I am deeply appreciative of being able to see Alvis for counseling during a period of remote work in Florida. This source of support for my health was invaluable!Logistically, it was simple to get in to see Alvis. The office manager and Alvis keep things organized with text reminders. I also appreciate the flexibility and ability to reschedule with enough notice.The environment Alvis creates is serene/peaceful and conducive to sharing. That is, its easy to cry and be vulnerable and feel that youre in a safe, respectful environment where you can share with ease. Alvis upholds those ethical principles foundational to therapy, such as respect and confidentiality.While my main concerns during therapy revolved around relationship, Alvis was able to help unwrap some of the history/trauma, which is necessary for self-growth.I felt heard during my sessions with Alvis. He is very knowledgeable about theory and astute in seeing connections, while also making space for practical application in ones daily life. I truly appreciate gaining insights about human behavior in general, and more importantly asking myself questions about my own patterns.Alvis was always open to questions, listens, and is very empathic. In this way, the counseling was collaborative.Im back up north now, but feel especially grateful that I had Alviss support during a challenging time.

Alvis Duncan has been a great counselor to me. He has always listened, aware and asking clarifying or insightful questions through the conversation in a natural and seeking-to-understand way. What else. Ive been going for eight months and already am identifying patterns in my mania.I would highly recommend Alvis if you are a creative type. I feel like he understands that mind, values independence, and is traveled and cultured. Thanks.

Was told by this counselor, I just needed to make lists of the ways my husband was loving me even though my complaint had to do with his lack of respect and empathy for me. (For example, when I had a pet goat die, I texted my husband, my husband responded with a single emoji and didnt ask about it at all or ask how I was doing.)Then he told my husband that his problem is that he is too passive even though my husband has screamed at me in front of my mother and children (all I did was say I was going to feed the dog) and he has threatened to take and keep my children from me if I tried to leave him. (Not sure Id describe that as passive behavior.)This counselor seems to believe you should just try to trick your mind into believing you are being treated well when youre not.My husband went to this counselor for an entire year and it did nothing but harm.I dont normally write poor reviews, but Ive been to quite a few counselors, some great, some meh, and I know that sometimes you dont match well, but I would not recommend this counselor to anyone.
