools are really nice and clean. Summer camp the kids had a blast when they were young Id do it all over again. Teen camp is really great too they did a lot of fun activities on their level. They have plenty of programs for all ages and they have really great standards.
I am highly disappointed at the experience that Ive had with the membership staff at the Kernersville location. This has not been a one or even two time incident. I have had several negative experiences with membership staff that have left my family and I feeling unwelcomed and unwanted. My kids and I truly enjoy the water park and playground, however to get to those facilities, we have to endure the membership staff and it has been absolutely frustrating on every single visit. The staff members are rude, snappy, condescending and impatient, this is over the phone and in person. There is a visible agitation from the staff members that Ive observed when checking into the Kernersville location and the guest waiver process has been an absolute nightmare each time weve brought a guest, the staff members have been rude, impatient and condescending through the process. They become flustered and have snappy and rude comments towards my family and guests.Staff members dont speak to my family when we walk past them, when we enter the building or exit. This has been my experience 90 % of the time. I also get a heavy sense of racism in the air when interacting with staff members. This is super disheartening to my soul.Additionally, my teenage guest was falsely excused of using foul language and reprimanded for it for an extremely rude, condescending and snarky manner. When I came to my guests defense in a polite manner, the YMCA team member proceeded to get into a back and forth with me in a rude manner. Who does that? Staff members should never get in a back and forth with a member who is paying good money for services. This is totally unacceptable. I also found out that this same staff member starting talking about me out in the open when I left to report her behavior. As stated my family and I have truly enjoyed the water park facilities and would love to continue to visit to enjoy the out water facilities, however I am extremely uncomfortable when interacting with staff members because of the rude manner that weve been treated. Ive contacted management about my experiences and I truly hope that this problem is fixed because their slogan for serving all people seems to be false. The unfair and rude treatment that my family has endured seems to be baked into the environment and I pray that it can be turned around quickly.UPDATE: Management contacted me regarding my concerns and they were apologetic which I truly appreciated. I was ensured that my concerns would be addressed with the staff as a whole. This is good news, however I am still apprehensive to go back for a visit since the staff have been consistently rude each time. Hopefully, they will change for the better.
Love it
Good
Love to go here to work out and play some basketball
There is so much to do and a lot of space for all of the equipment so that you arent too cramped. Large locker rooms with showers, two indoor pools as well as outdoor pools, multiple gyms, etc.
First, I have a family membership for my entire household so it isnt cheap for a monthly expense. However, my kids wanted to do swim lessons so I paid the extra for two kids to have the lessons. I should have known this place was a joke from this experience alone. Half of the classes, the moms, but mostly me, had to attempt to track down an instructor or even the aquatic director. Good luck.... When we did have an instructor show up, it was a different one each time because people werent showing up for work and not being scheduled for this paid class. No refunds, no apologies, and not even return phone calls. If theres a different person every day, how do you know where the class is? How do you know the progress of the kids? Other classes got certificates and ribbons saying what they could do and if they passed. My kids didnt get anything because they didnt even know it was the last day of class. Every time I got the opportunity to workout, there was no equipment available. And the icing on the top is why Im leaving a review. I cancelled my membership 3 weeks ago and they just took next months payment from my bank account. I called to get it straightened out and both people I can talk to are out of town for the next two weeks. Im not pleased. Id also add, the locker rooms always smell like feet, the showers smell foul, and lots of people get athletes foot and planter warts there!
Kids enjoyed it.Nice to have access to 4 different pools, hot tub, sauna, steam room, and more...Staff was helpful at anytime we had a question.
Staff is more worried about you leaving on time than appreciating that you are a member with them. Most of the evening crew is rude and inconsiderate. Without warning several times they have turned out the lights even before closing time, making it difficult to find the exit door! Once was in the bathroom in the stall. Staff will turn the TVs off while you are watching it without warning and will announce over the PA they are closing and in essence Dont make them late. Find another place to take your family. YMCA stands for Y Must Close ASAP.
We love the YMCA in Kernersville. My family joined in spring of 2015. Most of the staff are friendly and personable. I would highly recommend this Y to any family looking to be more active and feel a sense of community.
Friendly staff. Need to open more pools and fix the heater on the indoor pool that is open.
I would give it a five out of five except some things just stay broken there...Maybe I should offer to fix them instead of whining...Otherwise its a great place for families..You end up getting to know everyone and their kids... The staff is excellent and overall the facility is clean and safe... Between the staff and the other members its never a problem or a worry if your child or children are out of your sight...Workout room is excellent and great selection of equipment and mats for stretching.... Locker rooms could be a little cleaner but otherwise its all good
Great place to work out i like going alot
Great place to meet and workout we join 2 week agoAnd love it the staff is very helpful building is clean
I am super picky about who watches my kids, and where I work out. My kids and I love the staff in the kid care area, and I absolutely love the variety of classes offered. I regularly take Barre, BodyFlow, BodyCombat, and more recently started taking BodyPump. We love the splash park in the summer, and I’m excited for all the renovations happening! It’s my opinion that the facility and staff are a wonderful combo when it comes to what I look for in my gym. I’d recommend this place to anyone with a family for the monthly rate, child care, and variety of classes.
Great community! Nice variety of fitness classes, and staff truly cares for the people that come through their doors.
I stop my membership the pool and hot tub gets clean one time a week .
Nice place for kids and family. staff is friendly and welcoming
Very nice facility, well staffed, clean, just a great asset to the community!
I will begin by saying that my daughter and I joined the Y earlier in the summer and have really enjoyed the outdoor swimming area. She LOVES the splash park. Thats where the positive review ends. I gave one star because of a recent birthday party I attended with my family. The lack of professionalism was absolutely astounding. It made for a party full of tension between the guests and the staff. A swim instructor set the tone of the party by being very rude to the father of the special needs birthday child and the rest of the party guests. Sharing a pool is not an issue, but attitude is everything and between the instructor and lifeguards, it turned hostile. I personally overheard inappropriate conversations about the situation in the hallway between the employees. When the employees saw me they rushed into a room and quickly closed the door. I was not the only person to hear conversations of that nature. Even other YMCA members not associated with the party knew something was awry and were talking about it. One even commented to the mother of the birthday child saying Oh, youre the birthday mom everyone is talking about. Its a shame that a special needs family with a medically frail child with multiple handicaps was treated so poorly. This is a condensed review by the way. I could go on, but Ill spare you the rest of the details. Most of the party goers are actually members of this YMCA branch. With that being said, we will be canceling our membership.
Great place to get in shape. They have everything you need from free weights, and treadmills to pool and lots of classes.
Staff is extremely rude. It almost seems like the people commenting STAFF IS AMAZING LOVE IT are actually YMCA employees themselves, because nobody in their right mind would enjoy this group of people.
A couple weeks ago was my special needs sisters birthday and she was so excited we were going to the pool at the Y to swim. However due to a schedule error on the YMCAs behalf, the pool party was rescheduled. No big deal. Today we came back together for a second attempt and a super happy sister. However, once again someone at the Y had made a mistake and scheduled a large swim lesson. No biggie, we could share the pool right? Not only was the swim instructor rude, bossy, and disrespectful to my father and mother, but so was nearly every single life guard and attending staff member. My sister who is special needs was scolded for swimming to close to other children. My father was told to Deal With It and my mother was belittled. I came late and found out about this as I walked by the staff and heard them talking about my family in front of other members. And it wasnt oh man we made two mistakes in a row, no, they were ranting about the crazy mom who complained too much. No one had fun, all 40 some people that were at the party left angry, all of them are canceling memberships. None of us will ever be back, except to cancel. I know that people make mistakes, however this was over the top. The single worst yet expensive birthday party ever. This is not the entire story as I could spout on for some time. Needless to say it was horrendous.
Very nice and friendly, and very helpful in your journey to a relaxing better health.. And very supportive in the time of need when my father passed away on the 1st of may this year .. Thank you kernersville YMCA thank you for being there for our family and others..
The best YMCA I have ever been to, staff and facility
First of all this YMCA has 2 gyms- 2 big gyms at that The hours are also listed on the doors and website. The classes are challenging, the staff is friendly, and the place has a lot of activities for kids! Love it.
Best place to workout great people great fun
It sure was cooler when Bryan was here though, hes CUTE
The staff is as friendly as they can be - a great lift to my day (6 days/wk),and the pool aerobics instructions are THE BEST!!!!!
The Kernisville ymca is a great place to go to the gym and practice and you can practice anything from basketball to soccer
This place is gross. I got athletes foot. Would not recommend.
Friendly staff and abundance of classes are great.
Highly recommend you do not join this YMCA unless you enjoy constant change from your routine. The staff has some friendly folks but the majority and higher ups are terribly rude. The sauna STAYS BROKEN. No matter how many comment cards you write, theyll blow money renovating what doesnt need to be renovated before theyll fix things like a sauna. The locker rooms are hideous, how about renovating those!? Most ymcas in the triad have up to date locker rooms and his and hers saunas/hot tubs. This one does not. Staff turnover is high. There are no mirrors in the wellness center to check your form when exercising. They repainted the wellness center to a tacky orange and teal color as well. They took away a chunk of the machines to put upstairs in a boot camp/personal trainer room that they say youre allowed to use when paid classes arent using it... wow, need I say more? Its amazing how much money theyve spent in changing what didnt need to be changed and probably even more amazing how much money theyre losing on cancelled and suspended memberships. Go join the fitness center near hopkins road or if youre set on a YMCA membership, check out the jerry long in Clemmons!
Staff, programs, facilities, convenience, friendliness.
The YMCA was a blessing at my sons school for after school but the Summer Camp is not where I feel safe having my child. They are only allowed to go inside out of the rain if it is lightning and 45 kids do not fit under a 10x10 tent. They only go in if the temperature is over 90!!! I pull up in pouring rain to pick him up and I am told he was inside to use the bathroom....NO HE WASNT he was running through the grassy area with one shoe off to get his lunchbox that was sitting out in the rain!!! He didnt get to eat lunch because the counselors didnt have time to help him open his lunch while he was in a sling for a fractured collar bone from 6 days prior!!! Highly unorganized and not staffed properly to guarantee the safety of my 7 year old!!! You dont always get what you pay for! $130 a week for a member and the lunch that is included is from the Second Harvest Food Bank....at least let parents know ahead of time!!!
Used to be a great place to work out but theyve made a lot of recent changes that have been for the worse. I wont be going back. The staff and ownership are very rude as well.Id rather be out of shape than spend time at such an awful place.
Needs cleaning, painted, and deoderized.
Great Water Park Free To YMCA MEMBERS ANYWHERE
Love this place I especially like the pool
Very friendly love going to water fitness clasd
The girls 6th Grade Basketball Team coach is a disgrace. I do not know her name, but I will be following up to find it. She is teaching her girls the wrong lessons in life, and she is disgraceful in losing.
Its a very fun open place to swim
This is suppose to be a Christian organization and they only care about not offending the world! They are the worst ymca in the triad and are far from Christian. Do yourself a favor and avoid the athletes foot infested ymca of kernersville.
Excellent family environment
Excellent Customer Service
LOVE THIS PLACE AND THE EMPLOYEES!
Awsome staff
I shouldve read the other reviews. Filthy and old workout equipment, and got athletes foot from the lockerroom.
Racquetball games are getting better
Nice family atmosphere.
Do not join if you plan to use water facilities. Smug lifeguards lie about lightning strikes, close sauna falsely claiming it is part of the pool deck (there is a gate that is pulled down to close the actual pool area, which they routinely do). They keep showers open during lightning storm because policies are thoughtless and lazy. They rip off customers by not doing refunds on missed lessons
