I love to go fishing with Andrew! I have just taken up the sport - I’ve only caught two fish worthy of note - but he always shows us a good time. He is friendly and engaging, eager to make sure we catch some fish, and is always respectful of other fisherman and boaters on the water. And more importantly, I’m learning to appreciate the love of the sport. Thank you, Andrew!
I booked with Captain Andrew to surprise my husband while we were in Jacksonville visiting family. Captain Andrew knows the area and is extremely comfortable getting to remote places to find the fish. The entire day was such an amazing experience. He had everything we needed from sunscreen to rods. He is a very skilled teacher and patient. We can’t wait to book with him again on our next trip down.
Had a really great experience with Captain Andrew. I’m a beginner so was a little nervous, but he was really patient and helped me a lot with my casting technique. And best of all I caught my first ever redfish! Also saw some cool wildlife during the day. Highly recommend!
Great experience with Captain Andrew. Both of us in our party were amateur fly fisherman. Andrew was very patient with us and gave us tips the entire time. He even gave me a quick casting lesson at the fly shop the day before our charter. One of us caught our first red fish on fly and I caught my first fish ever on fly. Awesome experience and I would gladly hire Andrew again in the future.
Ive fished with a lot of guides over the years and I can truthfully say that Capt. Andrew Mizell is one of the very best. He has always been patient with my sometimes less than adequate casting and politely helpful when the situation called for it. Capt. Andrew has consistently put me where the redfish were and done everything in his power to help me catch them. He is super knowledgeable, professional and a fun guy to spend time on the water with. I look forward to many more charters with Capt. Mizell.
Wow! It was cold. Really cold. Fish didn’t seem to mind though. Andrew knew where to find them and boy did he! He put us on the fish and we quickly forgot about the cold. An amazing charter and a knowledgeable captain. I even have it on good athourity that Andrew once caught a red while chilling to bluegrass and drinking a much deserved celebratory beer...so the story goes.
I’ve fished with many guides over the years, and Andrew Mizell is one of the finest I’ve ever met. Andrew is a true gentleman and a real professional. He took me fly fishing for redfish, and it was one of the best fishing experiences that I have had. Andrew was patient, calm and very knowledgeable of the local fisheries including habitat, water quality and fish populations. Andrew put me in front of many schools of redfish and you always have a sense that he really has a passion for fishing and guiding. I hooked my largest redfish ever and had multiple chances at many cruising fish. As a former fisheries biologist I enthusiastically recommend this guide, as a true sportsman, conservationist and an impressive representative of one of Florida’s finest fishing guides.
Great trip for my 6 year old son and I. Andrew was awesome and super patient with my son. We caught a bunch of trout under the dock lights, and Andrew was kind enough to clean and filet them for us. My son had an absolute blast.
I fished with Andrew two days. He worked harder than any guide I’ve encountered. He’s great company and stays positive and enthusiastic even when in tough conditions. I would recommend him to any committed fly angler looking for some hardcore redfish action to put your 8wt to work.
What an incredible day on the water with Captain Andrew. Had us on fish all afternoon. I would highly recommend you book a trip and be ready to get on the redfish.
If you are in NW Florida and looking to catch some fish on the Fly Rod I definitely recommend booking a day with Andrew! My wife and I had an incredible day fishing with him!
I have fished with enough guides to know the good ones from the bad, and Capt Andrew Mizell is one of the best Ive had. He is extremely knowledgeable about the fishery and knows where to find fish. We had some tough, technical conditions today and we worked fish that we sighted just feet from the boat, and others that were pushing water on the brink of reasonable casting distance. Capt Andrew turned the boat quickly when needed to give me those 9 to 11 oclock windows and coached in a calm and professional manner. With a few of my sloppy casts I gave him plenty of reason to get cranky, but much to his credit he never did. I hope you get a chance to fish with him. I will certainly book him again whenever I come to the area.
I have fished with Southern Marsh Charters a number of times and had a great time on each occasion! Captain Mizell knows where to find them and works exceptionally hard to ensure you have a fun, memorable trip each time you go out. Can’t wait for my next time in Jacksonville!
Had an awesome day with Captain Andrew! He knows the water and put me on a lot of fish. Could not have asked for a harder working, more knowledgeable guide.
I have had the privileged of fishing with Capt. Andrew Mizell two times over the course of two years while traveling for business. Andrew is a wonderful fly fishing guide and boat Captain. He has consistently put me on fish, and we made a good team working for Redfish in the sallow back waters. He also offers dock light fishing after sunset for Reds and Trout which is a lot of fun as its not as hot at night and offers an all together different take on fly fishing... Truly something to consider!Do yourself a favor if you plan on using Andrews services as Jacksonville Redfish are very different than Louisiana Reds. This Redfish fishery is very special!!! You get to cast to shallow (4 to 12 inch deep) Redfish here in Jacksonville. Fish that are spread out and spook VERY easily and its for that reason that its a MUCH more rewarding experience than Louisiana where the Reds will eat just about anything put in the water. This means that your guide has to work harder to put you on fish. Make it worth your while by practicing your casting a bit before you go. Your goal is to be able to put a fly in a hula hoop at 40 feet minimum, within 70 feet if possible in under 10 seconds from the ready position. If you can do that constantly in the windy, hot and humid condition, then you will be able to do your job well, thus letting Andrew do his... A true fly fishing power team! Dont let this discourage you... This place is special! You wont catch as many Redfish as in Louisiana, but thats the whole point!!! These fish make you earn it! Thats what makes each Redfish in Andrews back yard a true trophy.
Ive booked Capt. Andrew on multiple occasions when family is in town. Hell go the distance to put you on quality fish and to make sure you have a great experience out in the marsh!
I was fortunate to spend a half-day with Capt Andrew recently chasing Redfish in the shallows. I was very impressed by his knowledge of the area and everywhere he took us there were fish tailing and crusing the shallows. I had more opportunities than i could count to put my fly in front of some very nice redfish. Capt Andrew is an excellent and encouraging guide and runs a very nicely outfitted skiff. I would not hesitate to book more time on the water with him anytime Im in Jacksonville.
Capt. Andrew knows the marsh like the back of his hand. Great time guaranteed along with quality fish!
My wife and I had an amazing afternoon flood tide fishing trip on September 5th with Captian Andrew Mizell, owner/operator of Southern Marsh Charters. Captian Andrew is an awesome guide, and worked hard putting us on the the tailing redfish. He was also super patient and answered many of our questions. Further, I learned a lot about improving my fly fishing techniques. We are looking forward to fishing with him again. We highly recommend Captain Andrew and cant wait until our next trip with him.
