Great barbers here. Moved to GR in January of 2020, and was worried I may not find a barber shop on par with the places in my old city. Tried several other barbers before going to Avenue. Have not been anywhere else since, and wont let anyone cut my hair besides Alex. Hes a pro, and a really nice dude.

Had my first ever professional beard trim. My beard has looked bushy and unkempt for a long time. I was a little nervous as I didnt know what to expect. Alex did an amazing job. He helped me understand how to keep my beard looking good and was super friendly and kind. I will be back.

I feel hair cuts are all about potential there is no reason ( in my mind ) that i should get a professional job done . I dont believe it has anything to do with the $25. I watch a lot of tv news and i look at those haircuts they take no more time or effort but a whole lot of money. THE 30 MINUTE TIME LIMIT RULE has to go man my stylist felt rushed. If i have to pay more fore a better cut i will.

I moved to GR just a bit before Avenue Barber Shop opened, and tried a few other shops before going there, and I havent gone anywhere else since! Everything is very straightforward and efficient, but I never feel like they are rushing. It was just Chris when I started going there, and it has been awesome to see the new barbers set up shop and get to know them too. I could get a great haircut from any of them. Everyone is super nice and personable, and it feels just like a cool barber shop from a movie or something. I cant recommend this place enough for anyone looking for a barber shop.

I used to get my hair cut at the smaller chains like Fantastic Sams and Judes. I dont think Ill be doing that again! Avenue is great! The most gentle AND detailed haircut Ive ever had.

Absolutely awesome first trip with Alex as my barber. I had been looking for a barber for a while and Alex is going to be my guy. I didnt give him tons of direction but he really cleaned me up well. Hes awesome with a straight razor and handled the COVID stuff in a great way. Well worth the trip.

I love this place its so neat, its just like an older style barber shop. The owner Chris, and his side kicks do a great job! I went on a Saturday and it was real busy but worth the wait. These guys take cutting hair seriously. Their attention to detail is amazing and everyone in the shop was really friendly. Will definitely be going back in the future. Be sure to bring coins for parking.

I went spur of the moment.I was able to get in right awaywithout appointment anyways was greaded sat down told baber what I wanted. He said ok no problem. 1/2 hour later, I was to see what this baber had done. Needless to say I will never return. I hope the business nothing but great business in the future. But please test your dither l future baber. To see if they can do what they say. I really wasnt to happy spending almost 30 bucks on a hack job, that I had to come home and finish my self.

Was very disappointed in my haircut. I don’t have a high standard either, I had to get it corrected a week later at another barber. I’m not going into specifics but my barber was clearly inexperienced. The conversation was good but I came here for a decent hair cut.

First visit on a busy Saturday, and Im a little embarrassed to admit I didnt write my name on the board while waiting for service. Fortunately Chris noticed and got me on the board. The wait was well worth it. I noticed how much detail work and attention was given to each guest. When it was time for my cut Chris didnt disappoint. I walked out with the cleanest haircut Ive gotten in years, and well worth the wait.

Ive gone here the last year and a half while I have been in college. Im from northern Michigan and I drive the three hours just for these guys to give me a good, affordable cut. Best spot in GR.

These guys are the best barbers in town, and I have tried a TON in the grand rapids area over the years. Been going to Avenue since they opened in 2017 and Chris and Josh are absolutely the best! They can do any kind of cut you want and always do a great job. Super friendly and welcoming. Pro tip: get there early (10:50am) if you want to beat the wait.

When do you gentlemen foresee yourselves opening? I’m looking like grizzly Adams and decided against cutting my own hair. I should be set for the sickest mullet by then. If it weren’t for that bitc* carol baskins I’d be fine right now. I know she had something to do with this.

Josh was amazing! The attention to detail on my husbands cut and razor shave was superb. My husband has course natural curly hair and he handled it with ease and made him feel comfortable. Josh and Chris were also really nice to me, as I was there waiting for my husband. Great service and expertise. They made a new loyal customer for sure.

Great place, really nice guys that know how to make you look good...no bells and whistles just good old barber shop. They take card, if you dont have cash on you. The wait can be long, but you can put your name on the chalk board and head out, and come back later.

If you are looking for an authentic barber shop experience in Grand Rapids, this is the place for you. Chris and Josh are both very knowledgeable, friendly, and experienced barbers. You can walk in, but unless you have time to hang out for a bit I would recommend booking ahead on their website. They always do a great job, I have never been disappointed by their work. I recommend this place to all of my friends and co-workers and they all love it, too. Prices are great, too. I used to pay more at a salon, but now I come here, pay less, and look better. Definitely stop in and try them out!

Some of the best cuts I’ve ever had were here with Chris! All of the guys make you feel welcome when you come in, and get to know you when you’re in the chair. Wait times can be really long (expected for a small shop with a few barbers), so booking an appointment online is a good way to get in on schedule.

I’m a trans guy. I came in today for a haircut. I’ve had bad experiences with barbers and salons in the past that wouldn’t listen to what I wanted. I was treated like any other guy there. I was given a proper trim and not a pixie cut. Staff was super friendly and the prices are great. A bit of a wait, but that is expected on a Saturday afternoon. And I love the vintage vibe of the shop.

Chris did an amazing job!! Best authentic shave in town. Also did a trim on my beard for $23. Best price in town for a shave as well when other places will charge you $30 plus. Awesome, personable guy. Some places treat you like a number, but he takes his time, really gets to know you and talk to you, and always does a fantastic job. From the hand painted sign on the glass when you walk in, to the carefully curated furniture and edgy magazines, he nailed every detail when creating the look and feel of a comfortable, yet modern barber shop. My search is over and I think I have finally satisfied that manly inner desire to have a barber one could become long-term friends with.

We are friends of Chris and his family from church, so I made a point to visit Avenue on their opening day. Theyve done a great job renovating the venue, and most importantly the haircut was great too! Weve been especially impressed with Chriss wide-ranging skills: not only ranging from bikers to business people, Chris also has worked wonderfully with our six year-old son. No TV, toys, or gimmicks necessary. Highly recommended.

Chris was absolutely amazing. Unlike other barbers, he actually listens to what you want and captures your image/vision. He takes his time and spends time to get to know you as well. He fixed me hair from a previous horrible haircut I got somewhere else and gave me probably one of the best fades I’ve had in years (and I have Asian hair which is not easy to cut). Would definitely recommend! He is clearly a hard worker and has a passion for what he does. The shop itself was very clean and has an awesome vibe to it. One of the best in GR! Will be back!

Real Talk: Ive been looking for this kind of expertise from Holland,Kalamazoo and GR. Finally found it!!! You tell them or show them what you want and voila. Everything is on point. This is not a burn and turn barbershop. Each person is a canvas and theyre artists. Patiently wait your turn. My first go was a 2 hour wait and I will never regret it. These dudes are good... However, I found it helpful to ask them when their slow times were to thin the crowd out for them and looking attractive faster. ; )

Avenue Barber just lost a very good potential customer! My husband and I went to Avenue Barber to get a flat top cut for my husband since Avenue is supposedly one of the best at flat tops-We went on a Saturday and knew they would be opened until 4:00pm since that is what they advertise on their website and on the door of their shop. We got to the shop at 3:50(I know that is pushing it but we are new to the area and had to find it and then had to find a place to park). So when we got to the shop I saw a person in one of the chairs getting a cut. My husband went to open the door but it was locked. I knocked on the door and the guy who came to the door said they were closed-I replied by saying It shows on your door and your website that you are opened until 4:00 He then replied that they were closing early. Well Im sorry but if you advertise that you are opened until a certain time and a customer shows up in that time frame then I fill that the customer should be taken care of.I fill they showed very bad manners and taste by turning us away-not to mention they lost a good customer. And we will not refer them out if anyone asks about a good barber!!! THUMBS DOWN FOR AVENUE BARBER!!!!!
