My daugter is a student at Kent State (6 hours away from home). Her power steering pump exploded. I wanted to save the trip out and back to fix it, so I called Freds. Larry was abolutely awesome and updated me on the status often. He had it repaired sooner than expected. Even after having to purchase an uxpected part, came in below what I was quoted. Ive always done all the work on my cars, and never had to deal with a repair shop.This was a surprisingly pleasurable experience. Would highly recommend Freds and Larry.

This review is long overdue. Chris and Larry helped me out with my brakes back in November 2019. I was in need of new brake pads and rotors. They allowed me to leave my car with them for a few days while we waited on parts to come in, as I wasnt comfortable driving it. (Pontiacs are increasingly difficult to get parts for these days.) Chris kept in touch with me through the whole process and got me back on the road ASAP. He was professional, courteous, and accommodating throughout the whole process. He also gave me advice on brakes maintenance for the future.Chris also noticed my battery needed to be replaced, but didnt push me on the sell. After checking when I bought it, I realized it was definitely in need of replacement and asked him to do that for me too. It definitely wouldnt have been great to get stuck with a dead battery during the winter!I called them again this week (June 2020) after I bent one of my rims. Larry told me he probably couldnt help me but asked me to bring it in at my convenience. I did. He checked it out and told me he wasnt able to take care of it, but directed me to two tire shops that probably could.Five stars! I will constantly recommend them. Theyre my go-to for as long as Im in Kent!

I had taken my daughters jeep in for repairs (she is a student at Kent) and they did a great job of fixing it right and under the estimated cost. He was able to get the part cheaper than expected and then passed the savings on to me. He also had the flu and still managed to work on the car. I would highly recommend!

I called during my lunch break to explain an issue I was having, Larry asked me to bring it in right then, he told me exactly what needed to be done and got me in the next morning. Suggested something else need to be done but didnt push me about it. I live out of town and he told me next time Im home I should have someone take a look. I ended up calling a few minutes later to take it to him, he got me in the following morning. Very impressed. Larry is professional, honest, quick, and doesnt over charge. I will be back if needed!

Larry & his wife will take care of you & your car better than any large shop. They spend time trying to find the best prices on parts. They will tell you what *needs* to be fixed, what *could* be fixed, and what may happen in the future. They care about every person. Cant do better for honest service

Larry was very nice to talk to, he troubleshot the problem with my daughters car then called me to let me know what was wrong and how he was going to repair the problem. He uses good quality replacement parts, and tests if he fixes the issue. His prices are very reasonable and the work was done in a timely manner. Thanks Larry

Larry and his wife are the kindest people I have met in Kent. Larry is such a great michanic. He makes sure to take all the time he needs to check on the car for inspection, and recommends you on what and what not to fix. He is the first one to come in mind whenever I want my car to get checked out or fixed.

Dropped my Grand Am off here super early in the morning before class so I could come back after and my oil change was done in a reasonable time frame. It was under $30 which is comparable to other places, plus its a small business so I felt better about spending my money here. The shorter white man with very white hair (Possibly Fred? Frank?) advised me that I had an oil leak under my car and it honestly wasnt worth fixing because of the price I paid for the car and mileage. Also told him about my transmission problems and he advised me to cut my losses because my car sounded like it was on its last leg. I like the fact that he didnt lie to me and try to get me to pay him to repair my oil leak and was straight up about the fact that it wasnt worth fixing. Service was fast and he was nice, what more can you ask for?

Had a really great experience here. It wouldnt take much more than a look at me to guess that I dont know much about cars. I didnt feel as though I had to be worried about taken advantage of or ripped off as a college student. He was happy to speak to my dad about the issue my car was having and the cost of the work ended up being less than they quoted. Super friendly, wished me a good day. Would highlt reccomend.
