They will raise cost of rent even if you re signed your lease on time and do not have a renovated apartment. Our apartment didn’t change at all but apparently that’s enough reason to raise the price. A lot of audacity for not even having a washer and dryer in the unit. They also bribed residents to write the positive google reviews so don’t believe everything you hear ;)
Great place to live! Office staff are friendly and management are looking for ways to improve facilities. The gym and dog park are wonderful new additions.
Have lived here for a while. Management is not very organized, make sure you get everything in writing. The gym is pretty new so that is nice. Neighbors are normally pretty chill. Dont expect maintenance to be available or fix the issues in your unit. Usually just a quick duct tape method. Overall not a horrendous place to reside but I hope my next play is a little more nice and truthful.
Completely in love with how much natural light my apartment gets, the office staff are always helpful and ready to answer any questions.
I love how this place is conveniently located from mostly any place such as WMU, gas stations, laundromats, bus stops, and many more. Staff is quick to reply to any needs such as plumbing or simple questions. I also love how peaceful and quiet it is around here.
This is the perfect apartment complex for a college student looking for a quiet yet at home feel. Tucked in off the main road leading to WMU, your travel to campus is seamless. The management is amazing at returning phone calls and maintenance always responds to request or concerns about your unit.
My son and his roommate have an apartment at Western Pines. They are college students and the location is close to WMU which is quite convenient. The area is quiet and, in general, it seems a nice group of students with not many crazy parties like some of the other students apartment complexes on the same street. For the price, it is a decent apartment, and it appears it is under new management.Maintenance of the apartments: Last winter, there was a problem with the furnace and the maintenance personnel came immediately after being called in the middle of the night. The maintenance crew worked for few hours but they could not finish that night; however, the finished the next day. While everything is nice, I think some of the washers are dryers need to be replaced because, in their building, the dryer has been broken at least two times, so the students have to go out of the complex to do laundry which is a nuisance. Finally, as a person that does this reviews for the community, in this case parents to help their college students/ son or daughter find good apartments, I do not like when suddenly it appears in the Google reviews list of people that have never written reviews, to all put Five stars, and mention how wonderful the place is.All the reviews are three weeks ago, and I assume something is going on...That in itself descredit the new company that is running the apartment, and that is sign of insecurity.Beside the new pictures that have been put as I was writing this review are too Photoshop and make you believe the opposite: They are hiding something. The company pictures of the apartment look too good to be true. Yes, the apartment are not new and yes, they do not have all the fancy things, but they are enough for college students that are starting their independent life.Good customer service (have better washers and dryers, always working) are better that all the gimmicks. The students will stay if the company is nice to them and treat them with respect, plain, old common sense (the most uncommon of the senses).Good customer service, good price for the rent, good location, solid construction of the not so new apartments, realistic pictures, honesty and transparency, that will do it.
Western Pines Apartments has gone way down hill. This complex is great at enticing people with false promises and intentions only to surpass my lowest expectations. If you are looking to rent a unit hear it is my personal recommendation that you save yourself a headache and look elsewhere. However if you enjoy being treated like a second class citizen and having the place you pay your money to managed by individuals who seem to lack the understanding of basic human decency than you have been warned. Ive read the other reviews and the only thing they seem to be good responding to is their reviews. I am so disgusted with the way this place is mismanaged and cannot wait until my leasing contract is up. PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF AND RENT SOMEWHERE ELSE. I am not looking for apologies, only to warn future potential residents to save your money and wellbeing.
RENTERS AND STUDENTS BEWAREHorrible management practices, pot holes everywhere, obnoxious parties on every night. Tons of fake 5 Star reviews from the management.Do not rent here, do not live here. You will be stolen from, your apartment has toxic black mold in its filters. The equipment and appliances are dated and barely functional.
Staff is very kind and friendly. Also, the new dog park that was put in this year is very nice!
Moved here in August and have not been very impressed. We moved in and our sliding glass door has a huge hole from ceiling to floor that they just covered with duct tape. Also any time you try to talk to management they are unfriendly and disorganized. Don’t be alarmed when you are charged for every little tiny thing. Also, no communication they just charge you and don’t communicate it with you at all. Also when I moved in it stated there was a dog park, which there is not. We did get a renovated apartment though, and it is really nice. Ac is not central though so beware, just in the wall in loving room can get hot in summer.
I have lived at Western Pines for two years and will be returning for a third. The apartment is in a perfect location, 5 minutes from WMU and 7 from West Main Street. The apartment itself is nice and makes for a perfect home for college students who don’t want to be in a party location. All of our neighbors are nice and respect each other. It is always a joy to go into the office and see Laura. Anytime we need something or if there is a maintenance issue, the staff is quickly helping us.
Western Pines is a great place to call home. The staff is responsive, friendly, and extremely helpful. Laura specifically has been so great at helping with any and everything we’ve needed while living here and she always has a positive and enthusiastic attitude! We love living here!
After living here for two years, I would recommend it to any WMU student or low-budget family. It’s a wonderful, low-cost apartment that includes everything but the consumers bill. The office staff is always extremely polite and friendly, and the maintenance crew responds quickly as well. I’ve never had a problem and have renewed my lease for another year!
Let me start by saying that this apartment complex is the very definition of a slum. I first got my apartment in February of 2019 and I have never experienced a more poorly managed, filthy place of living in my entire life. As a professional in real estate and a manager of my own rental properties, I do not recommend anyone with a respect for their own personal well being, both health wise and financially, should ever sign a lease with Trillium Management / Western Pines. The management staff and the new landlord at this establishment are conniving and infinitely disrespectful. Here is a list of just a few things that I have found wrong with this run down slum -Right when I moved in I immediately found black mold in the air filters of the apartment and I had to repeatedly call the leasing office to get someone to come out and replace the filter. Both toilets in my 2 bedroom 1.5 bathroom apartment have been nearly unusable the entire time that I have had the lease at this apartment complex. Laura, the landlords partner in crime refuses to maintain or replace the toilets which made it nearly impossible to make the apartment a livable environment.Additionally, since day one of moving into this run down filth, the washer and dryer in the apartment building I am in has been completely nonfunctional for the entire 5 months of my living there.Frequently you will find trash in the hallways as the residents seem to be too lazy to take care of their own filth and when you call the leasing office in an attempt to get maintenance to clean up you are told that it will be cleaned up and then the problem is ignored for the next few weeks, or even months. The entire apartment complex smells as if was abandoned 20 years ago, like a disgusting, moldy, trashed & neglected trench home.Furthermore, the hot water in the apartment complex nearly never functions and the water is literally brown or nearly black whenever I turn on the faucet.Continuing.... only two weeks ago I walked out of my apartment when I smelled gas so heavily that I thought if I tried to light a candle in my apartment that the entire place would go up in flames, and when I called the leasing office, I was met with aggression and told that they would try to fix it.Overall, I wish anyone luck that must live here due to their situations, but I will make it my personal goal to ensure that nobody that I know ever, ever, ever signs a lease with this run down and corrupt establishment.
Beautiful place to live. Always have great care from apartment management. Have been here for almost 3 years and had several tiny issues that were resolved in less then 24 hours with happy positive help from workers and management. If you dont live here you should!
I lived at Western Pines for 2 years while I went to WMU. The location is great and it is your typical cheap college apartment. We had minor issues here and there throughout our stay and maintenance came and solved them within the next couple of days every time. The apartments are very roomy, which is hard to find for college housing.
If your looking for a place in Kalamazoo, look no further. This is a really great place to call home. The office staff is very friendly and responds quickly!
My friend Matthew lives at this place and while we were pulling into the parking lot for guests my car tire fell into a massive whole in their parking lot and completely broke off my rotor!!This place absolutely neglects their property! I feel bad for Matthew! They just kept jacking up his rent!! I wish he had the money to sue this place!
My friend Tanner lives here man and whenever I stay with him I just feel bad for the guy. Half the time his water is legit brown or just doesnt work. The guy found mold in his air conditioner and his doctor found toxic mold polymers in his lung in a recent blood test.I would not recommend anyone signing a lease with this apartment complex if you value your health.
Lived here two years and have had absolutely no problems. Other reviews talk about the internet which was rough definitely, but they upgraded about nine months ago and everything has been fantastic since. Management and maintenance is very nice. Internet, cable, trash is all included in rent. Fairly quiet. Pretty affordable. Its about a mile off campus which is walkable. I walked to and from class the past year and the woods in the back (which Im not even sure is on property) could use some trash clean up. Other than that, nothing but positive things to say.
The office staff here is the best part of the complex, so friendly and accommodating! Its amazing one person can keep it all straight and still be so kind and helpful.
Staff is nice. Rent is affordable and the apartments are pretty decently sized. They finally upgraded the internet - hallelujah. Best place I’ve lived during college so far.
The location is nice because its tucked back from West Michigan but still close to WMUs campus. Internet works much better than in the past, and we have not had any issues with it this year. The management just got a new owner but the same people work in the office, who know everyone by name the minute you walk in the door. I think this complex has a much different feel than you can find anywhere else, and is beautiful in the summer when all the trees are green. The only downfall is the many potholes all along the driveway and in the lots.
This place literally sucks. The gym is just a shack with a few pieces of equipment and an unfinished bathroom. The AC units are in the living room and doesnt push the air to the bedrooms. had to sleep in the living room all summer because of how hot it would get in the bedroom. Plus the walls are painted this ugly brown color so there is absolutely no light that comes in from the windows, plus theres no light in the living room, only in the dining rooms which doesnt light up the whole living room. Loud parties all the time I can hear music until 3 am on weekdays. Will never rent again.
The management at this slum are disrespectful and conniving. My grandson had black mold in the air filters and the entire complex reaks of trash.Do not sign a lease with this corrupt management company. Laura in the leasing office is disrespectful and knowledgeable of her corrupt business practices yet has a suspicious relationship with the landlord of this management company. The water is almost 100% of the time brown and my grandson found that the hot water nearly never functions properly.
Unfurnished, nicely sized, fairly priced apartments! Within walking distance of WMU and has a little workout area so if youre not too into gyms you dont need to go get a membership somewhere. Carports available for a fair price as well. Its meant for college kids mostly I think so obviously theres the occasional party that gets a little loud. Also doors slam loudly at times. Much better than the previous place I lived and will be sad when I move out (will be getting married and they dont have 1 bedroom apartments). The only thing that I dont like about this place is that the complex sign is tucked into the road too far after a tree so its really hard for guests to find (hint: the white line on the side of the road ends for the driveway which it doesnt do for the apartment complex next door).
This is seriously the perfect place to live if you are going to WMU. The apartment staff are so incredibly nice and helpful with everything you need. They did update the internet and cable so that is no longer an issue. I would highly recommend these apartments to everyone! (:
Too Noisy!! The office does nothing about consistent noise from the same building I can never get any asleep!!
Ignore the bad reviews, not only were these people not in the system but my friends and I love this place and looked at over a dozen other apartments. Most housing near WMUs campus is full of frat boys and overpriced rent. We are all WMU students. My review is broken into categories.COST: This place is an amazing bang for the buck, we pay rent, electric, and gas. Thats it. Other places after ultilities were $400-$500+. This would be good if you got college buddies, a couple, or families. We usually spend $60-$90 in ultilities, divide that by 3 thats $20-$30 per person, and we have lots of electronics. Theres also optional covered parking for $25. So we pay about $350 per month for everything.GYM: Yes, the gym is bad, its fine if you want to do cardio, but anything else its lackluster.BUILDING: Yes, its an old building and has a few issues, yet maintenance has fixed our minor issues within a few days. The only minor complaint we have is that the windows have poor sound deadening and heat resistance, the complex hallways also get really hot or cold. To the review that said the AC sucks, we literally just put a box fan in our hallway to blow the AC into our bedrooms.STORAGE: This apartment has lots of closets, cabinets, etc. If you dont have room for stuff, then youre probably a hoarder.KITCHEN: Its alright, its small, ok storage, appliances are just old.BATHROOMS: Surprisingly nice. Good storage. High end tiles.PARKING: Never had a problem, theres also visitor lots. The road here is pretty garbage though.BEDROOMS: Plenty of outlets, storage, and has additional hook ups. They are a bit on the small side but work great for us.LOCATION: Its right next to campus, that was a big incentive for us. The city bus also stops at this apartment, you can even comfortably walk or bike to campus, youre also close enough to every shop you can think of.STAFF: The office ladies have always been friendly and informative with us, even the maintenance guys are cool, feels like family here. They always give notices ahead of time.NOISE: Theres parties on Saturday nights, other than that, its pretty calm. Surprisingly very little road noise. The train is something to get used to but doesnt come by often.OUTDOORS: Lots of trees, sidewalks, etc. I often see people walking their dogs, hanging out outside, etc. Its just a nice place. Big yard as well.LIGHTING: Was bad when we first moved in, we replaced all of the bulbs with bright LEDs, this dropped our power bill significantly and its bright. There is no living room light, add a lamp or wall strips and that fixes the problem.SPACE: Its great for how much it costs. I wish we had a bigger kitchen. But our living room is huge. We have people over all the time and its plenty of room. The bedrooms are just the right size. We also chose the 2nd floor and love our balcony.GARBAGE: Always great, never was overfilled and its a 30 second walk. Included with rent.LEASE: Our leases are individual which makes it safe. I also didnt need a cosigner.SAFETY: Each complex has two solid security doors, buzzers systems, etc. You also have the main door. Theres also very little crime here, especially compared to the frat infested places. It is Kalamazoo after all, Kalamazoo is not a safe city.INTERNET/CABLE: Blazing fast internet. I dont watch TV but we get plenty of channels. I bought an expensive router and its spectrum, we get 120mbps download and 10mbps upload. Pretty impressive for not paying for internet.
Awful. my friend freddie lives here and i was visiting him today and the sink water was BROWN. i’m not tryna get tetanus.
Im going to talk to a lawyer, they increase rent prices with out warning you until you go to sign the lease. It is illegal to with hold that information and not post it for residents to see. I will never rent here again and urge that you dont either.
Very cheap apartment, but the cheap apartment also comes with lots of maintenance problems. Fairly small but decent size for a college student.
I often visit my grandson Freddie that lives at this apartment complex and he almost never even has running hot water! This place be the trenches!!!
The place itself is pretty nice for college living, although their internet makes it impossible to do any type of homework during the day.
Very unhappy with the internet service provided and very dissapointed with the staff.
