They have discounted pet medication and a great variety of books. It’s fun to dig around in here. Plus the proceeds go back into a great organization! I encourage people to donate and shop here.

From what I have observed, they keep great care of the cats with spacious cabins and clean environment. We adopted one cat from them before and it turned out great. For the next one that we adopted, unfortunately, after 2 days we realised we could not keep him and the humane society was really helpful in returning the pet. Highly recommend adopting pets from them and giving animals a home they deserve.

We were just turned away and told after driving an hour to adopt a pet that they are not open for adoptions even though when we pulled up the staff was outside talking to someone in a car. And their website does not state this. Then I called and got a young girl named Bailey whom has no customer service skills at all she was rude, snooty and made annoying and sighing sounds when asked questions. Like I was annoying her. Our 15 year old Akita had to be put down a few months ago and we were trying to add a family member and if this is how you treat people we wont be back.

I took my cat (witty kitty) to their clinic this afternoon for boosters. We waited out side 2 and a half hours in the sweltering heat. AC in the car could only keep it so so. She passed while we waited for them to take her in. Then the lady there with the blue jumpsuit couldnt cancel our appt. We left to go home and got a call at 3:10 wanting to know where we were. Lady on the phone said she was sorry. We dont blame any one, just sad. May be there are better places to take your pets. Thanks for reading.

I havent even adopted yet, but the staff has been so helpful and kind in helping to get me set up to adopt a kitten. I was a little bummed last weekend when I visited and they had already adopted out all of their kittens earlier that morning. However, the staff taught me about the process so that I could have the best chances for next time. Bonus gold stars to Lee for letting me talk her ear off this morning with a barrage of questions. I feel so confident about transitioning a new furry member into our family. Ill post an update when we welcome the new cuddle bug into our home.

My roommate adopted a kitten from here for us. When we adopted the kitten it was a very quick process. We picked out the kitten and they sent us a text to pay and check out and said they would email us all the paperwork. The kitten was sneezing and we asked if they could check the kitten before we left so they took it to the back and came back up and said the kitten was fine. We get home and a few hours later the kitten can barely breathe. She was coughing and sneezing and gasping for air. We called them up and they said they didnt have anyone there that could help the kitten but we could return the kitten if we wanted to. I asked if I could speak to a manager and they said the manager was also not there and to bring the kitten in for a clinic. We couldnt wait to get the kitten seen so we went to the clinic I take my cat Joe to and the vet told us that every kitten she sees from the humane society is sick. We were also told the kitten is a male but the kitten is actually a female. We called back to the humane society and spoke to the manager named Ally. She was extremely rude and said that the humane society doesnt pay any bills and it was our fault for not bringing the kitten back there on Tuesday. I said we paid a lot of money for a kitten we were told was healthy so she said to just return the kitten and get our money back if we had a problem with that. We love the kitten and dont want to return her and we definitely wont take the kitten back to the same place that told us she wasnt sick when she was.

I want to preface that the organization itself is wonderful and they provide amazing care for their animals; my boyfriend and I had overall a great foster experience (for over 6 months) before we decided to adopt her! However, we were left with a bad impression because the associate director approached us after 6 months of taking care of her, threatening legal actions if we did not bring her back within 6 hours. This took us both by surprise because we had no issue within the 6 months of fostering her and were not contacted before hand with any possible issues. Even that same morning, I had a friendly text conversation with an intern at the humane society asking for pictures and more information to which I had responded to.When asked why, the associate director claimed that we were extremely hard to get a hold of and were to blame for her being unable to be adopted. This was an extremely offensive and wrong accusation towards two people who had taking good care of our dog and genuinely cared for her. Even double checking my emails and phone call log, there was no mention of any adoption meet and greet that we had missed. Any general missed phone call in the past- which if any, happened because we are both college students taking classes- was either followed up by a message from them that usually pertained to her monthly heartworm pill or a call back from us which was met with their voicemail. Reading the other reviews, it is obvious that they have always had an issue with communication and picking up phone calls.Earlier that year I had even directed potential adopters from their Facebook page to the humane society to set up meet and greets but had not heard from the human society to set up anything with us afterwards. The one meet and greet they had asked us to attend in late December was during Christmas break, where we were understandably with our families and not in town- which the associate director claimed was just an excuse of ours later. We even worked with them to reschedule this meet and greet to after break, in January, but were called later to tell us that it had been canceled. That same day the associate director threatened legal actions on no grounds, I called the humane society and spoke directly to the foster coordinator who assured me that neither my boyfriend or I had caused any problem or did anything wrong. The only issue was that she was now the dog who had been there the longest, so they had wanted to market her better to others, which we had even aided in by sending in pictures, posting on Facebook, and sending in a new bio for her.So overall, this whole thing was just a misunderstanding and possibly miscommunication; but instead of approaching us professionally as an associate director should, he or she made a groupchat on his or her phone with my boyfriend and I and threatened legal action against us with no factual basis and no preface, at all. Any miscommunication was just as much their fault, yet we were treated so disrespectfully for their mistakes. We absolutely love our dog, but feel extremely disrespected by that situation especially because we really care for her.

Weve been in twice in the past 2 weeks and were treated rudely. Tried dropping off donations during the week and the girl at the front desk couldnt acknowledge us. Came back this weekend to see about adopting. There were multiple staff members standing around in the office talking like we werent even there. When they did realize someone was waiting to be helped they told me we couldnt see animals without an appointment. When I asked how to make an appointment the girl said call back during the week or go to the website. When I asked what the website was she sighed and scrambled to find a business card. I guess discussing weekend plans is more important than adopting out animals.

Came here for assistance with a stray kitten. We were told that they don’t do intake of strays but if we sent a picture and the kitten was cute they would take it? We went into the facility to ask if they had a crate to keep it in over the weekend until rescues were open and they told us they had a cardboard box we could keep it in. Mind you this is a long weekend. So they wanted us to to keep a kitten in a box for three days? I’m confused as I thought this was a safe place for animals? I’m never coming here again. I’m not donating to their thrift store and I’m also taking them off my Amazon.Smile donation.

Update to the below review: The shelter contacted me almost immediately after posting the review and has and is going to great lengths to resolve all of the issues I mentioned below. Theyve been kind, professional, and I now RECOMMEND this shelter based upon how responsive theyve been. They have offered their assistance in treating her medical issues, behavioral issues, and if needed re-homing.Unfortunately I cannot recommend this shelterThe staff were friendly, professional, and communicated with me/responded to me in a prompt manner.... however they did not know the pup I adopted well at all. Before coming to see her I called to ask if the pup had any health or behavioral issues, I was assured they knew of no such issues. I specifically asked about aggression towards other animals or people as this is something extremely important to me... was told she had no known issues in this department. As you may expect based upon my rating I found that my pup has extreme aggression towards other dogs (on leash at least) including lunging, barking, growling, and snapping. This is a big issue and any adopter should be told this before adopting. I also took her to the vet shortly after adopting her to find that she had an ear infection and a skin infection elsewhere on her body.... This was all within a week of adopting.... I dont understand how a shelter can miss things this important. Ive since treated her for her medical issues and am working on training, but may ultimately have to re-home her because of the behavioral issues. Needless to say Im extremely disappointed with my experience.

If I could give zero stars I would. We were fostering a dog that we gained an extreme connection with but had to think for a while if we were able to commit to adoption. Today we woke up to a call at 9:30 saying a family was waiting to meet frank and asking where we were. We were NEVER informed on the time of this meeting. We rushed to bring Frank in right away and the couple said they were informed that we wanted to adopt Frank and that they totally respected if we wanted to keep him. They were very respectful and didn’t want to break the bond we had created. After deciding we were going to officially adopt him, we had to call our roommate who wanted to put Frankie under his name. The next thing we know the supervisor had been brought out to the waiting room and immediately started screaming at us being extremely rude saying that we had plenty of time to adopt Frank and that they this new couple had to take him home and we had already made them wait long enough this morning and we missed our chance. We were forced to hand over the dog we loved and cared so much about even though the couple totally respected us taking him home. The supervisor and front desk lady were extremely unprofessional and disrespectful when all we have done is provide Frank the most loving home.

I regretfully have to give this location a poor review. Let me first off start by saying my experience there was pleasant and thanks to one of the staff member I was paired to the best dog for me. My disappointment lies in the lack of medical review on check out. I selected my dog, paid all the necessary fees and left. They mentioned he was recently neutered, thus requiring rest. When I inquired about what exactly rest entailed, they stated no running for a week. It was not until I got home I realized no one reviewed the medical history, nor was it in the bag they provided.Once home I discovered my dog was heart warm positive. I found that to be odd because I inquired about a dog at the Alachua County Animal Services Department and they informed me said dog was ineligible for adoption because she was undergoing heart warm treatment and needed rest. On his first pet visit I found that he should have been on strict rest and they provided much greater detail. I also noticed he had some cloudiness in one of his eyes. When I asked the veterinarian she investigated further, I am still awaiting those results. When I called to speak to their customer service manager she provided an explanation and stated she would educate her staff. Based on her questions, it looks as though I should have received counseling in addition to a review of the medical history. She did offer to have me come in for visit; however, I did not I am able to trust them based on this lack effectiveness.I do not regret adopting my dog but I do wish they did a better job about educating their staff so that I could have best cared for my dog. This is extremely unfortunate because other than that the staff was very friendly and they young guy helped pair me with the best dog. When running a business, there should be continuous follow through in all sectors. I hope they are able to promptly address and correct this issue because the do seem to have friendly staff and great potential.

This shelter is maybe one of the most negligent. We once fostered a cat, but he was not eating, and was overweight, which can result in hepatic lipidosis (which can cause severe health issues if not treated). However after contacting the shelter several times about our concerns, we were told simply to wait a few days and that there was nothing we could do. We passed on the cat, and have decided not to volunteer there, or foster. The team and the volunteers who work there simply are negligent and lazy and have no care whatsoever for the animals the allegedly save.

I had a wonderful relationship with this facility for 8 years. All our cats were fixed here. Dr. Bansel is a great vet I never worried when my kitties were dropped off. Lately, things have shifted. Poor communication, lack of response, and questionable and negligent situations have arisen. I went to their low cost clinic and Dr. EJ came in with a used needle to provide vaccines then used it on 3 of my 5 cats before one yelped and she stated “I guess it finally got too dull” each cat deserved a fresh needle. I reported this to dept of ag it’s extremely negligent.I bring several cats there as a rescue. This same Dr. EJ left deep bloody incisions on my white male kitten. Had the scalpel been sharp you wouldn’t have seen them. I took him back and they just reiterated that he’s fine. I’ve seen enough to know he wasn’t managed well and most males heal in 3 days and it was obvious he was in more pain than the others.I had a rescue kitty get out of my yard by digging under the fence like a dog. My neighbor took her to be scanned and found her chip was issued here. The people at the front desk told my neighbor she was mine gave her my first and last name then told her they’d call me. I posted her lost on nextdoor and went around to look for her and finally found out what happened 4 days later. They called me that day and left a message about billing never telling me they had her. I sent this vm to Sarah G. Proving they never called. Her boyfriend Brett is the one who left the message so I think they covered for each other. Then I show up for one of 3 appts I booked and I’m told they have banned me from using their clinic because I am rude to staff. They knowingly kept my cat and would have adopted her out without telling me. They sent a letter saying I broke their trust, really?!? Her chip wasn’t registered because she is a rescue kitty we were still socializing with hope she can be adopted in future. BUT even so they knew she was mine. I tried to discuss these issues with them the day I found out I was kicked off the books and a very elevated Chelsea B. demanded I leave or she would call police. I was not rude or elevated SHE WAS. They can do wrong by your pet and then blame you for it. She stated since I’ve been going there I’m rude. I asked since 2012? Chelsea responded “well I haven’t been here that long” more like since you have been here there are front desk screw ups and my raising an eyebrow makes you look bad. When Brett Buccholz front desk reception has to leave a 5 star review to bury numerous and recent 1 stars it is not the public it is you, him, or his gf Sarah all monopolizing the front of the house and covering for each other. Sloppy.

The WORST foster experience. This shelter is grossly negligent with caring for animals. They will not give animals necessary health care, and then they lie to potential adopters about the animals health. On December 5th or 6 I called The humane society and told them my yellow Labrador needed to be neutered. I had tried calling their facility many times before without answers, I finally was able to reach someone. The older lady that I was talking to was very nice we had a long conversation about how he had had surgery at 5 months old because he swallowed a bouncy ball and that I was concerned about him having this surgery @ 10 months. She told me she would make notes in the paperwork about this and to show up Monday the 9th between 8:30 and 9 and he would have surgery. I showed up Monday only to be told that I did not have an appointment. I told the girl that we were going out of town the next weekend and the only way the boarding place would let him stay there was if he was neutered. She said she was very sorry but she could not help me. I again told her that this was very last minute and I really needed this to happen so that we could go out of town. She basically gave me the cold shoulder. She could see that I was very upset so she gave me a telephone number of a different Vet and said check with them. This was not my fault I had an appointment, I feel they should have made an exception and worked me in considering my circumstances. Thank God theyre still reasonable people in this world. The owner of the boarding place is going to allow him to stay anyway...

Last week we adopted a kitten from this place at PetSmart. The kitten had flu and infested with fleas. We returned the kitten the day after, since they told us we have 7 days from adoption day to return the pet if it is not a good fit. They should not have given a kitten that is not ready for adoption to people from the beginning. We were told that we can use their wellness clinic for free if we wait till Tuesday. But by then our house would have been infested with fleas. So we refused and were told we can not adopt from them for 6 months. Later, we decided that we want to give this cat a second chance and returned on Tuesday to adopt it again. They told us, all her medical problems will be our responsibility and when we accepted they said come back on Thursday to talk to our director and adopt her. We returned on Thursday and the same lady told us, that she makes adoption decisions there and we cannot adopt for a year, and this cat is not ready for adoption now. She could tell us this on Tuesday instead she made us go there again. And when I told her that you told us before that we cannot adopt for six months and now you say a year, she said I make a call here and you cannot adopt for a year. We had nice intentions. They treated us unfair. It was not our fault that they gave a sick cat for adoption from first place. I wont adopt from them again. They were rude.

Do people forget that dogs in thier natural settings would be outside? I just adopted a dog from the humane society today. The dog I adopted was found in my yard in early December. She was very emaciated, had a wound on her leg and needed medical attention. I brought her to animal services for vet care and inquired about adopting her when she was healthy. After a week with animal services she was found to be anemic (most likely from living on the streets for however long), so they transferred her to the humane society for extra care.Ever since she was transferred to the humane society on 1/2/19, dealing with them has been nothing short of a nightmare. It’s near impossible to get anyone to answer a phone, let alone return voicemails or emails. Since she was transferred to the humane society I have probably called there over a hundred times, out of those 100 calls between the hours of 10am and 4pm, a person answered FOUR times. Of the 10 voicemails I left, I only ever got one call returned. Of the 10+ emails I sent to various people, I only received 3 responses. What’s the point in paying a phone bill if you aren’t actually going to use the phone? It took me physically driving to the humane society a few times to actually speak to someone. When I told her my issue about contacting her or anyone else for that matter over the phone she said “yeah I don’t check my phone very often”. I understand and sympathize that they are a busy organization and are short staffed. However, that does not excuse their unprofessional customer service. I thought I was doing the right thing by surrendering this poor dog so she can get healthy enough for us to give her the life she deserves and they can’t give me the time of day to answer a few questions about when she will be ready and how she is doing. If I am ever in the predicament again where a dog wanders into my yard and I want to keep her, i will pay out of pocket for vet services and will not go through the “correct” avenues. This whole experience has been disheartening and frustrating ever since she was placed into the humane society’s care.As far as caring for the animals though, I will say that they have done a great job with her. She is happy to be in her forever home and is healthy. However, I would recommend a customer service training course for all staff because without proper customer service they are going to lose the donations they need to help these animals. I will probably never return to the humane society when we look to adopt an animal again. There are plenty of other organizations that will happily answer my questions and know how to answer a phone.

My husband and I take care of wild cats, and we have always taken them here to be spaided and neutered. They are so gentle and loving when we bring are Ferrells to there cat nip program.

Great group of people that are doing great things. They can be off on guessing ages of there animals, so go with your own gut feeling. We adopted a dog, and were told she was 2.5 years old but shes just old enough to have had her first litter of puppies. Not a big deal for me, but you may want to consider this in your process.

Our dog gets all of her shots here and they handled her spay when we first took her in. Their staff was kind and she was surprisingly completely at ease even though I expected her to be made nervous by the sounds of the kennels. They also handle her heart worm and flea prevention prescription which means we can avoid costly trips to the vets office and have all of our medication ordered online.

My son adopted a dog last month and they neglected to tell him that it had heart worm and hook worm and when it would need treatment again. He didnt leave with directions or what to do for future care of the dog. They shouldnt assume that people know how to take care of a dog or what is needed. They sent him an email of his history but no hard copy so he couldnt read about the dog till after he got it home. The dog had been in the kennel for six months. I believe that they misrepresented the dog and gave my son a dog that he couldnt take care of and now I need to take care of it or find it a home. Its not fair to do to prospective owners I believe they just wanted to get rid of the dog since it had been there so long and they took advantage of a young new owner.

Skip the vet center. 3 hour wait. Make you see a vet (didnt mention this in their cost) . The 20 dollar quote does not include all the shots just rabies. Tries to make you get a heartworm test on a dog that has been treated for heartworm all year. Lots of hidden costs.Wastes your time. Let people go ahead of me who showed up after me. All I need is yearly shots!!!!!! Its suppose to be quick. !! Horrible !I should have just gone to a normal vet. All I want is yearly shots. This dog has been to 2 vets this past year alone. I dont need all this they are trying to push on me. . this is insane !!!!!!!! I came for shots not a vet visit.

Ive been volunteering with ACHS for 3 years and have also adopted from them. The staff is dedicated to caring for animals and finding the best homes for them all. They outreach to the local community by providing low cost vaccine & wellness clinics, low cost spay and neuter and have a community pet food pantry to help those in need. ACHS (along with other rescues) is also striving to make Alachua County a No-Kill county!

“Shelter luv” is a HUGE FAILURE when it comes to making a decent site that a person could navigate simply . Most importantly the pictures of the animals are unable to be seen except for small strips where you may see a pets foot if your lucky. VERY unprofessional site.

How does an human society deny someones application to adopt a dog because they live in a pet friendly RV park? Lol!!!!I make over a $80,000 a year. I own a boat and I have two businesses. Im very financially stable to support a dog. With that In mind, I visited the human society. I found Harmony which is a dog that loves water and gets along with other dogs. Perfect right????I filled out a application online. While that was being processed, I went to pet Supermarket and spent $400 on nice things for Harmony. When I arrived to hopefully pick her up, I was told that I was denied because I live in Travelers Campground. I explained that the RV park is VERY PET FRIENDLY and has dogs all over. With out much explanation, she gave me the cold shoulder, like Harmony was better off living in her own poop, piss and a 5 by 5 prison cell. Where the heck can that even be justified? They are soooooo wrong!

If I could put zero stars I would. First of all, I adopted a 6 month old pitt/lab mix with legal paperwork that says SPAYED. All of the people that were helping us were saying how wonderful it was that they already spayed her, she was up to date on all of her vaccines, etc etc. 6 months later as she turned a year old, she goes into HEAT. Took her to our vet, who actually knows what hes doing, did a test.. she is NOT SPAYED.I cant reach ANYONE at the rescue in order to help with this and have been calling every day for a week.. when I finally talked to Stevie she assured me someone would call me back in 24 hours lol. Its been a week. This is a joke.
