Warning: Do not become members in this facility. The children’s pool is so disgusting. Today was our first day as members and I have already canceled our family membership. *Dirty pool with dirt and wig hair floating around. *The water slide stairs are deteriorated and falling apart. *If a child gets cut, a tetanus shot will be needed afterwards. Even if this facility was free to attend, I will NOT visit it even if it was for free let alone pay a family membership of $78 on a monthly basis. Very worrisome, disgusting and disappointing.
I do not normally come to this gym but decided to go because my gym was currently closed I paid the $10 to get in and in mid work out get told I need to cover up( I was wearing a sports bra with high waisted workout leggings) I understand some gyms have dress code but if you are checking me in taking my money you see how I’m dressed if it’s an issue say something before I pay to get in or have a sign at the front desk this way people don’t waste their money to get in just to get told they need to cover up. Will not be returning.
Bathrooms in disrepair, no covid 19 precautions, avoid.
Front desk lady in the morning has the worst attitude ever she rolls her eyes when we ask her questions and always has an attitude.
On the positive side it is clean. They are currently open only 6 days/ week and close very early. Their policies are crazy old fashioned and their dress code body shames women. Find a place with less backwards thinking.
Lady at front desk pretty rude and doesn’t seem to know much about business
** UPDATE** I have since spoken to the manager and received nothing more than a “that was our bad.” No offer of refunding even though our party time WAS cut short due to THEIR error.I booked my kids’ birthday party two months in advance AND emailed a week prior to confirm my date and time (12-2), which I was told was good to go. Yet when I arrived to begin setting up they tell me that they had scheduled a Cookies With Santa running into my event time set up time (you are supposed to be given 30 minutes to set up) but that “they should be out by 15 minutes prior to the party”. They weren’t. At noon I was literally setting up around them still removing their event decorations while my guests were already arriving. They still left crumbs on the tables and floors but I was so busy trying to just get our party set up that I didn’t even bother mentioning it. They claimed they were going to “extend my party time” since they messed up, but I still had my stuff out by the time I was supposed to and it’s a good thing since another party was walking in to set up. I cannot imagine the level of irresponsibility that went into this entire ordeal. They could have planned their event at a different time, they could have called as soon as they realized the scheduling conflict, they could have told me when I emailed to confirm, but none of that happened. They also clearly didn’t call the person with the party after mine to let them know that they may be pushing their party back as well. Luckily, I wasn’t willing to disrupt someone else’s party because I recognize that when you send out invitations with a specific time and date, you can’t just change that 10 minutes before the party. Overall, I would not EVER recommend booking your party here. I still haven’t even received an email back regarding how completely unacceptable this was. I plan on cancelling our membership entirely over this.
This was an absolute blast. Our 4 year old loved swimming here. The pool is fantastic. My wife and I really enjoyed the facilities and watching our son enjoy his experience at this place. Wish all YMCA were like this one. It is a true gem. Staff was also very helpful and polite. Thank you all!
Best gym in the Gainesville area in my opinion. Decent equipment, pool, sauna, courts, childcare, classes and great staff. Super decent rate as well. Only critique would be that theres enough people going there now to warrant adding/updating equipment.
I dont recommend this place, one old blonde lady is so annoying at me at all time she is so bossy! I just wondering why she act like that only on me. and it makes me feel reluctant to use equipment around the gym. Well lady you think you can and act like one! But I’ve known to use equipment at the gym since 2010 before i know ymca! She harass me not only one or two times it’s been fourth times including yesterday since first joined at 2016, and now we decided to re join again because of we need a child watch For my son while we doing exercise coz schools not start yet. I thought she’s gonna be different, but even worse! Everyone else is fine but that lady! So one star is big enough
Lots to do like lift, cardio, swim, outdoor fields. But the basketball floors are very dusty. They have child watch for family memberships. Most of the staff is nice and helpful
Quality of life is so inspiring. The YMCA has programs that support a healthy life and also helps to build character in our future generation. Ive attended the senior aquatic exercise swim program. It not only helps keep body and mind healthy it provides a social network that brings lots of laughter and fun conversation.
Signed my daughter up for after school after Christmas. On Presidents Day there was a mix up and her school put down that childcare was not needed for that day. The extremely rude blonde at the table Youre not on the list. What school. It says you dont need child care. Is that not your signature I ended up having to take my daughter to work with me. I withdrew her from the program the very next day. Take your money elsewhere for childcare.
Price is outrageous!! Disabled military vet, military instillations are free, but there is t one close enough to use. Other gyms are about $10/month. Only really interested in pool use to better health and weight loss after accident. Very disappointed with the staff and their lack of empathy, and the price gouging of the Y. Would not recommend to anyone. $60/month is extortion, when it’s supposed to be a community entity. Will be filing a complaint with the BBB, Chamber of commerce and zoning board. And anyone else I can think of to bring attention to this.
My daughter goes to summer camp here and the camp and staff are the BEST! she always comes home with great stories and they go to some really cool places on their weekly field trips. the facility is also very clean and is a very safe environment. happy to have found a great place like this for my daughter to spend some of her summer at.
My husband and I joined this YMCA last Friday. Im so impressed with the friendliness and knowledge of the staff. We attended orientation with Dave O, and he introduced us to all of the machines in the fitness center, as well as told us about all the programs and classes available, and also made suggestions on which classes would be appropriate for us as beginners. The fitness center is impressive, and I love the pool and hot tub. We have upcoming appointments with wellness staff to get us started on a personalized exercise program. We have joined gyms in the past, and attended for a few weeks and then gave up because there was only a fitness center or free weights and we got bored. Then we were left with paying every month for the rest of our contract for something we didnt use. This wont happen at the Y. There are so many different things to do, and we can both join for less than what one of us could join a gym. The price is very reasonable for what is offered, and we can go as often as we want for as long as we want. Its a really nice place just to hang out too.
Really love this place. Best place to bring family together and the environment is great for children to grow up in. This place provides so many opportunities to help grow as a person and as a family.
I used to work out here for about 8 months. Theres just a lot of problems here for example, the aquatics director started yelling at my friend and I for picking up a peice of swimming equipment that we had never seen before. We were trying to figure out how to put it on, we were then informed to stop playing with it because we werent allowed to use it when I asked why she snapped at me saying its for older people who cant swim properly. What didnt make sense was they just had the equipment lying around without any signs saying anything like not to touch it at all, so how were we supposed to know not to use equipment from a gym we pay for. She continues to stare at us while we were trying to swim, when I asked her what her name was she got so mad and told me her name was Lindsey the aquatics director, when I asked her why she was so mad she started saying that I was miss using the equipment and making fun of her when she started harrssing me in the first place.
They are making a great effort to give users a good experience. Seems to me somehow the number of attendees is decreasing, although the services still there. I really miss the old machines connected to Internet so you could monitor your progress. And kudos for the locker/showers facelift. Always friendly smiling faces which makes a big difference after a long working day when one is dragging his/her body for a great workout. My only big concern is the limited hours specially the weekends but Hey, this is the Y.
Went for a party. Definitely enjoyed it. The pool area was a good size. Had a water slide and hot tub too. Plus the fitness area looked really good too. The staff was very friendly. Felt really comfortable. People of all sizes working out. Laid back. Seems like a good place for a membership.
Clean place. Something for everyone in the family lifegaurd present fir pool
My first time going here yesterday and I was going to take a picture of my daughter swimming in the pool, the manager is VERY VERY RUDE!!!! She came out yelling at me that I cant take a picture of my child.I didnt see ANY signs posted saying this nor the paper sent home from the school saying this. Thats fine if its a rule but you dont talk to people like that!! I almost forgot where I was at!!!!
I Love this YMCA, The staff is great and always seems to have answers for any problems. I recommend this place Y has something for everyone. As well they or rebuilding the men’s shower and Locker room . Great job to all.
The employees are caring and engaging. The facility is also very spacious and well maintained.
Love this place. Really could use to fix the pool table and maybe his and hers sauna times but overall love this place. Some equipment needs minor repairs
Our family enjoys the friendly staff, particularly in the childrens area here. As a Mama I love all the windows and natural light in the kids area as well as the whole fitness center offers which is in contrast to many other fitness centers in the area. My daughter loves the bounce houses in the gym area and the indoor water slide at the pool. Both are excellent indoor options particularly in the winter months when outdoor activities are limited. One negative: Bringing a guest is $10/person per visit. I wish the cost was a little more affordable at least a discount for child guest on weekdays. It would be a fun place to bring a friend to join her but at $10 a pop its expensive for just a swim.
Morgan remembered my sons name befor she even met him her and Janet are awesome. I love this place lots of great equipment, sauna, steamroom, spa, pool water slide, childcare, library, coffee and basket ball court. Im just waiting on the to put the bouncy houses back up. What more do you need.
Best exercise facility Ive ever joined. Exceptionally clean and quiet. Variety of machines, and plenty of space to prevent feeling crowded. Staff is friendly and supportive. Im there 3-5 times a week, and I look forward to every session. After three years of membership, Ive never considered another fitness option.
Used to work out there 3 times a week on the treadmill before work. Mainly new equipment however the prices are not cheap. Moved further south from Gainesville therefore I ended the membership.
Went here for my sons friends birthday party and they swam and went down the slides over and over. Had a great time
Clean and friendly environment. Hosts many family friendly events. Also, has an awesome pre-k program this upcoming year; year long swim lessons.
.Staff is over the top in helping, super friendly. Facility has numerous qualities, too many positive features to list. Always very clean. As a advocate and member since feb 2011. This place is superior to any gym I have visited in the past and my kids love this place.
Great place to workout, take the family and kids. Locker rooms are always clean and the equipment is fairly new. Love all the available classes they have to offer.
I wish there was an option for zero stars. Do not trust this facility. They will screw you out of your money. Signed my kid up for a sport and they charged me $125 then they said they did not have a team and my money would be refunded. Its been two months and they are running around in circles making excuses. First experience with this place and it is HORRIBLE
Great gym! Clean, well organized and super friendly staff. Child watch is fantastic. They also always have a lot of family events planned for free.
I love the Y! The facility has nice equipment, its always kept clean and its never overcrowded. As an added bonus the staff and other members are always polite and friendly.
Greatest place to bring your family and work out. Worth family membership! I would like to thank Dillon Blair and Megan! You guys are awesome!
Price is Ok. Good childcare for the kids while you workout.. Two pools for you and your kids to swim in after you workout & if there is another adult with you or your with out your kiddos, then there is a hot tub, steam room & Sauna.. A small outside play ground, gym & bouncy area... I love going with my babys....
A great facility. My kids like childwatch. The childcare while you workout is the best feature out there!
Staff and environment is excellent! Newly refinished pool is always a plus too. Any and everything you need to get yourself back into a healthy lifestyle. Love this place.
A tremendous bargain for all you get. Great, knowledgeable, friendly staff; group classes, individual training; just a great community experience.
Awesome place! Great staff! Great gym and even offers a pool and classes. Church, sanctuaty, plus more! My family and I love it!
If you want help with your fitness journey they get you on ActiveTrax, and they have schedules on which days they do certain fitness classes. This place is perfect for any age and takes care of children while adults workout.
Don’t go here if you have kids the activities they have for them is extra$$ then the kids aren’t allowed in the workout room or any of the other rooms if you take them inside the pool or gym you have to stay with them which means your not gonna be able to work out which is what you came to do and if you try to take them to daycare don’t plan on working out there long because you have to get your kids before a certain time
This place was great! The slide was awesome! The best part was sharing the word of Christ!
Great place, just wish the showers were kept cleaner
On Jan 11, 2019 I had an awful experience with one of the woman senior life guards here or if shes even a life guard idk. She approached me in such a rude way cause i was trying to take a picture of my daughter playing in the water. She started raising her voice at me which there was no need for im 8 months pregnant and that didnt seem to matter. She didn’t even let me explain anything she keep talking over me!! I guess she thinks she owns the place!! Literally she was such a pathetic person!!
I have never seen so much exercise equipment in one place. And they have pools
Great place to work out for the whole family! Nice friendly staff!
This is a perfect place for Christians. It offers gym, pool, a library room, food, lifts, etc. I would recommend to go there if youre a Christian.
I LOVE my YMCA! Theyve got a large variety of classes, from restorative yoga to spin classes to water classes.
One star is six stars too many.First, let’s get one thing straight: I’m a bonafied, died-in-the-wool Y-guy. I’ve been associated with the YMCA for over thirty years in some capacity, and I travel the country visiting branches from Maine to Seattle to Miami. I’ve been at the J.A. Walters Family YMCA since 2012.J.A.Walters is NOT a YMCA. At least not as evidenced by it’s alarmingly slipping standards and glaringly obvious incompetent management. I have never seen a branch go from zero to sixty and back to zero so fast. And now, considering the deplorable sanitary conditions of the entire facility, especially the locker rooms, it is actually going in reverse. The place is filthy from stem to stern. There used to be cleaning crew evident all day long, but no more. I gave up changing in the men’s locker room months ago. And I hear the women’s and girls’ are even worse. The lack of pride and ownership in their jobs is evident as you watch the remaining staff mill about disconsolately, apparently waiting for their shifts to be over. It did not used to be this way here: at one time, staff took pride in their work, and their association with such a venerated organization. The interaction among them was bright and evident, and they treated members with respect and joy. Suddenly, one day, the suggestion boxes disappeared, and the place began to deteriorate.I’ve had enough. Group fitness classes are regularly and constantly cancelled with no subs. The facility is deplorable. Towel dispensers to clean the equipment are usually empty. The attention to concerns of members is nonexistent: they are universally dismissed, even mocked at times. And all the amazing “Y” people who made this place great are gone. The creative programs that made the place different and so much fun have, for the most part, been long forgotten. It’s a dirty building with old exercise equipment.R.I.P., local Y. Hello, Francis Meadows.
Extremely dirty the bathrooms, yakusi, and steam room. The yakusi feels slimy when we stepped in. Plus, if we are paying for child care it is obvious that we will want them to be fed at least with the food we bring them, but they dont feed anyones baby or child while working out so you have to stop your workout and feed your own child or baby. I can do that at home. Workout at home with a few videos and stop when my baby gets hungry it defeats the purpose of paying for childcare if we still have to go out of our way to feed the baby.
Very nice friendly people, just they can close too early on the weekend, especially the pool, hot tub and steam room
Has a couple squat racks and a good amount of space to deadlift in. Lap pool has plentiful lanes. Nice.
Very clean and very nice staff. Will be coming back soon
I love working out at the YMCA, and I really like the pool, the staff is usually friendly, its great to go on the weekends when it isnt so crowded.
Great facility with tons of equipment and great staff. The mens showers could use a little work.
7/28/2017 My review is based solely on the summer camp staff. I was coming out the bathroom when a group of little ones were exiting the gymnasium. This girl started yelling at the kids and then later yelled at them saying Im not going to hold the door open for yall, yall need to figure it out and stormed off. Later she was seen grabbing two kids by the shoulders and yanking them apart and facing them forward. If I had my kids there and heard that, i would immediately remove them. There is a way to handle children, you would especially know this if you have experience in child care.
This is a wonderful place to get healthy! There is a pool, full gym, a playground, and even a day care for your child while you work out.
So far its been good. Only been few times
Really cool facility - never knew what was tucked away up here.
Daughter had swimming lessons here this past summer. Nice, clean facility where employees are friendly.
Ben a mimber for Meany years love the pool and hot tub
Excellent family development. Great exercise. Great Karate.
Slow to repair equipment. Much staff turnover. Not consistent with rules. Dietary consultant meetings no longer held. Been here for 8 years, noticed big change in past 2 years. Less caring, more apathy, communication among departments lacking for consistent services offered.
Good priceswith lots of opportunities! Super kind and helpful staff!
The gym is always clean, the staff is super friendly, and the showers have shampoo/soap!!
Staff is useless. Not helpful at all. Cant get a appointment for their actvi track program that they go on about in sign up. Cancelled on me 3 times all ready but when there they seem to be standing around laughing. No help at all. No towels provided. No is the only answer you get. Will not be renewing membership
If your in and around Gainesville this is your best option. Good prices for a lot of amenities.
Very nice facility! Greeted with a smile.
Love this place proud member the only reason I dont give 5 stars sometimes the pool staff can be little rude and I wish on Saturdays they were open later least till 8pm due to work
They have just about every exercise you can think of staff is extremely friendly childrens daycare is good could use a little updating
My family and I enjoy being members of the ymca.
Wouldnt recomend it to anyone. Old equipment. Have to wait for exercise equipment. No security cameras to watch parking lot.Think some one hit my truck there. Got ear infections everytime I went in the pool.
We belong to the Ymca, it had great equipment and plenty to do. However the showers and locker rooms are a little moldy.
We always have great family time while visiting!
Great place to do Zumba. Nice pool.
I work out here in early mornings, great place with a great staff.
Great facility and equipment. Enjoy the pool and the sauna.
A great place!
Great place to get your sweat on while caring staff keep the kids! #noexcuses
The dry sauna door has been broken for a while and I’ve told management about the issue multiple times and absolutely nothing has been done ! It is frustrating when you pay 55 a month and your facility is not up to par with the prices you charge ! Also the cleanliness of the facility is not good the locker room is disgusting:( it’s not the same ymca that opened years ago unfortunately :( I will change my rating when they fix the problems !
Best gym I ever been in excellent facilities
Its nice and clean with plenty of parking.
Overpriced memberships is the only Con. The facility itself is pretty nice and it has all the equipment needed.
Help my wife and I during a power outage
Great place to get fit
Nice pool, facilities. Havent tried classes yet.
$55 Single membership an $30 see if your debit card gets declined... Doesnt sound like a Christian workout facility anymore... Overpriced...
Had great. Time
Very nice 👍😊
Great staff, working to improve facility.
Very clean. Nice staff.
Excellent place for youth activities.
Never go sat after noon. So packed and dirty it was unpleasant havent been back since.
Great place with amazing facilities.
