They two wonderful ladies that helped me today were absolutely grand! I came in needing a new zipper for my jeans and they were completely knowledgeable of exactly I needed and steered me in the right direction at an extremely reasonable price.The customer service was phenomenal. Took me back to a time when people knew how to talk to and value their customers. Sad to hear one of the ladies will be retiring soon enough but happy to see that these same values of customer care seem to been passed down to the lady of a younger generation.Thank you for your Varsity Cleaners Staff

Stay away from this shop, not only did I not get my dry cleaning back from here for almost three months, but then had the audacity to over charge me by $30.00 then what I was quoted. If you want to be ripped off and not get your items back in a timely fashion then this place is for you.

Will clean and line a full-length wool coat for about $125. Tailor did a good job and didnt skimp on quality. Gave me extra lining fabric. Just dropped off my husbands peacoat for same service.

We sent two area rugs there the Monday after Thanksgiving, they were due back on January 5th as they were sent off to a 3rd party in Wisconsin. Called on Jan. 5th, they had not arrived....January 8th I called again saying that I wanted them back the following day, clean: or not. I picked them up on the 9th, they were wrapped in plastic Varsity assured me they had been cleaned, got them home unrolled them, they had not been touched. I called Varsity, they said that they had never had a problem in 30 years with that 3rd party cleaner. As you can see below in at least one other review that was untrue.I completely cleaned out a vacuum cleaner cannister, vacuumed both rugs and took the contents in a baggie to them. I pointed out as the assistant manager repeated the lie that they never had a problem with the third party before about the review where that same cleaner had burned a hole and ruined a carpet, well that was a long time ago was the reply. I said that they wrapped the rugs up sent them back and had not cleaned them at all. They said that they would get back to me, it has been 11 days. They took me for over $200 dollars.

I read many of the negative reviews, and was uncertain as to whether or not I should come here. One thing I did discover, however, is that most dry cleaners in the area do not sew on patches (military uniform needed patches sewn on).The 2 ladies I spoke with (when dropping off and picking up my uniform) were both very friendly. Service was done quickly, and was not as expensive as I was expecting.Very great customer service and nice people. Will definitely go here from now on.

Whenever i have needed any dry cleaning. Varsity has been my place to go. Fast, professional service and the people are so nice. Best place in Iowa City.

Second weekend in a row I came and there are not open. Even though there sign says they are.

Varsity damaged my item and would not make it right. He took no responsibility. I asked for dry cleaning and instead he washed the item because he didnt want to turn on the dry cleaning machine for 1 item. Took no responsibility and would not replace my item.

Seriously though, DO NOT GO HERE!First, I took a suit there to get some stains out, it came back in the EXACT same shape as I dropped it off. I thought maybe it was just a bad stain. No big deal.I took a couple nice shirts there, same thing. Then I pointed out the stain to them (which was clearly visible in the first place) and told them to see if they could try again. It came back and they stain was actually gone. Good.So I took one more set of shirts, pants and ties there. The pants looked the exact same. The shirt maybe smelled a little better. The tie had a whole bunch of water/beer stains on it from a weeding, clearly visible, before I took it in. When I came back, it looked THE EXACT SAME as when I took it in. Stains STILL clearly visible. So again, I asked them to redo it. I came back a couple days later and it looked like the put it through a garbage disposal. Seriously.Therefore I have come to realize, unless you actually point out a stain to them, they will not even touch it. They will take it to the back and hang it up. When you come back they bring it back out to you. The time in between it just sits there on the rack, maybe it will get a spritz of febreeze. And then when you do point out the stains, they will just absolutely demolish the piece of clothing.Not happy at all.But hey, if you want to take your clothes here, go right ahead.

If I could give them zero stars, I would. I dropped off a very nice, expensive rug to be dry cleaned in the middle of June. They informed me that due to its size, it would be sent out to a third party to be cleaned and be back within TWO to FOUR weeks. The care instructions on this rug specifically said to dry clean.Two months went by and I called to find out the status of the rug and when I could pick it up. I called several times a week for a few weeks. Each time getting a different answer. At one point I was told that this third party place had lost the papers for the rug and didnt know who it belonged to, so it was still in their possession. Finally, I went in to Varsity Cleaners one day. The owner was there. He brought the rug out and informed me that it had gotten a giant hole in the middle during the cleaning process. I looked at it and sure enough, a very large section of the rug had completely unraveled and had created a giant hole.I felt like for over two months, they had told me different things because no one wanted to be up front about what had happened to my rug. I informed the owner that I would not be paying for anything, nor would I be taking the rug home until something was done to resolve this issue. He suggested sending it out to have the rug cut on each side of the whole, reseamed, and then sewn together. Which would look TERRIBLE. There is no way it would even match up if something like that was done. This rug is irreplaceable as they do not sell it anywhere anymore. Not only that, it was given to me as a gift and has a lot of meaning to me.It is now nearing the end of October and this issue still has not been resolved. Extremely frustrated about this experience and will never bring anything to them again.

Thought the local clientele was respectful of others property. Saw a pair of earbuds that were not stolen.

Blazer came back with random, deep creases on the arms. Pants now have 2 pleats. The stain on the button-up shirt is gone but it came back more wrinkled than when I took it in. Varsity cleaners has multiple drop off locations under other store names. I wouldnt recommend them.

Dropped of my shirt and got someone else’s shirt back. They told me to buy another shirt and they would refund me which they did, but I was most annoyed about their nonchalant demeanor. Additionally, buying another shirt doesn’t really replace the shirt you liked and now lost.

This place is so frustrating. Today I went to the Gilbert street location in Iowa City and arrived at 12:01pm and the store closed at 12:00. All I needed to do was drop off three shirts, and of course I got stuck on Dubuque Street because of construction, Gilbert Street because of construction, and hit every red light. I called on my way at exactly 12:00pm with no answer and pulled in the parking lot at 12:01, saw a woman dart to the window to flip the closed sign, went up to the drive thru drop off, and the lady was standing there at the window and shook her head at me and pointed at the closed sign. Seriously lady? I am finding a new dry cleaner.

Used to like to do wash there but now over run with homeless sleeping inside and so many washers that are rusty, dirty or not working. Needs a remodel.

Worst experience Ive ever had. Laundry from entire place is stolen at the same time and cameras dont work. They refuse to take responsibility for inoperable cameras and do not wish to refund anyone or even apologize. Unprofessional and dissatisfying.
