I have had two beautiful suits made by Joe (so far). I originally started working with Joe in 2017 after researching and speaking to a number of other tailors in the NYC area. He is a true artist with great technical ability and attention to detail. He is also a pleasure to work with. My first suit was a demanding project (for him) because I had very specific ideas about how I wanted it to look. I even had the fabric custom woven in England to get it exactly the way I wanted. Joe did an amazing job on the suit and I can say without a doubt that I could not have found a better tailor for the project--which took almost 1.5 years, due to the fabric! I complicated the second suit by asking for a custom silk lining featuring the School of Athens (see picture). Again Joe did an outstanding job on the suit. When I am not wearing the jackets I like to look at them on display because they are pieces of art. There are many folks out there who falsely advertise themselves as bespoke tailors, but Joe is the real deal.
I was looking for a suit that was formal enough for my wedding but versatile enough for other special occasions. Having been frustrated with the fit of suits elsewhere, I was happy when a friend recommended Joe. Im not a suit buff, and this was my first bespoke suit. Joe created a suit that is exceptional in every detail: craftsmanship, style, and fit.Of equal importance to me though, is how he guided me through the whole process. He helped me pick out the fabric for the suit and lining, taking my tastes into account as we navigated many fabric swatches - even finding a musical themed lining that was a perfect color complement to the suit. He brought his own stylistic knowledge to explain and recommend among the many customization options, and I never felt overwhelmed by decision paralysis or afraid that I would choose a combination that wouldnt work.He also was very helpful in describing how the process works, what things to note in the various fittings (and also what things not to worry about that would be tightened up as more work was done). His eye and skill were easily apparent in how quickly he was able to get to a fantastic fit, and we were only making minor tweaks in the later fittings. All in all I am very happy with the suit Joe created and am looking forward to any occasion that lets me wear it.
Joe is a consummate professional and the kind of old-world, details and experience-driven craftsman that is a rarity in an increasingly crowded industry. I made an appointment in early May to be fitted for a new suit I was excited to wear to an event scheduled for early October - yes, there is quite a bit of lead-time to procuring a suit from Genuardi; it is also well worth the wait. I spent about two hours in Joes workshop going through fabrics, linings, discussing details and his experiences. Joe seems to have an incredible knowledge of his suppliers, as well as a keen eye for fitting - both a tradesman and an artist in his profession. After some wavering, I chose a textured blue plaid wool for my new suit, and Joe was genuinely excited to work with the stock to put together something beautiful. After two additional fittings, the suit was ready as promised, in early October. I have worn suits for the better part of my 15 year working life, and had always shied away from total bespoke as a matter of cost. But after wearing my new Genuardi suit twice in the last two weeks, I can attest to the quality and value in the investment. I have never received as many unsolicited compliments in my life - and on all facets of the piece: the fit, the tailoring, the texture and the fall. I have already been in touch and picked out another piece (a blazer/trousers combo for the winter), that Joe is (hopefully!) presently working on.Just an outstanding experience from start to finish.
I went to Genuardi Tailor with the desire for a new coat, an image in my mind of what it would look like, and a complete lack of ability to verbalize what it was I was imagining. Joseph was not only able to help me put words to what I hadn’t been able to describe, but managed to stoke my excitement with every decision we made - from fabric, to lining color, to pocket placement, to collar tab, etc. His process was exact but efficient. Communication was fantastic every step of the way. I’ve been through many rounds of fittings for bespoke garments before - these were the only fittings that were enjoyable events as opposed to the “cost of doing business” when having something custom made. To say that the final product far exceeded my hopes and expectations would be doing it no justice. Joseph created a piece that literally makes me feel proud every time I put it on. He also happens to be one of the nicest, most decent guys around... so there’s that, too!
After years of buying shirts that don’t fit my body correctly and years of dealing with poor alterations from the local dry cleaners, I decided to look around for into a custom made dress shirt. To my surprise Joe Genuardi a MASTER TAILOR was just a few blocks from me! I knew nothing about Joe, his resume or even getting fit for a dress shirt.Joe took the time and walked me through the entire process, he measured me up and then sat me down and went through the fabric selection. After spending the time and showing me all of the detail that goes into this amazing trade he had a customer for life. Having a custom dress shirt and supporting the local business at the same time has a great feeling to it. If you want to look good go see this master tailor.
I was never happy with how my rack-bought shirts and pants fit. I reached out to Joe and ordered two custom-fit shirts. They turned out awesome, and fit great! The cost of the shirts were equivalent to buying good shirts at Nordstrom. Since, I have placed an order for an addition 13 shirts. Thanks Joe!
This guy is amazing. Worth every penny.
