The salvation army has helped me and my husband out for years wether it be a shower when we had no hot water or lunch and dinner. They are very giving. Thanks to everyone who keeps those wheels turning.
If you need help with rental assistance or electric this is the place to go. They have assistance for both. Get help now while funds still last.
What can you say! Bravo helping people in need is the most honorable and worth while endeaver man has ever undertaken! Sally (as I call it) Does it so well Bravo. Best example of kindness and compassion I have seen in a long time.
Salvation Army so much can be said. The salvation army has a church, social services department, center of hope shelter and a thrift store. I worked in social services for over 5 years and enjoyed my heavy work loaded days by helping many people. All of the programs that are community directed are a huge help to individuals in our and surrounding communities. The yearly bell ringing program brings in money to help with the operations of all these programs. The salvation army does fund many things without help, but help is always appreciated and needed.
There are absolutely programs available, for the homeless or otherwise displaced individuals to obtain shelter, clothes, housing, utility assistance, and other avenues designed to help make for an exceptional foundation of improving ones life and for many necessities to improve overall health and quality of life.
They provide a much needed service to the community. I have fed my family many times from here and am grateful for that. I was also able to receive diapers once for my grandson. They also do give vouchers for clothing/shoes and offer other assistance.
Pantry on wens and friday..With this covid, you have to call as they are running out and have to count things as they get it.Please be patient.
We really need to change a few things.Outside water source. May a nice cool water cooler if some kind. A fellow gets pretty thirsty with no wheels and no water source outside. A big part of us is water. And do you think the lord would give us a drink without forcing us to go inside where we were not comfortable for whatever reasons there may be that made us feel that way. Even if it was just me that felt uncomfortable about going inside. I shouldnt suffer the consequences of my failing. The lord loves all his children.
Life is not always how we expect it to be, and sometimes things happen that are unforeseen, that we have no control over & we end up at a dead end, with nowhere to go and no one to turn to for help. They call this place the Center for Hope & Im trying to figure out why, because they certainly dont treat you as if theres any hope left for you. Theres no encouragement, no compassion, no caring or kindness of any kind. Youre lucky if you can get a smile in return, as if it was my job to make them comfortable in a strange place. No one tells you what is expected, what the rules are, where anything is and what you are allowed to do....Unless you break a rule, or do something they dont think they want you to do at any given moment, depends on the mood of the person in control sitting behind the desk. The food is like slop in a prison camp most of time, but when youre hungry what choice do you have? And if youre trying to come in out of the cold, forget that---NEW RULE: It has to be 32 degrees outside or below before you can come inside to warm up or just rest your weary body for awhile. The whole place is filthyand needs a good power washing and some volunteers that truly care about the conditions of the place---humans have to stay here. If you dont care about these people, why should they want to better themselves, especially if they have no encouragement or assistance with information, a smile even to let them know someone is in their corner. A whole new staff with proper training, a good cleaning and so much more is needed in this facility. So, the ball is in your court now, what will you choose to do, now that you know?
I believe Center of Hope management should let people come in at night (who are homeless but not residents) and sleep on the cot when its raining -- but they generally will not. A lot of these homeless people would like to be residents and come in but there are no beds open. There needs to be a better, more sympathetic approach to meeting the needs of all the homeless in the street but there is not. Obviously no one cares about these people outside and how theyre enduring, but someone should.
I go to salvation army to pick up foods and cat foods once a month.
There are some awesome people who work here. They are there to help anyone in need.
I serve dinner here to neighbors in need with my church group. The neighbors are always respectful and grateful. Staff has a lot to do and always happy for a volunteer to lend a hand.
Dirty, food is unhealthy for a severely impaired type 1 diabetic who is uninsured and homeless. No medical care, job training or counseling services to help a person figure out how to turn their life around. Not a safe environment for people in recovery as there are constant drug addicts who are threatening peoples sobriety. Rude staff. Cant check out for a night to stay with a family member here and there because they give your bed away. Or if you end up relapsing or in the hospital. There are no services here to encourage hope. Its a sad depressing place that makes people suffering from mental illness worse instead of better. Shame on Jefferson City for not having a safe and healthy program or even one other shelter at all!! No lockers to even keep your few things you own like a wallet safe from all the theivery. Sad place.
Called with questions and kept getting hung up on because the lady didnt want to answer the question about services. I would give no stars
Love the help this place gives out. From its food pantries to clothes to families in need they r the best
I was told by a woman on the phone that I could only come in as a resident if I registered first Monday thru Friday 9 to 3 but I came to learn later that if someone cant come in that time, they may be allowed to come in and sleep on a cot and then register at the next designated time, M-F 9 to 3. I wasnt told that when I called and inquired. I think complete and consistent information should be told to everyone who calls. I wonder how many people sleep outside because complete information isnt told to them when they call.
I needed the services of the salvation army back in late December and knowing that in 14 years Ive been in Missouri I had to stay there on 2 other occasions both for less than 6 weeks because I have always been a little embarssed and to prideful to feel like someone was supporting me. Both times I never had any issues but this time I was giving 24 hours to get off the property when I had just gotten the best paying job in 14 years. No direct REASON was giving I recorded the meeting that Brian and Shelia brought me into and since have lost that job because I have been unable to find a new place to stay. Shelia is a monitor with red hair that called me a bum and a bully for assuming something without actually information. It was because of her direct actions that I was asked to leave. And until the salvation army decides that monitors who feel empowered over people who like myself dont want to be there people like her are a dark stain on the overall mission of the salvation army. And I unfortunately cant recommended ANYONE staying here until they get rid of the monitor who gets a rush over treating vulnerable men and women as if she can make or break them. She told me morning would happen after she called me a bum and bully in fact she lied when writing up page after page about me that I was told about but never shown. No other monitor in or at any other time can or has ever written me up mostly I have been raised a good man who respects everyone. Why would I when I just got the best paying job in 15 years put that at risk by doing anything to jeopardise my place to live short as it may have been, I hadnt even got my first paycheck when I was given 24hours to leave, they 2 weeks earlier gave A resident who FAILED A DRUG TEST FOR METH 9 DAYS BEFORE HE WAS TOLD TO LEAVE. they are saying that I making 15 dollars an hour am WORSE RISK THAN DRUG addict. Where is the light at the salvation army in Jefferrson City...
Prices are reasonable. Store is neat and clean and orangized. Have a variety of house hold items for sale.
If you need help . . go here. They will help and guide you. This is not where your social worker is. This is not the holiday Inn. THEY are not responsible for you . . YOU are. If you cant pull up your big girl/ big boy pants they are not going to stand there and hold anything up. They OWE you nothing but their heart makes our difference. So treat with respect-always.
The food is good when groups such as churches bring in and serve. I personally had not such a good experience. Never seen a case worker for help such as for future, some employees were rude or rules differ between employees thru each shift which makes our hard, bad, depressing, feeling lost scared etc new lifestyle which for one I did not chose nor was rightfully put in this position of being homeless just makes it worse especially with young children. I personally would think they would be open 24/7 for homeless especially with children no matter the weather or cleaning of dining room. Suggest and alternative room to go during these times.
They gave me food in my belly, clothes on my back, a bed to sleep in and my wonderful man
The staff always make me feel welcome and the food is excellent
Freindly careing staff offering a hand up to fellow pepole in need .
They do let the community eat three meals a day here. This is positive and something most Salvation Army shelters dont allow.
The Salvation Army Center of Hope in Jefferson City is not a very caring place. Now, as people dont pay for the services, you have to ask yourself what good a negative review on Google means. It would be better if more people use services, not less because they may put pressure on the SACH to do better.I hope the board, contributors, government, United Way, and all who have control over and financial input into the SACH read this, as it is a serious review by someone who has worked in social services a long time. An extremely negative and unfriendly attitude pervades there. Staff and volunteers open and close the food pantry on a whim, depending on their feelings. IF they feel like opening they will, if not, they wont. Favoritism, lies, unprofessional-ism, and outright contempt and hatred toward consumers is the norm. It is not an easy service to run, but the outright dis-courteousness makes me ask, is this what most Christians do? If so Im glad I no longer consider myself among them.
Very helpful
I love to go and help out and always happy with the service and the people that works there.
As soon as me and my daughter arrived there were 2 women standing by the door need I let you know Im 8 months pregnant. By the time me and my 7yr old got out the car the woman had already walked in and locked the door without informing me that maybe I was too late or there was nothing else to give they just locked us out!
The older 80 year old monitor who works the front desk overnight is inept at what she does. She makes coffee so weak in the mornings, that its ridiculous and she doesnt even make enough coffee and its gone before even breakfast is served. I dont think shes good at what she does and I think she should be replaced.
They have a lot of clothes some things arent to badly priced
A good place to get hell when you need it.
Its a good place to go and eat and then care for you
When I finally got a real person on the phone, she tells me to dial 3, I said that number is just a recording. She says I have to leave a message - I say theres no option for that she says ok and transfers me. The other person I talked to was a man, and he said Ill be over there in a sec ....Soooo yeah- Not helpful at all, and rather rude.
Really like the people that work there
Their food pantry. The people that work at the front desk need a class on working with the public. Not everyone likes asking for help with food but, you dont have to also make me feel twice as bad by talking down to me.
Rude.disrespectful. girl at desk.pull that on someone else.ill seek help elsewhere.
They dont like people that not from here and if ya have any warrants for your rest including if theyre not expeditable they will not let you stay there and they say theyre about God
They always said dont have funds i need help with my electric bills
Very friendly and helpful staff
This one helps a lot with groceries and pet food
