I love the services and friendliness of the staff. They are always eager to help, and if I have to leave a message their return call time is super fast. My therapist is friendly, and always have time to see me between appointments if I need to. I would recommend this office.

Jim Loomis is the best. In my experience, many counselors want to give too much input or too little insight. He has a way of asking insightful questions that lead to many self-realizations and real, authentic, growth.

I went for psychological testing and I have no complaints. The process was very thorough, a lot more thorough than I expected. My results came back very detailed and I was able to get the help I needed. The technicians and doctors are very nice and welcoming.

I just started online sessions with one of the Genesis Therapist. After they got to know more about me, we were able to start collaborating and come up with a few goals for me to focus on. Having someone to objectively listen and help me process my inner thoughts and remind myself to respond to my needs with the same kindness & care that I give to those that I work with is beneficial for my daily success, my self-care and will help me reach my personal goals.

Excellent, although its rough to get appointment times and assessments, but was worth the wait in the end. Elder child came here for I.Q. testing to qualify for William & Mary SEP program and did kids club for some anger issues. Middle child has ADHD and went to Genesis for initial evaluation after the public schools stopped doing assessment due to COVID. We finally had a full and complete session and he was paired with a therapist virtually.Our son has been seeing Mr. Park bi-weekly and really enjoys his sessions with him. Mr. Park also delivers some hard truths to us the parents as well (which I appreciate) and stating how some of what we do helps or doesnt help our sons ADHD issues. In the last 6 months Ive seen improvements with my son and have put many tips and suggestions to use in working with my son. Well see how things fair when school starts up this fall again.Recommend Genesis Counseling, they are usually full up and busy, I want to say we waited 6 months for both kids before something opened up, but once you are in, you are in.

I am in the process of having an evaluation done with genesis counseling. Dr. Lassiter was phenomenal, even though in my conference call it was hard to hear me and my constant distractions, she was judgement free and gave good vibes the whole time. The two testing appts have been great as well with the other staff and front desk. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Worst experience of my life, i attended two different locations twice in my life. both of which were awful, i had no notice for payments and was sent to a debt collectors months later with no phone calls, bills in mail, nothing at all. unprofessional environment and to be honest the whole christian thing is pushed onto you.

They seem to seriously struggle with the billing department. My therapist Michelle has always been great but sadly nothing else is in order. Extremely disappointing and would not recommend the hassle or lack of accountability

This place is very unprofessional. We havent even been able to have a counseling session yet because they cannot get it together. I initially called and set up a counseling session for my husband and I. I was told that they didnt accept my insurance but did accept my husbands, and that it was fine because they only need one. I got an email asking me questions about only my mental and physical health history. Which I thought strange for a marriage counseling session. I get a call two days before our appointment saying that they cant verify the insurance. I give them the insurance information again and never heard back so I assumed everything was fine. I get another call the day before our scheduled appointment, they cant verify insurance. So I asked if something was wrong because I got this same call the day before. They were trying to run insurance through a totally different provider than what I am informed them he had. Then she proceeds to ask for my insurance information and informs me that they do not accept my insurance. I told her that I was told that it was not necessary that we could just run my husbands. She tells me that information I was given was incorrect and asks if we were doing individually counseling. I said no, we are doing marital counseling, which I informed the lady who originally took our information. So, we get that straightened out, then she proceeds to tell me that because of HIPPA, I cannot make an appointment for husband and I under his insurance... I can make a doctor or dentist appointment for my husband but I cant schedule a counseling appointment... I CAN LITERALLY SCHEDULE FOR MY HUSBAND TO GET HIS BALLS SNIPPED BUT I CANT SCHEDULE FOR US TO SEE A THERAPIST. So anyways, my husband calls and gives them his information and reschedules our appointment. HERE WE ARE AGAIN, THE DAY OF OUR APPOINTMENT, and theyre calling him again because they cannot verify his insurance. Hampton called and they got it straightened out, and then Yorktown called and said they couldnt verify... our counselor isnt even with Yorktown so I dont know why they are even calling. It appears that no one at this location knows what theyre doing. I would not recommend Genesis Counseling, not this location at least. I had a friend who went to the Yorktown location and liked it, but you cant get in there. Theres a waiting list. Worst experience at a counseling center Ive ever had. We will be going elsewhere.

I do not recommend this place at all. The front desk service is terrible and I would wait in a waiting room for my counselor and she would never show. This place is inconsistent and not something you need from a mental health professional.

Since I have come in contact with Melonie who work at the Chesapeake location, she has gone above and beyond. She is very clear and communicates in an organized manner, documents our conversations on your office system- to eliminate any confusion if I am to speak with another staff members, she remembers when we have spoke, even if weeks ago- before referring to her notes, goes to her notes to check her memory of the conversation, always follows through, double checks that we are on the same page and recaps before the end of our phone call. If she does not know how to accomplish something asked of her, she finds out how, double checks if it was correct and what I was requesting.Her integrity is outstanding and she helps above and beyond, keeping the situation calm and relaxed, doing more than I believe is expected of her.Thank you for having Melonie work at your office! She makes each interaction amazing!

Several years ago I had an appointment. My appointment was canceled with no explanation. I was not given an opportunity to reschedule. I found it very odd as I had several appointments prior to the cancellation. I was never contacted to reschedule. When I attempted to reschedule there were no appointments available at least that is what I was told. When your clients seek mental health care and the organization cancels I think it should be imperative that they contact patients to ensure they are ok and provide an explanation so they can seek services elsewhere.

Genesis has been very helpful, warm and welcoming. Which is why I am a little shocked at some of these reviews. I love being able to always walk out of there with a smile on my face. The employees are excellent and very consistent. I would recommend Genesis to everyone!!!

I dont understand all the bad reviews for this company, I know several children who have been getting counseling at this office, every single parent and child is happy with them and told me how grateful they are for all of the staff and counselors. Those reviews seem to target and try to damage this companys great work, I cant imagine the number of patients theyve helped all these years agreeing with what those reviews say about the company. Because of the nature of business, most people who get counseling from places like this will not leave any reviews who are happy with them, that could be thousands, this seems hardly unfair. As a business owner, I feel bad for this company. I hope that people who are reading the reviews understand that this company helps a lot of people and most of them are happy with the care but are not leaving the review.

Disrespectful staff. I saw one of the testing evaluators and was hoping they’d be able to help me since my NP recommended this place. After my first appointment, immediately as I walked into the main office area from the back rooms, the evaluator and front desk girls started laughing. Bad timing? Or are patients ridiculed behind their backs? Either way, it was inappropriate and there was no consideration into me overhearing them. Guilty faces as I walked up to schedule those future appointments, I was so hurt, I didn’t want to associate with these people anymore, never came back, humiliating and rude. Whole department needs to check their privileges, because you don’t truly know what these patients are going through, they are finally seeking help, and you laugh at them? This encounter reeked of unprofessionalism. Maybe the other locations are better, but at the Hampton location, they DON’T care.

No option for NO STAR. I wish I had read these reviews before I went. The Licensed staff are so unaware, lack empathy and misdiagnose you. What is going on in this office. They need to hire a whole new staff. My opinion, If you care about your loved one, skip this place.

By far the worst office to try to get ahold of someone. First off, the voice recording states “We are currently closed. Our office hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 9am-5pm”. I’m calling on a Wednesday at noon?! But wait! It gets better! The voice recording then states to press two to get ahold of someone regarding prescriptions. I press two and it goes to Voicemail!!!! Days later, when someone finally calls back, the receptionist has absolutely no professionalism at all!!!! Worst experience I’ve ever had with an office.My therapist is amazing!!! However she works at a different genesis location. This office is terrible!!! I wish I could get what I need from a different location!

Waited months for an appointment after giving them details of what the appointment was for it caused me problems with court because I hadnt been seen yet finally get my appointment and then I am told that the person they scheduled me with is not qualified after the people scheduling were given full details as to what the appointment was needed for and now Im being forced to wait more months and it will still mess me up with court all over again horrible communication

There was a misunderstanding about a missed appointment and it was more important for them to receive the 50.00 missed appointment fee than to keep us as clients. I paid the 50.00 and found a new place to take my daughter. My daughter loves her new therapist.

I took my son to therapy at your Hampton office on Tuesday afternoon which is when his therapist informed us he is moving to a practice in Norfolk. He said that my son would be assigned to another counselor. I called the Hampton office today to follow up on next week and was informed that all of my sons appointments have been cancelled. So because his therapist is leaving he gets dropped like a bad habit, no phone call, no nothing. If I had not called I would have showed up next week for my sons appointment and there would be no one to meet with him. Not to mention the fact that I was directed to this particular therapist from the Yorktown office because he was new to the practice and accepting new patients (so the therapist was only there for a few months working with kids.....)

The Staff here is **AMAZING**!! I would HIGHLY recommend their excellent services.!!

Would give zero stars if I could, went in for the first time being a young adult seeking help and understanding, got completely shut down, and degraded by the counselor named Michelle, I left completely in tears after being antagonized for seeking help with my anxiety and depression, she said “ I seem to relaxed”, the lack of professionalism from the associates here has caused me a great deal of stress as someone dealing with anxiety, I will never return, and will tell every friend, family and other professionals to never.... and I mean never work with this company.

My daughter just told me that she was given a history lesson on New Years Eve and why Christmas is a pagan holiday. She was feeling depressed because she was told that we were going to hell. Someone is going to get an earful from me when the office reopens.

Staff here is NOT helpful. We attempted to have a group session to discuss grieving with a counselor and nice our children have never experienced a loss. We showed up for an appointment and no room was available for a group plus the counselor was not notified. Wh n scheduling our appointment I purposely scheduled and waited for a group session. The staff did NOT provide that service. When leaving and attempting to schedule a group session the staff was NOT helpful and wanted to push of counseling session out another month. I suggest going somewhere else. I would also suggest our counselor find a new place to practice or start her own business.

If I could give zero stars, i would. My son saw Jerry Parks. I went to the first visit but felt my son (14 years old) should go by himself so he could open up more. Well Mr Parks diagnosed my son. Told my son of his diagnosis and never told me. 3 days later my son is being super defiant. Well he said it was due to ODD. The diagnosis Mr.Parks gave him. I feel the way this was handled was totally unethical.

Myself, child, and niece received excellent services through them. The counselors and staff are wonderful, compassionate, respectful, and treat everyone they come in contact with decency. Would recommend. Ive only dealt with Williamsburg area office but heard there quality of care is 5 stars no matter which location you go to.

My husband went for psychological evaluation. We paid out of pocket up front. They demanded to be paid in full before services rendered and thats fair. Then six months later they sent us a bill for several hundred more dollars because the payment in full up front was just an estimate. This is a horrible way to do business. Im extremely disappointed to put it mildly.

I guess they definitely deleted my post i dont see it. Its something up with this place. I will be there monday to write grievances on a couple staff members and to put a block on my records.. with your unpleasant, unprofessional business

The woman I worked with was very unhelpful. Instead of working with me she always implied someone needed her better than me and to just stop coming.

Its ALL about the money...I had one (1) visit and it generated three (3) Bills.They had me take a test on the computer to judge my competency for a surgery....They relied on a COMPUTER to psychoanalyze me..Then charge me to take it...Then charged me to read the results..And then the charge to see the Counselor...What a scam....

0 stars if I could. This review is based solely on the interaction I had with the women who answered to set an appointment. Dont remember the exact day of the first call, however the young woman who answered the phone was nice enough to begin with... once I mentioned I would be utilizing my EAP benefit I was put on hold for about 5 mins. After which, I was told our clinicians are no longer accepting new patients...ok fine. In the 6 weeks its been since I first called Ive been seeking counseling elsewhere Ive found no one who accepts the EAP benefit and wants or has time to help. Today I called back and didnt mention EAP at all, however the woman who answered the phone Chestneymade it clear I would not and could not be accepted as no one there is taking new clients but then again it depends on what type of insurance I have Are u freaking kidding me?! It should NOT be this hard for someone seeking help for mental health issues to receive it.

Not professional at all. Have had more than one occurance of them cancelling appointments for no reason and not even calling!! Takes forever to get appointments too!

I was late by 10 minutes. The receptionist was on the phone for five minutes. When she checked me in I was 15 minutes late and my counselor wouldnt see me. So freaking mad right now.

My sons pediatrician recommended this center as I wanted his behavior to be thoroughly evaluated. As he was diagnosed with ADHD, I wanted my son to receive non-pharmacological treatment through psychotherapy services rather than proceed with the pharmacological route. My child initially had to be placed on a waitlist due to restrictions that came with the pandemic; however, Genesis Counseling Center quickly was able to hire on another psychologist and be flexible to accommodate my childs needs. He is enrolled in individual play therapy and group therapy Kids Club. The main psychologist assigned to his case has been very patient with my son and the severity of his ADHD, and has taught him tactics to use to overcome some of the impulsive behaviors that come along with the mental illness. As he is only 5 yo at this time he still needs consistent attention to this to ingrain appropriate tools to improve quality of his life. Overall, I am impressed with the progress he has made while being treated at Genesis Counseling Center.

I’ve gone through testing for my child for months.They finally give her a diagnosis and recommendations to assist but they have NOTHING available to assist.I wasted mine and my child’s time by even coming here.I do not recommend they cannot assist you and they don’t have anything available.Thanks for absolutely nothing!!!
