These guys are awesome they worked on my GTO, 99 Corvette and 91 Corvette ZR1. The quality of the work is second to none. I showed with no appointment. About to take my ZR1 racing on a trailer. They had my exhaust fixed with in a short time I was back on the road to the track. Top Notch service! I live in Palatine it’s worth the drive!!

Been having my cars serviced at JRs for a couple of years now. The reason I keep going back is 3 fold listed by priority: 1) I trust them, 2) the work they have done for me has always worked, and 3) they are unreasonably priced.

Jose and his crew are great people and easy to work with. I only take my cars there for exhaust work, but they can do just about anything. I recommend them all the time for quality and quick work on any car.

I had a $60 synthetic oil change change done and they forgot to put the dipstick in all they way in the engine. I took a long road trip and stopped to get dinner and once I got off the van I started to smell burnt oil. Oil got sprayed all over the engine. So I had to go to a mechanic to make sure nothing was damaged and get another oil change to make sure it was done correctly. Not the way I wanted to spend my first day of my vacation.

Was needing a muffler and exhaust replacement for my 2002 Subaru Forester. This place was recommended to me by ripley automotive. I really appreciated the recommendation. Was able to get an assessment and replacement all within a couple hours. Car sounds so much better now lol. They only recommended what I needed too. I asked about oil changes as an “oh by the way” and they do that too, so I went ahead and threw that in as well. Speedy, affordable, trustworthy, and good service is all I can imagine you would want in an auto shop. Would definitely recommend them for all your exhaust needs.

These guys are amazing!!!I went there because of a friends recommendation whom I complained about the bad experience I had with a reputable company. They said my problem could not be solved.So, I went to J.R Muffler and Brakes and 20 minutes later I left with my problem solved and a 25 $ bill against the 500$ the reputable company wanted to charge me for buying everything new...!!!

Very professional and honest

Very small shop, but clean, and well kept. Seemed to be owned by one guy. He had about three mechanics on the site when I was there and he drove my car into the garage and examined it himself! His name was Jose, therefore I assume J.R. are his initials.I prefer smaller shops like these, not corporate as they tend to be more personal and inviting.Upon walking in, I saw many certifications of completion of various mechanic classes all over the walls which was very reassuring. My car had an exhaust issue which they do not charge to diagnose (nice bonus), they quickly found the problem and replaced a section of the pipe and repaired a connection site. They only charged me $50, which I found VERY reasonable!My car has never started up quieter! And I also gained back some power in my gas pedal. Jose and his staff were very friendly and polite. Would most definitely go back again!! But hopefully will not have to.

Went there based on the referral of another shop since they specialize in exhaust problems. Went in to get my car checked out and an estimate. Jose was extremely nice and got my car in same day. They actually showed me what needed to be fixed and gave me a fair estimate. And showed me the repairs BEFORE charging me to make sure I was happy with the work. Which is more than I can say for many other shops. I really appreciated this as I felt comfortable and that I wasnt being taken advantage of. The place seems a little hectic at times because they where busy and constantly back and forth before between the front counter and garage area. But I would definitely go back there for more work and it was well worth it. My car runs great now!!!

They were able to get my car in fairly quickly, and each time it done within an hour.Reasonable labor rates and great service.

Took there time to make sure the custom dual exhaust for my firebird was built right .They quadruple checked their work, exhaust bend angles and even the tips to make sure they were even and straight. Ive been to many muffler shops in Chicago and had I known about this place along time ago, I wouldve drove all the way here .

Do not trust them with your vehicle. Went for an oil change that they gave me for free, which I found strange. Asked them to check out a seal because a funny smell was coming from the engine. They told me the seal needs glue but not for another month or two. It was close to closing and they said they wont be able to do it. Since I got there they were drinking modelo beer the entire time. Turns out they stripped THREE bolts on my engine cover. Oil was leaking everywhere and serious damage couldve been done to my car if I drove it for the two months they claimed I could have. Horrible business. Never going again. My engine couldve caught fire.

These guys wanted to make me pay $250 for brakes and an oil change, dont go there unless you want your eyes ripped out of their sockets

$10 for an oil change if you bring in the oil and filter you want used. It is a great way to avoid the large mark up from quick-lube places if you want synthetic oil.They will also install parts you bring in - spark plugs and a PCV valve in my case.They gave me a fair quote and stuck to it even though it took extra effort to get the job done (replacing the PCV valve on a Prius took a bit more effort than a standard Toyota engine).The waiting area is very clean. There is free coffee for customers, a small play set for kids and a TV showing local news. This is a place you would feel comfortable sending your wife or mom unlike some independently owned shops which can be pretty dingy. The owner is there working on cars and will address any issues you might have.I will definitely be back!
