So far so good. I had Tim check out my drivers seat in my Mercedes Benz GL 08 because I have a tear in the leather. Its $360 to fix it. I had to put a $100 deposit. All the staff is super friendly and helpful. So lets see what happens my appointment is for June 21st at 10am. If all goes well then I definitely will come back again in the future!

Ive used AutoMat now 3 times, and the upholstery work Ive had done has always come out great. Tim has always taken the time to walk my project and spell out the details... Recently, I brought back my 1964 Beetle to have the guys at AutoMat put in my front windows, I was lucky and was able to get a date on their schedule - March 24, about 3 weeks after my first call. Now, some work in AutoMat is subbed out to third parties who work under the AutoMat roof, which I dont particularly mind but want to address my complaints appropriately. I dropped my car off and had several calls back and forth with their shop mechanic. He and I actually hit it off, had some good conversations, even commiserated about our sciatica troubles. Mind you, any of my concerns were generally dismissed as dont worry, Ive done this a million times. There was some trouble with the fit of some parts which required trimming - again, making me rather uneasy. We spoke about timing, because the car had been in for 3 weeks at this point to which the response was well, were really busy - I mean, if you finished my car you might not have been so busy? I had to wait 3 weeks to come in, are cars being worked on that came in after mine? Well, after communication started to slow I decided to stop in on April 23. I was a little disappointed with the progress. The windows were in, but the passenger side certainly not operating as it should. The door panels, handles, radio, dash bezel and some trim bits were in various unfinished stages. Come Monday the 26th, I had decided to pull the car out of the shop. I called up and told them I would be by shortly. I picked up my car, and at that time, the door panels were on, the drivers side window did go up and down as it should but the passenger side was tricky, but this is as good as we could get it - I lived with it because the progress was lacking. I paid an additional $700+/- on top of the $1500 deposit I left and drove away. After a few days with the car I noticed other things done wrong, the door checks namely were in wrong, and parts that I had bought and believed to be in the doors, were in the trunk. I sent an email to Tim:Tim, I got the car back today from the mechanic and had a chance to really go around it.I have to say - in a divergence from experience passed - I’m really not happy with the work. The check rods for the doors are installed wrong, the passenger side window doesn’t work without forcing it, there are parts remaining from the door installation kits - namely the retention tracks for the felt channel and the clips for the tracks. Al of which add up to a very concerning attention to detail or potentially lack thereof. This particularly bothers me because as you know, the car was there for a month, and every time I called I was assured that “no no, we know how it goes together, we do these all the time” - yet, something as simple as the check rod is installed wrong. The window is equally concerning because of course to address it, the door needs to come apart again. If parts were needed to address the passenger window, I of course would have bought them - but frankly, in the months time it was there no one called to say “we need XYZ part”I understand these are old cars, but when I am constantly reassured that the guys are confident in the work because they do it all the time, while at the same time given the impression my car is waiting because it’s so busy - really gives me the impression that very little attention was given to my car until I started to push.I haven’t decided if I want to bring the car back yet, because frankly I don’t want to continue racking up charges for work that is leaving me less than happy. If not, we can discuss the refund of some of the charges. I’m open to your thoughts.Be well.Im disappointed, Tim asked for me to bring the car back so they could try to make it right. But I would stress, if you are going to AutoMat, be very specific in what you want, expect, and whoy ou want to work with.

Let me start by stating that had I have known about AutoMat before I started my project I would’ve used them for my entire restoration, not that I’m not satisfied with my shop in NC but AutoMat is local and I’m completely satisfied with the work they did. Wait that’s an understatement I’m super satisfied with the work they did. Tim was so professional, without an appointment he spent hours with me and it seems that he knew what I wanted without me being able to explain it to him. The actual work that was done is phenomenal!!! I will recommend AutoMat to all of my car guy buddies. Please go to there YouTube channel and watch some of their builds, then let them do your project for you. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.

I would like to take this opportunity to let the world know that I’m tickled pink with the outstanding and professional work AutoMat has done on the installation of a manually-operated convertible top for my MR2 sports car.Without hesitation, I am recommending AutoMat to anyone who wants the highest quality of workmanship for their car. I definitely would give AutoMat the maximum stars possible. My new top fits like a glove, it opens and closes with ease, and it has a nice, tight fit when it’s closed. Now, be advised that I am writing this recommendation, not one or two days after, but a few weeks after the work was done. I’m doing this because I wanted to be absolutely sure that I am 100% satisfied with the work done before I go endorsing anyone, and I certainly am - there have been no leaks at all considering the car is not garaged and it has already been through four heavy rainstorms and half a hurricane! The top still opens and closes with the greatest of ease, and it really looks terrific – as if it were installed yesterday.I know for a fact this convertible top installation was not an easy install. I once had it done several years ago by a shop who claimed they were experienced, but they ended up doing a botch job and had my car in their garage for three days when this is really a one day job. That cheap top they installed did not last long, so when I decided to have it replaced because the quality of the top and the installation was poor, I began to search around for another company to install the new top. I was quite surprised to learn that some shops simply turned down the job because it was either too complicated, they were too busy, or maybe they just didn’t know how to do it. Some shops took my name and number and said they would get back to me with an estimate. They never did.It was through a show-biz friend of mine that I learned about AutoMat.I want to mention that every employee I met at AutoMat was very professional, courteous, and helpful in addressing any question or concern that I had. The name of the gentleman I worked with is Tim, and I strongly recommend bringing your car in and speaking with him first to discuss what you would like to have done. It’ll cost you nothing to find out how reasonable first-class quality work can be. Tim listens carefully to what the customer wants, or has to say, and he can offer valuable input or options to your ideas stemming from his years of experience. And when it comes to doing the work on time, my car was ready for pickup when promised. In my case, the same day.Last but not least, there were no add-ons or surprises to the bill. What I ended up paying was exactly what he quoted me at the beginning, nothing more. Now that I have seen and experienced the excellent quality of work AutoMat has to offer, I will no doubt be going back for future projects. AutoMat is now my go-to place for any upholstery or convertible top work.Give them a try, visit the shop, you’ll see what I mean.

Every time I purchase a OLD car, chances are ill be visiting Tim and the team at AUTOMAT, to transform It into a CLASSIC car. What Ive found with most old or restored cars, although they may appear beautiful on the outside, the interiors and stereos where you spend your driving time, has not been brought up to the standard of the exterior, some times because of cost of the restoration, and or lack of availability of the origional materials.my recent purchase was a 1959 MORRIS MINOR, a beautiful car, with a sad interior, and a lack of available interior materials.Tim, from on line photos, matched the materials, and made every soft part of the interior, from the photos, in his shop, including the cushion materials inside the seating. The seating experience has the feeling of a new car.over the years Tim has done the work on the following cars, new and classic for me61 Corvette- seats, carpeting, stereo57 thunderbird- seats, engine detailing, stereo, door cards65 international scout- rubber flooring61 Willys station wagon- glass replacement, headliner69 MGC- stereo2014 porsche 991- dynamat entire interior2012 Roush Mustang- rebuild/reshape seats for comfort66 Mustang-seats, carpeting, stereo59 Morris Minor- seats, door cards, floor matsThanks Tim for all of you good workHarvey

Tim and his team are the BEST!!!!!! We have a 25 year old BMW convertible and the interiors were completely cracked and ruined. We thought there would no hope for our fun little car. I did compare Automat with other companies from the Hamptons to Nassau county. Tim was the most knowledgeable, caring and very fair pricing. They were spot on about how many days to get the leather, mats etc and also spot on how many days to redo the entire car. We are THRILLED and wish we had another car to give them! The car looks brand new!!!!!

So, I used them to re-create boat cushions which turned out nicely, then I gave them my cockpit cover from the boat, they used the old one to create a new one, the velcro tabs dont reach each other and half the snaps dont reach the male counter parts, so I have to use extenders which fall off occasionally, I tried to get them to fix it, but they stopped replying. Now I have a convertible top to fix, but not here! By the way, the old cockpit cover fit just fine, only was old and starting to fray....

But I was hell-bent on a white interior, unavailable from the factory. Tim at Automat not only assured me he could do it, but gave me the encouragement I needed. The finished product is amazing. With the top off, it is the ultimate beach toy.Automat is more than an “interior” company.....it’s a confidence company!!!!

Sal and Darren were excellent in their craftsmanship. When I first saw the finished project, it blew my mind, I was speechless. The You Tube video “Street Rod Pick Up” tells the story. The gentleman with the BMW Z4 was graciously toured through our facility, and all the information on his requirements were recorded. Unfortunately, after researching the costs of parts needed for the repair his quote was accidentally filed with paperwork for another customer. A few weeks later we found his paperwork and apologized for the mishap -but it was too late. When you are in business in the automotive industry for 63 years, theres simply not much more that you need to know as a consumer. Automat is a reputable, family-owned company that prides itself on accurately meeting the varied needs of people seeking to individualize or restore their cars. THAT is a tall order on its own merit. To have done this successfully for so many years is reason enough for me to be a very satisfied customer for the past 35 years. Most recently, needing a set of custom-made, embroidered mats for my Turbo Espirt, Automat absolutely nailed it. I could not be happier with the finished product. I met Tim (Owner) who was welcoming at first and greeted me with a smile. We spoke very briefly about how he will make the seat more comfortable and then said it was $200. When the seat was done it was more uncomfortable than before. After getting into a heated argument sparked by Tims unnatural way of handling a customers simple statement that I am not happy with the result and craftsmanship, may you please fix it, he stated I added foam on top of the existing material if you dont like it go buy another seat I had told him that this was not what we agreed upon, please either do what we agreed upon or return my money. He insisted this was what I wanted and refused to fix it and after insulting my grandfather and I walked away with no urge to satisfy his customer. This is not a real way to run a business.
