Family and friends, 8 adults, stayed at the Marktplatz Manor the weekend of September 24, 2021. The place was exactly what you would expect in a German town. A lot of character. Very spacious. My daughters and their husbands joined us in the evenings for games and snacks. Even my cat enjoyed his stay. Everyone was very comfortable. The location is great, the kitchen is fully stocked and we had plenty of towels. I would stay again.

Gastehaus Schmidt has been my go to place to seek rentals in the area since shortly after opening their doors in the mid 80’s I believe. They were recommended by me to friends many times over the years. They have many beautiful homes to fit your style. And now I’ve come full circle with them to manage my own property, Lucky Lane, since mid September. They have surpassed my expectations and the transition for me to begin sharing my home has really gone well. I am very actively involved and they have been very accommodating! Book with GS, you will not regret it!

We have booked a property with this business for several years for the same weekend and always told we could not reserve more than a year in advance, this year when we picked up our keys and tried to book for next year we were told it had been booked 2 days earlier (this made it more than a year in advance). When we arrived to a secure locked house the front door was not locked. When asked if this was a policy change received no positive answer.

This house is perfect for Fredericksburg tourists! The location is very convenient to the Main Street stores and restaurants...just two blocks away!!! The detail given to each and every room is so fitting for a home built in the 1850’s...it was as cozy as going to grandma’s house, but with a fabulous decorator flair! We loved it! An added bonus was a fenced backyard great for a favorite fur buddy and a large front porch perfect for a glass of wine in the afternoon. We can’t wait to go back❤️

I gifted a weekend for my son & daughter in law for their 10 Anniversary. Upon arriving at the site there was no key left for them at the owners residence so my son & his wife walked to the B&B (on the same property) and discovered the door was unlocked so they went in & made them selves comfortable & decided to rest before going out. Suddenly a man walks in the door and startled my son/wife and asked “what are you doing here” my son /wife were completely in shock & asked the man who he was & that they had a reservation & confirmation. The owner told them he had no record of their reservation. My son & owner talked it over & the owner apologized after the confirmation was shown to him. This was extremely disturbing to my son/wife but they made the best of it. The next morning my son/wife walked over for breakfast & nobody was there & no breakfast, this happened on the next morning as well. I am very disappointed in the Schmidt Gausthaus as after calling them and asking for a phone call from the owner, I was assured I would receive a call back early (Mon or Tues). I did not receive a call back so I called on Thursday & the owner apologized & credited us 15% of our reservation. All I thought was big deal! 15%🤷🏼‍♀️. Would not and will never book with them again!!

The house is old with no upgrades but clean. The issue with the home is the mattress, it was horrible. I’m really mad about other reviews because I always read then when considering a hotel or restaurant and there is no way that all the reviews for this property are real. That mattress is not comfy, it is old and hard and terrible!! We stayed two nights and barely got two hours sleep each night. We have both had to book massages to deal with the back aches we have from sleeping on that mattress. The owners must be super cheap people to have even put that mattress in there to begin with. We will definitely not be back!

Easy to book online and a great selection of vacation rooms available. Customer service was terrible, when we went to check in, the lady at the desk was very rude and not very helpful. Perhaps some of the other employees are more helpful but unfortunately for us, we had a bad experience.

Interesting since he does indeed work there.ETA: You didnt seem to notice Travis Neal left two positive reviews, once again, immediately after I left a negative one. Are you going to report that as a duplicate? I would also be hard pressed to believe that he is an actual customer and not someone who works there.I find it really interesting that ten 5 star reviews popped up within an hour or two after my friend and I posted our negative reviews. Yes, one was a copy paste of mine but rest assured she is one of the original four disgruntled parties.Are you padding your reviews by soliciting friends and family? Five reviews are only listed as Google User so five people wrote 10 reviews?The last time you were reviewed (before mine) was last week and I write a bad review and suddenly TEN people cant wait to review your place all in the span of an hour??? Unbelievable!!!Dont rent from them. They wont honor cancellation policies and refunds. Theyll ignore any attempt to contact after they have your money. Theyll take advantage of a natural disaster and the circumstances surrounding it and then lie about the details. Then they might cheat their way into a better rating.

We booked a cute little house called the Das Liebe haus (house of love) to celebrate our anniversary and the owners David and Widney were the nicest. The property is gorgeous and gets you far enough out of town to wind down and enjoy the hill country views but is a short drive to fine dinning and shopping in down town fredericksburg. I highly recommend booking this house for your next get away. It was very lovely and has a lot of character.

Back in February when we had the freezing weather here in Fredericksburg, our power went out and we needed a place to stay. We had stayed at a hotel in town for a few days but there are five of us and a dog so it was getting a little too small. I called Gastehaus Schmidt spoke with Felicia Mitchell about my problem. She assured me that there was something available for me that would fit all of us and that she would get me back to me as soon as possible. Shortly there after I received text messages from her with what was available and webpages to visit and look at the houses. We were able to stay for a whole week at short notice and the wonderful owners even gave us a discount on our stay. I can’t thank Felicia Mitchell enough for the quick service and wonderful experience!!

This company is the absolute WORST! They have a sincere lack of communication or empathy. The rental isn’t even worth the money spent. Booked, had to cancel and wasn’t refunded even after giving ample notice so others could book. Had no problem taking my $500 and then “Offering” me a credit but NEVER once communicated to offer me open dates. One would imagine if you handed over $500, someone within this property management company would keep an open line of communication so all parties would be satisfied. So now, I have lost my money and to boot, they removed reviews off their Facebook page because of embarrassment! Unacceptable! Hope no one goes through what I have been through!!You can remove reviews from Facebook but can’t do much about Google. Nice try though!

This group is great as long as everything goes smooth but when something goes wrong, expect that you will have to solve your own problem and the customer service is non existent. We have been customers for 30+ yearsWe booked our property in Nov. 2020. 1 month prior to our reservation, half payment was charged. Within a few days, my husband was called and told there was a problem. The property we were supposed to stay at had been sold. Jeff found another property but it was only for 3 of the 5 days (at first, they had the wrong dates). My husband was then told to call the Visitors center to find lodging for the last 2 nights. Our price for lodging has now doubled. Jeff said he would speak to his manager to see if they can help with the hotel bill. We did not receive a phone call so my husband had to call back. He spoke with Travis who stated they could not help with the costs outside of their network. I then called and spoke with Travis. He claimed to be the manager/owner yet refused to give his last name (Travis S Neal). He told me that we were staying at a more expensive property and they were only charging us the original price (the owner of the sold property was paying the difference) and he was not charging us for the final 2 days (the days they were not providing lodging). I was then told if we were willing to pay more for a larger property, he might be able to find something (nothing was available). I asked for an update at the end of the week, which never came.I found out that the owner of Gastehaus is Donna Mittel and she owns Fredericksburg Basket Company. My husband sent her a message on FB and an email through the company website. Neither were responded to.Less than a week before our trip, I found a 2 bedroom property that was available. My husband called and asked that they move us to the property for the 5 days so we would not have to change locations. He was told they would need to speak to the manager, Jessica Mittel, the owners daughter. We paid part of the price of the upgrade from a 1 bedroom to a 2 bedroom for 3 nights (the previous owners paid the rest) and we paid the difference for the last 2 nights which was almost double what we originally booked at. However, we were out of choices and time as Fredericksburg was booked up. My husband paid the difference in price and we were told we were set.Fast forward to our arrival. We picked up the keys and went to the property. When we arrived, the property was in disarray and there was a painter working. We called and Jeff told us to come back to the office. They tried to offer us a 1 bedroom property. After explaining that we paid for a 2 bedroom and we expected a 2 bedroom, they were able to place us at Violas for 3 of our 5 nights and we were assured they would pick up the difference. The property was beautiful and the owners were marvelous. However, we were back to square 1 with only having a place to stay for only 3 of the 5 nights and no backup plan.We went out to dinner and happened to run into the property managers daughter of the place that was still under construction. She was the only person in the entire equation that apologized to us about our situation. Miraculously, after dinner, we received a call from Nathan stating he thinks the original property will be ready after day 3 but will keep us posted.We did not receive a phone call from anyone else from Gastehaus from that point forward. My husband initated correspondence with them the day before we were to change properties and we were told the property would be ready.We did go to the new property and it was fine. Evidently, they had just fumigated for bugs as more and more appeared on the floor throughout our stay. I love the character of an older home but this one was mediocre.I have looked at the reviews Gastehaus Schmidt has received in the past 6 months and would tell anyone to be very weary. Our experience was less than stellar. Again, they were great for 30+ years but nothing went wrong. A true test of character is what you do in adversity.

We booked through Gastehaus Schmidt for our honeymoon. Due to the weather, we were unable to go to Fredericksburg for almost 2 weeks. They were very diligent in keeping us up to date with weather changes and getting us rescheduled for later dates! We got to go on February 23-25, 2021, and I must say.. the cabin they had on their website, was Amazing! We had a blast, and cannot wait to use Gastenhaus Schmidt for upcoming reservations!

My friends and I had to cancel due to the winter storm. We had canceled before our reservation. Owners agreed to let us reschedule and then became non responsive. Airbnb has an extenuating circumstances policy which they refused to honor. Owners claim we didnt cancel but we have the email to prove otherwise. Seems as though they have multiple complaints about the same problem.

I had booked a weekend get away for my mom and 2 sisters for February 19-21st. Then the freeze happened and I called and tried to cancel. We had several road closures, I lost power at my house for days and had busted pipes, plus I am an essential worker and could not even get home from my job due to the road closures. I tried calling and talking to the owner of the B&B and she was extremely rude. She said that she could reschedule us but it could only be at a certain time and not on a weekend which is extremely hard to do when you have a job. I told her I would get a lawyer and she said it still wont work and then had the audacity to say stay warm and hung up. I got with Airbnb who I booked the room through and they were so very nice and helpful and tried contacting the owners of the property on my behalf since the state of Texas was under a state wide emergency. The lady from the airbnb called me several times to see if I had gotten my refund, and I said not yet. She said, then there isnt anything we can do since the owner of the property would not consent to the refund. Therefore, it is not the airbnb peoples fault. The owner of this place does not give a damn about anything but making a profit. My daughter was stuck up in the Austin area at this time and couldnt even make it home due to road closures and unsafe driving conditions on the roads that were open. I would strongly suggest that NO ONE ever rent from these people. They are not trustworthy or empathetic to any situation.

ETA: We reached out on 2/17 asking to reschedule. You responded on 2/18 that we could. You gave no time limit as to when it needed to be done by. We are 4 individuals who needed to request time off from work & have it approved before committing to a date. In addition we were in the middle of a crisis where electricity was down. That affected internet service & cell phones were being rationed to conserve their battery. So when you emailed on the 19th no one replied. What you should have done is a courtesy cancellation of all your bookings especially people who reached out to you. We would have been more than happy to rebook with you as we were very excited about the location. We reached out to you on the 3/3 to reschedule & we received no response. We reached out a second time on the 3rd & included the extenuating circumstances policy of Airbnb. We figured this would help show that what we were all going through were extenuating circumstances & there was a policy in place to help us. That was when we were notified that you were no longer receiving messages.So, no, you didnt reach out multiple times. WE reached out to you first then you replied. Then you reached out ONCE on the day of our check-in while we were all trying to figure out what to do. Then you shut down our ability to reach you after 2 weeks, not several weeks.A group of 4 of us were set to stay at one of the properties owned/operated by Gastehaus Schmidt on Feb 19th through that weekend. We, like so many other across the state were w/o power & water in our homes. We booked through Airbnb & found that there was an Extenuating Circumstances Policy for cancellation that included Declared Emergencies and Epidemics, which both the state & national government had called for Texas at that time, AND Natural Disasters where they even mention large-scale outages of essential utilities. So what happened was 100% covered by Airbnbs policy & we should be refunded.We initially wanted to reschedule our trip because we were really looking forward to our time away even for just a weekend. We were initially told that would be fine & we could reschedule. Mind you during this time of trying to figure out what to do & when to do it we are w/o electricity during freezing temperatures & no water. We get an email asking us, the day of our check-in, if we are still coming?? The day before we had stated we need to reschedule. When we got back to them w/ a date of when we could reschedule the trip (after we all had power again and were back to a semblance of normalcy) we received no response. We reached out a second time about the dates we would like to come it showed that they were not receiving messages.Weve reached out to Airbnb & they havent been helpful, either.I know that in order for Airbnb to refund us the money we paid for this rental the owner/operator has to agree to refund Airbnb for the money they were paid. I read the owner/operators response to a review of someone w/ the same problem. They booked through Airbnb & the owner/operator didnt have any of the credit card information to do the refunding. Which is true. When you book through a third-party, pre-pay site like Airbnb or Hotels.com, the customer/guests credit card information is not passed on to the hotel or property manager. The third party site takes payment from the customer and pays the owner/operator for that booking. IN ORDER FOR A REFUND TO BE PROCESSED TO A CUSTOMER, THE OWNER/OPERATOR HAS TO REFUND THE THIRD PARTY BOOKING AGENT AND THEN THE THIRD PARTY WILL GIVE THE MONEY BACK TO THE CUSTOMER. So while technically the response to the review was factually correct, it was disingenuous and deceitful to imply that they have no control over the refund process.Obviously this disaster has hurt your profits and the easiest targets for maintaining your profits is the little people who just wanted to take a short vacation. You chose that instead of utilizing your business insurance for contingent business interruption...but then you might be trying to use both which is fraud.

Felicia was one of the rudest people iv ever spoke to and considering what everybody has been through this last week the fact that y’all refuse to refund even a portion of the payment is ridiculous. BEWARE! I shared a review about our terrible experience with Gasthaus Schmidt in Fredericksburg and a man by the name Travis S Neal, a local realtor to Fredericksburg and who also has some sort of connection or affiliation to the manager Jessica and Gasthaus Schmidt, went on to my business Facebook page and left a bad review as retaliation even though I have never met him, spoken to him or provided any services to him in any way. ABSOLTELY UNACCEPTABLE!As far as the stay, we were contacted the day of our arrival by Gasthaus Schmidt to confirm we were coming, upon arrival at 8pm, after almost a 4 hour drive there, our facility was non functioning with no water or electric and had been that way for over 15 HOURS...meaning we were confirmed to arrive when it had been non-functioning long before that. We were refused a refund even though we were unable to stay in the place we booked and payed for. Terrible communication, terrible professionalism and will not return our phone call. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE all the way around.*UPDATE: I am having to update here since I am unable to respond to their response and all I can say is, WOW! I have emailed you the screen shots of the false review that was left of my business. I also have the saved voicemail that we were NEVER asked to cancel, even when we called 5 days prior to storm to try and postpone our reservations and was denied and told we would not receive a refund.I was the one who filed harassment to Facebook after receiving the retaliation review on my business and I have reached out a total of 3 times trying to get a return phone call from this business since our night of showing up to a non functioning facility and was defaulted to stay elsewhere last minute by the property owner, not Gasthause Schmidt, because they had no idea what to do, but were refused a refund and had to turn right back around and drive home the next day because the place we RESERVED and PAID for was non functioning. This response to our review by Gasthaus is even more disturbing to me to see that despite what all we went through, now that would have the audacity to lie about US harassing them...we have called and left voicemail a total of 3 times and have only received one call back the morning after I left a review to tell us we would not receive a refund, even though we never stayed at the facility we booked and paid for. This goes far beyond the amount of money we requested as a refund and goes into the unethical business practices and level of unprofessionalism. How unfortunate...again I WOULD NOT recommend this business.

My fiancée and I planned to go to a vacation spot in Fredericksburg, Tx for Valentines, and for our second year anniversary which is in February. Unfortunately, even though we planned to go and had no ideas on canceling, a winter storm is plowing through the nation and we’re are unable to travel safely the five to six hours to go. We rented through Airbnb whom was very empathetic to us, and even though we had surpassed the time limit for a refund, they were willing to ask the owners to give us a refund. The owners declined, and we are paying for a vacation we cannot take, and it was to their discretion to refund us. I can only assume this was to take advantage of someone else’s misfortune and to make a buck, as no respectable business in our minds would disregard this extraordinary circumstance. We were even planning to go at a later date, but we have decided they have “taken” enough of our money, there is plenty of competition in a wonderfully historic town like Fredericksburg.

My husband and i stayed at Ravenwood Cottage, It was extremely peaceful and lovely. Everything about it was perfect with absolutely no complains. They welcomed us with some wonderful pastries, cold beverages for our stay. We had a girls weekend at Fredricksburg and stayed at the Second Home. It was a lovely little house within walking distance of downtown. There was a bottle of wine waiting for us and there is a wonderful front porch with rocking chairs to sit and enjoy the evening. Everything at the house was perfect!

Not the most intuitive booking service... I had to make a few calls to verify basic facts. We stayed at Enchanted Inn for two nights in April 2018 and the accommodations were as described. Nice extra touches in a rustic converted chicken coop. Remote away from road, but close enough to go for dinner in town.

Every time we visit Fredericksburg we stay with Gastehaus Schmidt. In fact, it was there that my husband proposed to me nine years ago. We’ve stayed in town and out and have enjoyed both. Each bed and breakfast is unique so it’s fun to try a new one every time we go. The staff is always welcoming and helpful. Of course, they know Fredericksburg very well so they can give great recommendations for restaurants and entertainment. We love it and would recommend Gastehaus Schmidt to anyone!

Ive stayed at the Creek Street Cottage via Gastehaus Schmidt a few times now and I couldnt speak more highly of the experience if I had to. Gastehaus brings a more personal touch and a better local offering than any other short term rental manager Ive ever experienced. CUTE little shop right on Main Street that can not only point you to anything you may want, but also retails local wines and sundries.. If youre coming to Fredericksburg or the surrounding area, dont look anywhere else!

My husband surprised me with an overnight getaway where he booked us the Country Quiet Guesthouse. I cannot rave enough about not just the affordability, but how they go above and beyond in every way possible. There are hiking trails, river access, a fishing hole and the house itself oozes with the history of Fredericksburg that Texans know and love. It was immaculately clean with so many little personalized touches I felt like a princess for a day. The breakfast in the morning requires little prep and is delicious. It is conveniently located only a few miles from downtown for ease of shopping and and dining. The hot tub is a very welcomed feature, also immaculately clean. The owners have incorporated the family photos as well as other family memorabilia throughout this perfect country cottage enveloping one in the rich history of Fredericksburg taking it to a personal level. Cant wait to return with friends for a much longer stay as this place is not just great for a quick get away, but for extended stays with all the comforts of home.

My brother and I stayed two nights at the property in downtown Fredericksburg. The staff is straight out of the movie Idiocracy. Their cryptic instructions about parking led to wasting precious vacation time; when we called them about it they directed us to an alternative parking lot which featured signs warning that overnight parked cars would be towed. Their response was to park in the lot, and we will be available to help tomorrow morning at 8:30. But wait, by then, the car might be towed. Oh, OK, you can park overnight on the main street.The next day, my brother and I were trapped on the balcony because the doors lock on closing and the keys they issued us dont open them. We had to call for help and one of the Idiocrats came to the property and opened the door.To top it all off, the last morning there was NO hot water.Every problem here could have been avoided by competent management. The owners are evidently too cheap to provide keys that open all locks and too cheap to install water heaters that can service a fully occupied property.Dont reward Idiocracy. Just say no.

This place is the rudest booking agency out there. I booked a stay through AirBnB and somehow was booked twice. I called them to figure out why I was double charged for the same reservation. First, they say they are open at 9:00 AM (I called multiple times from 9:00 - 9:30 AM and left a message for them to call me back). I had to call them back at 9:40 AM to speak with someone. The lady on the phone was unhelpful and was flat out rude to me. She blamed me for it which I have no idea how they received a reservation when I used AirBnB and that is not what they had through their system.Worst customer service ever!

Not a perfect one. First of all the confirmation sent by Gasthaus Schmidt gave the wrong direction of the street. It listed as south when the rental was on the north. It was so hard to find I stopped at area hotel and they Googled the location on Google Maps just so I could find it. There was no local phone to address this with the service and no local phone to call the house we were renting from.When we got there it, was dusk and I had been up since 5am, so we got our things to put up and went to eat. The next morning when I went to shower the base of the shower stall was dirty. The carpet did not look like it had been vacuumed and there was big glob of liquid soap on the base of the shower stall. The floor of the shower stall was dirty and brown.
