Been lucky enough to call this place home for the last 5 years. The gym being 24 hr access is a huge plus, but the fact that it has such specialized equipment makes it even better. Everyone there is more than willing to help spread their knowledge and cheer you on during a big lift. The new expansion with turf just puts the icing on the cake for the perfect gym.
If you want to learn how to train well this is the place to be. Not only excellent facilities and selection of equipment, but if you take the time to get to know people youll discover a wealth of knowledge and experience available to learn from.
Best gym in Iowa City BY FAR. Wide selection of powerlifting and strongman equipment, monolifts, deadlift platforms, indoor turf for sled pulls and carries. Though the gym exceeds my needs for working out, it is the people that keep me coming back. Magni is a family and an unbelievably positive environment for serious and casual lifters alike.
Phenomenal place to lift. Great equipment and environment. Above all fantastic hospitality. I would recommend this gym to anyone serious about getting stronger
Training environment that would be very hard to beat. There is an extensive variety of equipment, the expansion now allows for more indoor strongman and other non stationary strength training, and the people cannot be beat.Primarily a powerlifting gym but accommodates strongman, Olympic lifting, Highland game training and overall strength training. This gym with its welcoming committee of members doggos has people coming from all over to take in the training atmosphere.
Best gym in eastern Iowa, just expanded. Has everything you need for every group of lifters with a great set of owners
Ive been training here for a few months now...couldnt have made a better choice. The atmosphere is great and the people are very friendly.
Great gyms offer 2 things; good equipment and good people. Magni has both!
Great, friendly gym. Its more catered towards powerlifting but Ive seen all sorts of exercises being done, nothing exclusive about it. I dont believe any classes are offered but just about everyone Ive met is inviting and most are willing to give advice or knowlege about fitness.Just be prepared to be around some of the strongest humans youve ever seen in person. Some of the men and women here are national competitors, and the training Ive seen proves that.In terms of equipment, theres two squat racks, a monster rack (Im not sure the official name, but it is essentially another squat rack). Two bench presses, two deadlifting platforms, and a BUNCH of different bars, bands, straps, pretty much anything you need. Theres a dumbbell rack with dumbbells going up to 150 lbs. And a few machines for leg extensions, pulldowns, and chest supported rows.Overall, a great gym if youre on a budget but still would like to work with barbells (looking at you PF). Not a Smith machine in sight.Only drawbacks that I can think of is that its in a warehouse, and the only form of a/c is large industrial floor fans and opening the garage door. These work fine until the weather starts pushing 90°+, then it gets almost a little too hot to lift in. Also, you may have noticed theres not an abundance of racks to work with, so working in with others or adjusting your routine to accommodate should be something you expect walking in on busy days/times.But like I said, great gym, great people, perfect place for gains.
Met One of the owners on our way to Vegas. Awesome dude!
