Worst place I have ever been to. Overpriced & underdone. Wouldnt tow my vehicle to their place even though their website says they can. Wouldnt believe me when I stated there was air in the hydraulics of the clutch after they rebuilt the clutch. Ive worked on cars for almost 40 years. Started with my dad when just a boy. When I went to collect my vehicle from warranty work after clutch rebuild, an employee started it and showed me that the vehicle could be put into every gear (while keeping the clutch fully depressed the entire time). He was trying to prove nothing was wrong. But he never let the clutch pedal out, then press it in again, to shift into other gears. I took the vehicle to the corner and the gears ground when I tried to put into gear taking off from the 4-way stop because the clutch failed to fully dis-engage (air bubbles). Clutch not performing satisfactorily. Problem not fixed, air still in the hydraulics and the warranty they so proudly claim to stand behind is bogus. I turned vehicle around to take it back to Empeys after gear grind, then turned around again to take it home. Rather take my vehicle to another facility and get it done right. If they had been polite when I retrieved my vehicle from warranty work, I would have taken it back for them to fix. But I guess I ruffled some feathers when they thought theyd already done the job perfectly. Not worth the hassle from agitated empeys employees who wont believe me.

Reliable and friendly service, they try and accommodate for peoples needs and schedules. My preferred shop for repairs and maintenance that I dont want to do. This is an old crew thats been working together for years and they really know their stuff.

While returning to Washington from a recent road trip, the electrical system in our motorhome quit near Idaho Falls. The vehicle was left at Empeys overnight and we were called the next day and told of the problem and repairs required. The staff was courteous, helpful and informative about what repairs were needed to put us back on the road. We appreciated having a shop where the staff cares about the small details and listened to our concerns. The remainder of the trip was uneventful thanks to the staff at Empeys. Absolute highway robbery of a repair shop. Price quote was hundreds more than even the dealership and each time they call to update you on diagnostic/repair(days later, when they said tomorrow) its more expensive and more things need repair. Even told me things needed to be replaced that had recently been replaced... took back to shop that had done the recent replacements(still fully under warranty for replacement and labor) said everything is perfect. LIARS, THIEVES, OVERPRICED, AVOID!!!

Greetings Fellow Travelers,I was hoping to write an entirely new review for Empeys. Alas, I  couldnt figure out how to do a separate review so heres an update...Ive moved from Ammon into Idaho falls but based on the experiences Ive had with Empeys I didnt hesitate to keep taking my car there.  Theres a few situations in life that I avoid changing once I find what works.  For example a barber, dentist, brain surgeon or a mechanic.  Based on my experiences with the folks at Empeys Ill continue to go way out of my way to take my vehicles there.Why you ask?  Fair question. Heres a few reasons...1.  TRUST:   The folks that make up the Empeys team are trustworthy.  Never have I felt that any of the work they suggested my vehicle needed wasnt important, much less so they could make an extra $buck.  Also, they have more than enough business from what I can see.2.  VALUE:  These people are OVERLY qualified in my experience.  All of the work theyve done is sound and each time I drive away feeling like my vehicle has a clean bill of health.  In addition to say, an oil change, the mechanic assigned will inspect my car, then send me a detailed report. In that report are repairs that are urgently needed, as well as repairs to plan for and everything else thats up to snuff.3.  FRIENDLY:  These folks are over-the-top personable.  When you do give them a call or if you are fortunate enough to get your vehicle in for work you will likely meet Greg.  This fellow is phenomenally easy going and fun to talk to.  I posted a pic of him.  Other folks Ive met there (and theyre all great) are Shane, and Bruce.  Also, this last time a guy I havent met who did a great job servicing and inspecting my car deserves mention.  Thanks Andrew. My boyfriend took in our car for some work. Was charged almost $300 just for diagnostic testing(not including labor cost). They replaced some minor issues and one bigger issue. The bill came out to almost $1000 dollars. The car just broke down a week later from a problem they didn’t find. Will not be coming back!

I love the personal service with a detailed inspection report complete with photos. Afterwards, I can decide to have the work done, do it myself or not at all. My questions have always been answered to my satisfaction without feeling up sold on services I dont need.

I had taken it here, decent work. Kind of charged a lot for what they did, and i found a leak in the job they did. Couldnt get them to take care of it, told me for weeks theyd call back never did. I had to follow-up, great people jus need to be more organized or something.

I recently had my Yukon breakdown while on vacation to Island Park. I live in Northern Utah, and was stressing about how to get it home or how to get it fixed. A friend of mine suggested Empey’s. We dropped it off on a Sunday, and they had it fixed that Tuesday. The communication from Greg was amazing. I run an Automotive shop in Salt Lake City. A family member of mine visited their shop and shortly after had an issue with the same system they worked on. Got a transmission put in. Started having issues. They checked the fluid twice and did a diagnostics. Drove it and confirmed the issues. They told me they would call me back and never did. Went to another mechanic and the other mechanic found Empeys didnt put the seal in for the transmission filter and it was 3 quarts low on fluid. I will never go back and Im disgusted at the poor excuse for customer service. They just wanted my money. They should have stepped up and checked things out, but instead charged me to diagnose the issue and never called to get it resolved. Very poor services and quality of work!

What a great group of people! They were all so helpful and answered all of my questions about my car. They even took me back in the garage to show me where the leak was and give me some tips on the maitemainte for my car. The plastic covers in my wheel wells were loose as well and they used some left over plugs that they had to put them on my car for me. Saving me $20! Greg at the front desk was very straight forward and said they werent the most affordable option, but that they charged how much was necessary to be sure we didnt have to come in more than once for the same issue. The mechanic, Derek, was very knowledgeable and helpful in giving me suggestions and tips to help me get the most miles out of my 1996 Subaru. I would recommend this shop to anyone who is looking for quality work done by good people!

These guys take good care of us! I take all of our family vehicles for routine maintenance and repairs. Great service and I have never felt pressured to get a job done until it was actually needed. They are well worth what they charge. Excellent work and the guys at Empeys are great.

We were on a road trip heading south when we discovered our AC wasnt working. I called from the road and explained the situation and they had us come right in. They checked over the system, vacuumed and recharged, and got us back on the road with a nice cold 36 degree breeze. They quoted us exactly what we paid -- and it was a fair price.They were super fast and helped us out in a pinch. Highly recommend.

Went there to replace a clicking sound under the hood. they said it was an exhaust leak I’m no mechanic so I said let’s do it. Got the truck back and it is still making the noise. They didn’t fix what I went in there for and now I’m out 500 dollars with the same thing happening.

Went to get a quote on my car to get the heater fixed. Tried telling me the resistor was bad. Went to another place and they did a diagnosis on it with me watching. The resistor was totally fine. Empeys just wants your money. I will be telling everybody not to go there.

We had a check engine light come on in our boys car - you know the kind, good cars, but they arent worth much. There were many things that needed to be repair or replaced, but I greatly appreciated their understanding of financial constraints and helped us make the most informed choice on what to do now and what we could wait on. They were great to work with and I appreciated the updates and genuine concern I felt from them. Thanks for a job well done!

Do not go to Empey’s! They pulled apart my Jeep after I told them to call on my warranty first. Then they found out the part was under factory warranty and needed to be replaced by a licensed dealer. They had to put it back together and charged me another hour to do that. They should have never charged me because it was their mistake after I told them to call the warranty service. When I complained about this, they just kept saying they had that much time into it. It was their fault that they did not follow my directions. In the end, I spent $335 on an oil change gone horribly wrong. They also charged me $25 to “steam clean” my engine and there was still oil everywhere. They also added 3000 miles to my odometer in their specs and put the wrong mileage to change my oil as a result of this error.They were unreasonable and rude to me. Customer service is everything, but this company just wants to bleed you dry and take you for as much money as they can whether they have earned it or not. I will never go back and will use an authorized dealer from now on. It would save me hundreds of dollars and tears. I feel cheated and horrible. Please take my advice and go somewhere else.

I went to Clair & Dees Point S Tire in Rexburg to get a diagnostic on my car. They charged me $75 for the diagnostic and then proceeded to tell me it would cost more than $2000 to repair my car. Im a college student and in no way could I afford this. They didnt give me any options as to what could wait and what needed to be fixed immediately. They bundled everything together, handed me the estimate, and asked if they could proceed. Of course I said no and this is when I went to Empeys.First off, their diagnostic report is amazing. They check EVERYTHING and there are pictures included on the report. The report also tells you what is good, what is moderate, and what needs to be fixed immediately. It is super professional and easy to understand, even if you dont know much about cars like myself.Shane sat down with me and cut my original bill from Point S in half with what needed to be done and what wasnt necessary at the moment. He explained everything to me. Some of the things on the Point S diagnostic, he couldnt even understand.Empeys also offers a payment plan through Synchrony that was super helpful for me as a college student. My sister cosigned with me and she was told her credit would not be affected, but it was. Thats the only negative encounter I had with Empeys but it wasnt a big deal. My sister just paid the balance and now Im paying her directly.This business is very people oriented and they actually care about their customers. I would definitely recommend them for your auto care needs. The diagnostic they send you is my favorite!

Not the happiest with work...had a budget...they went over it...diagnost things I already told them was wrong and charged me for it...was already over budget so didnt fix them. A couple simple jobstune carb and timing, on a new engine, fix rear brakes .cost me close to 1600. When I got my vehicle back I opened hood and was missing air filter and housing. Had to go back and get them. Doesnt run much better than when I took it in. Only wanted rear brakes worked on. Replaced all and charged me.. I wont be going back. I still need it worked on...Ill be looking for a new place

It was a little confusing at first because one guy checked us in and then the paperwork was given to another who then left off half the stuff we wanted to have done when he entered it in the computer. The service was great in the end and it was less expensive compared to what was bidder elsewhere. This is our new favorite place! Thank you!

I knocked my truck out of alignment by hitting a rough spot off the side of the road. Empeys fit me in their schedule same day i called and gave my wife and I a ride back home and came and picked me up from work since it was the only truck we had. Scheduled an appointment to have my A/C. Recharged only. Around all places charge 100.00, I went back to Empeys cause they were phenomenal on my Dodge Ram and only charged me 60.00 on my recharge. This time I took in my wifes trailblazer, and the tried quoting me 200.00 for recharge another 100-200 for diagnosis. Long story short, I took it to All things Automotive and for 100.00 the A/C is cold as can be

On a cold snowy morning my Jetta had a moment and decided not to start. I called Empeys on the advice of someone from IF and within 20 minutes Bruce had shown up and not only loaded my ride but had explained what sort of expense i might be looking at for a diagnostic timeline and cost. At the shop both Sean, whod taken my original call and Greg who booked me in were friendly and welcoming, TBH sometimes when you take your broken car to a mechanics its not exactly a customer orientated experience. We were there about 45 mins, everyone was busy but engaged with every customer that walked through the door or called on the phone. I had a complete diagnostic of my car texted to me in a format and non mechanic language i could understand and i never felt anything other than my business and time was respected. First visit ever and i felt as if i had done business there for years. No one likes a surprise auto bill but this company earned every penny from start to finish. In a business of machines and parts they add a lot of human to the process

After seeing the reviews here I gave Empeys a try when my truck died. They wanted almost double what their competition charged me a couple days later. There was a diagnostic charge of $80 which I guess would have been acceptable had it been right. It wasnt. Im not happy and will not go here again.

These guys really know what they are doing. I was in town temporarily and developed a suspension problem. They got together as a team and nailed it. Fixed right the first time. Cost was very reasonable.

First, let me state that I am an auto mechanic and have worked on autos for 40 years. I recently found myself in east idaho visiting from Boise. My shop and tools are in Boise, darn so I had to take a truck to a shop for repairs (I had no tools). Well, took it to empys and I took my own parts because those I could get. A long story short - EMPYs on Sunnyside added everything they could to the bill (multiple bogus charges). They played me - with multiple false charges to jack up the price. YES!! WARNING! I have done this repair a thousand times and this was an easy water pump replacement. I would never do to my customers what they do there. They play people like they are stupid and probably get away with it . WARNING! Stay Away - GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. Dont bother with a reply since it will be a lie.

Definitely impressed when the mechanic came right out and wanted me to drive him around so he could hear the noises for himself before wasting time blindly tearing the car apart like other mechanics have done. And, they quoted fair prices before we got the work done, and that was exactly what we paid after the work was done.

I have a small fleet of pickup trucks for my business and have used quite a few of the shops in town for different repairs. I have only had good experiences working with Empeys and would recommend them highly!

Great place to get you cars and trucks worked on.

We had a problem with a Dodge Durangos electronic throttle control, called around a little bit and decided to take it here. They quoted us $85 to diagnose the problem, which we agreed to. They determined it was damage from a mouse living in the engine, sealed the wires that had been chewed, recommended we put a block of rid x in the engine compartment, and turned us loose for about $185 total. My only concerns were that 100 dollars to seal a wire on top of the 85 diagnosis seemed a little steep and I had call them to get the diagnosis rather than them calling me. That being said, they resolved what might have been a serious problem honestly and didnt try to sell us anything we didnt need which is why they got a four star review. Ill definitely take my vehicles back there if we have other issues.

I know Bruce Empey and he is a fantastic guy with great integrity. One of his passions is cars! If you live in Idaho Falls or Ammon and are in need of vehicle maintenance I would highly recommend Bruce; hell treat you right!

Just spent $53.31 at Empeys Truck and Auto and I am so thankful for thier service. I had an exhaust leak somewhere in the system and took my wifes car to two well known Idaho Falls repair shops. First place quoted $677 for repairs and the second $550 for major exhaust parts, extras, and labor. After a thourough examination, one of the technicians at Empeys found a broken weld at a flex pipe and pipefitting. When the tech came in and said the bad news was a broken weld, it was at this time the manager said how bad and the tech lifted his fingers appart to show him a 2 length. Hows $50 sound?, was what he manager asked me and who am I to complain about saving that much money. Thank you to all of the professional staff at Empeys Truck and Auto. You just saved Christmas and gave our family a great start to the new year!

Honest people who provide high quality repairs. I would go here for almost any repair. And they cleaned my car!

My car worked better coming out than it did going in.

Went to them to get some warranty work done on a part another shop messed up. When they returned my vehicle to me they had punctured the power steering hose and are denying responsibility. Left me with a 450$ repair that they caused the damage.

Worst experience of my life. Horrible customer service. We took it in 3 times and they still didnt fix it. Never going there again. I would recomend nobody ever going there you will be dissapointed and frustrated when you leave.

I went to these guys because i had never heard anything negative about them but i wont be going back. They had my car for 3 months. I had to go over there one day and they were closed in my car was outside with the windows down and everything open. They had me come and test drive my car and told me it was done got in it and everything was still having issues. They told me that they forgot to adjust the parts which tells me they didnt test drive it and are in too much of a hurry. I had my truck theyre being worked on as well and when I got the quote they were charging three times the amount that napa charges on some of the parts. On my truck they were replacing the power steering pump and brake booster and the hoses between and they tried to charge me twice for the hoses being disconnected and reconnected. They dropped the 2nd charge after the mechanic verified i was right. I saved $800 by buying the parts myself and having them put them in and double checking the process to fix my truck. BEWARE.... IF YOU GO THERE ASK FOR THE QUOTE FIRST AND MAKE SURE THEY DONT SCREW YOU ON PARTS AND LABOR. MAKE SURE THEY DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE TO MAKE SURE ITS DONE, they arent in town so most of us drive out of our way to get there.

I have been taking my trucks and cars to Empeys for years. They have done maintenance on our Toyota 4 Runner, VW TDI Passat, Nisson Pathfinder, Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel. Their customer service has always been excellent for me and they definitely stand behind their work. I have recommended their services to several of my friends.

Of the three things we brought our vehicle in for, they managed to only fixe one, and installed the wrong part for the other two.
