This is a safe judgment free place to get counseling. The staff is always nice, helpful and they have a lot of resources for visitors. Ms. Cosart was excellent in helping me address my trauma related issues. I would highly recommend Sheild Bearers for counseling service to all age groups.

I am so disappointed. I sought out to get therapy for the first time. I called and left a voicemail and no one called me back. But I really wanted to get mentally healthier so I continued to call until someone picked up.The person I have been interacting with, Donna, has ruined this process and has made it so difficult to even want to seek help. I truly didn’t like her tone and rudeness from the beginning. I was willing to get past that because it’s not like she is a therapist. So I made an appointment with Donna and she said someone will contact me to do the “in take”.Later on I got the phone call. I explained that I was using an EAP through my insurance. I asked her when that verification number would need to be submitted by. The lady said “before your appointment”.So today, which is before my appointment tomorrow, I called and gave them my verification number around 3:30 pm. Donna calls me at 7:30 to tell me that the 3rd party company cant verify the EAP in time for my appointment so I have to pay.The whole purpose of using an EAP is to find a good fit for a therapist without it being a financial strain.I dealt like this was some scam into making me pay.Donna condemned me saying that it is my fault the verification could not be done in time because I gave them the code the day before. If they need a certain amount of time, they should have given me the proper expectation about when that code should have been submitted.Turns out Donna was the person that did the “in take” and she played it off as if she did explain that a 3rd party would be processing the verification and they would need adequate time. That was news to me today at 7:30.Donna is rude, defensive, impatient, and overall untrustworthy. The worst part of it was that she never apologized. An apology truly goes a long way.At the end of the day, I don’t feel comfortable opening up myself to a place that has someone like Donna as the first point of contact.I guess it should have been a red flag when Donna never called me back in the first place when I left a voicemail. But I’m sure Donna will blame someone else for not calling back as she does so with everything else.Let’s see if the person in charge that she’s pawned me off to will ever call...Truly disappointed...Another thing that made me feel very uncomfortable was during the “in take” they ask you to name a price you would pay if you had to pay for services without insurance. Something along the lines about how they are non profit and allow people without insurance to see a therapist for free? I was confused but they said it’s just a price I have to name for the future. This question made me feel trapped into some scheme.I hope the person in charge cares enough to get in touch with me to at least apologize...UPDATE 5 months later:I LOVE MY THERAPIST! She has helped me so much through a lot of issues in my life. She is kind, insightful and lovely! Renee is awesome and she is a blessing. Now, I would update my review to all 5 stars if it was just Renee. Unfortunately I still have to face Donna every time I go to therapy bc she’s at the front desk. Doesn’t seem like much has been addressed with her. I’ve seen her interact with other clients and she is definitely rude towards me. Never smiles, gives me the side eye, and it almost seems like she takes her time to help me out. There is definitely a vendetta against me. So because of that, unfortunately coming here is a tad uncomfortable. But I still come because Renee is a godsend! Also, I never received an apology from Donna. Which I feel like would have helped but I guess you can’t make someone do something they don’t want to.It’s really a shame that someone like Donna is the face of a wonderful place like Shield Bearer! But for all of you out there - come! Get the help you need! It’s a really wonderful place! I even recommended it to some friends that need help! Just expect that the first point of contact/the face of the center is a really unpleasant sad person. Maybe she should sign up for a session or two 😜

I had the same experience as the post I just read about Donna as far as the rudeness. She called me back and even her voicemail had a condescending tone to it. Is there someone else I can talk to besides her?
